Welcome Hello and welcome to a new year with Rotana. As we celebrate the beginning of 2020, we look forward to the next few months, when the UAE will play host to some truly memorable events. Catering for a wide range of ages and interests, there is something for everyone to enjoy, from elite level sporting action and gastronomic festivals to international art fairs and cultural exhibitions. In the coming months, the UAE capital will welcome the world’s best golfers when the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship takes place in January, while in February the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships takes centre stage as a host of modern-day greats compete for the title. Then in March, the social event of the year takes place as the Dubai World Cup presents an opportunity to watch thoroughbred horses compete for a staggering prize fund. On top of these world-class sporting events, Art Dubai will return for a 14th edition; Louvre Abu Dhabi will welcome a new exhibition focusing on knightly culture and the act of chivalry, while Dubai Food Festival will showcase the culinary delights on offer in the emirate. Of course, the Dubai Food Festival is far from the only time that delicious food is showcased throughout the UAE. The country has developed an impressive culinary reputation and we are proud to contribute to this stature through our excellent range of restaurants. Our talented chefs create flavoursome dishes inspired by delicacies served around the world. While there is so much to appreciate in the UAE, the start of the year is a great time to travel further afield in the region as the wonderful weather means it is easy to explore all that the destination has to offer. One city that I love to visit is Amman, where Rotana will be opening a new hotel later this year. The ancient capital of Jordan is a fascinating city of contrasts, with modern buildings surrounded by the remnants of ancient civilisations. Saudi Arabia is also transforming into a fascinating destination and the Kingdom is constructing a host of impressive developments that will cater to a wide range of visitors. Especially intriguing is the Red Sea Project which will become home to a host of luxurious islands. Finally, we would like to extend our warm thanks to you, our valued guests, for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming you to our hotels across the region and beyond. LONDON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL JAN 10 - 19 · UNITED KINGDOM
Welcoming more than 10,000 people each year, this exciting film festival showcases productions from homegrown and international talent. Now in its 18th year, short films will be showcased in some of London’s most historic cinematic venues, from the Institute of Contemporary Arts and BFI Southbank to Curzon Soho and Dalston’s Grade II listed Rio. More than 500 films will be screened throughout the festival, carefully curated from in excess of 2,500 submissions.

This colourful annual event draws huge crowds each year as Amsterdam's beautiful city centre and canals are decorated with unique installations. MEDY NAHRAVANI We speak to the founder of award-winning architecture practice Design Haus Medy As a young child, Medy Nahravani would spend hours playing with Lego sets as he meticulously designed buildings and coordinated colours. This penchant for exploring new forms led to him accepting an internship in a design studio when he was just 18. Admire this glorious piece of modern Islamic architecture Breathtakingly beautiful, this striking mosque was a gift to the nation from Qaboos bin Said al Said, Sultan of Oman, to mark his 30th year of reign. Built from 300,000 tons of Indian sandstone, the mosque can accommodate 20,000 worshippers, including 750 women in a private musalla (prayer hall). An active place of worship, particularly for Friday prayers, visitors can explore the mosque but are required to dress modestly, covering arms, legs and avoiding tight clothing. This allows them to see the majesty of the complex that has the secondlargest hand-loomed Iranian carpet in the

Towering above Jordan’s capital on the largest hill in Amman, this historic site is surrounded by a 1,700-metre wall that dates all the way back to the Bronze Age. There is plenty for visitors to see, but perhaps the most famous and striking sights at the Citadel are the Temple of Hercules and Umayyad Palace. The former was built by the Romans and is renowned for containing a hand that is believed to have been from a large statue of Hercules. With a passion for cooking that dates back to his childhood when he helped his mother prepare family meals, Karki has been with Rotana for more than 17 years, working his way up from a kitchen steward to sous chef. Passionate about using fresh and simple ingredients, he loves to create something new by pairing unusual flavour combinations.
The main attraction: Atlantic salmon
Start off right: Scotch egg We have lots of small plates that are ideal for a starter, but my personal favourite is our scotch egg because it has a unique flavour. Our signature recipe includes veal, sage and rather than a hard-boiled egg, we ensure each portion features a molten egg yolk. This is then perfectly complemented by a rich dill sauce.
The key to this dish is the fresh ingredients as Atlantic salmon is renowned for its rich, robust flavour. We pair the fish with a creamy celeriac puree, a fresh tomato concasse and black olives. All of these flavours are subtle to ensure that it is the salmon that stands out as the star of the dish. This main course is always popular with our guests as it is both hearty and very healthy.
The big finish: Orange & pistachio cake Last but no means least, this dessert is a real favourite with guests as pistachios add a divine flavour to the cake, while the juice from the orange ensures it is extremely moist. The two flavours pair so well together and it is topped with whipped cream that features a hint of vanilla and an array of fresh berries. It’s a great way to finish a meal.

Dynamic Dar es Salaam Once a sleepy fishing village, the Tanzanian city has transformed into a thriving tropical metropolis that is home to more than four million people

traddling some of the most important sea routes in the world, Dar es Salaam has established itself as the commercial capital of Tanzania. At its bustling harbour, goods arrive from all over the world while dhows deliver the morning’s catch to the popular fish market that provides a glimpse into the city’s marine past. But the coastal city has much more to offer than just the lively port. There are a wealth of restaurants and shops, while the fascinating architecture is a mixture of African, Arab, Indian and German.
There is also plenty of history to explore, from museums that provide an insight into Tanzanian tribes to the remnants of German colonial presence. Add to that botanical gardens, colourful craft markets and simple connections to nearby islands, and Dar es Salaam makes the ideal destination for a long weekend. DAY ONE To make the most of your time in Dar es Salaam, get an early start and head to the open-air village museum where you can learn all about Tanzanian tribes. You’ll see traditional dances, authentically constructed huts, while the ‘villagers’ will

demonstrate skills such as weaving, pottery and carving. Continue to discover more about the culture of the East African nation by visiting the National Museum. Here,
visitors can see a copy of the famous fossil discoveries of Zinjanthropus - otherwise known as the 'nutcracker man’ - as well as archaeological finds from the ancient Shirazi civilisation of Kilwa.

