Iguess you can call it post mid-life crisis where I decided to swap my very ordinary serviceable day car for a Porsche Boxster.

Hubby Mark and I have been into classic sports cars for many years but we decided that the time had come for a change and I wanted to enjoy a few more creature comforts.

After purchasing the Boxster at Porsche Centre Brighton in midSeptember we decided to join PCV as we found that the club runs many and varied outings and activities that we felt we would love to be a part of.

Our first outing was the Last Run to Eildon on 27th November with lunch at the Boat Club. We arrived nice and early at Porsche Centre Melbourne and joined the small but growing group of fellow travelers.

As we are very new to the club and hadn’t yet received our membership cards (only the lanyards) we made our own little cards saying “Hi, I’m new. Jan” and “Hi, I’m new. Mark”. This seemed to work a treat, with people noticing that we were new and straight away joined us in their conversations and made us feel very welcome. We chatted to a range of different people and relaxed into the inclusive atmosphere.

After a detailed briefing from our run organizers it was off through the northern suburbs and into the countryside to Whittlesea and Flowerdale to our first stop at Yea for morning tea at one of the many lovely bakeries. It was also a great opportunity to meet and chat with more members (our little name cards were still working well) and everyone we spoke to was very welcoming and helpful. We even sorted out how to activate the daytime running lights on the car with some very helpful advice.

Soon it was back in the car and off to Eildon along some fabulous roads where I hope I wasn’t too slow for those following. Arriving in Eildon it was such a treat to see the lake at 100% capacity and soon we arrived at the Eildon Boat Club for lunch. Very soon we were chatting to Clyde White and many others before tucking in to a beautiful grazing table for entree and then a wonderful main meal plus dessert. No lack of food here!

After lunch we headed off on our return journey with Mark having a drive and both of us talking about how much we had enjoyed the day, the car, the drive and the people we had met and socialised with. Without preaching to the converted it really is truly marvelous to be included in a like-minded group with a common interest in their chosen vehicles and a desire to enjoy social events such as this one. We are both looking forward to many more such experiences with the Porsche Club Victoria for many years to come.
