Cultural Fusion: Gen Z's Influence on Global Trends and Diversity

UNITING TRADITIONS THROUGH MODERN ROUND TABLE INITIATIVES

Mr MARC GERMESHAUSEN, Round Table International President 2023-2024

IN THE SPRAWLING LANDSCAPE of global cultural exchange, we at Round table, a young men's service club known for our commitment to fellowship, friendship, and community service, are spearheading efforts to bridge generational and geographical divides. With Gen Z at the helm, our esteemed association is increasingly pivotal in shaping and promoting a future where diverse cultural expressions and traditions fuse seamlessly.

THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF ROUND TABLE

Founded in 1927 by louis Marchesi in norwich, england, Round table was conceived as a club where young men could gather to exchange ideas and serve their communities. drawing inspiration from the arthurian legend, we, as tablers, commit to enhancing our personal and professional lives through community service and networking opportunities. this foundation has uniquely positioned us to influence and engage with the gen Z demographic.

GEN Z: CATALYSTS OF CULTURAL FUSION

generation Z, born from the late 1990s through the early 2010s, are digital natives who have grown up in a hyper-connected world. their upbringing in the internet era has exposed them to many cultures, fostering an appreciation for diversity unlike any previous generation. this global perspective is reflected in their attitudes, behaviours, and expectations, particularly regarding cultural identity and community engagement.

ROUND TABLE'S ROLE IN FOSTERING CULTURAL INTEGRATION

Round table clubs worldwide, from europe to africa, america, and asia, are harnessing this generational shift by involving Gen Z members in projects that serve local needs and promote cultural understanding. these projects range from charity drives to cultural exchange programs, all designed to reflect our members' diverse backgrounds and experiences. a significant part of this integration is international tabling. these exchanges allow us as young men to experience and appreciate cultural nuances firsthand, leading to a greater understanding and appreciation of global diversity.

10 RTI LEGACY | FRoM the BoaRd

IMPACT ON GLOBAL TRENDS

gen Z's influence through Round table could extend to broader societal trends, including new ways of community service, fellowship, and cultural experience. they are breaking down traditional barriers by advocating for and practicing cultural fusion. For instance, our Round table events often feature multicultural elements that directly reflect local and international trends.

THE FUTURE OF DIVERSITY IN ROUND TABLE

as we continue to evolve, we are actively adapting our mission to be more inclusive in terms of membership and the scope of our activities. this includes greater emphasis on global humanitarian issues and sustainable development goals, which resonate strongly with Gen Z's inclusivity, sustainability, and global citizenship values.

CONCLUSION

our blend of tradition with modern sensibilities, combined with the energetic influence of gen Z, is creating a dynamic environment where cultural fusion is celebrated as a path to global understanding and cooperation. as these young men lead the way, they are not just participants in their cultures but active architects of an interconnected world. the promise of this fusion is a more cohesive, diverse, and inclusive global society, held together by the enduring values of fellowship and service that have been the cornerstone of Round table since our inception. in the dance of cultures that defines our time, we at Round table, with all our members, are pivotal players, proving that when diverse minds meet, the future is bright.

VICE PRESIDENT

Gen Z: The Catalyst for Round Table's Future Growth

AS OUR WORLD RAPIDLY EVOLVES, Round table must adapt even more swiftly. gen Z is the key to accelerating our movement's growth. Being the first generation of digital natives, they have grown up with the internet and modern technologies, making them crucial for our organization's approach to this "new world."

Gen Z seeks jobs and lifestyles that positively contribute to society, aligning perfectly with our mission to impact local communities positively. this generation is paradoxical in its diversity and strong commitment to inclusivity. as tablers, we respect everyone regardless of socioeconomic status or ethnicity. We are a global community united in our values.

Gen Z inherently supports one of our core pillars: conservation. Born into an era of significant climate change and environmental degradation, they are dedicated to sustainability and making tough decisions to ensure a healthier planet. as tablers, we are moving towards hosting green and sustainable events, and Gen Z can help us enhance these efforts.

Gen Z is notably wiser than previous generations at the same age. they don't wait for solutions; they create them. the quote, "We do when others just watch," perfectly embodies Round table's spirit and aligns with Gen Z's proactive ideals.

importantly, Gen Z prioritizes physical and mental health, breaking down the prejudices that previous generations, particularly regarding men's mental health, often held. our ongoing projects focused on men's health can significantly benefit from Gen Z's fresh perspectives and commitment.

looking towards the future, Gen Z will undoubtedly be our leaders, but we need their involvement now. they are already shaping today's world, and their commitment to Round table's efforts is essential. this unity makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work, and, indeed, Round table work.

PAST PRESIDENT

Exploring Alternative Education Models:

Mr NADEEN KUMARASINGHE, Round Table International Secretary 2023-2024 GEN Z'S QUEST FOR NON-TRADITIONAL LEARNING

GEN Z ARE THE DIGITAL NATIVES. digital ways of education are the need of the hour to target Gen Z. they are the ones who want more technology to be integrated with the education system. traditional learning systems, which focused on teacher-based learning and memorization through repetition of books and resource material, were undoubtedly the cornerstone of knowledge. still, with digitization and emphasis on it for the new era of Gen Z, these have become outdated.

there are specific learning requirements that gen Z expects, which can be understood very well by the 4 Rs model.

> they expect learning linked to "Real" time experiences, situations, and practical examples. they are fast learners who believe in easy ways of communication.

> they want to learn what makes sense to them, and thus, "Relevant" topics. they are more interested in solving problems and are considered excellent team players.

> the Gen Z students expect and want the teachers to be more concerned about their needs. they want them to be "ReCeptiVe". Rather than using their communication and knowledge, they expect the teachers to understand their needs and mould the training method per their requirements.

> they also expect a "Relational" way of communication. they expect more open and transparent communication with the facilitators. they want to relate with them.

