ARCHITECTURE AS A SYMBOL OF EXPRESSION Do you know what an art and architecture have in common? Meaning. Like how colors match with each other, how geometry is aligning, it represents meaning. The thought. The only difference is how it’s expressed, and that’s how my interest in art evolves into architecture. Architecture is more than a building; it is a form shaped by humans that reflects the identity of the culture and history with its given surrounding content. Rather than a shell, architecture resembles a symbol of expression by interpreting those contents through intangible aspects and built form to express meaning of itself. An identity of the entity. Throughout my thought process, architecture can act as a storyboard which narrates the story through the form and emotion within, a design that can also be able to portray the essence and sense of place. Captivating visual of the structure portrays the site and prompt the sense of memory to those who are experiencing the space. The idea emphasizes the balance of tangible and intangible aspect of architecture, analogically it acts as a body and soul. I practice such design with relevancy, the meaning of the site’s context. The bold meaning of what architecture can portray through the human eyes. It is shared in the portfolio to showcase the works of how these architectural elements collectively conveys the concept of representation. The design inspiration drawn from the human cultures and their current state reflects the identity of the context. The architecture is intended to impact the people subconsciously by responding toward its site’s contents. I believe architecture is a symbol of expression.

The project address humanity through a series of scenes and engagement to the site. The material, scale, view are carefully considered. The sea, the sand, the shadow and light are strong prove of existing time and space. The unbalanced bridge and tilted stilts quietly tells the story of the past days. The unattended temple connected to the bridge, standalone facing the vast landscape of the sea. It speak to every element to the site in proper word The temporality of human flesh yet the everlasting of memory expressed through the proposed built space. “Requiem of The Past is a place to recall, to portray, its a place of remembrance to express the spirit of the place.
THE CLAN JETTY TAN JETTY Along Weld Quay which extends the long way the south eastern coastline of George Town, one can discover village with lines of wooden houses on stilts worked over the ocean and associated by planked walkways. The massive migration in that era causing the sheds were built more and become the residential for worker and local. Now, Clan jetties approved by UNESCO as one of world heritage in George town inducing the rising popularity of clan jetties, prompting a lot of commercials stands to be built around.

02 MONKEYLAND Focused on Creative Thinking, Psychology, and Dynamic Movement Playscape Design Studio IV Childhood plays such an important role in the course of the rest of life. As the children grow older, their perception and curiosity level is affected by what they see and feel, thus playscape as a platform to stimulates their creative thinking and problem solving skill. Enhancing the children senses through series of movements and plays To meet the children’s needs for a stimulating and varied play environment, The playscape offers an environment where falling is encouraged, but getting back up is expected. It is an environment of risk and recovery, the active climb followed by the moment of rest. “Monkeyland” is a place to learn through play, evokes the flexibility of children in their mind and body.
DESIGN INTENTION
ABSTRACT THINKING Instead of concrete thinking, children should be fostered to think abstractly through visualization and imagination. In the proposed playscape, every step taken requires imagined coordination from own creativity to proceed and play.
SOCIAL INTERACTION Out from the age of egocentrism, children tend to make new friends through verbal interaction, sound feedback and movement. Levitated Monkeyland involves wide movements to get the most fun out of it.
MOTOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT All fine and gross motor skills should be further developed and mastered at this age. Monkeyland serves as a challenge to test their skills as well to encourage them acknowledge their rate of physical development.
EXPLORING CHILDREN’S SENSORIC ABILITY The playscape is intended to explore children s sensory ability by imposing physical and mental challenges to them. Not merely climbing activities, children need to think and find a way moving from one space to another, to further aid and develop their cognitive skills.
DESIGN CONCEPT
CONCEPT : DYNAMIC MOVEMENT Inspired by dynamic flow of childrens climbing patterns they are energetic, spontaneous, mischievous, etc.
C O N C E P T : V E R T I C A L P L AY Instead of typical horizontal play, our concept focuses on vertical play in which sets of modular bars and spaces are arranged in a spontaneous manner for children to climb, grasp, hang, swing, chase, overcome obstacles, and hide, meanwhile elevated off the ground will appeal to children.

