vegan sausage pasta A quick and simple vegan dish. Cherry tomatoes are roasted with garlic just until they pop and blister, for a lovely intensified tomato flavour that’s lighter and fresher-tasting than a classic tomato sauce.
ingredients method 400g cherry tomatoes 4 garlic cloves, sliced 3 tbsp olive oil 300g pack Linda McCartney’s 6 Vegetarian Sausages 2 courgettes, trimmed and sliced Pinch salt 300g elicoidali pasta tubes Handful basil leaves (Serves 4)
1. Preheat the oven to 200ËšC, gas mark 6. Toss the tomatoes, garlic and 2 tbsp oil in a roasting tin; season. Remove the packaging and film from the sausages but leave in the foil tray. Put the roasting tin and foil tray in the oven for 15 minutes, giving each one a toss halfway through. 2. Heat the remaining 1 tbsp oil in a large non-stick frying pan and fry the courgettes with the pinch of salt for about 8 minutes, turning regularly until golden. In a separate pan of boiling water, simmer the pasta for 10-12 minutes then drain, reserving a cup of pasta water. 3. Remove the courgettes from the frying pan and set aside on a plate. Slice the sausages and add to the pan, frying for a couple of minutes, then tip in the pasta, tomatoes, any roasting juices, 2-3 tbsp pasta water and the courgettes. Toss together briefly and serve scattered with basil leaves.
cooking tip Top with toasted flaked almonds to serve, if liked.

involved in the construction industry and will affect almost all businesses in this industry in some way. HMRC will issue penalties for non-compliance
How do I know my bookkeeping is correct?
Q. A.
‘Reverse Charge for CIS’, what is this?
I am a VAT registered subcontractor and I have heard about something called the Reverse charge for CIS. I don’t know what this is and what am I meant to do?
Q.
From 1st October 2020, delayed from 1st October 2019, VAT-registered subcontractors will no longer charge VAT on certain construction services to another VAT-registered business. Instead, the customer will ‘self-account’ for any VAT due – this is known as the Reverse Charge. So as a subcontractor supplying your services to a contractor, you will no longer show VAT on your invoice. Instead you will need the following wording on your invoice ‘This supply is subject to the Reverse Charge’. You will therefore have no output VAT to declare on your VAT return for affected transactions. Instead the contractor, will show your output VAT on their VAT return with the input VAT they would normally declare, so in effect it goes in and out on their VAT return. The Reverse Charge is being introduced in the construction industry to tackle ‘missing trader fraud’. Missing trader fraud occurs when construction companies are formed and deliver services. Rather than pay the output VAT charged on their sales to HMRC they soon close the business and disappear with the VAT they collected from their customers. The Reverse Charge is a massive change for anyone

I use a cloud based bookkeeping software but how do I know if I have correctly recorded everything?
The good news is that cloud bookkeeping software does take a lot of the hard work out for you. Your accountant’s job is to use your software and perform reconciliations and checks to ensure that your software has not only included everything but also that everything has been categorised and treated correctly. This will typically be done alongside some work that needs to be completed on your behalf such as a VAT return, a tax return or annual accounts. Like most software it will do what you tell it to, but it cannot interpret legislation, so unfortunately if you don’t know what to do with an item your software isn’t going to be able to help. Some software nowadays has an ability to learn by the use of ‘rules’. These rules can used to classify an item automatically. For example, say you receive a petrol receipt from a garage. If you class it as fuel, the software will remember this and automatically classify items from this garage as fuel going forward, unless you tell it differently. TaxAssist Accountants, has lots of experience with a range of cloud bookkeeping software and can help you from getting it set up correctly, to giving you training, right through to performing checks to ensure it is complete and accurate.

Gardening with Auntie Planty MAILBAG FOR NOVEMBER
Q1: I have had a wonderful display of summer bedding this year. Is there any way that I can help them survive the winter? A1: Busy lizzies, coleus and fibrous rooted begonias can all be lifted and brought indoors, but do it before they are damaged by frost. Carefully lift each one, keeping a reasonable root ball and plant into 15cm pots. Cut off any damaged stems, and any that are long and spindly. Water as necessary and feed weekly with a weak fertiliser. Ensure that the plants have a good light, and don’t forget to turn the pots regularly to stop them growing lop-sided.
A3: You really do need to remove them regularly. If you allow them to linger on the lawn, then you’ll kill off the grass Recently fallen leaves are crisper than the sodden mess they become if allowed to lie for a while.. Pile them into plastic bin-bags, tie the tops and poke a few breathing holes at the bottom and place them in a corner of the garden to rot down.
Q4: I would like to plant up some hanging baskets to last through the winter. Are there any special do’s and don’ts to guarantee that the plants will survive the cold weather. Q2: I invested quite a lot of money this year in A4: If you’re thinking of using winter flowering pansies, terracotta pots, but my friend has told me that if I then you really must plant them up early, and by this I leave them outside they will crack and break. SEASONAL SPLASH FROM A TRIO OF CHOIRS
Returning to Addlestone Community Centre after their sell-out concert success at the venue two years ago, the hugely entertaining and impressive Elmbridge Choir and Elmbridge Ladies Choir will be back with a colourful splash this Christmas, this time proudly sharing the stage with their newly- formed sister choir, Surrey Rainbow Choir. Taking place on Saturday 30th November at 7pm, “Colours of Winter” promises a gentle lead-in to the Christmas season with a programme of joyous and heart-warming seasonal songs. “We’re really looking forward to another great concert in Addlestone, and in particular to be introducing Surrey Music’s newest group, Surrey Rainbow Choir, to the public”, says Cliff van Tonder, Founder and CEO of Surrey Music. “We are so proud of our shiny new choir and can’t wait for their first performance - it’s going to be
fab-u-lous!!” Surrey Rainbow Choir is the third choir founded and formed by Surrey Music, and the first and only LGBTQ+ choir in Surrey. Launched just weeks ago with almost 100 signed up members, the choir promises to deliver a cohesive and compelling performance under the musical direction of Christopher Wray. Surrey Music’s concerts are known for the sheer joy and entertainment they bring to the audience; the songs are delivered with a generous mix of humour and passion. With three fantastic choirs performing a varied programme, there’s no doubt that this year’s Christmas offering will deliver festive cheer in abundance. Tickets priced at £12 (adults), £5 (under 18) are available now from www.wintercolours.co.uk.