We have seen how technology has been reshaping the world every second; Gen Z, being the future leaders, are shaping the future at a very early age because of the broader use of the internet. it is not that the traditional learning system did not have any technology. due to the speed of evolution, older methods are getting outdated. the adoption of changes by Gen Z so frequently is a perfect example of adopt, adapt, and improve.

some of the tools that can be instrumental in the effective and efficient learning of Gen Z are as follows:

> Use of visual display and visual information. infographics, charts, videos, and other visual communication tools should be used more. it seems the old system of just powerpoint presentations will not be ideal today.

> Use of self-directed learning tools. Gen Z wants to choose what they want to know and learn. so use of tools where they can select the modules on topics they are interested in will make them more interested.

14 RTI LEGACY | FRoM the BoaRd
RTI

> they believe in collaborative social learning and also emphasize social learning. social media tools and applications like Microsoft teams can be used more.

> Real-life situation simulation exercises, case studies, and on-site learning approaches are essential methods as they believe in more experiential learning.

> Use of in-hand easy way of technology. app-based learning models can be easily accessible on mobile phones.

in conclusion, as people say, Gen Z is more driven by technology, which is also true; we need to note that every generation in their time has used technology, which was prevalent then. however, the speed of evolution and adoption has recently increased significantly. as Mark Mccrindle suggested, people believe there is a generation gap between Gen Z and past generations; however, the core problem is the communication gap. empathetic communication with the twist in education technology might do the trick.

Tabling at the CEETM in Ghent

BELGIUM WAS THE UNEXPECTED SCENE of this year’s ceetM. Unexpected, but nonetheless beautiful and well organised was this year’s event. the Friday evening was a Walhalla for any beer lover out there. those who do not drink beer had less options to lavish their thirst, but were nonetheless amazed by the beautiful evening that had been set up. a tour in the local brewery with an enthusiastic guide; a beer tasting (not just tasing, since there was an open bar with 5 types of beers); and an all you could eat buffet, made that no one dared to complain that there was not enough for everyone.

the next day, the day of the ceetM itself, was a tight schedule. the ceetM lasted only slightly longer than anticipated and there was some confusion about the time the meeting was supposed to start. the wishful thinkers thought 9.30am was the appropriate time, whereas the chairman – who was tackling a very busy agenda – was adamant 9 am was to be the start of the meeting and the only way to get everything done in time. Under the very watchful eye of Mr. Marc Germeshausen, who intervened whenever it was deemed necessary to avoid potential protocol nightmares, the meeting was held in a serene and timely fashion. preference was given to content and information transfer over status updates. concretely, there were presentations on numerous expansion and extension initiatives like: 1) the extension workbook (holy grail) of Rt the netherlands; 2) the Rt Malta initiative to keep the over 40 (year old tablers) involved in the process of chartering new tables; and 3) the workshops that RtBi has been giving around the clubs in their association. this programme made that tablers, and more importantly their delegates, would leave the meeting with a lot of useful information that they could apply, or could be inspired by, to help further improve their own association or club back home.

in the afternoon, the tour around ghent was magnificent, with a basket full of beer following the participants around in a cargo bike. the tour was followed by a BBQ at the local club house, almost south african style, although the meet cuts were far too small to be considered south african. as a former national president, who will remain nameless, used to say: “everything below 500g. is carpaccio.”

the gala dinner and award ceremony on saturday evening was amazing. the food was actually good, which is not a given with these events, where budgets are notoriously tight. a special congratulations goes to the following cee award winners:

> Round table Great Britain and ireland: association of the year;

> Round table tirana in albania: table of the year;

> Mark Meijer: tabler of the year.

> Round table austria: social service project of the year.

18 RTI LEGACY | Regional RepoRts

this obviously does not mean that other tablers, tables and associations might not be deserving, since there are a great many tablers, tables and associations that work hard every year to push our movement to new heights. sadly, there can only be one winner of an award, but this does not mean that we are not all winners in our own right when we supersede the effort of the year before.

Finally, i want to thank Round table Belgium to pick up the gauntlet and organise this even and a very special thanks goes to the convening team who worked tirelessly to make this event the absolute best ceetM that i could have wished for! lots of love!

Spring is the best time for a Tabler

SPRING BRINGS WITH IT THE AGM SEASON. For most of the associations in the nea region, the aGM event is scheduled for the spring season, usually in May or June. have you visited your own association's aGM? how about another country's event?

spring or summer also brings numbermeetings/euromeetings, the easiest way for many members to participate in international activities. have you ever attended such an event?

club activities are the foundation and most important level of Rt activities. in addition to club activities, many members enjoy annual district, national-level, and international events. among these activities at the national level, especially the organisations' spring or annual meetings (agM), gather many participants. Most countries in our region hold an aGM annually or every other year together with our sister association, ladies circle.

depending on the organisation's size, the aGM event will gather from tens to more than a thousand participants. You are usually sure to meet new friends and acquaintances in them, and possibly, depending on your experiences, several old friends as well. aGM events are also a great way to network outside of your city or region. in addition, the discussions held at these meetings will certainly be useful for developing your club activities. Rt best practices are passed from club to club only through discussion and sharing.

at the aGM, you usually also meet international Rt friends because our most enthusiastic members often attend events in other countries besides their own country's events. in addition, several organisations have exchange agreements that bring members to visit each other's events. contacts with international friends at the aGM bring one more tasty addition to the event.

international activities can bring a whole new side to our beloved hobby or lifestyle. it's easy to catch up on international activities at the numbermeetings organised in different parts of europe (and the world). the countries of the nea region recently surveyed the clubs' experiences of the said activity. More on that a little later.

have a really good spring and summer. i hope you can participate in national and international Rt events in the coming weeks.

