RAMADAN Celebrated by Muslims around the world, the holy month of Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, beginning in April this year, sees the faithful give up bad habits and try to spend as much time as possible with family and friends, while also helping people in need. Celebrating its 10th year, this unique festival is held in a stunning location in the town of Polkovnik Serafimovo, some 850 metres above sea level. Boasting staggering views, the event promotes social harmony and selfexpression. And while the line-up of creative musicians is mainly outside the mainstream, it is now starting to attract some more established acts.

First held in 1986, this annual five-day film festival in Sodankylä shows movies around the clock as the sun continues to shine almost 24 hours a day. There is a packed programme, with more than 30 films from all parts of the world shown, from Hollywood classics to contemporary Finnish titles. As well as attracting acclaimed directors such as Francis Ford Coppola, it also introduces four or five young filmmakers who are looking to make their mark.

The third Grand Slam of the year and the most prestigious grass court tournament in the world, this historic event has taken place at the All England Club in Wimbledon since 1877. Those fortunate enough to attend will not only have the chance to watch the incredible action, but indulge in traditional strawberries and cream, with a staggering 33 tonnes consumed at last year’s event.

Explore one of the kingdom’s most historic regions A district with a fascinating history that dates back more than 500 years, At-Turaif is regarded as one of the most important political and historical sites in Saudi Arabia. Even though this work is underway, the district can still be explored and is home to the Imam Mohammad bin Saud Mosque and the remains of the many palaces that were built on the edge of the Ad Diriyah oasis.

With a passion for cooking that dates back to his childhood, when he helped his father run his small hummus and falafel shop, Munier moved to Bangkok where he fell in love with the exotic ingredients and beautiful flavours. After returning home to Jordan, he joined The Boulevard Arjaan by Rotana, where he has honed his culinary skills and inspired his two children to follow in his footsteps.

Start off right: Baked Camembert Cheese This is definitely my favourite appetiser as the baking process makes the cheese so gooey and soft, which in turn makes dipping the croustade very easy. Served with fig jam, quince paste and plenty of croustades, it is ideal to share with friends and family and, of course, is full of flavour.

This is a very special dish as it reflects the best of French cuisine. Not only does it have a great taste but it is very creative in its presentation. We like to use fresh and seasonal products which help us create a rich mushroom and chicken gravy that is served in a pastry with a potato and celeriac mash. It is delicious.

The big finish: Blackberry Breton Café Margaux doesn’t have a dessert section on its menu, but rather a dessert bar inside the café that presents freshly baked French pastries on a daily basis. The Breton is my favourite as it is a classic dish from Brittany that relies on fresh and ripe blackberries to produce its sweet flavour.

As evening approaches, make your way to Riyadh’s most famous and stunning piece of architecture, the Kingdom Centre

built in 1865 and was once an important defensive structure for the entire country. The site of a daring raid by Ibn Saud in 1902, it was during this attack that a spear was hurled at the main entrance door with such force that the tip remains lodged in the doorway to this very day. Within the fortress, which is located in the old quarter of Riyadh, is a huge collection of artefacts signifying the early days in the development of Saudi Arabia. There are maps

and photographs of the kingdom dating all the way back to 1912, as well as some fascinating films that explain the reunification of Saudi Arabia. As evening approaches, make your way to Riyadh’s most famous and stunning piece of architecture, the Kingdom Centre. Rising 302 metres and lit up with constantly changing coloured

lights, the city’s centrepiece perfectly demonstrates how the capital has modernised and embraced change. Here high-speed lifts take you up to the 99th floor where the iconic Sky Bridge is housed. Extending 65 metres, this impressive steel structure provides the opportunity to overlook the whole of Riyadh. The tower also houses numerous restaurants and a shopping mall where you’ll find luxury stores and exclusive boutiques. DAY TWO Just a 30-minute drive from the centre of Riyadh, the Dirab Desert is ideal for those seeking some adventure. If you want to avoid the bustling markets and prefer to explore designer brands and high-end concept stores, there are plenty of options throughout Marrakech. Akkal in the Quartier Industriel is home to unique stores that specialise in ceramics and colourful fabrics, while Kulchi has a plethora of textile and print stores. When it comes to fashion, Norya ayroN has a small boutique that takes traditional Moroccan attire and brings them into the modern day with colourful fabrics. Here you will discover a unique selection of kaftans and kandouras, and while the shop may be small, it has attracted a host of A-list celebrities. Equally interesting is Max&Jan, an extremely hip store that has a huge selection of handbags, accessories and stylish babouche slippers. The shop also has a huge range of souvenirs to mark your trip to the beautiful city.

