EDITOR’S LETTER

HelloFriends, Here we are, a new season and with it, the promise of new beginnings. 2020 was a year for the record books in more ways than one. Yet, even through all of the restrictions, postponements, loss and disappointments one thing remains unwavering - the love between Rocky Mountain couples like you. The resilience seen from the wedding community, as well as the brides and grooms who refused to let the circumstances diminish their love was and continues to be inspiring. These couples and vendors all demonstrated the power of love in a time when the world truly needed it most. For the RMB team, we have continued to grow, create and come together with the intentional goal of bringing joy to our readers in new ways, both online and in these pages. We have added more sisters to the team and even some manpower with a Rocky Mountain babe. Despite all of the hardships and unknowns, it has truly been a special time that I will look back on with a sense of profound thankfulness. If you are at the beginning of your planning journey, or patiently waiting for your dream day to come to fruition, these pages will allow you to meet local makers, step in to inspiring love stories, play dress up for a while and ultimately press pause on the outside world for a few sweet moments. I pray this magazine allows you to dream of better days ahead, while planning your perfect Canadian Rockies wedding in some of the most beautiful locations this world has to offer.

introducing..

LUXURA DIAMONDS Lindsay, the artist behind Luxura Diamonds, creates custom engagement rings, wedding bands and fine jewellery for clients around the world, with a focus on ethically sourced Canadian diamonds and gold. Her pieces are thoughtfully designed and meticulously crafted as future heirlooms, suitable to be passed down and treasured for generations. With a passion for finding the perfect diamond for every client, Lindsay provides a shopping experience that is stress-free, supportive, enjoyable and fun. No matter the budget, Luxura Diamonds will find the highest-quality, best looking diamonds and gemstones, while providing exceptional service and expertise. A local Canadian gem, Lindsay is truly honoured to play a role in so many significant life milestones.

What is your process? “A lot of thought goes into designing each piece. We narrow down the shape, clarity, color and approximate size of the center stone. Then, the hunt begins! Each aspect of the diamond’s cut and clarity is thoroughly analyzed to find the very best diamonds available on the market. As soon as the diamond is chosen, we start to hone in on the design of the mount itself, using the precise measurements of the selected diamond to dictate the scale and proportions of each aspect of the ring. We also keep the future wedding band in mind when designing the engagement ring, which is often overlooked. Most individuals will eventually wear a wedding band with their engagement ring and we want to ensure that the beauty of both rings are enhanced when this happens.”

- LOCAL FINDS -

- LOCAL FINDS -

What inspires your pieces? “Inspiration is everywhere! Architecture, nature and travel are my greatest sources of inspiration. I love going to museums; humans have been adorning and expressing themselves with jewellery throughout history. My clients are also a great source of inspiration. I really enjoy the designs that at first seem the most challenging. For instance, I once had a client requesting to include the shape of a specific mountain and the outline of a specific music note in the profile of the ring. At first, I struggled with how we could incorporate these while keeping within the principles of good design, and without the ring seeming too busy, or like a novelty piece. However, the end result was timeless and elegant, and is one of my favorites.”

Adielle +Cezar VA N C O U V E R

In early March 2017, Adielle received a message on social media from a guy named Cezar. He didn’t try any cheesy pickup lines but started off the conversation with a simple “hey!” It turns out that sometimes, good things happen when you least expect them to. Two years later, Cezar set up a surprise proposal with one of Adielle’s local photographer friends, Jennifer. The cover story was that Adielle and Cezar were helping Jennifer try out some new gear. As Jennifer organized one of the shots, Cezar dropped down on one knee in the location of the couple’s first date at Third Beach in Vancouver - what a dream! On August 6th Cezar and Adielle tied the knot in a minimalistic, coastal wedding at Caulfield Park. The pair didn’t let the pandemic hold them down and instead, stayed focused on their steadfast love and incredible support system. Our groom’s favourite moment was seeing his bride all dolled up during their first look. One of the sweetest details of the entire day was a handmade wedding gown that was stitched by Adielle’s mom, complete with a little blue heart sewn into the bodice. As Adielle walked down the aisle, the clouds parted and the sun emerged to create the most stunning scene. Caulfield Park was right out of Cezar and Adielle’s dreams, resembling the California coast with its crashing blue waves and rocky grey cliffs. Between the beautiful couple, unique wedding arch and expansive coastal landscape, every guest was left breathless in awe.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES "Don’t let the state of the world dictate or influence the love and commitment you have for each other. Just get married, have fun, make the most of it and do not stress. The best moments often happen when you let go of all your premediated plans. We got married during a pandemic and while it was nothing like we had originally planned, it turned out to be much better than we could have ever dreamed!" - Adielle