NAVIGATING THE AGE

BALANCING MENTAL HEALTH AND SOCIAL MEDIA

RTI LEGACY | Mental health and social M edia 31

social media is everywhere. the digital age gives you both opportunities and challenges regarding mental health the World Wide Web offers many resources, support communities, and online therapy that can be accessed from the comfort of your home. Social connections are a valuable key to mental health, and digital solutions make it easier to retain contact with friends both near and far. on the other hand, the internet and social media also present an everlasting stream of information, comparison traps on social media, and the risk of online abuse or misinformation.

here are a couple of tips to start with regarding mental health:

1

ALWAYS USE SOURCE CRITICISM

it is always important to rely solely on reputable sources. even more important when it comes to mental health and well-being. only take info from medical websites, mental health organizations, and peer-reviewed articles with high prominent knowledge. Be aware of misinformation that may not be backed by scientific evidence.

2 USE SOCIAL MEDIA WITH CAUTION

Go through your social media feeds and include content that uplifts and inspires you, and consider deleting other feeds or taking breaks when needed.

32 RTI LEGACY | Mental health and social M edia

4

TAKE A BREAK

take a break if you need it! if social media overwhelms you or creates negative stress, stepping away is ok. do something else, like spend time with family, walk in nature, practise a hobby, or do something else. offline activities provide needed respite from the digital world..

SPROUT SOCIAL

everyone's on some social media platform or, in most cases, multiple platforms. Ultimately, social media comes down to a basic human desire: connecting with other people, belonging, and being part of a group. as a Round table, ours is a specific group that is not understood by many.

so, why social media? Why should your club use this to target our demographic , including Gen Z's upcoming lead generation?

WHETHER ITS teenagers using tiktok, influencers, organisations and small businesses utilising instagram and Facebook, or professionals engaging on linkedinsocial media is the primary choice for broadening connections in any industry or field.

social media connects a diverse audience on a global scale by closing communication barriers between different age groups, interests, and career fields. By strategically using social media to engage directly with your audience and creating and publishing relevant content, these platforms are a surefire way to reach the right eyes and ears.

clear advantages here are the ability to reach your target audience directly, gain more visibility, and create long-lasting brand recognition

social media, no matter your platform, can yield significant success when utilised effectively - regardless of whether you're serving on a club, national or international level. to gain a better understanding, here are the three main factors that highlight the significance of social media in today's society:

KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES AND LOVED ONES

in today's fast-paced and often stressful world, finding time to meet up with friends and family members in person every day can be challenging. Fortunately, social media provides us with various ways to stay connected, such as sending short messages, video calling, or simply checking in to see how they're doing or sharing your news. thanks to social media platforms, we can bridge the communication gap and maintain strong relationships with our loved ones and professional contacts.

ENTERTAINMENT & RELAXATION

according to many social media pundits, the second most common reason people use social media is for entertainment and relaxation after staying in

touch with family and friends. this includes watching reels, stories, and other quickly digestible snippets. From cooking videos and humorous content to updates on favourite celebrities, pop culture, music, and celebrating national sports team victories, the entertainment value on social media is high. as a club, you can take advantage of this by posting trending and entertaining content, such as memes and other relatable content, which are all in good taste. in short, adding the "entertainment" factor to your mix of social media content could be a great way to attract more attention to your posts. Besides, as a Member of Round table, there's never a shortage of entertaining topics....

REMAINING FIRM IN ONE'S BELIEFS & OPINIONS.

everyone wants to be heard. We will always be surrounded by individuals who won't share our way of thinking, our aims, and our objectives, and subsequently, a disagreement is bound to happen. nonetheless, when we use the correct tone, share our unique and goodwill-driven values, and showcase our actions, we can express our thoughts positively and connect with like-minded individuals on all social media platforms. With one vision and a united-in-diverse approach, these channels help establish a powerful voice for the issues we believe in and those we deem essential to address and engage in meaningful conversations.

so, is it worth all the effort to have an active social media platform to help spread the live-changing word of Round table? Absolutely!

if you'd like more guidance on how to get the most out of your soMed efforts. please feel free to contact the Rti public Relations team.

FLAUNT A CLASSIC LIKE A
TABLING
2023-2024
By Mr PAUL HOEKSEMA , RTI

RTI LEGACY | B o W it like B ond 39
The day you get inducted into the world's greatest young men's organisation (or maybe even before then), you can take your chips to the cashier that you'll have to sport a "penguin suit" complete with a bow tie sooner or later.

BEFORE THAT, THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE you admired the suave gents sporting bow ties on the silver screen or the jolly gents at tabling events, sometimes flooding your socials. an essential accessory piece for a gentleman's overall polished look is that of the age-old bow tie. like our unique, diverse demographic, they come in all shapes and sizesfrom a rondel-loaded silk version to a bespoke-inspired leather option. With a full calendar, this tabler must-have rarely gather dust in an old shoe box.

But...have you ever considered the "finer art" of starring this beloved dapper accessory? say no more; the legacy team's here for your fashion entertainment!

First, here's a short history of the bow tie:

the bow tie has a long history dating back to the 17th century prussian wars when croatian mercenaries used them to keep their shirts closed. the French adopted the style, calling it a 'cravat,' and it became a fashion trend. in the 19th century, the bow tie became its own accessory, distinct from the cravat and necktie.

pierre lorillard introduced the tuxedo in 1886, highlighting the bow tie as a symbol of male elegance for formal occasions. over the years, the bow tie has evolved as a fashion statement, from a rebel symbol to the signature look of the absentminded professor, solidifying its iconic status in fashion. and, on the Round table front, there are numerous records of louis Marchesi himself, donning the timeless bow tie. now, let's delve into the 5 tips on how you can bow it like Bond!

1

SIZE MATTERS

(no, that's not what she said)

A bow tie exudes its max-debonair when it is correctly sized in proportion to your handsome face. The knot's width should match the jaw's width at the maxillary (relating to a jaw), without completely covering the neck. If the bow tie is not proportionate to your face or is either too narrow or too wide, the overall look will leave you looking like a grounded oneprop aircraft. Furthermore, the size of the bow tie should suit your body, as the volume of the bow tie must fit your frame.

