Alex was out in Penticton, B.C. for a bachelorette party in June 2015 when she hit it off with Craig. The pair spent every weekend together for the next three months, and got engaged after just over a year of dating at J & M Vineyards. Nicole Sihlis with Created Lovely Events helped to make the wedding planning experience effortless and relaxed. Speeches were the highlight of the reception for Alex and Craig, as they were filled with an incredible amount of love for the happy couple. Royce Sihlis and Kismet Creative created memorable tokens of the day that highlighted the happiest moments of the festivities. From the ceremony location, to the couple’s attire, to the stunning floral arrangements and elegant invitations, each detail of the day was right out of Alex and Craig’s wildest dreams.

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R Surrounded by wineries, pristine lakes and rugged mountains, the Okanagan shines as an ideal wedding location in the Candian Rockies. From June to August, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that summer wedding vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps around 30°C. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to December when the town is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out June. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months or sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony.
ACTIVITIES With wineries in every town in the Okanagan, you can create your own walking wine tour to sip and enjoy the various wines from the region. For a true vineyard feel in Penticton, Perseus Winery, Monster Vineyards and Poplar Grove Winery are all within a kilometre of each other. If you are wanting to stay in the downtown Kelowna, Sandhill Estate Winery and Ricco Bambino Urban Winery are less than two kilometres apart. Go outside and get your heart pumping on one of the numerous trails in the area that truly let you take in the stunning scenery of the landscape. In Peachland, Pincushion Mountain Trail is a moderate 3.3 kilometre, out and back trail with gorgeous views of Okanagan Lake. For a long but easy hike, try out Christie Falls via the Trans Canada Trail, a 6.8 kilometre loop featuring a waterfall. When the weather clears up and the temperatures rise, spending time on the water is a must while in the lake country of British Columbia! Lake Osoyoos is known as Canada’s warmest lake, which makes it the perfect spot for water sports such as skiing and wakeboarding. Other popular lakes include Lake Okanagan, Kalamalka Lake, Shuswap Lake and Skaha Lake.

Make it official In the province of British Columbia, you can get your registration of marriage and marriage license at any registry agent office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. You will be asked multiple questions while you are there such as when and where are you getting married or if you’ve had any previous marriages. It will cost $100, and you must be married within three months of receiving the license. The province of British Columbia does not require you to be a resident, but it does require two witnesses at the ceremony. Your officiant will need to send the signed registration of marriage form to Vital Statistics within 48 hours of the ceremony.

Some salsa dancing was all it took for Liza to steal Tim’s heart on the day that they first met - and the pair hasn’t looked back since. A symbolic ceremony took place in Bogota, Colombia, to incorporate both families and friends, who are geographically separated. This was followed by this special elopement ceremony at God’s Mountain Estate in Penticton, B.C. for Liza’s birthday.

Pauline and Stefan met during a memorable university internship in Calgary. Many morning coffees and numerous dates later, Stefan proposed and the rest is history! The pair decided that it was only natural to choose Kelowna as their idyllic wedding destination, due to their childhood connections to the Okanagan. Their first date was one of the best and the easiest that the pair had ever had, making it their last first date ever. THE PROPOSAL After a hot afternoon of golf followed by a quick swim, Lindsay and Tom were on a mission to test out the new Mission Hill brut that had just been released. Lindsay had an inkling that the proposal might happen that particular weekend, but had no idea what was truly in store. After trying to venture into the vineyards with no luck, Tom got down on one knee and popped the question amidst the stunning B.C. landscape. The couple topped their day off with a celebratory private tour through the vineyards, a barrel tasting in the winery’s expansive cellar and a repeat of their proposal. It was a day for the books!

Cassidy Watt Artistry Collective compiled all of the necessary details for a perfect vintage elopement set against the backdrop of the Kamloops Hoodoos. Inspired by the free-spirited weddings of the 60s and 70s, this elopement speaks to every flower child with a love for Woodstock. Burnt orange, mustard yellow, dark walnut and rich cream tones along with brilliant pops of gold brought the elopement vision to life.

CHILDREN OF THE SUN A beautiful mustard yellow fig cake combined traditional and modern wedding styles, with an orange frosting drip and raw outer edge. The thrifted table details were designed to showcase the unique desert environment and towering rock formations. The shoot infused classic bridal elements with unique vintage pieces, from the simple tableware to the old-style furniture. The bride’s free-flowing Reclamation gown, featuring intricate floral detailing and a feminine lace pattern, matched the landscape along with her hand-gathered bouquet.

What is your favorite part of the job? My favourite part of my job is getting the opportunity to make women feel confident and beautiful before some of the biggest moments of their lives. We meet so many amazing women every day and getting to know each of them and create a look that makes them feel their best is my favourite feeling!
What is your favorite tool of the trade? Yes! I don’t think I could live without my lipstick collection! No bride’s makeup is complete without a gorgeous, kissable lip!

Where do you come up with your ideas? I often feel most inspired by music when I am dreaming up ideas for styled shoots and makeup ideas. I also come across so many unique and creative ideas on social platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest or bridal magazines and publications.
What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? I would have to say I wish that we could educate more people on the importance of choosing to hire a professional hair and makeup team for your wedding or event, especially one that will be heavily photographed. We use products and techniques specially formulated to last all day, photograph beautifully and compliment your natural features, wedding or event theme, dress style, eye colour etc.

What do you do in the “off” season? I love taking time to relax in the off season, either out champing at the Shuswap or snuggled at home with my boyfriend and our cat! We love going for drives, boating on the lake or exploring our beautiful province! I also keep busy with hair and makeup for events or photo shoots when we aren’t in the bridal season.
What is your astrology sign (and do you think it is accurate)? I was born in May which makes me a Taurus! I can totally be a bit stubborn, but I am alsostable, responsible and devoted, which are all traits of the Taurus sign. I love reading my horoscope and find it to be pretty accurate most of the time.
What is the last concert you’ve been to? Paul McCartney in Vancouver last summer! I am a huge Beatles fan and seeing Paul in BC Place with so many other people singing along to the songs was a bucket list experience for sure.