There is no end of markets and souks in Marrakech, and it can often be difficult to tell where one ends and another begins. But perhaps the most famous is Djemaa El Fna in the medina quarter of the city. A hectic melting pot of colours, flavours and fragrances, this huge square is home to souvenir stalls, snake handlers and vendors selling hand-crafted gems. As well as the array of classic Morrocan wares, from lamps to leather, there is no end of cafés serving up delicious lamb dishes and mint tea.

One of the newer souks in the UAE, Sharjah’s Central Souk was opened in 1979 and is a hugely popular shopping location for both locals and visitors to the emirate. Also known as the Blue Souk thanks to its beautiful blue tiles, it is considered as one of the best places in the country to buy Persian carpets and colourful kilims from Afghanistan and Kashmir. There is also a wealth of Bedouin jewellery available, with talented craftsmen able to recreate designs based on photos or sketches.

he ultimate status symbol, the Birkin bag needs no introduction. Since its ‘birth’ in the 1980s, the Birkin has become the quintessential fashion accessory as well as a collectors’ piece. A favourite of the rich and famous over the decades, it is rumoured that Victoria Beckham has over 100, and others, including Kate Moss and Kim Kardashian, have made it a fashion must-have. Legend has it that the original design was penned on an in-flight sick bag and the rest is history. The Kelly was originally created in 1892, when Hermès produced a large bag to hold a saddle. It had been renamed from its original box-style Sac à Dépêches in 1956 after actress Grace Kelly was snapped using it to shield her pregnant belly from prying paparazzi. Now in two styles, it saw a revamp in the 1980s, with a shoulder strap added as standard. The Birkin, which takes around 18-20 hours for an artisan to make, has become so soughtafter with only a limited circulation, that it has frequently set records around the world. At an auction in Dallas in 2011, a Red Porosus Crocodile Birkin with 18-carat gold and diamond hardware sold for US$203,150. In 2017 in Hong Kong, an Hermès Crocodile Himalaya Birkin 30 with 18-carat white gold and diamond hardware sold at auction for £208,175 at Christie’s. In 2016, Hermès Birkin bags were even announced as a better investment than gold. In spite of the continued reign of the Kelly and Birkin, the collections of Constance and Evelyne remain equally popular amongst fashionistas around the world.

The Constance is the brand’s third most popular style and it was a favourite of Jackie Kennedy. The design is synonymous with a host of contemporary style icons, including Anna Dello Russo and Diane Kruger. Though the Birkin continues to steal the headlines, the handcrafted luxury across the collections continues to inspire men and women around the world. Now regarded as one of the world’s foremost luxury houses, its vast product portfolio includes everything from luggage and leather goods to saddles, scarves and silk ties. Ready-to-wear for both men and women, the brand has been equally successful in producing jewellery, hats, gloves, footwear, fragrances and even tableware. Production continues in Paris, where the brand was founded as a family business six generations ago, and is now headed by cousins Pierre-Alexis and Axel Dumas. The legacy brand continues to train around 200 craftsmen each year and although its collections have evolved, including even a surprise collaboration with Apple creating leather watch straps, it has stayed true to its equestrian roots. In spite of waiting lists which can be years long, the brand is in no hurry to move faster, because indeed, all good things come to those who wait.

halid Al Qasimi made an indelible mark on the world of men’s fashion. The son of the ruler of Sharjah, he became the world’s first Emirati to truly make it to the upper echelons of a society new to the Gulf region. Founder of the brand Qasimi, he moved radically away from the kandoura-wearing traditions of his tribal roots and plunged head-first into another world, one inspired by Western street style and military vibes, a melding of poetry and politics with fashion. Such was his legacy that his casual collection is stocked in over 50 stores in 15 countries. The designer’s premature and untimely death in 2019, aged just 39, was a tragedy at home and abroad. A graduate in architecture and fashion design from Central Saint Martins in London, it was in the British capital city that the Sharjah royal launched his eponymous label. And now, it is his twin sister, Sheikha Hoor, also educated in London, at the Slade School of Fine Art and Royal Academy of Arts, who will continue his legacy. Creativity and design obviously ran between the twins; Sheikha Hoor is also the woman behind the Sharjah Biennial and Sharjah Art Foundation. It may be a men’s collection, but the elegant Sheikha with a clear style of her own is ready to take the reigns. The talented young lady speaks nine languages: Arabic, English, Japanese and Mandarin fluently; and Tagalog, French, German, Russian and Polish conversationally. Her cultural prowess sees her in a variety of international roles, including serving on the board of many museums, such as MoMa’s PS1 in New York. However, it will not be an easy task to step into the shoes of a man whose brand was a mirror of his soul. The label’s narrative centres around the idea of an urban nomad – a nod to the family’s Bedouin history. Also, having grown up witness to a region torn by war from Iraq to Syria, Lebanon to Afghanistan, he openly spoke about the military influences in everything from style to colour.