For auto aficionados, the museum also has a collection of vintage cars used first by the British colonial government and then by Tanzanian president Julius Nyerere, including a pristine Rolls Royce. Next, travel just two-anda-half kilometres north of the city to Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve. Home to beautiful beaches and secluded islands, the area is blessed with great snorkelling and diving sites, while the waters are teeming with colourful marine species.
For those feeling adventurous, there are walking trails through the dense forest that lead to the remains of a German colonial building. Alternatively, relax on the beach

Here you will discover handicrafts that are ideal for gifts, while the nearby Botanical Gardens provide a welcome escape from the warm sun and the chance to see a range of indigenous and exotic plants. Both the old State House and St. Joseph’s Cathedral are worth a visit, especially for those who appreciate architecture. But to truly make the most of your time, ensure you take the popular ferry service across to the island of Zanzibar. Home to some of the finest beaches in the world, the beautiful island is ideal for those wanting to swim, snorkel or simply while away the hours. Welcoming t he WORLD Saudi Arabia has unveiled ambitious tourism plans as it aims to attract 100 million visitors by 2030, thanks to a host of exciting new developments
O
ver the course of the last two decades, countries across the Middle East have worked tirelessly to attract visitors from all corners of the globe. Whereas once there was a stigma attached to travelling to the region, now Oman, Bahrain and especially the UAE have transformed into major destinations that attract millions of tourists each year. While cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Manama have become sprawling metropolises with towering skyscrapers and modern attractions, destinations such as Ras Al Khaimah, Salalah and Fujairah have made the most of their incredible natural landscapes that include beautiful beaches and picturesque mountain ranges. However, there is one country in the region that is viewed as the final frontier of tourism, and that is Saudi Arabia. The largest country in the Middle East and the fifth biggest in Asia, the Kingdom is the birthplace and spiritual home of Islam. Rich in historic attractions and boasting a diverse landscape, each city has its own unique character, from the religious cities of Mecca and Medina to modern Riyadh and historic Madain Saleh – known as the second Petra. There is a vast desert full of rich red dunes just waiting to be explored, while the pristine waters of the Red Sea are teeming with marine life. The breathtaking mountain scenery around Asir makes it the jewel in the Kingdom’s crown. With so much to offer, it is little wonder that Saudi Arabia has ambitious plans when it comes to tourism. Having launched a visa regime for 49 countries and relaxed its strict dress codes for female visitors, the Kingdom wants to increase international and domestic visits to 100 million a year by 2030. The government also expects to create one million tourism jobs, thanks in large to a host of megaprojects.

Creating must-visit destinations
While Saudi Arabia already boasts a number of fascinating cities and historic attractions, the government has recognised the need to construct new destinations that cater for a wider audience. Perhaps the most ambitious, and certainly the biggest, is the Red Sea Project. The site itself encompasses an archipelago of more than 90 pristine islands, miles of sweeping desert and dramatic mountain landscapes. Set to become a luxury destination that could even rival the Maldives, there is a hope that it will also encourage visitors to explore the rich cultural heritage of the Red Sea Coast. “The Red Sea Project is a year-round destination within three hours’ flying time of 250 million people and within an eight-hour flight for 80 percent of the world’s population,” said Steve Bowen, Director of PR & Communication, The Red Sea Development Company. “Whether it’s swimming through the world’s fourth largest reef system, or hiking across the dormant Harrat Lunayyir lava fields, The Red Sea Project will offer a timeless experience to the wandering traveller, and an opportunity for them to experience the destination’s unique, stunning natural environment for the first time. “Guests at The Red Sea Project will be able to stay in a variety of accommodation, both premium and luxury, in stunning inland resorts, mountain retreats and exclusive individual islands with overwater villas. “We will welcome our first guests by the end of 2022, with the first phase of the development including 14 luxury hotels offering 3,000 rooms across five islands and two inland locations. “On completion by 2030, the destination will feature around 50 hotels across 22 islands and six inland locations. It will welcome some 800,000 people per year with an annual cap of one million visitors.” Another major project currently underway is the construction of an entertainment city just 40 minutes from the capital of Riyadh. will boast resorts, parks, theme parks and sporting arenas. This will include a Six Flags amusement park. Upon completion, it is expected to be the largest tourism destination in the world, with a total area of more than 334 square kilometres. The NEOM development is another hugely ambitious project that plans to transform an area of land along the Red Sea coast into a futuristic mega-city that will be 33 times the size of New York City. Set to cost $500 billion, early suggestions are that the destination will utilise flying taxis, will be illuminated by a giant artificial moon and will have more Michelin-starred restaurants per capita than in any other city in the world.
Room for more
In total, these various mega tourism projects, implemented by the Public Investment Fund, will be spread across an area of more than 64,634 square kilometres and have a value exceeding US$810 billion. With this scale of investment, and with the aim of going from 15 million visitors a year to 100 million, Saudi Arabia has recognised the need to increase its hospitality offering. Rotana will be opening three new hotels in the Kingdom in the first quarter of this year, adding 991 rooms to the Saudi Arabian market, but this is just the start as the country will need to significantly increase its offering in the decade ahead. “Saudi Arabia and the whole market are really underserved, with 65,000 rooms across the whole country and with 35,000 of those in Mecca alone. There is a lot of activity in Saudi Arabia and it is a high focus market for us,” said Rotana CEO, Guy Hutchinson. This would take Rotana’s portfolio of hotels in the Kingdom to nine, but this number is expected to rise quickly in the years ahead, especially if Saudi Arabia continues to focus heavily on tourism and establish themselves as the dominant country in the Middle East for overseas visitors.

