Module 1 ---How to draw a croissant?

Photo of elevation

How to measure a Croissant? Drawing the croissant is the first module in the my first smester in MSD, before the start of the drawing we have to choose the proper angle to take pictures of the croissant in the elevation view, plant view and section view. The reason why taking the pictures in the photostage is a better choice is that the quality of the pictures are dieclty influence the dark and light parts of the croissant. The essential requirement of this assignment is not to scale the pictures in the photostage and we should measure the croissant before cut it into 4 parts in order to compare the length and width measured in the photoshop to make the size of the final drawing equal to the actual size of the croissant.

Axonometric drawing of the corissant: Overlaying the drawing of croissant sections into the grids is helpful to make the axonometric measurement of croissant. After using grid to ensure the size of the section, putting 3 sections on the axonometric plane and make sure to rotate the the tracing paper to 45 degree by align it onto the T-Square ruler.

NEW MARIO WORLD The making of new Mario world. My Mario world devoted to imitate the film from Hayao Miyazaki, which is called The Borrower Arrietty. It is a movie describing the life of Arrietty who live in the mini world. Therefore, i was aim to put a mini world on a tabel to show a mini Mario World. The colour i choose to apply into my model are bright in order to keep the original style of the mario world. As u can see from the picture, my Mario World has a giant cloud, which may cover most part of my world. Thus transparent cloud is a good choice for me to present a complete world. The flowing river in my world is my way to show a dynamic city, water flowing from the upper layer to the second layer is the drainage system of the city.

Before the beginning of the drawings, all the essential tools have to be laid out. Putting the T-Square along the edge of the table in order to make show that the set square has been used horizontally, and the usage of the set square is to make sure that original Mario World papers are settled in 45 degree. Other things like pencil, rubber and masking tape are used to keep drawing in a clear and convenient way. Transforming the 2D Mario World into the axonometric images, the height and the width of the objects have to be measured accurately as the original mario world. But the depth can be flexible. As i have got a very giant cloud, i can’t draw the ground and the cloud in the same A3 tracing paper. Therefore, i separate them into two tracing paper ,and overlap them together when i want to scan for a complete Mario world.

Module 3 ---Pattern vs Surface

Terrain from Tasmania

Trying to make different patterns in order to choose some of them and apply them into the 3D model

I want to design my 3D model as the wings of the angels, therefore i choose the one have the 4 pyramids on the right corner which is similiar with the feather on the apex of the wing.

HIDDEN CITIES 4: THEODORA

18

Concept of the city Theodora is a dangerous hidden city, though everything looks so safe and clean  in the current time , the dangerous of revenge from the animals will be back at anytime. Therefore, i separate the  old quad The intersection of 2 time line is the cross of two spaces which means the time gap between current space and the future.

into 2 parts, the future (perspective1)and the current(perspective 2), at current time everyone fall in sleep safely but in the future space is the brutal war between animals and human. In the intersection of the sapce is a girl live in the gap of the time who can see the things happened in the both space. When she saw the dangers in the future she eagers to wake up the people live in the current time but she was trapped into the mirror.

Marco Polo’s movement iis traveling through 2 different time, bold arrow means walking through the space of future, and the reugular light arrow means walking through the current space.

REFLECTION

I inspired a lot from the process of finishing 4 modules. First module gave me a chance to know how to use the axonometric measurement which helps me have a deeper understanding of the 3 dimensional space. What’s more is the different sketch skills can express the different sense of darkness and lightness of an object. And the darkness and lightness of the sketching is the main element to show the dimensionality of an objects. From Module 2, the most important things i learned after the presentaion is that creating a world is not only about looking good but also have to focus on the meaning of existing of every buiding. The connection beween the buidings and the flowing of the river should have logical meaning. And the choose of the colour is also a good way to show the dimensionality and style of the world. My favourite module is module 3, though it spend a long time of folding, sticking and cutting papers, i was quite enjoy the process of changing the module from computer software to the real model. And this module let me know that only the developable surface can be enrolled, and three elementary types of developbel surface are cylinders, cones and tangent surfaces. The last module gave me a chance to create a homogenous space, and the highlight of this module is to understand the feeling of one city and use our own imagination to find the characters and textures to create a city which can fit to the feeling from the text. Besides the work of 2 perspectives, the usage of the differernt symbols to show the hierarchy of a cities is also the new knowledge i learnt from the fourth module. After finishing 4 modules i find that i have to make a lots of efforts on my digital skills and presentation skills, i spent a long time to solve the technique problems which made me a little time to realize my expection of my modules. And a poor presentation skill made my tutor always be confused about the things i want to express from my modules. Therefore, the next semester i will make lots of efforts to improve these two skills. (I made amendmnets on module 2 and module 4 after knowing tutor’s comments )
