INTRODUZIONI INTRODUCTIONS

Vent’anni sono un traguardo importante, impegnativo. Ci costringe a guardare dietro di noi, a misurare il percorso fatto fino a qui. Religion Today ne ha fatto uno lunghissimo: oggi questo appuntamento con il cinema religioso è conosciuto e apprezzato nel mondo, conta molti estimatori e molti alleati, fa viaggiare le pellicole ma anche le persone e le idee. Religion Today Filmfestival ci aiuta un po’ anche a consolidare l’immagine del Trentino come di una terra che ha legato indubbiamente le sue sorti ad una delle vicende più importanti della storia spirituale dell’Occidente – il grande Concilio detto appunto Tridentino – ma che, a partire da quelle basi, ha saputo rinnovarsi, riservando un’attenzione crescente ai temi del dialogo interreligioso, dell’accoglienza, della solidarietà e della pace. Vent’anni fa alcune di queste problematiche erano già nell’aria, anche se non avevano forse ancora raggiunto piena maturazione: pensiamo alle migrazioni, e specularmente al tema della multiculturalità, un tema delicato e sensibile, eppure non eludibile. Altre dovevano ancora manifestarsi con tutta la forza e persino la violenza con cui invece sono poi “esplose”: non vi era stato ancora il giro di boa dell’11 settembre 2001, l’espressione scontro di civiltà non faceva ancora parte del nostro vocabolario, il terrorismo era un fenomeno che sembrava appartenere ormai perlopiù al passato dell’Europa, alla difficile stagione dei conflitti ideologici. Twenty years is an important and hardearned achievement that forces us to look around us, to take stock of the road travelled so far. Religion Today has come a long way: today this appointment with religious-themed cinema is renowned and appreciated all over the world. It can count on a wealth of fans and supporters and not only do the films travel but also people and the ideas they bring with them. The Religion Today Film Festival also helps us to consolidate the image of Trentino as a region whose destiny is inextricably linked to one of the most important events of western spiritual significance – the great Council of Christianity known as the Council of Trent – a region which, since that historic event, has managed to keep in step with the times, focussing increasing attention on the theme of interreligious dialogue, migration of peoples, solidarity and peace. Twenty years ago some of these problems were already in the air, even if they had not perhaps peaked thinking of migration and parallely the theme of multiculturality, a delicate, highly sensitive and unavoidable theme. Others instead were yet to arise, ‘exploding’ with force and even violence: the turning point marked by 11 September 2001 was yet to come, that affront to civilization was not part of our vocabulary, terrorism was a phenomenon which seemed to be more or less confined to the past in Europe, to difficult periods of ideological conflict. This game-changing event did not escape anyone’s notice. Each 2

Non c’è chi non avverta, oggi, la necessità di introdurre nelle nostre società robusti anticorpi, capaci di sconfiggere i germi del radicalismo, di qualsivoglia matrice, ma anche del razzismo e del populismo, che minano le comunità dall’interno, che fomentano la discordia anziché promuovere il dialogo. Ben venga dunque una manifestazione come Religion Today, che ha sempre dato spazio a tutte le idee e a tutte le religioni, filtrandole attraverso uno dei medium artistici più interessanti fra quelli prodotti dalla modernità e finanche dall’innovazione tecnologica, il cinema, il video. Ben venga anche un momento di confronto come quello organizzato assieme alla Catalogna, che va al di là dell’esperienza artistica in sé, per abbracciare due temi al Trentino particolarmente cari: l’autonomia e la governance delle dinamiche religiose e sociali. Parlare di autogoverno di società che si fanno via via sempre più complesse e variegate mi pare un modo originale e coraggioso di puntare i riflettori sulla specialità di esperienze come quella trentina e, appunto catalana, nel quadro di un’Europa che vogliamo al tempo stesso unita e plurale, in grado di valorizzare il pluralismo e le diversità pur in un contesto di valori e di aspirazioni comuni. Grazie dunque ai promotori del Religion Today Filmfestival e tanti auguri per un buon proseguimento del cammino.