FIAT PANDA CAR REVIEW BY TED MACAULEY
Who could fail to love a Panda? No wonder they are so popular and stir such admiration and affection. They have rare appeal mainly because they are engaging, attractive and are relatively inexpensive to maintain. My emphasis is focussed on the little joys manufactured by Fiat. Their Panda, not the newest brand on our highways and byways, is a surefire winner in the hotly contested small city car market where value for money is a premium factor. Producing small cars is a Fiat stronghold.Their Panda was revitalised for an eagerly welcomed relaunch in 2011 - and the Italian masters of the small car have continuously and painstakingly updated and improved its performance and kerbside appeal. It may not be as super sophisticated as its foremost rival, the Volkswagen Up, but on the road, where it really matters, its response to one’s demands is very satisfying. It is safe and sound. As nippy as needs be on just about every hectic and threatening trip into the city from the suburbs. And, as an essential safety-first extra, the latest Panda
offers an ‘imminent collision detection’ device which slams on the brakes automatically if it feels a prang threatens. How about that for considered concern? Basically, not too much has changed over the years and it still prefers practicality over pompous style. It is a tad taller than other city cars and it’s five doors offer easy access even to the most stiffly backed among us. In the cabin the high mounted gear lever is rather sporty, the dashboard is a clutter of essential info and the wise buyer can choose from half-a-dozen interior colours to match with at least 10 exterior shades. So you may personalise it to your individual fancy, the same goes for the excellent 500- model. There is also, a ‘DualDrive’ button to take the weight off the steering and for ease of parking. Things just get better don’t they? All in all, to my mind, the Panda is an enjoyable and popular little eye-catcher. Just like it’s four legged, fury namesake..... Specification: Two petrol, one diesel.Warranty 60,000 miles. Prices range from £9,800 to £18,300. My choice: 85bhp TwinAir Easy 4x4. Mpg:37.7. Speed 0-62 mph in 12 secs. Cost £14,865.

Inspiration!
Take Charge of Your Life I LOVE 4-colour biros. I love stationery in general, but with four colour biros, it goes deeper than that - it’s a thing! However, I don’t actually like the ubiquitous hard plastic Bic pens that are in most stationery departments. I like the type with a see-through barrel and a soft, moulded grip, which are harder to find. The Japanese chain Muji once stocked a pen I was over the moon about – three colours and a retractable pencil. Bliss! But last time I went in for my 4-colour fix, I was told it had been discontinued. I was gutted. How could life do this to me? And then it occurred to me. Maybe I could find one myself. Elsewhere. Goodness, the excitement. I put “4-colour biros with pencil” into my search engine and - voilà - up popped a whole page of companies trying to tempt me with their wares. And not just four colours. 6-colour biros! Choose-your-own-colourcombination biros! I had found the Aladdin’s Cave of multi-coloured pens. I ordered a 5-colour biro with retractable pencil and eraser! And I moved from being at the mercy of one company’s policy, aka a victim, to being the architect of my own life. I recently had a client who was going through an uncharacteristic (for her) period of feeling unmotivated. She had left her unfulfulling job to find a better one – but she wasn’t actually doing much to find it. The property she had been trying to sell for a year wasn’t moving - but neither was she. She had a deadline on some course work towards a professional qualification – but she had been putting it off for 18 months. Here was an intelligent, usually dynamic woman who felt nothing was working in her life.
Most of us go through phases of feeling unproductive or overwhelmed at some time or another, and usually, unless there’s a medical cause, we can find our way back out. But the longer we leave it, the harder it can be, and the more it can feel as though the problem is ‘out there’, with everything going wrong. Once we take charge of our response to events in our life, there’s always something we can do, however small, to get the ball rolling again. Do you ever feel stuck or overwhelmed or find yourself putting things off? What’s getting in the way? What are you avoiding? What is one small step you could take today? Who will you hold yourself accountable to? And how will you feel when you’ve taken that step? My client knew she needed some help to get back on track quickly. She was amazing, and in less than three months of working together, she achieved all three of her objectives. You can do this!

POEM CORNER RAIN Young faces gaze upwards, laughing, Eager hands stretch out in glee, Then the rain falls gently down, And the pavements have spots And the puddles patterns, People scurry, raindrops hurry In races down the panes, Umbrellas sprout and snails come out, The grass is green, and for a while, The world is clean again. Gaunt faces gaze upwards, pleading, Thin arms are raised in hope, Then down it comes in torrents Coursing down ravaged cheeks Like streams of tears Quietening fears of immediate death. Alas, to-day’s joyful coming of the rains Is a future furious flood Causing havoc and destruction Till only the stench remains. We see your destructive beauty, We hear your drumming beat, And love the earthy sweet smell, Of damp leaves beneath our feet. Tour cooling fingers sooth our brain, God’s creatures become alive again, We marvel at your power As in awe we stand, For the gifts of Life and Death Are cradled in your hand.
