Center Stage: This term defines the center point of the stage or room in which you are dancing. Stage Right: The area of the stage to the right of center stage when facing the audience. Stage Left: The area of the stage to the left of center stage when facing the audience. Downstage: Towards, at, or on the front part of the stage when facing the audience. March Movement Concept

Body Shapes and Rhythm Body Shapes:

A dancer’s body can make many different shapes. Dance is created as these shapes move through space. Shapes can be: Straight Curved or somewhere in between Dancers can also make their body shapes symmetrical and asymmetrical using the midline of the body; matching and contrasting each side of the body.

Rhythm(n): The patterned, recurring alternations of contrasting elements of sound or speech. Understanding musical rhythm is important for dancers as it helps us understand movement. When it comes to choreography, understanding the beats and rhythms of the song will help dancers piece together steps and dance gracefully across the stage. 30

Rockland School of Ballet’s Frog Princess Awards An Annual End of Year Ceremony and Celebration Every dancer enjoys the thrill of praise; the pride in achievement. Every dancer’s response to the Frog Princess Awards will be positive, immediate, and tangible. Every dancer is acknowledged - from the exceptional to the average - all seek recognition for their endeavors. Parents have the opportunity to see their children dance on their own, in an environment that is not competitive. Dancers maintain interest and enthusiasm over a period of years as they progress from level to level.

The Frog Princess Awards is a ready-made program of choreography that sets attainable goals for achievement. The Frog Princess Awards are a series of age- and level-appropriate distinctive choreographic compositions that students perform before an audience of parents and friends.

A most important aspect of the Frog Princess Awards is that they are NOT competitive - each student receives a medal, and a certificate. The Frog Princess Awards are a stress-free, enjoyable experience for teachers, dancers, and parents alike.

The fee is modest.

No heavy outlay for costumes: the dancers perform in their leotards. The entire learning process of the variations and the actual performance are a joyous experience for dancers.

Please mark your calendar! This year’s Frog Princess Awards will be Saturday, May 28, 2016

Rockland School of Ballet The Contemporary Movement

Nothing is More Revealing Than

MOVEMENT Rockland School of Ballet’s Contemporary Movement is a company division and was created with a vision of providing the midcoast Maine dance community space to come together and dance without judgement and reservation. Contemporary Movement provides dancers with a place to explore their passion, develop technique, and assimilate creativity. Each month dancers enter the studio and begin by discussing a current social issue. After gaining an understanding of the topic at hand, dancers learn a choreographed piece internalizing the movement, making it their own and sharing their story through dance. Contemporary Movement at Rockland School of Ballet offers students a safe, nurturing environment to hone their craft while continuing to develop their technique. In addition to regular classes and rehearsals, students are brought into the community to lead by example, telling stories and sharing experiences through the art of dance. Contact Rockland School of Ballet today to learn more about becoming part of the Contemporary Movement.
