The overriding theme in this introductory body of work is freedom; a relative concept but relevant in its subjective definition, juxtaposed with inner conflict;
the four writers bring in an interesting dimension to this visual narrative by writing a stanza of poetry each that culminates in one cohesive ‘story’ about inner conflict and the idea of freedom beyond our silent internal battles. the introduction of the first segment of this four part narrative unfolds online (from the 14th of october) drawing influences from david tshabalala’s #run the world ‘14 “instabition” that used instagram as a digital exhibition platform.

This narrative is my introductory body of work in a series of similar visual narratives that will follow. the visual messages carried within this first installation are an extension of my perspective, and an attempt to set the tone for my creative work moving forward. I would like to create thought-provoking work with an inward focus, imagery that dissects and captures the human experience. I believe it’s important to be cognizant of all that takes place within because that ultimately defines the outward viewpoint.
I’m blessed and honoured to be collaborating with such gifted writers and I trust that this project will be a memorable one.

khumo ntoane “Born and raised in Soweto. I’m a trained photojournalist who was lucky enough to run around on the Rhodes University campus. I’ve worked as a travel photojournalist for 2 years but discovered that wasn’t for me. I love photo documentaries and portraiture and hoping to find a subject I’d like to document (life is long right?). In the meantime I take photos for bloggers. My heart is also in writing and I’m busy on a few writing projects. I’ve been a content producer and community manager at SoulProviders - What a bad-ass time of my life. I love research, to dig and strip information to it’s bare facts. Recently, I’ve found myself assisting as a curator for a design exhibition (it’s still a small secret so I can’t mention names yet). I was once a teacher in the land of the morning calm, Hangkuk (South Korea) and it fostered my love affair with Asia. My big passion and hopefully my life’s work is urban infrastructure and trying to solve infrastructural problems to have more integrated and diverse cities. My feet are itchy and I have a strong urge to see more of the world, in fact I need to do more of that...just pick up my bags and go on adventures. I’m currently living in the strange and hauntingly beautiful republic of Cape Town.”