RTI LEGACY | B o W it like B ond 41

BE A MA-MAMATERIAL BOY

Choosing the right material is another crucial aspect in achieving the desired look of flaunting the bowtie. Of course, bow ties come in various materials such as cotton, silk, wool and, as mentioned above, even leather. The bow tie is not just subject to formal events and can be incorporated into scores of other occasions, including daily wear. A wool bow tie adds a masculine and unique twist when compared to the more conventional cotton or silk options. The wool version adds a unique texture and complements a wool suit nicely. If you are looking for a distinctive and casual appearance, the knit or leather bow tie is a perfect option for wearing in a less formal environment, whereas the cotton weave adds a pleasant fullness to the bow tie.

3 COVER

COLOUR & CO

As an embellishment, the bow tie should be the cherry on the ice cream, the finishing touch to your ensemble (or the improve to your adopt & adapt). The bow tie should be the focal point of your outfit and best as a contrasting shade or as a complement in a darker, more traditional hue. A prospecting "bow tie beginner" can bank on navy and black bow ties to be the most straightforward option to wear, each matching the suit colour. Wearing a classic white shirt with most suits or a bit of a mod option in a blue suit would be ideal. If you are not cautious of flirting with bold colours like the Dutch's orange, try experimenting with a burgundy-red bow tie or other hues to add a "youngest Tabler" energy to your look. Just like with any other accessories, the options for colour selection are extensive. You should stick to one rule: prioritise your happiness as long as it fits the bigger picture!

RTI LEGACY | B o W it like B ond 43

4

THIS IS SOME GOOD SHIRT

It goes without saying, a shirt is the ideal pairing for a bow tie. That being said, not every shirt is bow tie-appropriate. The top tip here would be to ensure you sport a shirt with a collar that has a gap between the ends of the collar proportional to the wings of the bow tie. It's best to opt for traditional collars like French, English, club, or broken with a medium to narrow gap. Generally, it is best to steer clear of Italian collars that are excessively large and wide open. Italian collars are most suitable when worn with a tie and can also work well with a larger Windsor bow.

44 RTI LEGACY | B o W it like B ond

OCCASIONS FOR THE TABLE NATIONS

As a Member of Round Table, there's never a shortage of events where you can showcase your "Marchesi magic". Being a well-dressed do-gooder involves wearing the right outfits for the right situation. Nevertheless, you don't need to wait for a special event to put your bow tie on display. This accessory is as versatile as it is suitable for both casual and formal wear. For a casual night out, a bow tie pairs nicely with jeans and a laidback shirt and is the ideal complement for showcasing your individuality and attention to small details. Knitted bow ties are especially on point for pairing with informal outfits. And, on the opposite spectrum, besides the scores of black-tie events or even meetings, bow ties should be a welcome ally at weddings as they are more elegant than an openneck shirt but arguably not as formal as a tie. Come what event may, your bow tie's versatility cannot be understated.

And there you have it! By choosing the right size, colour, material, and occasion, you can adopt these bow tie tips, adapt them to suit your style best and improve them.

GEN Z'S ROLE IN INFLUENCER MARKETING AND HOW ROUND TABLE CAN ADAPT

RTI LEGACY | in F l U ence R M a R ketin G 47

GEN Z'S ROLE IN THE digital world makes them key players in influencer marketing. they prefer platforms like tiktok, instagram, and Youtube, where they share content that always promises the possibility of going viral. these platforms are crucial for brands because they are where young influencers can reach millions of viewers. We see many successful marketing campaigns on these platforms that work because they are original and resonate with the everyday experiences of young people. Yet the effort needed to play this for a specific brand successfully is very high, while specific targeting is difficult. and landing a viral hit intentionally is even more difficult.

WHAT IS INFLUENCER MARKETING ANYWAY?

influencer marketing has transformed from individuals simply showing products to forming strategic partnerships with brands. this marketing shift is significant due to gen Z—born roughly between the late 1990s and early 2010s—who are particularly influential because they've grown up with technology.

their influence is profound because they naturally understand how to engage people online and drive trends. they are open to influencers' opinions yet look for authentic content.

CHALLENGES IN INFLUENCER MARKETING

While influencer marketing is powerful, it's not without its challenges. it raises concerns about consumerism and the mental health of both influencers and their audiences. Brands must be mindful of these issues by promoting products responsibly and supporting healthy consumer habits.

LEVERAGING INTERNAL RESOURCES FOR INFLUENCER MARKETING IN NGOS

For us, Round table, at the association level or on local or similar organizations, lacks a dedicated marketing budget, so influencer marketing is a rather difficult topic. While it can be worthwhile on a general awareness level, the most valuable contacts happen on a much more individual and personal level. if we are to proceed on the path of influencer marketing, the key to harnessing the power of influencer marketing lies in

Z's integration into the influencer economy isn't just changing how brands market products; it's setting new trends that will define the future of marketing.

activating their own young members. By encouraging these young members to share their personal stories and experiences related to their Round table work, Round table can tap into their networks and reach. this grassroots approach does not require a large budget; instead, it relies on the authenticity and enthusiasm of our members. training sessions could be organized to help young advocates create compelling content and maintain a consistent message that aligns with the goal and mission of Round table. this strategy could increase visibility and support for our initiatives and empower young members by giving them a voice and active role in our mission.

ADAPTING

TO GEN Z'S INFLUENCE IN ORGANIZATIONAL

SETTINGS

our workshops at the Rti hYM in nepal focused on preparing Round table for Generation Z and highlighted several strategies to align with this demographic's values and interests. key takeaways include the importance of personal contact over digital-only approaches, like tiktok, which isn't the sole attraction but part of broader brand awareness.

suggestions included integrating Gen Z into the public relations task forces to keep posts and communication relevant. emphasizing real fellowship over an elitist image, creating content showcasing personal impacts, and ensuring organizational roles include young voices, especially those under 30, to effectively reflect and engage this younger generation. these strategies focus on making the organization more inclusive, relevant, and appealing to younger members, ensuring that Round table remains vibrant and forward-looking.

the pR team will follow up on these results in the following weeks and months.

