ASSEMBLING GRAB &
GO KITS | 4/2/2022
Assembling grab and go kits was fun because it gave me an inside look into how these library things are organized. It also was fun to be able to help out with something other people will be bringing home. I would recommend doing it because it’s easy and the library is a nice environment to volunteer at. - Queena Yue
HASHTAG LUNCH BAG
QUEENS | 4/3/2022 The Hashtag Lunchbag Queens event was such a great and fulfilling experience as we helped pack sandwiches and a few snacks in lunch bags to help provide for anyone who would like a meal. We also decorated the lunch bags with inspirational and motivating words and drawings to encourage others through their endeavors. With the help of the other key club members, we set up an amazing assembly line to put the items in each bag and successfully filled up an entire table of lunch bags. Also, the staff shared a wonderful back story of the hashtag lunch bag of how it started with only a few people and now has grown into a large community. Inspired by the story, I am sharing this experience and would highly recommend this event to anyone who loves to help and support others to continue to grow the community. - YiLu Zheng
RONALD MCDONALD
HOUSE | 4/9/2022 The Ronald McDonald House was a lot of fun to visit. At the Ronald McDonald House, we made pasta for children who were residents of a nearby hospital. Making pasta with my pals was a fantastic experience, and I would strongly encourage others to participate. - Navin Oh
QUEENS COUNTY FARM 4/9/2022 &
EGG HUNT DAYS 1 & 2 4/26/2022 My experience at the queens county egg hunt was amazing. We helped set up the games for the kids attending the event. We set up and advised four games and a prize center at the event. It was a lot of fun helping the children and learning about the different games at the event. It was a great way to start my spring break besides the fact that the food there was super expensive. Thanks Key Club for giving me the opportunity to attend this events. - Angela Lin
NEW YORK VISIO
N WALK | 4/9/2022
In the Vision Walk event, I had a great time raising awareness for the visually impaired. When I arrived at Central Park, I helped set up stations for the staff members. At my assigned station, I handed out toys and other forms of entertainment to the kids. We held up signs that pointed to the correct route to guide people through the walk. At the end of the event, my fellow volunteers and I cleaned up the stations. - Aron Saylor
POOL FUNDRAI
ISER | 4/20/2022
In addition to the pool games, the billiard also offered other facilities for amusement. Such being a punching machine, which was my personal favorite and pulled a crowd of onlookers as people gave their best shot at the punching machine. The pool tournament was especially fun. Although I technically did not participate in the tournament, it was still enjoyable to watch and cheer the players on from the sidelines. While also getting a good laugh whenever my friend who was substituting for me in the game missed easy shots. - Jacky Miao
GARDEN CLEAN-UP AT FO
ORT TOTTEN | 4/22/2022
Being able to experience gardening was a fun but tiresome experience. I was able to learn how to properly plant a plant and learn to identify which plants were weeds. The scenery was also enjoyable. It was a nice sunny breezy day. It was also an eye opening experience. I was able to enjoy the outdoors without any technology. Now I feel I should enjoy the outdoors more often. - Steven Lie
CLIMATE ARTS FESTIV
AL SET-UP | 4/23/2022 On Saturday, April 23rd, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Climate Arts Festival Set Up in Queens Botanical Garden along with LaGuardia Key Club. Our alumni Ryan Kwon even came to volunteer with us! It was a beautiful day and you could see people picnicking, taking pictures, and exploring. There was even a wedding that day! The first thing we did when we arrived was replacing dead flowers in planters with new flowers. We had a variety of tulips and all the volunteers split into 3 groups in order to decorate one planter. It was extremely fun trying to decide on the location of each flower and experiment with different color combinations. I wish I didn’t wear a long white skirt that day though as it got dirty pretty quick. After that, we had a short lunch break where we were provided sandwiches and drinks! Next thing we did was set up tables, chairs, and a few tents all over the garden for the festival the next day. FYI the tents were really heavy (they were taller than me too!) All in all, it was a chill event and I even exchanged contact info with some of the LaGuardia Key Clubbers. I definitely enjoyed my time and it was great listening to “Can’t Help Falling in Love” at the wedding ceremony. - Ziyi Feng
CLIMATE ARTS FE
STIVAL | 4/24/2022 My experience at the Climate Arts Festival was amazing. I enjoyed it because I was able to meet a lot of new people and interact with them while being able to help them. I helped out at a Crafting table that made shelters for solitary bees with 3 other students from the Bayside Key club and LaG Key club, and I was able to talk with them and we worked with each other to help the children and adults coming to our table to help make the Homes from Solitary bees. I didn't have too much experience of volunteering events outside of school so it may take some courage to actually sign up to one, but I think it was such a nice experience and I am definitely looking forward to volunteering at more future events! - Shinji Lee
MARCH FOR BA My Saturday was made by the smiles of others around me, thanks to the warm sun, green grass, and the participation of many in Downtown Manhattan for the March for Babies event. Knowing that my action in walking could show so much support for those around me made me feel good as a Key Clubber. I was thrilled by the event and how well-organized it was; with the guest speakers and entertainment booths, this was undoubtedly one of my favorite Key Club events! - Ewen Liu