The latest collections have the late Sheikh’s trademark clearly stamped. Military-style shorts and trousers as well as camouflage-print shirts show that the creative director is, so far, adhering well and truly to the brand’s DNA. Influences of the desert and sea can be felt in the colours. It’s breezy yet earthy with new fabrics and tones thrown in with an expected touch of feminine elegance. Messages of peace are emblazoned on T-shirts in English, French and Arabic, with phrases such as ‘Don’t shoot’ and ‘Never forget’. The ‘HUA’ shirt is a tribute to the military acronym, a response to a command, which means ‘heard, understood, acknowledged’. Through emotive messaging, his goal was to move people, and with Sheikha Hoor’s voice already very much a respected one in the art scene, there is no doubt that the messaging will not be fading out any time soon. In June, she will present her own inaugural Spring/Summer 2021 collection and her debut is much awaited. Sheikha Hoor bravely took her brother’s final collection to the stage with the help of Adam Rice, the brand’s head of design, at January’s London Fashion Week. It was lauded as a triumphant return and his moving messaging was even more poignant in his absence. One jacket featured a setting sun, emblazoned with the words: “Every sun has to set – to rise again.” It was no doubt a fitting mark to the rebirth of a brand and the rise of its next star.

Never standing still With a host of new developments set to be completed throughout the UAE this year, the country is only enhancing its reputation as a must-visit destination by Nasser Al Nowais, Chairman, Rotana

hen Beach Rotana opened in Abu Dhabi back in 1993, it would have been impossible to predict just how far the UAE has come in such a relatively short space of time. The rate of growth has been nothing short of incredible, with the landscape of the country completely changing in less than 30 years. Therefore, it is no surprise that 2020 will bring yet more change with a host of new attractions opening across the emirates. In Dubai, the enormous Mohammed bin Rashid Library will become a leading landmark thanks to its striking design and astonishing collection of more than 4.5 million books. The sevenstorey building has been constructed to resemble an open book sitting on a rehl – a traditional lectern which holds the Quran. In contrast to this cultural attraction, Ain Dubai is due to open this year and is set to become one of the most popular tourist spots in the emirate. The jewel in the crown of Bluewaters Island, the world’s largest observation wheel will be able to carry up to 1,400 passengers at a time across 48 double-glazed capsules. In the capital, The National Aquarium in Al Qana will house 33,000 marine animals in a 7,000-square-metre space with ten zones, while Snow Abu Dhabi on Reem Island will be the world’s largest indoor ski slope and will allow visitors to experience temperatures of -2 degrees celsius and 50-centimetre-deep snow in the middle of the desert. Ras Al Khaimah is also adding to its adventure credentials with a controlled bungee jump coming to the emirate. Located in Jebel Jais and sitting at a height of 1,500 metres above sea level, visitors will be able to choose between an eight-metre free fall or a controlled fall of 15 metres. It is this variety and constant willingness to evolve that has helped to shape the UAE. It is also why the country continues to attract record numbers of visitors, with each emirate ensuring that there is a wealth of attractions that appeal to a wide range of tourists. This has helped to transform the emirates into a fascinating destination and it is why we at Rotana continue to expand within the country. This year, we are opening Al Jaddaf Rotana in Dubai’s