GOING FORWARD

gen Z's integration into the influencer economy isn't just changing how brands market products; it's setting new trends that will define the future of marketing. Brands and organizations that want to stay relevant need to understand how to work effectively with young influencers and create campaigns that are true to their message. Round table has proven since 1927 that we can always find a way to be relevant and attractive to the next generation – whether Gen X, Z, or alpha.

TRENDS FROM THE EMPLOYEE'S PERSPECTIVE

INCREASED FLEXIBILITY AND WORK-LIFE BALANCE Remote work has granted employees unprecedented flexibility in managing their schedules. this flexibility allows employees to tailor their work hours around personal commitments, leading to a better work-life balance. the absence of a daily commute also saves time and reduces stress, contributing to overall well-being.

Geographical Freedom one of the most appealing aspects of remote work is the ability to work from anywhere. employees are no longer bound by proximity to their office, enabling them to live in more affordable or desirable locations. this geographical freedom has also facilitated a trend known as "workcations," where employees combine work and travel, working remotely from various locations worldwide.

increased productivity and Job satisfaction numerous studies have shown that remote workers often experience increased productivity due to fewer distractions and a quieter work environment. the autonomy and trust placed in employees to manage their own schedules can also lead to higher job satisfaction and morale.

challenges of isolation and overworking despite its advantages, remote work can also lead to feelings of isolation and loneliness due to the lack of in-person interactions. additionally, the blurred lines between work and personal life can result in employees overworking and experiencing burnout.

52 RTI LEGACY | di G ital no M ads

TRENDS FROM THE BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

COST SAVINGS AND TALENT ACQUISITION FOR EMPLOYERS, remote work can lead to significant cost savings on office space, utilities, and other overhead expenses. Moreover, the ability to hire talent from anywhere in the world expands the talent pool, allowing companies to attract highly skilled professionals who may not be available locally.

shift to hybrid Work Models Many organisations are adopting hybrid work models, combining remote and in-office work. this approach aims to balance the benefits of remote work with the advantages of face-to-face collaboration. hybrid models provide flexibility while maintaining opportunities for team building and spontaneous interactions that can spark innovation.

investments in technology and cybersecurity the shift to remote work has necessitated substantial investments in technology and cybersecurity. employers must provide employees with the necessary tools and software to work efficiently from home. ensuring robust cybersecurity measures is also crucial to protect sensitive company data from cyber threats.

challenges in Managing Remote teams Managing remote teams presents unique challenges, including maintaining communication, ensuring accountability, and fostering a cohesive team culture. employers must adapt their management styles and develop new strategies to address these challenges effectively.

MAKING REMOTE WORK SUCCESSFUL:

GUIDANCE FOR EMPLOYEES AND BUSINESS

ESTABLISH A DEDICATED WORKSPACE

creating a dedicated workspace at home can help delineate work from personal life. a well-organised and comfortable workspace can enhance productivity and focus.

SET CLEAR BOUNDARIES

to avoid overworking, establish clear boundaries between work hours and personal time. communicate these boundaries to family members or housemates to minimise interruptions.

MAINTAIN REGULAR COMMUNICATION

Regular check-ins with colleagues and supervisors can combat feelings of isolation and keep you connected to the team. Utilise video calls, chat apps, and virtual collaboration tools to stay in touch.

PRIORITISE SELF-CARE

taking breaks, exercising, and engaging in hobbies are essential for maintaining mental and physical health. prioritise self-care to prevent burnout and sustain long-term productivity.

54 RTI LEGACY | di G ital no M ads

FOR BUSINESS:

PROVIDE ADEQUATE RESOURCES

ensure employees can access the necessary technology, tools, and resources to perform their tasks effectively. this includes providing laptops, software, and reliable internet connections.

FOSTER A STRONG TEAM CULTURE

create opportunities for virtual team-building activities and social interactions to maintain a sense of community and belonging. celebrate achievements and recognise employee contributions regularly.

IMPLEMENT FLEXIBLE POLICIES

develop policies that accommodate various work styles and preferences. allow employees to choose their work hours within reason and offer options for hybrid work arrangements.

FOCUS ON OUTCOMES,

not hours shift the focus from tracking hours worked to measuring outcomes and results. trust employees to manage their own time and evaluate their performance based on the quality and timeliness of their work.

the transition to remote working has introduced opportunities and challenges for employees and businesses. By understanding these trends and implementing best practices, both parties can harness the benefits of remote work while mitigating its drawbacks. as the future of work continues to evolve, adaptability and open communication will be vital in ensuring that remote work remains a viable and successful option for all.

IN RECENT YEARS, several key trends have emerged in the gaming industry:

BUILDING CONNECTIONS

FELLOWSHIP THROUGH GAMING

GAMING HAS ALWAYS HAD THE POWER to bring people together, and recent advancements have only strengthened this aspect:

> Multiplayer and Co-Op Games cooperative games encourage teamwork and communication. titles like Overwatch, Destiny 2, and Among Us require players to collaborate, fostering a sense of camaraderie.

> Online Communities platforms like Discord and Reddit have become central hubs for gaming communities, where players can share experiences, tips, and form friendships. these online communities often extend beyond the game, providing social support and connection.

> In-Game Events and Social Spaces Games like Fortnite and Animal Crossing: New Horizons host in-game events, concerts, and social gatherings, creating virtual spaces where players can interact in a relaxed environment. these events transcend traditional gameplay, turning games into social experiences.

THE LAST 50 YEARS OF GAMING have been marked by innovation, competition, and cultural shifts. From the early days of arcade games to the current digital distribution and virtual reality era, the gaming industry has continually evolved. Recent trends like cloud gaming, vR, esports, and cross-platform play highlight the industry's dynamic nature. importantly, Gaming fosters fellowship, bringing people together in ways that transcend geographical boundaries. as technology advances, the future of gaming promises even more opportunities for connection, creativity, and shared experiences.

in the same way gaming has evolved to meet the needs of gamers, we at Round table needs to do the same. our motto of adopt, adapt, improve, must be applied to what we offer to future tablers.

like the gaming industry, we must adapt to the ever-changing needs of our members – we must simply accept that we cannot offer Pac-Man to our 2024 members and expect them to come running.

EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY

technology is at the forefront of transforming events. virtual and hybrid events have become the norm, allowing for greater reach and flexibility. to captivate future audiences, consider integrating the following technological advancements:

> Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR): vR and aR can transport attendees to different worlds or enhance the physical environment with interactive elements. For instance, an aGM could include a virtual tour of a successful project run or show milestones being achieved. We can get this in the field and live to get participants in touch with communities they would never be able to access.

> Live Streaming and Hybrid Setups: We have seen some associations embracing this to great effect during Covid times. Combining in-person events with live streaming can cater to both local and global audiences. this approach widens your reach and accommodates those who prefer or need to attend remotely.

> Interactive Platforms: Utilise platforms that allow real-time interaction, such as polls, Q& a sessions, and chat functionalities. these tools can make attendees feel more involved and connected, especially those not in the room.

PERSONALISATION AND CUSTOMISATION

personalising the event experience can significantly enhance engagement. here are a few ideas:

> Tailored Content: Use data to understand your audience’s preferences and tailor content accordingly. this could include personalised agendas, breakout sessions, and workshops that cater to different interests and professional needs. something small, such as a personalised lanyard with their unique schedule in there, would be memorable.

> Customised Invitations and Communications: personalised invitations and follow-up communications can make attendees feel valued and more likely to participate actively. anyone who has ever received an invitation to a president’s cocktail would know the feeling of excitement that you feel upon receiving it.

> Branded Experiences: create a cohesive experience that aligns with your brand. this could be through themed decorations, branded digital content, and customised giveaways. Just remember to spell check eveRY thinG to avoid embarressment!!!

ENGAGING FORMATS AND ACTIVITIES

the format of your event plays a crucial role in keeping the audience engaged. Move away from traditional lecture-style formats and incorporate more dynamic activities:

> Interactive Workshops and Sessions: at the recent half Year Meeting in nepal, Rti hosted a few successful workshops to address the issues facing tabling globally. handson activities and interactive workshops can foster engagement and learning. encourage participation through group tasks, discussions, and problem-solving activities.

> Gamification: introducing elements of gamification can make events more enjoyable and engaging. consider incorporating quizzes, competitions, and reward systems to motivate participation. a good example is the passport system introduced at the nations night in south africa at the World Meeting. every stand had a stamp verifying if you tasted all they offered.

66 RTI LEGACY | the FU t UR e o F events

FOSTERING COMMUNITY AND INCLUSIVITY

creating a sense of community and inclusivity is essential for modern events. ensure your events cater to diverse audiences and foster a welcoming environment:

> Diverse Speaker Line-ups: ensure your speakers represent different backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise. this can enrich the content and make it more relatable to a broader audience.

> Inclusive Activities: design activities that are accessible and inclusive, considering various needs and preferences. this includes providing options for remote participation, dietary considerations, and accommodating different time zones. Doing something physical, such as a sport or a hike, is great for team building, too.

> Community Building: encourage ongoing engagement through community-building activities such as social media groups, post-event meetups, and continuous learning opportunities.

PROVIDING VALUE AND MEASURING SUCCESS

the key to a successful event is providing value to your attendees. here’s how you can ensure your events are valuable and measure their success:

> Content Quality: ensure the content is high-quality, relevant, and actionable. this can include keynote speeches, expert panels, and practical workshops that offer tangible takeaways. something like a good video, an engaging presentation and a great Master of ceremonies can be a game-changer.

> Feedback Mechanisms: collect feedback through surveys, polls, and direct conversations. Use this data to understand what worked well and what could be improved for future events. share this with future convenors so that everyone benefits from your efforts.

With the above, i am certain that you would be able to create an event that will be remembered for years to come.

AWE OF THE HALL

Mr PAUL HOEKSEMA , RTI Public relations Officer 2023-2024

AS A MEMBER of Round table, you are sure to have a "tabling" bucket list as long as your forearm. From, to name but a few; attending a national assembly under the african skies, enjoying a cold pint at the Marchesi pub, pinning the helsinki tabler’s book, to visiting the norwich museum, and all the friends in between, there are enough significant experiences to fill a tabler's sUv full of stories written.

on the top (or close to the top) of your list should be planting your boots firmly (and a phone roll full of selfies) at the great Winchester hall. surrounded by the remains of Winchester castle, built by William the conqueror no less, the Great hall in hampshire, england, stars arguably the greatest symbols of medieval mythology and inspiration to our iconic emblem, king arthur’s Round table. the undeniably powerful meaning behind this symbol is the perfect fit for the world's greatest young men's

104 RTI LEGACY | in aWe oF the GReat hall

organisation - with no head at the table, the iconic tabletop personifies chivalry, service, equality and shared importance.

interestingly enough, the table in the Great hall is not from the time of king arthur but rather built six centuries later by edward i, according to radiocarbon dating and carpentry studies. it was likely used as the centrepiece at a tournament in 1290 to celebrate the engagement of one of edward's daughters.

it was later restored and painted by henry viii, and features the tudor Rose and the 24 arthurian knights'

names around the perimeter. constructed of english oak, this magnificent centre piece measures 5.5 meters in diameter, weighs 1.32 tons, and once had 12 outer legs & a central support.

snapping a photo in front of this unmistakable talisman and mentioning you have been is a bragging right sought after by almost everyone affiliated with our friendship-fueled movement.

if you've ever been to this significantly historic site, be sure to inspire others to experience the awe of taking in a part of our tabling roots.

