FAQs

Can my daughter wear a facemask in School if she wants to?

Please don’t worry about this – yes, she can wear a mask if she wants to, and we anticipate that many students will choose to do so.

Who can my daughter talk to if she is worried?

We recognise that good mental health is essential for pupils to thrive in school; in addition to the Pastoral

Managers, we therefore have four highly-skilled School Counsellors who provide 1:1 or group counselling in School at a time convenient for your daughter.

What if my daughter feels unwell during the day or night?

If your daughter is unwell she will be able to visit the on-site Medical

Centre straight away during the day, and she will be able to make any additional appointments with a doctor or the hospital if needed.

Roedean staff would accompany your daughter to the hospital should a visit be necessary. At night, each boarding house will have its own ‘on call’ member of staff to deal with any emergencies.

What happens if my daughter is feeling unwell with possible Covid-19 symptoms?

The first stage will be progressing testing and self-isolation for a few days until the results are back. This period of self-isolation will be at Roedean in the Health Centre which is set up for quarantine, or, if you prefer, she can reside with her guardian during this time.

Where is the nearest hospital?

The Royal Sussex County Hospital is 5 minutes from Roedean by car, and the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital is 3 miles away.

How will my daughter get to School from the airport?

We understand that travel to School may present some difficulties, and we will endeavour to facilitate this as much as possible. At the start of term, Roedean will provide school minibuses to collect girls from Gatwick and Heathrow airports wherever possible, so there is no need for your daughter to travel by taxi or public transport. We anticipate that there will be three services available each day (morning, afternoon, evening) ahead of the start of term.

What if my daughter is unable to travel home over the October half term?

Boarders will have the option of staying with their UK guardian. If possible, the boarding houses will remain open, and the School will work alongside guardians to ensure that all students are accommodated over half term.