The project is located within the old city of Klang. Its structure reflects the city’s history: row of shophouses from old times and new built houses have been added from the middle ages up to the present day. Focusing on the relationships between old and new buildings in term of form, texture, materials, and architectural language. The aim is to understand the influence of the site and the context in shaping the project, and how the proposed learning center can work and create harmonious urban environment. Prompting the interaction between the old and young, to create a dialogue and more spontaneous activities. “Aide-Memoire” The Space which not only for people to visit rather it focused in connecting people through interaction and communication, yet educative through the culture. A place to engage without social barrier where nothing private or exclusive, rather than a facility open to everyone, regardless of age or needs
KLANG Jalan Besar Being called as a royal town, Klang is a former capital state of Selangor, Malaysia. Inside this city, Jalan Besar lies at the south part of the Klang river. Well known as part of historical heritage, Jalan Besar surrounded by shophouses with different architecture style of different era. In order to preserve the historical value on site, façade of shophouses are protected under the government law, thus facades and window style of shophouses musn’t be changed under any circumstances to keep the historical essence. Historical buildings are being renovated and reused, in case of reconstruction, adaptive reuse is the solution. Nowadays, new buildings other than traditional business can be found scattered around the area such as OCBC & RHB Bank, Pos Laju, eateries, causing Jalan Besar filled with necessity facility to carry out the daily needs of the surrounding community or visitor. Vibrant and lively environment can be discovered through the crowded and varies of activity by the people on site, where Jalan Besar community mainly consists of dweller’s worker, white collars, visitor, and the resident.
K L A N G - T H E FA D E D M E M O RY Monotonous and historical, characteristic which is known as Klang significant. Nowadays, young generation moves out for effervescence, leaving the tedious city and their bestowed legacy by old generation. Dull and gloomy atmosphere, its about time that Klang will run out of their inheritor. Yet, some did stay back trying to defend their legacy, to preserve and to introduce it to people. Maybe its not about who has left and seek for glory, but who stay and withstand the problem?

The design brief calls for a proposal of a Culture and Innovation Center along Jalan Maharani, Muar. As the site is situated around the Maharani Royal town, hence the aim of the design is to build a key landmark of the site, which is an urban attractor and people generator, a magnet to attract people from different places in Malaysia and countries to visit and stay in the place. Culture and Innovation Center calls for a culture preservation and evoke the sense of place of the site as well as diverse activities of different genres provided for the users. Vibrant and accessible public place by the people and for the people that also acts as extended public facility and new public attraction to boost the tourism traffic. “Garden of Aromas is a living passage by the people, located on the edge of the old city and new city, surrounded by different nodes and connects them, this strategic site offers a good opportunity to create a landmark and contribute to the urban regeneration of this area
MUAR Jalan Maharani and Abdullah Located adjacent to the Bentayan river, the site sits beside the pedestrian walkway that links jalan Maharani and jalan Abdullah. Vary of nodes linked by the site, yet none ables to anchor the people. A mundane passage with no focal point as magnet, thus wasted lane of opportunity. The proposed culture and innovative center would be focused on introducing Muar’s signature which are spices and herbs that has been passed from generation to generation and at the same time reminisce the golden era of Muar. Users will be able to learn the processing of spices and herbs changed to consumable product and other implementation outside food consumption such as perfume and essential oil making. Ignites the creativity of users by making art using spices colouring and participates in handcraft making of herbs. Age free activity allows dialogue in between young and old, smoothen the process of passing down the baton of legacy The pedestrian walkway connecting the Bentayan terminal to the proposed CIC channels and direct visitors to ensure the space is constantly active. The intention is to re-inventing the street which enliven the passage and creates lane of attraction to enhance the pedestrian experience quality during their journey. The pedestrian street propels the flow of people, program and activity needed to activate the entire site. Therefore, the street plays important role in linking the architecture to the surroundings.
MUAR - THE FOR GOTTEN LEGACY Lack of anchor point to hold on visitor or even local. Mundane and the abscene of the youth also worsen the current condition, as people only come for necessity activity due to the lack of optional and social activity around the site. Although surrounded by different nodes which is the people generator, yet people still treat the site as a passing point during their journey. Limited knowledge in innovating spices and herbs as people attractor causing the lack of variety in vendor doing their business as the spices and herbs only treated for food consumption only. Youth who seek for effervescence left this place with low chance to come back and make a living. Youth is the keypoint in passing the legacy and preserve the passed tradition. Limited platform and lack of experience also hinder the local to improve and experimenting in creating a new trend to attract visitor
D E S I G N C O N S I D E R AT I O N Re-invent The Street
Inner pedestrian street propels the flow of people, program and activity needed to activate the entire site. The pedestrian street serves as a meeting place, both spontaneous and planned, due to series of interactive activities, pocket gardens and plaza that appear along the way, creates a street that also provides multiple standpoints to observe the ongoing activity and allow dialogue between people to happen during their journey. Cultivating an active engagement by responding to the daily lifestyle of the people in or visiting Muar.