GAIL + BRIAN

west vancouver

Gail and Brian’s love story is truly like no other. Surely out of a movie script, the pair met at a photography gallery in 1979 when their eyes locked and sparks flew. Over the years, Gail and Brian have raised three spectacular and loving children, seen their grandson grow and tragically lost their oldest son, Jordan, to cancer in 2017. While they have endured many tribulations, they have also been gifted extraordinary moments of joy and learned the true meaning of “for better and for worse.” This sweet photo session was captured on the couple’s 40th wedding anniversary, all thanks to two of their children, Karina and Dane. Much to Gail’s surprise, Brian attempted to get down on one knee and presented his bride with a lovely update to her original ring, a square halo of diamonds and a second diamond band. Gail’s ring is a symbol of their marriage - a little bit of the past, a little bit of the present and a strong commitment to uphold their vows, every moment of every day.

MELISSA + MICHAEL

canmore

It all started at a bus station in Grade 11, where Michael and Melissa’s friend invited them to celebrate the Chinese New Year together. Michael proposed two months before their nine year anniversary, and now the couple is gearing up to tie the knot. Their proposal story is taken right out of a romantic drama, filled with love, travel and a beautiful custom ring, all set to the backdrop of charming Rome. After dinner one evening, Michael and Melissa climbed to The Orange Garden to watch the sunset. As they moved closer to the ledge to take photos, Michael surprised Melissa by getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him!

S AV I + S H A R AT H

west vancouver

This pair’s story started back in 2017, at a New Year’s Eve party in Atlanta, Georgia. By happenstance, Sharath ended up being in Atlanta at the time and met Savi that evening, where they started the happiest love story. The two always knew that they would get married and at this point, it was just a matter of time. The proposal planning started after Sharath and Savi received their families’ blessings - it was magic, all thanks to Miranda Anderson Photography and her friend, Remy June Events. This loving couple got engaged in a quiet and secluded locale in Caulfield Park, with the beautiful water and mountainscape in the background. The best part of the entire proposal was that they both planned on proposing that day, much to the other’s surprise!

MADELEINE + KYLE

banff

Proposing to a wedding planner isn’t an easy feat and on top of it all, Kyle was thrown some wild curveballs when faced with travel restrictions. He had to alter his entire plan of having a June proposal in the Loire Valley of France and opted instead for a picture-perfect moment on the shores of Barrier Lake in Kananaskis. When it came to their engagement session, Madeleine quickly shifted into planner mode with the help of the wonderful Julia of Junophoto. The beautiful atmosphere of the day was brought to life by a colourful pink palette of vibrant ranunculus, anemones and snapdragons, as well as a decadent bottle of Veuve Rosé bubbly!

simple haven a canmore wedding day

It’s a simple kind of serenity when you’re able to get hitched with the one that you love right in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Canmore is one of these places, a town that feels like home and always keeps you coming back for more. For this reason, it is one of the best places that you could go for your modern mountain wedding, especially if it is designed by Mountain Bride. This Debbie Wong Design paper suite illustrates the best parts of Canmore through whimsical watercolours outlining rugged mountain peaks and delicate flora and fauna.

palm springs

dreamin’

Acquiring its name from its role as an escape destination for Hollywood’s biggest stars, Palm Springs, California, known as the Playground of Stars, is an inspiring locale known for its alluring architecture, captivating colours and warm weather. This styled wedding day, designed by Camille Johns of The Good Party and shot by Sweet Heirloom Photography, focuses on the most fun and festive parts of this desert destination. Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse was chosen as the intimate location for this shoot and lends itself perfectly to this aesthetic with its beautiful outdoor offerings and an elegant barn.

Shapes are a huge part of the Palm Springs vibe, which is why The Good Party brought in these bright coral arches that were crafted by Structuur Designs and Rentals. In most cases, the bride steals the show, but the groom really knocked it out of the park with his Outlooks Menswear suit and handsome floral tie. The bride, still as beautiful as ever, collected her flowy number from Unbridled and pretty jewels from Emma Glover Design. Beautiful florals from Persephone Bloom Studio adorned the day with vibrant colours and eye catching arrangements.

This celebration transports us to warm days and summer soirées by bringing the colourful nature of Palm Springs to Canada. Traditionally, bright fabrics and dark walnut woods are staples in the Southern California city. The planning team brought in accent pieces from Trend Decor, Bespoke Decor, Party Mood, The HOUSSE and Darling Vintage Rentals to weigh in on the lively decor and colour palette. Kody Dishlevoy of The Good Party dreamt up the most eye-catching and evocative wedding invitations that captured the architecture and design of Palm Springs perfectly.