‫لمع اسم خالد القاسمي من دون منازع في عالم الموضة‬ ‫وأشهر منصات تصميم األزياء في العالم‪ ،‬بعد أن أصبح‬ ‫أول إماراتي يحقق حضوراً قوياً في صناعة ال تعرف‬ ‫منطقة الخليج عن خباياها الكثير‪.‬‬ ‫اختار صاحب العالمة التجارية “قاسمي” أن يبتعد‬ ‫كثيراً عن تراث “الكندورة” في وطنه‪ ،‬وأن يبادر بلك‬ ‫جرأة إلى خوض تجربة جديدة في عالم األزياء‪ ،‬ليقدم‬ ‫لنا تصاميم ذات روح غربي مبتكر‪ ،‬جمع من خاللها بين‬ ‫قلم شاعر وريشة فنان‪ ،‬لتحمل لك قطعة قصة مزجت بين‬ ‫القضايا السياسية ولمسات الموضة‪ ،‬في لوحة فنية ورسالة‬ ‫تواصل مبدعة‪ .‬وجاءت وفاة نجل حاكم إمارة الشارقة في‬ ‫العام ‪ ،2019‬وهو في ربيعه التاسع والثالثين‪ ،‬بمثابة صدمة‬ ‫خيمت على عموم دولة اإلمارات وكذلك العاصمة البريطانية‬ ‫لندن‪ ،‬حيث اكن القاسمي مستقراً منذ أن تابع دراسته وتخرج من‬ ‫قسم العمارة وتصميم األزياء بسنترال سان مارتنز‪ ،‬لندن‪ .‬ومن هناك‬ ‫بدأ بتقديم مجموعاته الخاصة من األزياء‪ ،‬التي تتواجد اليوم في أكثر‬ ‫من خمسين متجراً في خمس عشرة دولة‪.‬‬ ‫واليوم‪ ،‬قررت شقيقته التوأم‪ ،‬الشيخة حور القاسمي‪ ،‬والتي تلقت‬ ‫تعليمها في لندن كذلك‪ ،‬في لكية سليد للفنون الجميلة واألاكديمية‬ ‫الملكية للفنون‪ ،‬أن تحافظ على إرث أخيها حياً متجدداً‪ .‬والواضح أن روح اإلبداع‬ ‫والتصميم اكنت القاسم المشترك بين التوأم؛ فالشيخة حور هي من ُينسب إليها‬ ‫الفضل في بث الحياة في مشهد الفنون بالشارقة‪ ،‬من خالل اإلشراف على بينالي‬ ‫الشارقة ثم إنشاء مؤسسة الشارقة للفنون‪.‬‬ ‫وعلى الرغم من أنها مجموعة أزياء للرجال‪ ،‬لكن الشيخة‪ ،‬التي عرف عنها‬ ‫أناقتها بأسلوب يميزها عن غيرها يمزج بين الشرق والغرب‪ ،‬مؤهلة ألن‬ ‫تجدد المسيرة‪ .‬نحن أمام شابة موهوبة تتحدث بتسع لغات‪ :‬العربية‬ ‫واإلنجليزية واليابانية والماندرين بطالقة؛ والتاغالوغية والفرنسية‬ ‫واأللمانية والروسية والبولندية أيضاً‪ .‬ولها دور ثقافي الفت‬ ‫على الصعيد الدولي؛ فهي عضوة بمجالس إدارة العديد‬ ‫من المتاحف‪ ،‬من قبيل بما في ذلك ‪ MoMa’s PS1‬في‬ ‫نيويورك‪ .‬ولن تكون مهمتها سهلة في إدارة عالمة‬ ‫تجارية اكنت مرآة لروح أخيها خالد‪ .‬فخطاب عالمته‬ ‫المحوري هو إبراز إرث عائلته الصحراوي العريق والربط‬ ‫بينه وبين ما شهده في فترات تكوينه في وطن‬ ‫على حافة منطقة مزقتها الحروب‪ ،‬من العراق‬

‫إن الحرفية الراقية التي تميز جميع‬ ‫مجموعات هيرميس ال تزال تلهم الرجال‬ ‫والنساء حول العالم‬