and every one of us today feels the need to introduce more robust measures like ‘antibodies’ to cure the ills in our society, measures capable of defeating the seeds of any form of radicalisation, also racism and populism which threaten our communities from within, inciting conflict instead of promoting dialogue. Religion Today is therefore a very welcome event, one which has always dedicated space to all ideas and all religions, filtering them through one of the most interesting artistic media to come out of the modern age and technological innovation, namely cinema and video. Let there be a moment of sharing like that organized with Catalonia, which goes beyond the artistic experience per se, to embrace two themes which are particularly dear to Trentino: autonomy and governance of religious and social dynamics. Speaking of selfgovernment in societies which are increasingly more complex and varied seems like an original and courageous way of highlighting the uniqueness of experiences like Trentino and Catalonia, in a European framework which ideally should be both united and multifaceted, capable of celebrating pluralism and diversity in a context of common values and aspirations. Thanks then to the promoters of the Religion Today Film Festival and all the best for the next stage of your journey. Onwards and upwards.

VENTI ANNI CHE HANNO CAMBIATO IL MONDO TWENTY YEARS WHICH CHANGED THE WORLD L’11 settembre, le dimissioni di un papa, le novità di Francesco, l’era social e la “online religion”, i movimenti di popoli e i processi di diaspora, la crescente pluralità religiosa come parte della nuova “super-diversità”: sono solo alcuni dei fatti e dei processi che negli ultimi decenni hanno radicalmente rinnovato il rapporto tra religioni e società, trovando eco e talvolta impulso nel mondo del cinema, esso pure oggetto di epocali trasformazioni. Il 20° compleanno di Religion Today diventa così, necessariamente, l’occasione per ripercorrere i “venti anni che hanno cambiato il mondo” e rivoluzionato le nostre vite nel contesto della post-secolarizzazione e del cosiddetto “ritorno del sacro”; e per considerare, al contempo, la ricchez-

11th September, the resignation of one pope followed by the arrival of Francis, the advent of social networks and “online religion”, the movements of peoples and mass exoduses, growing religious variety as part of a new “super-diversity”: these are just some of the many facts and processes which over recent decades have radically changed the relationship between religions and society, echoed and stimulated by the world of cinema, which has undergone epic transformation itself. The 20th birthday of Religion Today thus necessarily becomes the occasion to recall the “twenty years that changed the world” and revolutionized our lives in the context of post-secularization and the so-called “return to holiness”; and at the same time to consider the many ways different countries around 5

za delle soluzioni con cui le diverse cinematografie del mondo hanno interpretato e interpretano queste dinamiche, nel quadro della riflessione, da sempre al cuore del Festival, sul religioso come oggetto di espressione (ma anche di industria e di intrattenimento) attraverso lo specifico di un medium contemporaneo qual è quello cinematografico. Fin dalle origini, d’altra parte, Religion Today si è posto anche un obiettivo più militante: esplorare il potenziale del cinema per il dialogo interreligioso, a partire dalla constatazione, confermata nel tempo, che la settima arte, con le sue intrinseche caratteristiche, può fare molto per intaccare i cliché, gli stereotipi, le banalizzazioni, e contribuire ad una migliore conoscenza delle diverse spiritualità, culture, mentalità, concezioni del mondo. È su questo doppio binario che si è sviluppata, non senza svolte, ripensamenti, momenti di crisi e generosi slanci, la vicenda del festival trentino, nato alla fine del millennio, in collegamento con la storica chiamata della “città del Concilio” a superare vecchie e nuove lacerazioni, nel rispetto e nell’accoglienza dell’altro, e con lo sguardo programmaticamente rivolto all’“oggi”, che non a caso rimane parte integrante del nome del progetto. Anche nel mondo del cinema, in quegli anni, si faceva strada la percezione del generale risveglio religioso di un mondo un po’ libero un po’ orfano delle ideologie novecentesche.

the world have interpreted and continue to interpret these dynamics through cinema, in a framework of reflection, which has always been at the heart of the Festival, on worship as the object of expression (but also in terms of industry and entertainment) through the specific and contemporary medium of cinematography. Ever since its origins Religion Today has had a more radical objective: to explore the potential of cinema for interreligious dialogue starting from the observation, borne out by time that the seventh art, with its intrinsic characteristics, can do a lot to undermine clichés, stereotypes and trivialization, contributing instead to a better understanding of different spiritualities, cultures, mentalities, and ideas of the world. Two paths have developed which along the way have experienced Uturns, second thoughts, moments of crisis and sudden surges in enthusiasm; the fortunes of the Trentino Festival launched at the end of the millennium, connected to the historical calling of the “city of the Council” ready to heal old and new wounds, with a welcoming spirit of respect towards one another and with a programmatic look towards the “here and now”. Not by chance did this become an integral part of the name of the original project. Over the years the world of cinema has also witnessed the perception of a general religious reawakening in a world which is both somewhat free and also an orphan of twentieth century ideologies. The initial enthusiasm of the first 6