AGM RTBI 2024

DearTabler

tHE AGM IN BOURNEMOUTH was a side-by-side event. it is for this reason that i found myself, flanked by two lovely ladies of ladies’ circle Belgium, in a car headed towards leshuttle to make the crossing to the British isles. My calculations were that we would be arriving at approximately 5pm, but multiple toilet breaks later (which tablers, who have travelled with women more frequently, might have been more aware of), it turned out that 7pm should have been the estimated time of arrival communicated to our welcoming committee.

the hotel we arrived at seemed to be a testimony of the faded glory of the empire. a time at which the prosperity of the distinguished middle class required the use of carpet flooring throughout the premises. at time at which, furthermore, the presence of black mould in bathrooms was nothing to worry about. Yes, i am exaggerating, it was not that bad at all.

on arrival, we were met by a jolly group of pirates, who were dressed up as tablers, or was it the other way around. a number of parrots and carrots were also present, because let’s face it, a theme is nothing if you can’t take it to the extreme. the tone had been set, as it had already become clear that this would be, without a doubt, a legendary weekend of fun, friendship and endless banter.

Friday evening ended on a pier with tablers and circlers flying on a zipline above our heads while the search for the lost treasure remained unsolved. thus, consolation had to be found in rum, beer and the cart of sweets – yes, a candy cart has a better ring to it – that was available to raise blood sugar levels in order to allow us to stay awake throughout the night.

on saturday, breakfast was skipped by myself, to allow an extra hour of well needed and well deserved sleep. a long car ride can be quite draining, especially when this car ride consists of one participating in a karaoke bonanza set up by the formerly mentioned circler sisters. Moreover, yours truly, i.e. your Rti representative, had to be presentable at the official annual general meeting to give a three-minute speech and present outgoing president christopher Bush with his truly earned cee star of Recognition. chris has been, apart from a formidable national president, a truly inspiring delegate on the international scene. his presence at and active involvement during Rti meetings, and his meaningful contributions to the ongoing discussions on Rti and cee level did not go unnoticed. i really hope that the importance of keeping the bonds between our associations strong and to further solidify the cooperation between associations remains a priority under the current RtBi president. after all, we are #Unitedindiversity and we are #strongertogether. the rest of the weekend, the Wi-Fi wars, at the not so traditional gala event, was absolutely entertaining, although it did prevent the habitual exchange of stories and anecdotes without screaming off each other’s ears. i like my ear attached, thank you very much. the rest is history! and history always, and in this case that is a very good thing, repeats itself. so if you are not attending next year’s RtBi aGM, start again at the top of the page please. there is information there that you have missed! thank you RtBi, we had a blast!

Yours in International Tabling

THE INVESTMENT ENVIRONMENT IN MOROCCO

116 RTI LEGACY | investinG in MoRocco
Mr OMAR HIMMICHE, Round Table International Treasurer 2023-2024

With its strategic location at the crossroads of africa, europe, and the Middle east, Morocco has long been recognized as an attractive destination for investors. the Moroccan government has recently implemented various measures to enhance the investment environment and promote economic growth. From initiatives like the Morocco sMe program to the introduction of a new investment charter, the country is actively working to create a conducive atmosphere for domestic and foreign investors.

RTI LEGACY | investinG in MoRocco 117

MOROCCO IS AFRICA'S 2nd most attractive investment destination, thanks to its strategic location, dynamic economy and young and competitive labour force. investors find Morocco lucrative due to its strategic location, strong manufacturing base and tailored development plans. Morocco has a dynamic and resilient economy with a stable inflation rate of under 2% since 2010 and a gross domestic product that has tripled in less than 20 years. Morocco also has a young and competitive labour force, with 39% of the population between 20 and 35 years old and a minimum wage of 278$/month.

TEN LARGEST RECIPENTS BY FDI SCORE 2020

Foreign investment projects in Morocco are handled by Regional investment centers, which deliberate on the acceptability of projects, approve eligibility for incentives and issue certain operating permits.

A RANGE OF INCENTIVES FOR INVESTORS SUPPORTS MOROCCO'S INVESTMENT ATTRACTIVENESS:

Morocco SME Program: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprise: small and Medium enterprises (sMes) are crucial in driving economic development and creating employment opportunities. Recognizing this, the Moroccan government launched the Morocco sMe program to support small businesses' growth and sustainability. this initiative provides financial assistance, technical support, and capacity-building programs to sMes across various sectors. these enterprises can expand their operations, innovate, and contribute to economic prosperity through access to funding and resources.

New Investment Charter: Streamlining Regulations and Incentives: the investment charter in Morocco outlines a comprehensive framework to promote and facilitate investments in the country. Within this charter, there are four key mechanisms designed to encourage investment and provide support to both domestic and foreign investors:

2. SPECIFIC SUPPORT MECHANISM FOR STRATEGIC PROJECTS:

in addition to the main support mechanism, the investment charter includes a specific support mechanism tailored for strategic projects. these projects, identified for their significant impact on economic development and national priorities, receive targeted support to facilitate their implementation. the incentives dedicated to strategic projects incorporate tailored and specific support measures that closely align with the needs of investors.

this year, our president airi attended the MtM in Dubai for the apaC Region, which was truly a memorable experience, especially for those attending for the first time. the weekend started early on Friday morning with an opportunity to explore the stunning beauty of Dubai before the official Welcome soirée. activities included an exhilarating "Fast & Furious" session in the desert, followed by a cultural immersion also in the desert, fostering strong bonds among participants.

at saturday's meeting, countries presented overviews of their activities, covering simple and challenging topics. these discussions generated strong emotions but ultimately inspired and motivated participants to strive for continuous improvement. the gala evening was beautiful and heartfelt, characterised by a lively celebration, dancing together, taking pictures, delicious food and the joy of reuniting with old friends and making new ones.

Due to a late flight on sunday, it was also possible to drive around dubai and see the main attractions from a bird's eye view, adding an extra layer of excitement to the already unforgettable weekend. For some, including airi, it was her first visit to Dubai, and the experience left an indelible mark. the mix of adventure, learning and camaraderie created memories that will last a lifetime, leaving participants eager to return for future gatherings.