‫حقيبة كيلي‬

‫للنبالء الباريسيين‪ .‬وجاء تصميم الحقيبة بعد لقاء‬ ‫الممثلة البريطانية جين بيركين‪ ،‬التي تحمل الحقيبة‬ ‫اسمها‪ ،‬والرئيس التنفيذي السابق لهيرميس‪ ،‬جان‬ ‫لويس دوماس‪ ،‬خالل رحلة بالطائرة من باريس إلى‬ ‫لندن‪ .‬في هذه الرحلة ألمحت الممثلة‪ ،‬التي اكنت‬ ‫مرتبكة بعد سقوط محتويات حقيبة اليد التي اكنت‬ ‫تحملها على األرض‪ ،‬بأن حقيبة “كيلي” األيقونية‬ ‫صغيرة جداً وأن النساء بحاجة إلى حقيبة فيها‬ ‫المزيد من الجيوب‪ .‬تقول القصة بأن الرسم األولي‬ ‫لحقيبة بيركين وضع على الكيس الورقي المخصص‬ ‫للمرضى على متن الطائرة‪ ،‬وما عقب ذلك ما هو‬ ‫إال تفاصيل أدت لظهور هذه التحفة الجميلة‪.‬‬ ‫أما حقيبة كيلي فظهرت عام ‪ ،1892‬وأطلق‬ ‫عليها هذا االسم رسمياً عام ‪ 1956‬بعد أن‬ ‫التقطت صورة لألميرة غريس كيلي وهي تحمل‬ ‫واحدة‪ .‬وأصبحت بيركين التي يحتاج الحرفي الواحد‬ ‫حوالي ‪ 20 – 18‬ساعة لصنع واحدة منها‪،‬‬ ‫الحقيبة األكثر طلباً وضمن قائمة محدودة فقط‬ ‫من العمالء الذين يمكنهم الحصول عليها‪ .‬وفي‬ ‫مزاد علني أقيم في داالس عام ‪ ،2011‬بيعت‬ ‫حقيبة بيركين مصنوعة من جلد تمساح مع‬ ‫تفاصيل من الماس والذهب عيار ‪ 18‬قيراط مقابل‬ ‫‪ 203,150‬دوالراً‪ .‬وفي عام ‪ ،2017‬بيعت بيركين‬ ‫من جلد تمساح الهمااليا ‪ 30‬مع تفاصيل من‬ ‫الماس والذهب األبيض عيار ‪ 18‬قيراط في مزاد‬ ‫كريستي أقيم في هونج كونج بمبلغ ‪208,175‬‬

‫جنيه إسترليني‪ .‬وفي عام ‪ ،2016‬اعتبرت حقائب‬ ‫هيرميس أداة استثمار أفضل من الذهب‪.‬‬ ‫على الرغم من استمرار هيمنة حقيبتي‬ ‫كيلي وبيركين‪ ،‬إال أن المجموعات األخرى بما فيها‬ ‫كونستانس وإيفيلين‪ ،‬ال تزاالن تحظيان بشعبية‬ ‫كبيرة بين عاشقات الموضة في جميع أنحاء العالم‪.‬‬ ‫وعلى الرغم من أن حقيبة بيركين ال تزال تسرق‬ ‫األضواء والعناوين الرئيسية‪ ،‬إال أن الحرفية الراقية‬ ‫التي تميز جميع مجموعات هيرميس ال تزال تلهم‬ ‫الرجال والنساء حول العالم‪ ،‬حيث تعد الدار الفرنسية‬ ‫اليوم واحدة من أهم المنازل الفاخرة في العالم‪.‬‬ ‫تشمل مجموعة منتجاتها لك شيء بدءاً من‬ ‫حقائب السعر والمنتجات الجلدية وحتى السروج‬ ‫واألوشحة ورباطات العنق المصنوعة من الحرير‪.‬‬ ‫وإضافة إلى المالبس الجاهزة للرجال والنساء‪ ،‬نجحت‬ ‫العالمة التجارية في تصميم المجوهرات والقبعات‬ ‫والقفازات واألحذية والعطور وأدوات المائدة‪.‬‬ ‫يتم اإلنتاج في باريس حيث تأسست العالمة‬ ‫التجارية كشركة عائلية منذ ستة أجيال‪ ،‬ويرأسها‬ ‫اآلن أبناء العمومة بيير ألكسي وأكسل دوما‪.‬‬ ‫تواصل العالمة التجارية العريقة تدريب حوالي‬ ‫‪ 200‬حرفي لك عام‪ ،‬ورغم التطور الكبير الذي‬ ‫شهدته تصاميمها‪ ،‬بما في ذلك التعاون غير‬ ‫المتوقع مع شركة آبل إلنتاج سوار ساعة من الجلد‪،‬‬ ‫فقد حافظت الدار على جذورها األصيلة المرتبطة‬ ‫برياضة الفروسية‪ .‬وعلى الرغم من قوائم االنتظار‬ ‫التي قد تستغرق سنوات طويلة للحصول على‬ ‫حقائب هيرميس‪ ،‬إال أنه ليس لدى الدار الراقية أي‬ ‫نية لتسريع عجلة االنتاج‪ ،‬ألن من ينتظرون يحظون‬ ‫باألشياء الجيدة‪.‬‬