Il nuovo scenario internazionale rilancia drammaticamente l’urgenza del dialogo interreligioso come unica via d’uscita dalla deriva dello “scontro di civiltà”. Parallelamente, le tematiche religiose, a lungo confinate in contesti minori o “di nicchia”, conquistano i grandi festival, trovando sempre più spesso spazio anche in opere mainstream. Per Religion Today è l’inizio di una nuova fase, sintetizzata nella metafora del “viaggio nelle differenze”, alla ricerca di vie e strumenti per orientarsi nella complessità dei fenomeni religiosi e delle loro rappresentazioni, senza nascondere criticità e tensioni, allargando lo sguardo al rinnovato dibattito sulla laicità. Un ponte verso un futuro che nuovamente ci chiama a difendere la possibilità della pace.

editions, which above all tried to show the unity between faiths and fundamental shared common values between different religious traditions all “under the same sky”, was followed by the momentous trauma of 11th September. The new international scene dramatically relaunched the urgent need for interreligious dialogue as the only way to navigate the dangerous aftermath of that “clash of civilizations”. At the same time, religious themes which had previously been confined to the sidelines and given lesser importance, suddenly dominated the well-known festivals, finding more space dedicated to them in mainstream cinema works. For Religion Today this is the start of a new phase, which can be summed up by the metaphor “exploring the differences”, searching for new ways and means to discover the complexity of religious phenomena and all their representations, without shying away from criticisms and tensions, widening the panorama to a debate on secularism. A bridge leading towards a future which again invites us to defend the possibility of peace.

È questo l’intento del 20° Religion Today Filmfestival, in programma in Trentino tra il 13 e il 22 ottobre, con anticipazioni e appendici che estendono anche fuori provincia la riflessione sulle sfide di ieri e di domani.

Celebrating this significant anniversary while highlighting the complexity of the present day is the aim of the 20th Religion Today Film Festival taking place in Trentino from 13th to 22nd October, with previews and post-festival events extending into other regions inviting the public to reflect on the challenges of the past and the future.

Il concorso Attraverso 41 film da 28 paesi del mondo, il concorso cinematografico propone un viaggio più che mai articolato nella diversità di culti, credenze, culture, visioni del mondo, ma anche di stili, linguaggi, codici espressivi, tutti commentati in sala, in dialogo con gli autori e con un gruppo interdisciplinare di esperti coinvolti anche grazie alla rete sempre più fitta delle collaborazioni.

The competition Through the 41 films from 28 countries around the world, the cinema competition proposes a varied journey in terms of different religions, beliefs, cultures, visions of the world, but also in terms of styles, languages, expression, all presented in the theatre, in dialogue with the filmmakers and an interdisciplinary group of experts taking part thanks to the ever growing network of collaborations.

Gli sguardi In parallelo si sviluppa il calendario delle tavole rotonde e degli incontri, con un appuntamento fisso nel preserale, pensato per ripercorrere da diverse angolature le grandi trasformazioni che in questi venti anni si sono rispecchiate nell’esperienza stessa di Religion Today. Alle voci dei fondatori del Festival si alternano dunque quelle di importanti protagonisti delle prime edizioni, a cominciare dal grande cineasta polacco Krzysztof Zanussi. Viewpoints Alongside the competition there will be a calendar of round tables and meetings, with a fixed appointment in the early evening, in order to review from different viewpoints the great transformations which have taken place over the past twenty years and how they are reflected in the experience of Religion Today. Peace, rights, equality Religion Today 2017 has consistently decided to reexamine the last twenty years under the profile of the importance of audiovisual language as a motor of thought and change. The consolidated collaboration with the Trentino Forum for peace and human rights, in particular, provides a starting point for an up-to-date evaluation of cinema, coming together and sharing. Also the debate on religions and gender roles has always been dear to the Festival, receiving new attention thanks to a collaboration with the Fondazione Bruno Kessler and Centro per la Cooperazione Internazionale on the project “Dalla parte di Eva” (From Eve’s point of view).