The bride and groom’s ensemble deserves an honorary mention because of its simple sophistication. Her Lack of Color hat gives a nod to the new and the old - the modern bride and the farming history of Kamloops. New Image Salon and Cassidy Watt Artistry Collective created a bridal look that was clean and refined, yet relaxed. Our groom matched his bride with a simple suit and suspenders from Black & Lee. His bow tie from Tie Bar seamlessly incorporated the main colours of their big day.

Katrina Mike + PITT MEADOWS

- BC REAL WEDDING -

Katrina and Mike have a modern love story, in that the two swiped right and the rest was history! After five and a half “loooong years,” the pair got engaged on Canada Day. Katrina and Mike were selling their home, attending a birthday party that night and going to Toronto in two days - talk about a whirlwind! Although Mike had to improvise and fashion a new proposal after his plans were somewhat derailed, the couple had a lovely picturesque moment as they walked their dogs in a park. Their July 13th wedding ceremony was movie moment after movie moment with the sun shining, guests crying and Mike’s incredibly moving vows.

SYMBOLS OF LOVE

“When I read my vows, an airplane flew over top of us. Most people thought that it was a disappointing distraction, but it was special to me. My late grandpa flew planes as his hobby, so I took it as a sign that he was there with me on the best day of my life.” - Katrina

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “With everything going on in the world right now, we would say that marriage is about the relationship that you have together. Focus on the two of you. Big wedding, small wedding, big budget, small budget - never forget why you’re planning all of this and that, at the end of the day, it’s just about the two of you. All of the other details will just fall into place.”

Baylie + Jonah

WEST KELOWNA It was a romance from down under, when Baylie and Jonah met in Australia in January 2017. The pair were attending an outreach program called Youth With A Mission. Being from separate places in Canada and only a week into dating, they found themselves on two different planes home. They did long distance for seven months before Jonah decided to move out to Kelowna to be with Baylie. Jump forward three years later, on a hiking trip up Bear Creek Mountain in Kelowna when as they got closer to the top of the mountain, Jonah and Baylie were met with a trail of flowers that lead to a spot overlooking a glimmering lake. There, a blanket was set up with a sea of roses, sparklers and a celebratory bottle of champagne. Jonah read a sweet letter, got down on one knee and asked Baylie to marry him! The moment was quiet, intimate and perfectly them. After celebrating at the top, the newly engaged couple climbed down the mountain to toast with family and friends. They planned a summer wedding in the Okanagan on July 18th.

The pair had a day that was filled with many rustic touches and lots of fresh foliage, including white roses, babies breath, Gerbera daisies and eucalyptus. Since they both grew up in loving faith-filled homes, Jonah and Baylie felt it was important to include worship and a small sermon into their wedding day. During their ceremony, they had the pleasure of being married by Jonah’s dad, a chaplain in the military.

SOON-TO-BE

Although the two were planning a wedding amidst a global pandemic, they both say that they wouldn’t have had it any other way. Baylie and Jonah loved having two receptions and the opportunity for a small intimate wedding. Baylie’s favourite moment was walking down the aisle to see her soon-to-be husband waiting there for her. She can’t quite express what that moment felt like, but it was beautiful and all that she could have ever imagined.

Erikka + Eric CANMORE

There’s nothing quite like a Rocky Mountain romance, and that’s exactly how Erikka and Eric’s love story started, right in the heart of the Canmore ski community. An incredible seven and a half years later, Eric proposed to the love of his life while sitting on a beach watching the sunset in Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii. Eight months later, the two were hitched amongst soaring Rocky Mountain peaks on a warm summer night on July 30th.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

“Our officiant Barbara helped us come up with our rock circle. We asked each of our guest to bring a rock that they collected and place it in a circle at our ceremony site. We had additional rocks placed to honour our family and friends who could not attend. We also said our vows while standing in the middle of the circle, ‘surrounded’ by all our loved ones. After the ceremony, each of our guests and ourselves picked up a rock that honoured special memories, good wishes and those who could not attend our wedding and we all threw the rocks in the river. It was like a big toast!” - Erikka

Anisha + Paul SURREY

The best love stories start with dogs, and that’s exactly what Anisha and Paul needed to officially meet each other for the very first time. The two both knew of each other and in fact were unknowingly “social media friends” when Anisha ended up dog-sitting for a family member. Paul, passing time with his (now their!) dog, Winter, and Anisha taking care of the family pup found themselves together at the dog park! Four years later, Paul was doing an engineering co-op in Toronto and Anisha came for a visit. After a day of craft breweries and thrift shopping they took a ferry to Toronto Island where Paul got down on one knee on the shore facing the city and proposed. A very clever Paul even ensured the momentous occasion would be captured by having a photographer waiting in the bushes behind. The two planned a timeless classic wedding for September 5th.