n the year that Expo 2020 Dubai takes centre stage in the emirate and where sustainability is one of the key themes of the mega-event, the idea of tackling climate change and helping create a greener future is high on the agenda for companies throughout the UAE. The country has developed staggeringly fast, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi becoming renowned for constructing ambitious and exciting urban developments. Entire districts have risen from the sand, leading the population to grow and tourism to explode. Of course, this has meant that there are more cars on the road and power consumption has risen. In a bid to control the effects of climate change and tackle these issues, the UAE government launched the Vision 2021 initiative. Targeting a sustainable environment and infrastructure, numerous projects were launched to help the country combat a problem that is being felt around the world. An important part of this process saw the government reaching out to architecture firms and engineering companies in a bid to discover ways to construct new districts that would use renewable energy, have low emissions and zero waste.
City of the Future
One of the first projects hoping to address the issues of climate change was Masdar City. The original mandate was clear and forward thinking, and in the middle of Abu Dhabi, the world’s first carbon-neutral, zero-waste, car-free city would be constructed.

Office of the Future
The brainchild of world-renowned architects Foster + Partners, every building would be built with sustainability in mind and water would arrive via a solar-powered desalination plant. Powered almost entirely by solar energy, residents would move around in travel pods on magnetic tracks. Hugely ambitious, the project has suffered delays but there is hope that it will still be the perfect place for architects and renewable energy engineers to try out innovative clean energy technologies. Foster + Partners have also been heavily involved in the construction of another wide-reaching project that will change the landscape of Dubai. The firm is one of a number of architecture companies who have contributed to the Expo 2020 site, that will become known as District 2020 when the world fair comes to an end in April 2021. The company has designed the Mobility Thematic Pavilion which will become a high-end office space when the expo closes. Grimshaw Architects, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture and Santiago Calatrava have also designed specific structures, while AECOM constructed the masterplan for the 2.7-square-kilometre site. All of the companies were informed that sustainability had to be at the forefront of their designs, and this has led to almost 80 percent of Expo’s built environment being retained for District 2020. The masterplan also incorporated clever techniques and technologies to combat many of the issues that arrive when constructing a new city. There are smart controls for metering and irrigation that will reduce water consumption; clean energy will be produced throughout renewable

Addressing sustainability
For the UAE, another way of countering the environmental problems that come with rapid expansion was to look at alternative energy solutions. This led to a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Power Corporation, Japan’s Marubeni Corp and China’s Jinko Solar Holding. The trio of companies came together and helped transform an unremarkable patch of Abu Dhabi desert into the largest solar power plant in the world. Opened late last year, the site is home to more than 3.2 million solar panels that create enough energy to power 90,000 homes. The plant will now play a part in battling to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change by reducing the emirate’s carbon emissions by one million metric tonnes, the equivalent of taking 200,000 cars off the road. It is also just the first of a number of solar energy facilities that are set to open throughout the UAE, taking full advantage of the year-round sunshine in the country. But it is not just the sun that will be harnessed. Another commodity that is plentiful in the region could play a major role in sustainability when it comes to housing. Dubai-based architecture firm, Ibda Design, are promoting the use of locally-sourced sea salt as a building material.

ounded by Adele and Edoardo Fendi in 1925, on Via del Plebiscito, a busy street whose location in the heart of Rome made it a main thoroughfare used by the transalpine aristocracy, the Fendi journey started with humble beginnings. Opening with a small leather goods shop and a secret fur workshop, Adele and Edoardo Fendi found success quickly. As the couple’s business grew, so did their family, and it would be their five daughters who would help feed new energy and ideas into the now famed fashion house. The girls, Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda, were nicknamed ‘the five fingers of the hand’, and it was through their foresight that the fashion house took the then young German designer, Karl Lagerfeld, under their wing in 1965. It was through his vision that the house would transform the way fur was worn, turning it into a must-have look for the fashion elite. Fendi, the only brand to have an in-house fur atelier, turned fur from a social status symbol into this fashion essential, and this continued under the direction of Adele and Edoardo’s daughters and Lagerfeld from 1965. By 1977, Lagerfeld – who remained artistic director until his passing last year – had launched Fendi’s ready-to-wear collection. Now, Adele a nd Edoardo’s g ra nddaughter, creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi, the only family member left in the