Meanwhile, Vice president lisha joined the Mediterranean Region for their meeting in carcassonne, an absolute highlight of her lci journey! nestled within the breathtaking walls of the carcassonne castle, the weekend unfolded into a perfect blend of productivity, camaraderie, and unforgettable experiences.

exploring the castle on Friday morning was like stepping back in time, immersing ourselves in its rich history and majestic beauty. and what better way to kick off the festivities than by donning our most vibrant, colourful outfits and dancing the night away?

the saturday meeting was a revelation, offering profound insights into each country's unique journey within lci. engaging in group discussions revealed a shared tapestry of challenges and triumphs, fostering an inspiring exchange of ideas and paving the way for meaningful outcomes. and let's not forget the gala dinner—a culinary delight that tantalised our taste buds and left us craving more!

throughout it all, the unwavering support of the Rt family was a constant source of encouragement,

reminding us of the strength and unity within our global community.

our dear treasurer susi joined the meeting hosted by the nordic region, where she was invited to "Release your inner snow Queen." how lucky was she to travel to the lci MtM of the nordic Region? together with 180 ladies from the region, susi enjoyed a great gettogether event with a great dinner on Friday evening in vaasa.

one highlight followed the next: saturday's nordic Region Mid term Meeting in the vaasa town hall was a particularly impressive morning. seeing so many ladies attending the meeting and catching up on the latest news was great. But she was also amazed by the reports from the national boards and lc countries - it was great to see what was achieved here and what is still being planned.

the absolute highlight was the snow Queen Gala. after all the guests were provided with extra sparkle, they could enjoy a grand gala together and share special lC moments. Meeting old friends for the first time…definitely more than true once again!

over 8,000 miles away, lCi secretary Vicky attended the africa region meeting, where the kasane, Botswana team had arranged a fun safari-themed welcome party with the obligatory braai. the meeting on saturday morning was well attended and run in a purpose-built venue.

the afternoon saw local artisans share some traditional jewellery-making skills in the sun before heading off on a boat safari to see the best Botswana

has to offer before heading back to the venue for a sunset-themed gala dinner.

the event was well supported by Rt and Club 41, and the ladies made the most of it to gain amazing publicity for their clubs and service projects. it also showed the closeness and support of each other of the ladies within the region.

last but not least, ipp Martina was welcomed to Franconia in Bavaria for the lci MtM of the Middle european Region with more than 140 Circlers, where everyone enjoyed a welcome buffet with culinary delights like Franconian t-bone steaks and had a great get-together.

the meeting was held at the technical University in the city of nürnberg, and the room was utterly overcrowded, as many more participants than expected wanted to join. the afternoon was spent in the beautiful old town, and the next highlight of the weekend followed…a night in the Zoo. all MtM participants met at the Zoo for a walk with lanterns through the twilight to the restaurant in the middle of the Zoo.

after a fantastic dinner with old friends met for the first time and a massive tombola, everyone danced the night away in a club - what a weekend!

the most common theme that each executive Board member noted during these meetings and their travels is the diversity and drive within our organisation. the members on the ground, the real grassroots, progress our organisation forward and make us the unique global network we are.

CLUB 41 INTERNATIONAL

Full Steam Ahead

EMBRACING DIVERSITY AND UNITY IN THE 41 CLUB ROUND TABLE FAMILY

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PASSIONATE about the 4 Club Round table Family in Great Britain and ireland, and i designed the logo they now use so widely.

therefore, i have been so pleased to work with Jayant and Marc and their two Boards and have attended every meeting of the Round table Family working “side by side”, sharing ideas and good practices. attending and speaking at your aGM in cape town and your hYM in nepal was great. i was impressed with the number of excellent initiatives you are undertaking to move your organisation forward.

i love the United in diversity theme and have taken that up and talked about how we should value differences within our movement. Different countries have different histories and different rules. it particularly disappoints me that we do not allow members who are not ex-tablers to vote at our meetings.

of course, internationally, we have a 5 Club Round table Family, including ladies circle, agora and tangent, and it has been very inspiring to see the work of all the associations. We even have a smashing new Round table Family logo.

My theme this year has been “Full steam ahead”, which symbolises that, within the Round table Family, we still have energy and do stuff as we get older. after you leave the table, it is not the end of the line; it is just an interchange station where you get off the Round table train, walk across the platform, and onto the 41 Club train. it’s ready, waiting, and going in the same direction - Full steam ahead. When the time comes, please join your 41 Club and inject new ideas into it.

so let’s keep promoting each other’s organisations and pursuing our objectives of increased membership, having fun and fellowship and doing good in our communities.

during the year, i visited 22 countries and chaired in excess of 24 board meetings (we have board meetings and country boards). i met so many members and had such wonderful experiences. i never intended to become the international president of 41 Club. it just seemed to happen because i love the organisation so much. i am so pleased i did, and i hope i made a difference.

United in Diversity

CELEBRATING LIFELONG CONNECTIONS IN THE ROUND TABLE FAMILY

DEAR TABLERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD! small events and moments in our lives often pave the way for bigger experiences and opportunities. every small step we take leads to significant changes and achievements.

a neighbour who introduced us to tabling is now long forgotten! But the movement he brought into our lives is lifelong!

once a tabler, always a tabler, as with another name, 41ers never retire! the same with being a circler and even more sweeter being a tangent; we never need to know one’s age! in the Round table Family, one is United in diversity, where each achievement is like we have all won… and each one’s sorrow is ours to bear together! We have our 3:00 a.m. friends here!

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high… Where the world has not been broken up into fragments… Where words come out from the depth of truth… … … into that heaven of freedom and friendship let us all awake

…. misquoting Rabindranath tagore a little, these words communicate the power of Round table

Reach out with this drive and grow your tribe! Year after year, your leaders have propelled the association to the next level of growth. now it is time for each one of you to be an ambassador … Be proud, be aspirational, as a simple word, “Friendship” and a simple identity, “ tabler” … opens the world to one and all!

this comes as my last address as president of tangent Club international. as i hand over early next month, i would like to thank the leaders of the Rt Family, with whom i have worked closely. Jayant and now Marc, you both are so inclusive, versatile and Unstoppable! You have raised the bar and set high benchmarks for future leaders. thank you for walking alongside us and making us look good, too. it was wonderful working together. congratulations to Round table for nearing your century!
