October 5 to 7, 2023
Optional activity after the end of the RTRS Meeting Point in São Paulo.
The Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS) invites you to take part in the Field Visit to Uberlândia, Minas Gerais (Brazil), from 5 to 7 October 2023.
Under the framework of RTRS Meeting Point 2023, we propose a field trip to learn more about the impact of RTRS certification and, at the same time, understand what happens along the sustainable supply chain, from the origin of soy and corn all the way to processing and distribution.
The aim of this activity is to enrich and expand the networking and learning experience enabled by the RTRS Meeting Point, which will take place the two days before, October 4 and 5, by means of field visits to RTRS certified sites in Uberlândia, located just an hour and a half from São Paulo by plane.
The state of Minas Gerais is divided into 853 municipalities and crossed by the springs of some of Brazil's main rivers. The state is also strategically positioned in the country in terms of water resources, with a tropical climate ranging from cold and humid in the south to semiarid in the north. All these factors combined favour the existence of a rich fauna and flora, distributed across the biomes that comprise the state – mainly the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest ecoregions.
The state of Minas Gerais is also recognised for its strong coffee, cachaça and iron ore production.

Uberlândia is a municipality in the state of Minas Gerais. Its territory is 98% composed of the Cerrado biome and 2% of the Atlantic Forest biome and is located in a region known as “Triângulo Mineiro” (the Minas Gerais Triangle).
Triângulo Mineiro is one of the richest regions of the state, and its economy focuses on distribution. The main industries in the region operate in the food processing, wood, sugar and ethanol, tobacco and fertiliser industries.
Uberlândia is also home to Porto Seco do Cerrado, with infrastructure available to serve importers and exporters.
Minas Gerais is the sixth largest soy producing state in Brazil, with approximately 2 million hectares planted and a total production of 7.5 million tons. Most of this production is concentrated in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Parnaíba regions. Of this production, almost 40,000 planted hectares have already been RTRS certified, for a total of over 150,000 tons of certified soy. In the state, facilities belonging to ADM, Cargill, CJ Selecta, General Mills and SAAG, Sociedade de Armazenamento e Agricultura Ltda., have RTRS Chain of Custody certification.