‫تشهد ليالي رمضان في العراق إحياء للعبة “المحيبس” الشعبية‬ ‫ً‬ ‫التراثية‪ ،‬والتي صارت ال تلعب إال في الشهر الكريم خصوصاً ‪ ،‬وهي‬ ‫لعبة تعتمد باألساس على الفراسة لغة الجسد‪ .‬وتلعب "المحيبس"‬ ‫بفريقين وبأي عدد من المشتركين‪ ،‬ما بين عشرين وحتى مائتي‬ ‫مشترك وأكثر في لك فريق‪ ،‬ويقوم أحد الفريقين الذي يشتري‬ ‫المحبس (الخاتم) بعدد من النقاط يتم منحها للفريق اآلخر‪ ،‬بتخبئته‬ ‫بيد أحد أفراد فريقه دون علم الفريق الثاني‪ ،‬عندها يقوم أحد‬ ‫أفراد الفريق الثاني بالبحث عن المحبس بإسقاط األشخاص‪ ،‬الذي‬ ‫يعتقد بعدم وجود المحبس بيدهم‪ ،‬فإن أخرج أحد الالعبين واكن‬ ‫المحبس بيده يخسر الفريق‪ ،‬ويعاد تخبئة المحبس من جديد‪.‬‬ ‫وعالوة على طقوس هذه اللعبة ذات الشعبية الكبيرة‪ ،‬تنبض‬ ‫ليال‪ ،‬ويتنزه أهلها في الشوارع والحدائق‬ ‫المدن العراقية بالحياة ً‬ ‫ومنهم من يرتاد األسواق حتى وقت متأخر من الليل‪ .‬وربما يرجع‬ ‫ذلك إلى اعتياد الناس فرض حظر التجوال الليلي في أنحاء البالد‬ ‫لعدة سنوات‪.‬‬

‫المملكة العربية السعودية‬

‫بينما تتشابه طقوس االحتفاالت بالشهر الكريم في أنحاء المملكة‬ ‫بمثيالتها في البلدان األخرى‪ ،‬تنفرد منطقة الحجاز ببعض مظاهر‬ ‫االحتفال؛ حيث تحرق العديد من العائالت حبات المستكة‪ ،‬ومن ثم‬ ‫يقومون بتبخير األواني الخاصة بهم ببخور المستكة‪ ،‬فيما يسمى‬ ‫تبخير الاكسات‪ ،‬وكذلك تضع أفواه أباريق تحتوي على مياه زمزم‬ ‫فوق البخور بغية مزج مذاق مياه زمزم بعبق البخور‪.‬‬ ‫وتقدم العائالت على اإلفطار مشروبات صارت توصف بكونها‬ ‫رمضانية‪ ،‬ألن من النادر أن يتناولها أحد في غير رمضان‪ .‬ومن‬ ‫أشهرها قمر الدين والسوبيا‪ ،‬واألخير مشروب حجازي بامتياز‪ ،‬ويصنع‬ ‫من الشعير أو الخبز الذي نقع في الماء قبل أن ُيحلى المنقوع‬ ‫بالسكر والزبيب وعصير التمر هندي‪.‬‬

‫مصر‬

‫منذ أمد بعيد‪ ،‬اعتاد الصغار في مصر استقبال الشهر الفضيل‬ ‫بأغنية “وحوي يا وحوي” الشعبية بينما يتنقلون من منزل إلى آخر‬ ‫طلباً للحلوى والهدايا‪ .‬ويزين األهالي المنازل والشوارع واألزقة‬ ‫بأوراق الزينة والفوانيس زاهية األلوان التي ترمز إلى البهجة‬ ‫والوحدة‪.‬‬ ‫وبالرغم من أن إنارة الفانوس تبدو طقساً ثقافياً أكثر من كونها‬ ‫تقليداً دينياً ‪ ،‬إال أن ذلك أصبح مرتبطاً بشلك كبير بالشهر الكريم‪،‬‬ ‫حتى صار الفانوس من رموز الشهر لدى المصريين‪ .‬وتشير إحدى‬ ‫الروايات إلى أن أصوله تعود إلى العهد الفاطمي‪ ،‬وقت أن أمروا‬ ‫الناس حمل الشموع إلنارة طريق الخليفة المعز لدين الله الفاطمي‬ ‫ليلة وصوله إلى القاهرة‪ ،‬وصادف ذلك أول أيام رمضان‪.‬‬
