“I looked up into the blackness of the lunar sky and directly over my head was the blue and white jewel of earth!” 325. Charlie Duke Autograph Letter Signed. ALS signed

“Charlie Duke, Apollo 16,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal Apollo 16 letterhead, no date. Letter to a fan, in full: “I don’t have a title for this letter, but if I did it would be something like ‘The Chronicle of a Moonwalker.’ In April, 1972, my life changed forever as I found myself riding Wernher von Braun’s magnificent rocket in the heavens aboard Apollo 16, mankind’s fifth successful lunar landing mission. On April 20th, John Young and I successfully landed our lunar module ‘Orion’ on the moon’s dusty soil! Several hours later, I emerged to become only the 10th human being in history to ever stand on another world! It was a fantastic feeling. We spent the next three days living on the moon, and exploring the ancient Descartes Highlands in our lunar rover! Though the moon is totally lifeless, its beauty was incredible! It was mostly shades of gray in color. The entire surface was covered with lunar dust that was as fine as powder. I looked up into the blackness of the lunar sky and directly over my head was the blue and white jewel of earth! I was humbled as I pondered the thought that I was to be one of only twelve human beings to ever experience this fantastic adventure! The epic voyages of Apollo marked a turning point in human history when mankind first lifted off from our earthly island home and began our long journey to the stars! From this short epistle, I hope you can capture the drama of my adventure.” In fine condition. Starting Bid $200