Anisha and Paul’s entire week was rich in tradition, with an Indian Maiyan & Mehndi party and the gifting of family heirlooms. Anisha’s mother passed on her wedding bangles, along with some pieces from her grandparents. Even sweeter, Paul was given the same heirloom pieces that Anisha’s father received from his father-in-law at his own wedding what a thoughtful tradition! The groom also kept his Nana and Papa’s wedding bands in the breast pocket of his suit, to honour them, as they have passed on.

THE VOWS

Before the wedding ceremony, both families prayed together in a Milni Ceremony that was led by a Granthi, or a Sikh pastor. The two families embrace each other to symbolize that they are one family. Paul’s former youth pastor, Kevin Snyder, happily officiated the wedding ceremony, which was a sentimental touch. Overall, Anisha and Paul have the same highlight of their wedding ceremony - the vows! Even though they were surrounded by all of their favourite people, the pair felt like they were the only people in the area as they recited their vows.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Take a moment to soak it all in, your wedding will go by so fast. Enjoy it. Stop and look around at everyone who is there for your love, dance a bit harder (flailing is always welcome), have another drink, hug your loved ones a little bit longer, take it all in and something that being a COVID-19 wedding couple has taught us is to remember it is not a wedding that makes a marriage, it is the ability to roll with the punches, not take ourselves so seriously and to love HARD, that will lead us through life together.”

Sam +Zac LETHBRIDGE

Sam and Zac started their love story with a chance encounter at a pub one night, all thanks to a mutual friend. Three years passed when the two went snowshoeing up to Bertha Falls in Waterton Lakes National Park, which is where Zac decided to pop the question overlooking a gorgeous view. The couple attributes much of the ease in wedding planning to the Norland Historic Estate Venue's staff who helped with every single element and ensured their September 7th wedding went off without a hitch. Since the Norland’s grounds are filled with so much greenery and flowers, Sam and Zac did not have to worry about bringing in expensive arrangements or archways. The locale was perfect as it was and only needed a bride and groom to complete it!

Timeless Tables

DESIGN REIMAGINED

One table, four different designs - all of the inspiration that you could ever need for your big day! The key elements for these imagined tablescape creations were a beautiful round oak table, a warm neutral centrepiece and a Meg White Designs paper suite featuring hints of custard, robin egg blue, navy and pale pink. For the various themes, Smitten Events and the Nouveau Romantics curated different chairs, florals from Celsia Florist and adornments from Bespoke Decor to invoke a different feel for each set. Of course, this design couldn’t have come together the way it did without gorgeous imagery from The Apartment Photography.

CALIFORNIA BOHO Relaxed and effortlessly stylish, this tablescape is inspired by the quintessential California vibe that places like Ojai and Santa Cruz possess. This is the perfect option for those who dream of having a beachside soirée but have a special place in their hearts for a Rocky Mountain wedding. The boho rattan placemats, natural linen napkins, blush dinner plates and black bentwood chairs establish an earthy feel that leaves you feeling at-home and grounded.

MODERN INDUSTRIAL Modern industrial - one of the biggest trends in the wedding industry now and for good reason! To achieve this kind of environment, mixed metals and wood are the perfect combination. A match made in heaven, the copper votive holders, gold-rimmed chargers and gleaming bistro chairs are sure to bring the shine on your special day. Just add these stunning blooms from Celsia Florist and you’re all set for the wedding of the year!

TUSCAN ROMANTIC

Nothing says romantic quite like these lacy stoneware chargers, glimmering candle holders and elegant wine glasses. The sky-blue tint of the pressed glassware and the linens bring a pop of colour to this table’s neutral colour palette. The clean lines of the silverware help to balance the feminine aspect of this Tuscan-inspired masterpiece. If you and your honey are yearning for an elaborate destination wedding but want to ensure family and friends can attend, then this is the ideal option for you.

MODERN ARCHITECTURAL Modern architectural, not to be confused with modern industrial, places a significant amount of focus on structural and textural elements. This creation brings in strong black shades that dare to challenge many of the “light” elements of a traditional wedding. These sleek ghost chairs allow for one’s attention to be drawn to the central pieces of the tablescape. A variety of candle sizes and styles mimic the city skylines that we see across Rocky Mountain cities and across the world. This look is the ultimate design for the urban couple who loves modern art galleries, bustling restaurants and the dazzling city lights.