It was Silvia who was behind the now legendary Baguette bag that was created in 1997 and has earned a timeless place in the house collection. Since its launch in 2003,
it has also become part of the premium Selleria made-to-order collection, a line made entirely by hand, and one which allowed loyal patrons to customise their bags. Since its creation, there have been 1,000 plus Baguettes produced, now seen as the first ‘it bag’, also made famous by Sex and The City character, Carrie Bradshaw. The brand has, over the years, pioneered show-stopping events, including its fashion show atop the Great Wall of China in 2007. This displayed the brand’s iconic colourful mix of furs and silks, complete with belt buckles and signature Baguette bags. The event won the attention of the world and attracted a host of glamorous guests including Chinese movie star Zhang Ziyi, best known for her role in the Oscar-winning production, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Now, as the boutique evolves, still with Silvia at its helm, it continues in its essence, to accentuate and celebrate the heritage and
contemporaneity of the Rome-based brand, still as much in demand today as when it first rose to its heady heights. Its latest collaboration with pop star Nicki Minaj saw a capsule streetwear collection from the global megastar launch last year. The 127-piece collection is a mix of futurism, glamour and elegance. In her words, it is for women with curves, just like hers. In spite of the loss of its premier founders, the brand goes on undisturbed. he daughter of a renowned fashion and art historian, Saudi couture designer Honayda Serafi was always bound to follow a creative path. Her mother designed clothes in her free time, and having been under her watchful eye, by 13, Serafi had designed her first outfit. Introduced to global culture early, from poetry to music and the arts to history, her designs exude a love not only for her own heritage and that of her homeland, but the international influences she has enjoyed over time. The Saudi fashionista read Fine Art at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah before moving to Paris to study fashion at Parsons. What began as a passion project to design the likes of kaftans and gowns for friends and family while managing a busy family life, led to her setting up her own brand in 2017. Determined to work alone and make her own mark, Serafi has become the epitome of the modern woman, balancing life as a designer, artist and businesswoman while being a mother and homemaker. Furthermore, the talented designer believes that naming the brand ‘Honayda’, which means a sword’s sheath in Arabic, was the perfect way to get across her message of empowerment. “I had a vision to start a brand since I was a little girl,” Serafi told Forbes, after being named one of the top businesswomen from the Middle East. “The brand is about women empowerment and my designs are inspired by women.” Last year’s Fall/Winter collection was inspired by historymaking times in Saudi Arabia, when women were granted the right to drive, leading her to create a capsule collection named ‘Driving Force’. “This empowering message resonated among women the world over,” said Serafi. In addition, her Fall/Winter 2019 collection, ‘One Love’ was described as a “tribute to all those successful women, cultured and hard-working, who have earned their independence and learned to know their worth in marriage”. Contemporary cuts and fabrics help keep her collections appealing to all ages and cultures, and now she is dressing global figures from the world over, from Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra to Rapper Eve, who wore one of her designs to the 2019 Grammy Awards.

urther cementing its presence in Africa’s fast-growing hospitality sector, Rotana officially opened the Johari Rotana in Tanzania’s commercial city of Dar es Salaam. The new five-star property marks the company’s entrance into the East African market. Conveniently located in the MNF Square complex in Dar es Salaam’s Central Business District (CBD), the spectacular property offers 253 keys including 193 hotel rooms with an average size of over 50 square metres, suites ranging up to 150 square metres, as well as 60 fully furnished and serviced apartments. Providing fantastic views of Dar es Salaam Harbour and the city, the rooms, suites, and apartments are spread across 15 floors starting from the 13th floor of the 65,000-square-metre mixed-use project.

ver since Dubai won the right to host Expo 2020, there has been a growing sense of excitement throughout the entire country. Not only will this be the very first time that a World Expo has taken place in the region, but it is the largest event ever held in the Arab world. تعزيزاً لتواجدها في قطاع الضيافة المتسارع النمو في إفريقيا ،أعلنت روتانا ،عن االفتتاح الرسمي لفندق جوهاري روتانا في مدينة دار السالم ،العاصمة التجارية لجمهورية تنزانيا .ويمثل هذا الفندق الجديد من فئة الخمس نجوم بوابة الشركة لدخول سوق شرق إفريقيا. يضم فندق جوهاري روتانا ،الواقع ضمن مشروع ميدان MNF في المنطقة التجارية المركزية بدار السالم 253 ،وحدة فندقية تتألف من 193غرفة فاخرة يبلغ متوسط مساحة لك منها أكثر من 50متراً مربعاً ،وأجنحة تصل مساحتها إلى 150متراً مربعاً ،باإلضافة إلى 60شقة فندقية مفروشة متاكملة الخدمات. وتوفر هذه الوحدات إطالالت رائعة على ميناء دار السالم والمدينة ،وتتوزع على 15طابقاً ،وذلك بدءاً من الطابق الثالث عشر من مشروع متعدد االستخدامات تبلغ مساحته 65ألف متر مربع.

كونها ابنة لمؤرخة مشهورة في مجال األزياء والفن ،اكن من الطبيعي أن تختار مصممة األزياء السعودية هنيدة صيرفي خطاً إبداعياً .اكنت هنيدة تراقب والدتها على الدوام وهي تصمم المالبس في وقت فراغها ،وبعمر 13عاماً فقط قامت هنيدة بتصميم قطعتها األولى. وبفضل خلفيتها الثقافية التي جعلتها مطلعة على الثقافة العالمية في وقت مبكر بدءاً من الشعر وحتى الموسيقى والفنون والتاريخ ،عكست تصميماتها ارتباطها الكبير ليس بثقافة وطنها فحسب ،ولكن بالتأثيرات الثقافية العالمية التي عايشتها على مدار الوقت. درست مصممة األزياء السعودية الفنون الجميلة في جامعة الملك عبد العزيز في جدة قبل االنتقال إلى باريس لدراسة األزياء في بارسونز .ومع الوقت تحول شغفها في تصميم القفاطين والفساتين الطويلة لألصدقاء والعائلة إلى مشروع قائم بحد ذاته حيث قامت بتأسيس عالمة تجارية خاصة بها عام .2017 مثاال يحتذى به للمرأة العصرية بفضل إصرارها أصبحت صيرفي ً على العمل بمفردها وترك بصمتها الخاصة في مجال تصميم األزياء، إلى جانب تمكنها من تحقيق التوازن بين عملها كمصممة أزياء وسيدة أعمال وحياتها أكم لسبعة أطفال. 7 9-8 ,6 ,4 ,1ربيع /صيف 11, 5, 3-2 2020خريف /شتاء 10 & 7 2019هنيدة صيرفي 12جاكيت من تصميم هنيدة