Pace, diritti, parità Coerentemente, Religion Today 2017 si propone di riesaminare gli ultimi venti anni sotto il profilo dell’importanza del linguaggio audiovisivo come motore di pensiero e di cambiamento. La consolidata collaborazione con il Forum Trentino per la pace e i diritti umani, in particolare, fornisce lo spunto per un aggiornato bilancio su cinema, incontro e convivenza. Anche il discorso sulle religioni e le relazioni di genere, da sempre caro al Festival, riceve nuova attenzione grazie alla collaborazione con la Fondazione Bruno Kessler e il Centro per la Cooperazione Internazionale sul progetto “Dalla parte di Eva”. 11

Il mondo in movimento Fondamentale si conferma inoltre il rapporto con Cinformi, il Centro informativo per l’immigrazione della Provincia autonoma di Trento, e con la vasta rete di realtà del mondo della cultura e del sociale che a ridosso del Festival organizzano la Settimana dell’Accoglienza. Alla sezione del concorso specificamente dedicata alle storie di migrazione e di diaspora, si aggiunge una specifica rillettura di venti anni di rappresentazioni mediatiche dei fenomeni migratori, con riferimento al protocollo deontologico elaborato dall’Associazione Carta di Roma. A questi temi di bruciante attualità sono dedicati anche i momenti di spettacolo dal vivo proposti, in una logica di contaminazione, in apertura e chiusura del Festival, con la pièce “Questo è il mio nome” del Teatro dell’Orsa, che vede sul palco un gruppo di richiedenti asilo, e l’intensa esperienza di “Stregoni”, a cura di Johnny Mox e Above the Tree, in occasione della serata delle premiazioni.

A moving world The relationship with Cinformi, the Information Centre for Immigration of the Autonomous Province of Trento, has proved to be fundamental, with its vast network of cultural and social organizations which organize the Week of Welcome just before the Festival. In the section of the competition specifically dedicated to stories of migration and diaspora, there will be a specific reinterpretation of twenty years of media representations of migratory phenomena, referring to the code of conduct elaborated by the Associazione Carta in Rome. In addition to these highly topical themes there will also be some moments of live entertainment, on the opening and closing ceremonies of the Festival, with the show “Questo è mio nome” by the Teatro dell’Orsa, which sees a group of asylum seekers on the stage, and the intense experience of “Stregoni”, by Johnny Mox and Above the Tree, on the occasion of the award ceremony.

La retrospettiva Venti anni in venti film. Nel suo compleanno, Religion Today presenta anche una selezione dei grandi film a tema religioso che hanno scandito la storia recente del cinema, selezionati di concerto con un gruppo internazionale di esperti delle diverse cinematografie, dall’Italia al Medio Oriente, dall’Africa alle Americhe.

Retrospective Twenty years in twenty films. On this special birthday, Religion Today will also present a selection of the great films on a religious theme that have marked the recent history of cinema, jointly selected by an international group of experts of different cinema backgrounds from Italy to the Middle East, Africa and America.

Ospiti e pubblici Ospitando i lavori della giuria internazionale e della giuria SIGNIS, oltre ad una conferenza internazionale di direttori di film festival, Trento torna ad accogliere l’esperienza del laboratorio di convivenza tra professionisti in grado di farsi moltiplicatori di opinione nei rispettivi paesi di provenienza. La presenza di decine di ospiti di diverse nazionalità viene inoltre valorizzata nell’incontro con i diversi pubblici, che potranno condividere le emozioni di un evento autenticamente internazionale. Alle proiezioni serali si aggiungono sessioni pomeridiane pensate anche per facilitare la partecipazione della popolazione matura e anziana, mentre le matinée sono riservate alle scuole, con programmi differenziati per le varie fasce di età e a coronamento dei percorsi sviluppati lungo tutto l’anno. La varietà delle cinematografie rappresentate apre inoltre la strada alla partecipazione di nuovi cittadini e diverse comunità, coinvolte anche attraverso il dialogo con le associazioni che le rappresentano.

