Young Adult Care Services

Young Adult Care Services Additional Services Many of our young adults take part in voluntary work or work placements, both in house and out depending on ability and interest . For example, one of the young adults has volunteered at the local garden centre, while another is interested in computers and provides support at Head Office. We are currently in the process of developing a café within the college site to provide further work experience opportunities in a supported environment alongside a Design Technology room.

Thank you for you interest in Birtenshaw’s Care Services for young adults (18-25)

Our vision is ‘brightening lives and building futures’ for young people with a moderate to severe learning disability, significant physical disability, and/or complex health needs. We offer care and support to enable young adults to live as independently as possible within a warm, supportive environment where even those who have struggled to reach their potential can now thrive. The adult care teams provide personal care and support, promoting the development of independent living and motivating young adults to participate in a range of leisure activities, educational programmes and social opportunities which offer positive challenges within a safe and secure environment. Services: - Supported Tenancies - Adult Short Breaks

Safeguarding

- Domiciliary Care

Keeping the young adults safe is our top priority. All our staff have enhanced DBS clearance (formally CRB) and participate in extensive adult safeguarding training, training on mental capacity act and deprivation of liberties training.

Choosing services for someone with complex needs can be a difficult decision. We recognise that everyone is different and how important it is to listen to the adult and those that know them well. If you would like to view our services or would like further information about our services I would be delighted to meet you.

The breaks can be arranged for a few hours during the day or evening to overnight and weeklong stays. Accommodation is provided in a short stay centre which is attached to our college. Facilities include 8 single occupancy rooms on two floors which are adapted to meet the needs of young people with physical disabilities, including complex health needs, as well as adults with learning disabilities. The accommodation is tastefully decorated in low stimulus colours to support those young adults with autism. All rooms are fully accessible for wheelchairs and have a tracking hoist. There are fully adapted wet rooms on both floors, kitchen facilities, sitting room and dining room. Facilities:

“We’ve been able to spend quality time with our other son knowing that our young person has been safe, happy and care for, able to learn at last and able to participate in new activities and opportunities for the first time in a very long time. You have glued our family back together and given us time to recharge our batteries. We will be forever grateful as you’ve given us hope for the future instead of the despair we’ve all felt for a long time.”

- Sensory Room The service users will have the opportunity to socialise with other people of a similar ability. Their independent living skills will be encouraged with the aim of promoting social emotional and physical wellbeing.