ساهمت القطع واألقمشة المعاصرة في جعل مجموعاتها جذابة لجميع األعمار والثقافات
تعتمد مجموعات صيرفي ،المستوحاة من نساء أيقونات من الماضي والحاضر ،على عناصر من الشخصيات التي أثرت عليها سواء في الوقت الحالي أو من الشخصيات التاريخية القديمة ،بدءاً من شخصيات شهيرة مثل ملكة سبأ وحتى المزارع أو عامل المصنع ،حيث تقول إن الجميع يلعبون دو اًر في القصة التي يتعين على العالمة التجارية سردها ،تشبههم في الواقع. إلى جانب ذلك ،تعتقد المصممة الموهوبة أن تسمية العالمة التجارية "هنيدة" والتي تعني غمد السيف باللغة العربية ،اكنت الطريقة المثلى لتوصيل رسالة تمكين المرأة .وتقول في مقابلة سابقة مع مجلة فوربس بعد حصولها على لقب إحدى أفضل سيدات األعمال من الشرق األوسط“ :أردت تأسيس عالمة تجارية منذ أن كنت طفلة صغيرة ،واليوم ها هي العالمة التجارية تتمحور حول تمكين المرأة ،لذلك فإن تصميماتي مستوحاة من النساء بشلك عام”. استوحت هنيدة مجموعة خريف/شتاء العام الماضي من القرارات التاريخية األخيرة التي اتخذت في المملكة العربية السعودية ،عندما ُمنحت النساء حق القيادة ،حيث صممت مجموعة صغيرة أطلقت عليها اسم “القوة الدافعة” .وحولها تقول“ :القت هذه الرسالة التمكينية صدى واسعاً لدى النساء في جميع أنحاء العالم” .باإلضافة إلى ذلك ،وصفت مجموعتها لخريف وشتاء 2019والتي أطلقت عليها اسم “حب واحد” بأنها بمثابة تكريم لجميع النساء الناجحات والمثقفات والعامالت الدؤوبات ،الالتي حصلن على استقاللهن وتعلمن معرفة قيمتهن الحقيقية في الحياة”. ساهمت القطع واألقمشة المعاصرة في جعل مجموعاتها تزين تصاميمها أجساد جذابة لجميع األعمار والثقافات ،واآلن ّ

تأسست دار األزياء الشهيرة على يد أديل وإدواردو فندي عام ،1925في فيا دل بليبيسيتو بقلب روما ،وهو شارع مفعم بالحياة وتعرفه الطبقة األرستقراطية التي تمر به وهي في طريقها إلى منتجعات جبال األلب .واكنت بدايات فندي متواضعة .البداية بمتجر صغير للمنتجات الجلدية ،ومشغل لصنع معاطف الفراء ،ولكن أديل وإدواردو عرفا طريق النجاح سريعاً .ازدهرت األعمال ،وكذلك ازدهرت األسرة ،وسيكون لبناتهما الخمس الفضل في بث روح جديدة في الدار. استعانت الشقيقات الخمس ،باوال ،آنا، فراناك ،اكرال ،وألدا في عام 1965بخدمات المصمم االلماني الشاب اكرل الغرفيلد ،الذي أعاد تصميم الفراء الذي اكنت تصنعه الدار ومنحه أسلوب التصميم الذي ميز الدار بعد ذلك ،وأكسبه السمات التي جعلته مطلباً لسيدات المجتمع المخملي .ولقد حولت فندي ،العالمة التجارية الوحيدة التي تمتلك مشغال داخلياً للفراء ،الفراء من رمز للماكنة ً االجتماعية إلى قطعة موضة أساسية ،واستمر هذا النهج تحت إشراف بنات أديل وإدواردو ومعهن الغرفيلد .وبحلول عام ،1977أطلق الغرفيلد؛ الذي ظل المدير الفني للدار حتى وفاته في فبراير الماضي ،مجموعة فندي للمالبس الجاهزة. اليوم ،تمثل سيلفيا فنتوريني فندي، حفيدة أديل وإدواردو ومديرة اإلبداع والفرد الوحيد المتبقي من العائلة في الدار ،تمثل الجيل الثالث من األسرة ،وهي المسؤولة عن منتجات االكسسوار والمالبس الرجالية ومالبس “عمل كارل مع فندي ألربعة وخمسين ً عاما ،لذلك أرى أن من غير الطبيعي أن نسمي كل هذه الفترة عصر كارل ً جميعا هنا” الغرفيلد .وهذا رأينا األطفال .وأطلقت مجموعتها النسائية األولى في معرض خريف 2019في ميالنو بنجاح كبير ،مع عارضات أزياء مثل جيجي وبيال حديد وكيندال جينر. ويمثل عام 1997مرحلة أخرى في إشعاع ّ فندي عالمياً ،بفضل حقائب اليد التي صممتها سيلفيا ،واكنت نقلة نوعية بالنسبة للدار .قدمت سيلفيا حقيبة الباغيت األسطورية في ذلك العام ،وسرعان ما صارت الحقيبة قطعة أساسية في أي منزل .ومنذ إطالقها في عام ،2003
أصبحت أيضاً جزءاً من مجموعة “سيلريا” المميزة التي تصنع حسب الطلب يدوياً ،وهو ما سمح للعميالت بالحصول على حقائبهن بالتصميم الذي يرغبن فيه .وأنتجت أكثر من ألف حقيبة، شهرة في وقد أكسبتها النجمة اكري برادشو ً فيلمها “الجنس والمدينة”. ظلت العالمة التجارية محط األنظار على مر السنين ،بما في ذلك العرض الذي اقامته فوق سور الصين العظيم عام .2007واكن العرض فرصة لتقديم ما اشتهرت به فندي من تشكيلة قطع الفراء والحرير مع أبازيم الحزام وحقائب الباغيت المميزة .وحاز هذا الحدث على اهتمام العالم وجذب مجموعة من الضيوف الرائعين بمن فيهم النجمة السينمائية الصينية تشانغ زيي ،المعروفة بدورها في فيلم “النمر الرابض والتنين الخفي” الحائز على جائزة األوساكر. واليوم ،ومع تطور العالمة بإدارة قديرة من سيلفيا ،فإنها تستمر في االلتزام بجوهرها وإبراز تراث فندي التي بقيت في روما ،وال يزال
الطلب عليها اليوم كما اكن عند انطالقتها متفاعال مع نجمات األولى .ويستمر االسم ً الموضة العالمية ،وأحدث تعاون اكن مع نجمة البوب نيكي ميناج التي أطلقت مجموعتها في أكتوبر. تمزج المجموعة المكونة من 127قطعة بين تصاميم مستقبلية وساحرة وأنيقة .هي للسيدات ذات األنوثة البارزة ،على حد تعبيرها. وعلى الرغم من غياب مؤسسيها الرئيسيين ،إال أن العالمة التجارية مستمرة بثبات .لقد ولدت لتبقى في المقدمة .وسواء أاكن ذلك من خالل األزياء الراقية أو مجموعاتها من المالبس الحياتية ،فإنها ناجحة دوماً .تقول سيلفيا إن تأثير الغرفيلد متأصل في العالمة التجارية إلى األبد .وقالت في مقابلة أجريت معها في وقت سابق من هذا العام“ :عمل اكرل مع فندي ألربعة وخمسين عاماً ،لذلك أرى أن من غير الطبيعي أن نسمي لك هذه الفترة عصر اكرل الغرفيلد .وهذا رأينا جميعاً هنا”.

مسجد الوحي
المسجد من تصميم شركة X-Architectsللهندسة المعمارية ومقرها اإلمارات ،وهو عبارة عن تصميم مبتكر يلبي جوانب دينية ومجتمعية وثقافية ،وسوف يشيد ليكون أيقونة تواصل وتفاعل، مهما اختلفت األديان .ورغم تصميمه العصري ،إال أنه يستلهم اصيال في الثقافة اإلسالمية ،حيث يجسد ً هذه المرة رمزاً طبيعياً التصميم لحظة نزول الوحي .ويشلك هذا المفهوم رحلة روحية تأخذ المتعبدين من فوضى حياتهم اليومية إلى جو من السكينة. الشلك الكتلي مستوحى من جبل النور ،الجبل الذي يحتوي على الكهف الذي نزل فيه الوحي على النبي محمد صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم .كما أن الواجهة الحلزونية المتدرجة التي تمأل الداخل بضياء ناعم منتشر متأثرة بعمارة المآذن اإلسالمية.
متحف المستقبل – دبي

في العام الماضي ،تأكد أن هذا المتحف مذهل التصميم ينفذ على النحو المخطط له ،ليتم االنتهاء منه في غضون أربع سنوات، خاصة بعد النجاح الذي يحققه متحف اللوفر أبو ظبي .ويقام متحف جوجنهايم ،الذي صممه فرانك جيري ،على مساحة 320 ألف قدم مربع ويضم معارض وقاعات بحثية ومختبراً. يعد البناء “تجربة في تصميم متحف مبتكر يليق بالقرن الحادي والعشرين” ،وسيكون مختلفاً تماماً عن أي بناء آخر في جميع أنحاء العالم ،فتصميمه يجعل منه ما يشبه حاجز أمواج صناعي يحمي منطقة الشاطئ الشمالية البكر في جزيرة السعديات. وعلى الرغم من أن النظرة األولى إليه تؤكد أصالة التصميم، إال أنه تصميم يحمل الكثير من اإلشارات إلى عمارة الشرق األوسط التقليدية .فهو يشتمل على أفنية مغطاة وأبراج رياح ،سيتم استغاللها في تبريد الهيالك المعرضة ألشعة الشمس الحارقة في الصحراء ،في تقليد معماري تعود أصوله إلى آالف سنين مضت .وستجد في أنحاء عدة من اإلمارات العربية المتحدة استخدامات متنوعة ألبراج الرياح هذه ،والتي تؤدي ذات الوظيفة التي صممت ألجلها في عمارة هذا المتحف.

“يعد برج خور دبي نتاج رؤية متميزة وابتكار مبدع استلهم المآذن اإلسالمية التي تنتشر في جميع بلدان المنطقة بطرز معمارية متنوعة” متحف المستقبل – دبي
يعتبر تصميم هذا المتحف الفريد أحد أروع نماذج التصميم ابتاكراً على اإلطالق في دولة اإلمارات العربية المتحدة ،وقد تطلب تنفيذه باقة من اإلبداعات الهندسية .فقد استخدمت اآلالت التي يتم التحكم فيها عن طريق الكمبيوتر لقطع أكثر من ألف قالب يدعم منظومة األلياف الزجاجية والفوالذ في الواجهة ،بينما استخدمت أدوات نمذجة متطورة لتخطيط الهيلك المنحني الفريد الذي يتكون من آالف المثلثات الفوالذية المتشابكة. سوف يستمد المتحف الطاقة من محطة طاقة شمسية ،وسيوفر خدمة شحن السيارة الكهربائية للزوار والموظفين .ومع ذلك ،فقد استلهم تصميم المتحف وجوانبه الوظيفية مستقبلية الطابع من نماذج تاريخية .فالخط العربي الذي يغطي البناء إشارة إلى العمارة اإلسالمية التي كثيراً ما نجد فيها آيات القرآن الكريم منقوشة على جدران مساجدها. وأعلنت شركة الهندسة المعمارية “كيال ديزاين” أن تصميم المبنى يراعي فلسفة فنغ شوي .ويرجع تاريخ هذه الممارسة الفلسفية إلى أكثر من ستة آالف عام ،حيث يمثل الشلك الدائري في فنغ شوي حقول األرض الخصبة والخيال غير المحدود.