Guests and audiences In hosting both the international jury and the SIGNIS jury, as well as an international conference with film festival directors, Trento again welcomes the living workshop experience. This puts professionals together, people who are able to report back to their countries the multitude of opinions that arise from the experience. The presence of dozens of guests from different nations is something to be exploited in the meetings with different audiences, who can share their emotions in a truly international event. Alongside the evening screenings there will be afternoon sessions aimed at a more mature public of adults and pensioners, while the mornings are dedicated to local schools with differentiated programmes for various age groups. The variety of cinematic styles represented also opens the way to the participation of new citizens and different communities involved through dialogue with those associations that represent them. A wandering spirit Remaining faithful to its itinerant past, the Festival will touch base in various places around the province, from Arco to Borgo and Pergine Valsugana; in addition to the Trentino appointments there will also be those with our partners in Merano and Rome, who year after year have guaranteed Religion Today an important break at both regional and national level, as well as international events with old and new partners from Jerusalem to Bangladesh.

In questi anni l’esplosione della violenza nel cuore d‘Europa ha rilanciato l’urgenza di azioni orientate alla condivisione e alla convivenza. A fronte di politiche nazionali spesso ancora incerte, assumono importanza strategica le buone pratiche e le visioni di prospettiva elaborate a livello regionale e locale; senza dimenticare che le sfide poste dalla diversità non possono essere affrontate solo sul piano del diritto e dell’architettura istituzionale, ma anche sul piano educativo e culturale. Al pari di Trento, dove è nato Religion Today, Barcellona è sede della Mostra de Cinema Espiritual de Catalunya: iniziative che si inseriscono all’interno di contesti culturali e istituzionali particolarmente sensibili al tema della pluralità religiosa. Sono queste le premesse del doppio appuntamento internazionale in programma nell’ambito della 20° edizione del RTFF, in continuità con l’importante esperienza di network tra festival di cinema spirituale avviata a Barcellona dall’Observatori Blanquerna de Comunicació, Religió i Cultura e dalla Direcció General d’Afers Religiosos della Generalitat de Catalunya con la collaborazione di SIGNIS International. Trento diventa così il teatro di una riflessione di portata transnazionale sul rapporto tra autonomia, politica, diritto, cultura e diversità religiosa.

In recent years the explosion of violence in the heart of Europe has spawned actions aimed at sharing experiences and living together. In the face of national politics which is often uncertain, good practices and ways of seeing things developed at regional and local level now assume a strategic importance; not forgetting that the challenges posed by diversity cannot be tackled only at the level of law and the establishment, but also at an educational and cultural level. At an equal standing to Trento, where Religion Today was born, Barcelona is the home of the Mostra de Cinema Espiritual de Catalunya: two initiatives which are at the heart of cultural and institutional contexts particularly sensitive to the theme of religious variety. This is what this double international appointment has in store within the 20th edition of the RTFF, continuing the important experience of the network between religious cinema launched in Barcelona by the Observatori Blanquerna de Comunicació, Religió i Cultura and by the Direcció General d’Afers Religiosos of the Generalitat de Catalunya with the collaboration of SIGNIS International. Trento thus becomes the stage for reflection on a transnational scale on the relationship between autonomy, politics, law, culture and religious diversity.

Film director and scholar, a graduate of the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School Jerusalem and the Department of Linguistics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is a programmer for the Jerusalem Film Festival, program consultant for the Hamburg Film Festival, a member of the Israeli Film Academy and contributor to film preservation projects at the Israel Film Archive in the Jerusalem Cinematheque and the Judaica Division Images Collections of Harvard University.

Benjamin Freidenberg Regista e studioso, diplomato presso la Sam Spiegel Film & Television School di Gerusalemme e il dipartimento di linguistica della Hebrew University di Gerusalemme. A University of Cambridge graduate, she worked as a Management Consultant between London, Paris and Berlin. For the last two years she has coordinated the Refugee Voices in Film programme with the UNHCR at the Cannes Film Festival; she has served as jury member and keynote speaker at numerous international film festivals. She is a Strategy Consultant and the Festival Producer of the Watersprite: Cambridge International Student Film Festival.

Bernadette Schramm Diplomata presso l’Univesristà di Cambridge, ha lavorato come consulente alla gestione aziendale fra Londra, Parigi e Berlino. Negli ultimi due anni ha coordinato il programma “Refugee Voices in Film” al Festival di Cannes con l’Alto commissariato delle Nazioni Unite per i rifugiati; è stata relatrice e membro di giuria in numerosi film festival internazionali. È stata direttrice ed è oggi consulente strategico del Watersprite: Cambridge International Student Film Festival.

Goran Radovanovic. Diplomato in storia dell’arte all’Università di Filosofia di Belgrado, ha lavorato come sceneggiatore e regista di film a soggetto e documentari. È membro della European Film Academy di Berlino e Film Artists Association di Serbia. Vincitore di molti premi come regista, è anche attivo nell’insegnamento in numerose istituzioni (EICTV di San Antonio de los Banos, Cuba, VGIK a Mosca, Oberlin College in Ohio - USA, ESAP in Portogallo, DFFB a Berlino); tiene lezioni e workshop in numerosi film festival. Having graduated in art history from Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy, he has worked as writer and director of both feature and documentary films. He is a member of the European Film Academy Berlin and Film Artists Association of Serbia. Winner of many awards as a director, he is also active in teaching in numerous institutions (EICTV in San Antonio de los Banos, Cuba, VGIK in Moscow, Oberlin College in Ohio - USA, ESAP in Portugal, DFFB in Berlin), and is invited to give masterclasses and hold workshops in numerous film festivals. 21

Graduate in Business Communication and Marketing at LUMSA of Rome. He is currently Head of Marketing at SIAE. He has been director of the Tertio Millennio Film Fest and general director of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo (FEdS). He has participated in international cooperation projects regarding the cinema and audiovisual sector together with the MiBACT Cinema General Directorate and other institutions. Since 2009 he has been a European delegate of SIGNIS and has served as a juror in several international film festivals.

Antonio Urrata Laureato in Comunicazione d’Impresa alla LUMSA di Roma, attualmente è Responsabile Marketing della SIAE. E’ stato direttore direttore generale della Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo (FEdS) e del Tertio Millennio Film Fest. Ha partecipato a progetti di cooperazione internazionale nel settore cinema e audiovisivo insieme alla Direzione Generale Cinema MiBACT e ad altre realtà del settore. Dal 2009 è delegato europeo di SIGNIS per il cinema, e ha preso parte come giurato a numerosi film festival internazionali.

Ahmed Muztaba Zamal. Attivista della Film Society, presidente della Rainbow Film Society (tra le principali realtà del paese), è direttore e fondatore del Dhaka International Film Festival, nato nel 1992 come primo festival cinematografico a carattere privato del Bangladesh. Nel 1994 ha fondato la sezione nazionale di FIPRESCI ed è stato eletto segretario generale dell’Associazione internazionale dei critici cinematografici del Bangladesh (IFCAB); dirige la rivista Celluloid. Film Society activist, he is the current President of Rainbow Film Society (a leading film society of the country). He is the founder and director of the Dhaka International Film Festival, the first ever private sector feature film festival in Bangladesh since 1992. In 1994 he founded the Bangladesh Chapter of FIPRESCI and was elected Secretary General of the International Film Critics Association of Bangladesh – IFCAB. He runs a quarterly cine magazine Celluloid. 22

This film is about a psychological journey of a woman named Rubi; once she loved her husband devotedly but the feeling is long gone. Sitting beside her husband’s dead body, she doesn’t feel any grief or any other emotion whatsoever. She remembers her life with this man, and discovers that her once beloved husband died to her long before his actual demise. Rubi is not a self declared feminist but her surroundings and her life-struggle made her a strong woman.

An evening of intense religious euphoria follows and Probir feels he is like a child in a religious Disneyland. He is being accompanied by his childhood Muslim friend Anuar, who is enjoying the Hindu festival in his own hedonistic way. But his mother Goddess has other plans for him.

Il padre di Esther era un becchino e nel suo testamento ha lasciato una sola ma significativa richiesta: che uno dei suoi figli continui la sua professione. A poetic documentary about life in a war‑torn Chechen village, with the cemetery as its symbolic focal point. The village lives and breathes in unison. The gravediggers are always busy. Death is an everyday visitor. It does not even matter that yet another war has ended. The people live stuck in a circle of vengeance. They also gather into circles to chant prayers to God. The Chechens’ parting words to one another are, “May you come back free!”

The contrasts between ancient and contemporary, religious and profane, are sometimes disturbing at times hilarious. A film which is not about religion but about how religion can be lived.
