Welcome to the new NOAH brand book! It introduces our new logo and shows how it is used to present ourselves to existing and prospective members, stakeholders, donors, collaborating organizations, business partners, and the media. Brands and logos are important because they are the quickest way to convey our identity in a recognizable and consistent manner. They are symbols that reect our personality and our mission, and they are vital in getting our message across. As you will see, the new logo is direct in its symbolism of Albinism, yet playful and esthetically pleasing. This book illustrates the uses of the new logo in print, digital media, and across a variety of platforms. Consistency, however, is essential to recognition: while there is a variety of ways the logo can be used, it is vital to adhere to the formats in this guide.
DESIGN CONCEPT LOGO
Albinism is an inherited genetic condition that reduces the amount of melanin pigment formed in the skin, hair and/or eyes. The National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation (NOAH) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to act as a conduit for accurate and authoritative information about all aspects of living with albinism and to provide a place where people with albinism and their families, in the United States and Canada, can find acceptance, support and fellowship. The new logo is direct, with a simple but esthetic design, and it is symbolic of Albinism. It is largely white, with a thin black outline, but it contains a small colorful rainbow. When scattered through a prism, white lights breaks apart in all colors of the rainbow. Albinos are as colorful as other people even if their skin appears white. And Albinos are as diverse as other people. The rainbow, then, also symbolizes diversity and inclusion. Finally, the logo design is interlaced and compact, reflecting the organization’s togetherness, and strength. The rainbow design is inspired by the Pink Floyd album cover of The Dark Side of the Moon. One of the most famous songs of this album is “Us and Them”, which denounces ‘otherness.’