صمم برج خور دبي ليكون رمزاً عالمياً جديداً للقرن الحادي والعشرين، حيث يشمخ من قلب خور دبي مالمساً أعالي السحب ليكون أعلى ناطحة سحاب في العالم .يرتفع البرج مسافة 828متراً ،وسيضم فضال عن منصات مشاهدة تضم أعلى الحدائق المعلقة في العالم، ً اإلطاللة البانورامية على خور دبي والمدينة العصرية الممتدة في األفق .يتمتع البرج بإطاللة خالبة على محمية رأس الخور للحياة البرية ويتصل مباشرة بدبي سكوير ،إحدى أهم الوجهات التجارية العالمية. صمم المهندس المعماري اإلسباني الشهير بمشاريعه ذات الطابع المستقبلي المعاصر ،سانتياغو اكالترافا ،هذا البناء متحدياً قوانين الجاذبية واستوحي تصميمه من زهرة الزنبق واللمسات الشرقية التقليدية للمآذن العربية ،بتصميمها الذي استخدم ألول مرة في القرن التاسع والذي ينتشر اليوم في جميع أنحاء العالم. يعد برج خور دبي نتاج رؤية متميزة وابتاكر مبدع استلهم المآذن اإلسالمية التي تنتشر في جميع بلدان المنطقة بطرز معمارية متنوعة ،ومن أهمها تلك التي في جامع زايد الكبير .سيشلك البرج إضافة فريدة ألفق مدينة دبي ويرتقي بماكنة المدينة ضمن مدن المستقبل العصرية الرائدة.

الجبال
“تتميز المملكة بثراء المعالم السياحية التاريخية وتنوع مناظرها الطبيعية ذات الطابع الفريد ،وخاصة مكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة والرياض” مركز المدينة الجوي
المائية ،على مساحة تتجاوز 334كم مربع .ويعد مشروع “نيوم” أحد أبرز المشاريع الطموحة في رؤية المملكة ،2030 والتي تخطط المملكة لتنفيذه بقيمة تقدر بخمسمائة مليار دوالر .ويبلغ حجم المشروع 33ضعف حجم مدينة نيويورك ،أكبر المدن في العالم ،ويعتمد بأكمله على الطاقة المتجددة ،ومن المقرر االنتهاء من تنفيذه بحلول العام .2025وينطوي “نيوم” على عدة نماذج لتطبيقات التكنولوجيا المتقدمة للغاية؛ ومنها مشروع للمطر االصطناعي ومجسم ضخم شبيه بالقمر يستخدم إلنارة أرجاء المنطقة ،عالوة على عدد كبير من المطاعم العالمية المرموقة.

يتولى صندوق االستثمارات العامة تنفيذ جميع هذه المشاريع السياحية الهائلة ،والتي تقام على مساحة تتجاوز 64,634كم مربع بقيمة تربو على 810مليار دوالر .وبحجم استثمار على هذا النحو ،وبهدف زيادة عدد السياح من 15 مليون سائح إلى 100مليون سائح ،صارت المملكة على دراية بمستهدفات تعزيز صناعة السياحة والضيافة بها. ومن هذا المنطلق ،ستفتتح روتانا ثالثة فنادق جديدة في المملكة خالل الربع األول من هذا العام ،لتسهم بأكثر من 991غرفة فندقية في السوق السعودية ،وهي مجرد بداية لمزيد من المشاريع الفندقية بالمملكة خالل العقد المقبل .يقول غاي هاتشينسون ،الرئيس التنفيذي في روتانا: “سوق المملكة وأسواق المنطقة ال تزال بحاجة إلى المزيد، فاليوم ال توجد سوى 65ألف غرفة فندقية في جميع أنحاء المملكة ،منها 35ألفاً في مكة المكرمة وحدها .ونحن نركز بدرجة كبيرة على نمو السوق السعودية في هذا الصدد”. مع إتمام هذه المشاريع ،تمتلك روتانا تسعة فنادق في المملكة ،ولكنه رقم سرعان ما سيتنامى خالل األعوام المقبلة .فالمملكة تستهدف تحقيق منجزات ضخمة في قطاع السياحة لتحوز ماكنة مرموقة وحضوراً قوياً في هذه الصناعة بمنطقة الشرق األوسط.

