YOUR PROGRAM Our four-year Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree begins with making sure that you develop a strong foundation in the basics of business – management, economics, and math. In your first year, you’ll take introductory courses in each of those areas to prepare you for advanced study in one of our specialist programs: Accounting, Finance and Economics, or Management. You will select an area of specialization at the beginning of second year, and most of your business courses in years two through four will focus on building expertise in your chosen area. Throughout your studies, you’ll complement your business education with elective courses from the University of Toronto’s famed Faculty of Arts and Science, meaning you can pursue your interests in everything from literature to psychology to computer science and beyond, and study with some of the world’s top teachers and experts in their fields. At Rotman Commerce, your degree prepares you for more than just business. It’s a journey through which you can chart your own course to success.

MANAGEMENT

Students specializing in Accounting can focus on Public Accounting or Financial Reporting and Control, which feature subjects such as corporate taxation, audit, financial statement analysis, and valuation. Completion of our Public Accounting stream satisfies the CPA’s educational prerequisite for direct entry to its Professional Education Program (PEP), which means that your Rotman Commerce BCom in public accounting can get you a jump start on your professional designation. When combined with the Rotman School of Management’s twelve-week Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (GDipPA), your degree enables you to begin your career in accounting with the first four modules of the CPA PEP completed.

The Finance and Economics specialist prepares students for careers in finance and capital markets through a suite of classes offered through U of T’s top-ranked economics department and the Rotman School’s renowned finance faculty. Rotman Commerce is a Partner Program of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analysts) Institute, a designation that recognizes that the education in the Finance and Economics specialist is closely related to the body of knowledge required of CFAs worldwide.

The Management specialist is our most flexible program of study and can allow you the freedom to explore a variety of different aspects of business. Students in the Management specialist can choose to concentrate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, International Business, Leadership in Organizations, Marketing, or Strategy. If you’re thinking of completing a minor or a major in another discipline, consider specializing in management, as it offers a flexible complement to many other areas of interest.
