TABLER 4 TABLER PROJECT

Fighting the Silent Pandemic

By Mr DANIELE CUSI,Round Table International C.S.O 2022-2023

Do you know what is described as the “Silent Pandemic”? With Silent Pandemic, we are talking about Men’s Mental Health issues.

THE TABLER-4-TABLER PROJECT was born to help men understand mental Health Problems and to prevent male suicide. Before talking about how you can help your brothers out there, let’s talk about some notions you may not know about men’s mental Health. BOTH MEN AND WOMEN experience mental health issues. Even if women are more likely to think of suicide, men die twice as often from it. only one in three men would take medication if depressed, and only one in four would consider seeking professional help. Treating mental illness and preventing male suicide is complex, but it becomes much easier when spotted early.

ACCORDING TO THE World Health organization, there are about 800.000 confirmed cases of suicide per year. This means that more people die every year due to suicide than HIV, malaria or Breast Cancer.

But how can you help your Brothers? First, pay attention to all the signs to be aware of:

Changes in mood Anger issues, irritability and aggressiveness Change in appetite Feeling Restless and the shift in sleeping habits High consumption of alcohol and inappropriate use of drugs Emotional low Experience of pains and aches without a probable cause Thinking about suicide

Ask people how they are doing, and don’t be afraid to tell them how you really feel. Learn to manage stress levels, limit alcohol and other stimulants, and exercise regularly. If someone reaches out to you, be prepared to listen and support them.

LONG BEFORE A SUICIDE OCCURS, other psychological stressors are in place. Suicide is usually preceded by depression and other psychological challenges over a prolonged period. It is medically proven that the sooner one starts mental health treatment, the more successful it will be. Finding help involves the people closest to you and the people you trust.

WE CAN AND WE WILL make a difference following the Tabler4Tabler project, helping our brothers all around the world.