تمتلك المملكة العربية السعودية مجموعة رائعة من المدن ومناطق الجذب التاريخية ،ولكن الحكومة أدركت الحاجة إلى تشييد وجهات سياحية تجتذب شرائح سياحية متنوعة .وربما اكن أكبر تلك المشاريع وأكثرها طموحاً هو مشروع تطوير البحر األحمر .يقع مشروع البحر األحمر على الساحل الغربي أرخبيل يتكون من أكثر من 90جزيرة ،مفتوح للمملكة ،ويضم ً على مشهد صحراوي وجبلي .يقول ستيف بوين ،مدير العالقات العامة واالتصال المؤسسي في شركة تطوير البحر األحمر“ :يعد المشروع وجهة سياحية مناسبة طيلة العام وال تبعد سوى ثالث ساعات بالطائرة من قرابة 250مليون سائح محتمل في المنطقة”. وتابع يقول“ :سيتمكن ضيوف مشروع البحر األحمر من اإلقامة في مجموعة متنوعة من المنشآت الفندقية الراقية ،والمنتجعات الخالبة ،وكذلك في الجبال والجزر التي تحتضن فيلل فوق الماء .ونستعد للترحيب باألفواج السياحية األولى مع نهاية العام ،2022حيث تشتمل المرحلة األولى على افتتاح 14فندقاً تضم ثالثة آالف غرفة في خمس جزر وموقعين في الساحل .وسوف نطور 50فندقاً على 22جزيرة ،باإلضافة إلى 6منتجعات في المناطق الجبلية والصحراوية بحلول عام .2030عندئذ ،سنتمكن من استقبال 800ألف سائح سنوياً وبحد أقصى مليون سائح”. وفي قلب المملكة فرصة جديدة لمزيد من التجارب السياحية المثيرة .فمن المخطط أن يكون مشروع القدية، الذي ال يبعد سوى 40دقيقة عن العاصمة الرياض ،وجهة مفضلة ومعلماً بارزاً لتلبية االحتياجات الترفيهية واالجتماعية والثقافية للسياح وللجيل الحالي واألجيال القادمة من السعوديين .سيستمتع الزوار بعشرات المتنزهات ومدن المالهي ،وأبرزها مدينة “ 6فالجز” الترفيهية ،والمتنزهات

هذا المسجد المذهل في جماله ،البهي في للعمانيين من السلطان قابوس عمارته ،هدية ُ بن سعيد آل سعيد ،سلطان ُعمان ،بمناسبة مرور ثالثين عاماً على توليه حكم البالدُ .بني المسجد من 300ألف طن من الحجر الرملي الهندي ،ويستوعب 20ألفاً من المصلين ،و 750سيدة مصلية في مصلى خاص. ويمكن للسياح زيارة المسجد ولكن ُيطلب منهم ارتداء مالبس محتشمة وتغطية الذراعين والساقين وتجنب ارتداء المالبس الضيقة .وهناك ،يمكن معاينة واحدة من أروع قطع السجاد العجمي المصنوع يدوياً في العالم ،والتي تغطى مساحة 4200متر مربع، وقد استغرقت 600سيدة أربع سنوات ألجل صنعها.

مرحباً وسهال بكم في عام جديد مع روتانا .ونحن نحتفل ببداية عام ،2020نتطلع إلى األشهر القليلة أهال ً ً المقبلة التي تستضيف خاللها اإلمارات العربية المتحدة باقة من الفعاليات التي ال تنسى .تتنوع هذه النشاطات بحيث تناسب جميع األعمار واالهتمامات ،بدءاً من األنشطة الرياضية رفيعة المستوى ومهرجانات المأكوالت وحتى المعارض الفنية والثقافية الدولية. وخالل األشهر المقبلة ،سترحب العاصمة اإلماراتية أبوظبي بأفضل العبي الجولف في العالم وذلك خالل بطولة أبوظبي للجولف التي تقام في يناير ،بينما تحتل بطولة سوق دبي الحرة للتنس خالل فبراير مركز الصدارة عندما تتنافس نخبة العبي العالم للحصول على اللقب .وفي مارس ،يقام الحدث االجتماعي التقليدي رفيع المستوى ،بطولة أكس دبي العالمية ،والتي تعد فرصة لمشاهدة الخيول األصيلة تتنافس لنيل جوائز مذهلة. وإلى جانب تلك الباقة من الفعاليات الرياضة العالمية ،يعود معرض آرت دبي في نسخته الرابعة عشرة ،ويستقبل متحف اللوفر أبوظبي معرضاً جديداً يركز على ثقافة الفروسية العريقة ،بينما يعرض مهرجان دبي للمأكوالت ما تحتضنه اإلمارة من مطابخ عالمية متنوعة. وبإإلضافة إلى مهرجان دبي للمأكوالت ،هناك العديد من الفرص الرائعة التي يمكن للمرء من خاللها االستمتاع بالمأكوالت الشهية المنتشرة في لك ماكن في اإلمارات ،حيث رسخت الدولة ماكنتها كوجهة رئيسية للذواقة .وبدورنا نفخر في روتانا بأن نكون من المساهمين في ذلك من خالل تشكيلة المطاعم الرائعة التي يقدم فيها طهاتنا المبدعون أطباقاً مستوحاة من أفضل ما تقدمه المطابخ العالمية. وفي الوقت الذي تعج فيه اإلمارات العربية المتحدة بالنشاطات والفعاليات التي ال حصر لها ،إال أن بداية العام تمثل وقتاً رائعاً للسفر كذلك واستكشاف أماكن أخرى في المنطقة ،حيث يتيح الطقس الرائع في هذا الوقت من العام سهولة االستكشاف والتجول .وتعد العاصمة األردنية عمان ،التي ّ سنفتتح فيها قريباً فندقاً جديداً لروتانا في وقت الحق من هذا العام ،مدينة رائعة تستمد روعتها من تناقضاتها ،فترى األبراج الحديثة في أحضان آثار الحضارات القديمة .ويعد المسرح الروماني الذي تم ترميمه مؤخراً من المعالم السياحية التي ال بد من زيارتها ،ويفضل أن يكون ذلك في الصباح الباكر تفادياً للزحام حتى يتسنى لكم التقاط الصور الجميلة بينما ال تزال أشعة الشمس بكراً. ختاماً ،نجدد الشكر الحار لكم ،ضيوفنا األعزاء ،لما تقدمونه من دعم مستمر لنا ،ونتطلع إلى الترحيب بكم في فنادقنا المنتشرة في جميع دول المنطقة وخارجها أيضاً .وأملنا أن ينال هذا العدد الجديد إعجابكم على مدى األشهر القليلة المقبلة. وشكراً، غاي هاتشينسون الرئيس التنفيذي
