University of Miami enrolls most diverse class in history CORAL GABLES, Fla. – (Sept. 26, 2016) – The University of Miami has enrolled the most diverse freshman class of college students in its history. “Along with test scores, essays and extra-curricula, we really try to enroll a new class of students to reflect the diversity in the real world,” said Mark Reid, Executive Director of Admission. “Of course diversity is something the University of Miami prides itself on and I don’t see that ending anytime soon.” The class of 2020 has 2,026 students that come from 43 states and 37 countries. 45 percent identify as White, 27 percent identify as Hispanic, 10 percent identify as Black, 8 percent identify as Asian/Pacific Islander, 6 percent identify as other and 4 percent identify as two or more races. “UM’s diversity only helps us to solidify it as the hemispheric university,” said University of Miami President Julio Frenk. “Not only is UM a diverse campus, but we are also working to become a campus of inclusion. I feel this new class will embrace this ideal like no other class before it.” The University of Miami is ranked annually as one of the most ethnically diverse universities in the country and the newly admitted class of 2020 helps the university continue to climb in this category. ### Media Contact:
