Chris is a Little Rock native who currently anchors Daybreak and Good Morning Arkansas at KATV Channel 7. He also does the color commentary for the University of Central Arkansas Football Team.
Sarah Slocum Collins is a Sheridan native who serves as Chief of Staff for Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC. Sarah earned her law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law and is licensed in the state of Arkansas. Prior to law school, Sarah graduated summa cum laude from the University of Central Arkansas earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts with a minor in Mass Communication.
Chris was born in Little Rock and moved to Jacksonville, FL when he was ten years old. That’s where he became a huge NFL fan, specifically the Jacksonville Jaguars. With his parents both attending the University of Arkansas, Chris is also a lifelong Razorback fan. While is Florida, he attended Bishop Kenny High School and went on to graduate from the University of Central Florida in Orlando with a Radio/Television Degree. Go Knights! Before becoming Weekend Sports Anchor, Chris hosted FLW College Fishing on VS Network with former Channel 7 host Jason Harper & Professional Angler Justin Lucas from 2009-10. During this time he was able to travel the country hosting different fishing tournaments. He say this time was an amazing experience being able to learn from Jason and work with some of the most geniune people in the world. Although he joined the station officially in 2010, Chris completed 3 internships at KATV in the SPorts Department and learned “more than I could ever imagine” from Steve Sullivan, Dale Nicholson and Anthony Eckart. As far as Daybreak goes, there is not a better crew around. From the crew behind the scenes, to co-hosts Melinda and Alyson, work is truly fun in the morning.

But, what’s more difficult is to accept what’s been given to you, roll with the punches and try to decipher what can be learned through all of it. I’ve always hated the saying “God never gives you more than you can handle” because that is not true. God never gives you more than HE can handle. If we remember to lean on Him to guide us through, He’ll never fail.”

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals” – Zig Ziglar
My two years as Miss Arkansas has taught me more than I could have ever imagined. I have had the privilege of meeting the most amazing people in all four corners of the state and attended schools and events in towns that I could have never found on a map before. I have seen the beauty of Arkansas cotton at harvest-time, felt the breeze that comes off the White River, and called the Hogs in every place imaginable. I was able to promote my platform, Know Who You Are, to tens of thousands of people across the state. I will forever be changed by the students and people I have had the honor of meeting and speaking to. So firstly, I want to thank the people of Arkansas for allowing me to represent you. I want to thank the people who have been behind the scenes supporting me all year and the true backbone of this organization. When I went to Miss America, I realized how fortunate we are here in Arkansas. No other state has a support system that is as dedicated to the betterment of women. Thank you so much to the Miss Arkansas Board of Directors for everything you have done for me this year. Leo, thank you for being the rock I needed. Thank you for always making sure I was prepared for my day-to-day appearances, for being my biggest encourager and always being there to give me advice and support. I can never thank you enough. Nay and Lacy, I would have never willingly gone shopping before your teachings. I will always cherish the laughs and moments that we have shared. I love you both. Jessie, thank you for being the best leader and role-model I could have ever asked for. Miss Arkansas would not be the organization it is today without your love, leadership, and guidance. To the volunteers who make pageant week possible, thank you for giving up your time so selflessly so that women like me can have this opportunity.
I am so thankful that during my time in the Miss Arkansas Organization I have garnered just over $100,000 in scholarships. I was able to graduate from The University of Arkansas debt-free and I will not have to worry about loans during my first two years of medical school. For this gift, I give the biggest thank you to the Miss Arkansas Foundation and to every sponsor. Thank you for believing in what Miss Arkansas can do. To Sarah Cate, there is no one else I would have wanted by my side. I adore your kind spirit and passion for service. I love you dearly and I cannot wait to see what life has in store for you. I am so very thankful to have you as my sister. Mr. & Mrs. Lay, you have raised an amazing daughter and I am forever grateful that you have allowed me the opportunity to be a part of your family during our years of service. To my family and to my friends who have become family, I could not have done any of this without you all. Every appearance, every pep-talk, every text, and every moment. I am forever grateful that I have always had you to support me through every dream and adventure I have set my mind on. I can never repay you for everything you sacrificed for me to achieve this dream. I love you with all my heart. To my amazing princesses and their families, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your families over the past several years. I have learned so much about being a mentor and big sister from your daughters and I love you dearly. Madison and Avery, I have loved being your big sister. You both have incredible futures ahead of you and I cannot wait to support you in the ways that you have supported me.
FA R EWELL
On June 15th, 2019 I was given the honor of being crowned the 83rd Miss Arkansas. That night, I would have never imagined what the next two years would have in store. In May of 2020, I received a call asking if I would accept the job of Miss Arkansas for another year. I never would have dreamed that my decadelong journey in the Miss America Organization would have turned into a two-year reign during a pandemic. My first 9 months as Miss Arkansas were a stark difference from my last 15 months. I balanced being a full-time medical student at The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the job of Miss Arkansas. I have seen the strength and resilience of this organization and of the people of Arkansas, and I have loved every moment of serving.
I stepped on to the Miss Arkansas stage for the first time in July of 2015 and I knew then that the job of Miss Arkansas was special. I knew then that I wanted to be Miss Arkansas. For the last two years I have had the dream of serving as Miss Arkansas. It took me five years to become Miss Arkansas and that journey in itself is a testament to the integrity of this organization. Being Miss Arkansas carries an opportunity to be a powerful force for good. I pray that I was able to use that force to create a difference in the state of Arkansas. Though I am sad to see this chapter of my life close, I know that this journey has prepared me for whatever comes next. This organization has my heart and has shown me that no matter who you are and where you come from, if you know who you are and believe in yourself, you can make a difference. I love you Arkansas.
Darynne Dahlem

The outpouring of love from family and friends, board members, sponsors, scholarship donors, and Arkansans is unparalleled, as is the Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen system itself. I feel indebted to so many: Mrs. Stephanie, your efforts to better this program are tireless and amaze me everyday. You truly are my fairy godmother; these past two years, let alone the past six, would look entirely different if not for you. Mr. Rusty and Mrs. Lori, your kindness and words of encouragement were fundamental in helping me prepare for the state and national competitions, as well as serve as a titleholder. Thank you to Mrs. Pam Palmer for helping to shape my voice in the interview room and beyond. Thank you to Mr. Ronnie Weatherly for always making my hair look amazing and soothing my nerves with his pin curl magic, and to Mr. Dennis Harris, Mrs. Carrie Wood and Mrs. Lauren Colclasure for the hair and makeup services they provided. Thank you to Mrs. Jennifer Kirby, Mrs. Sloan Hocker, and Mrs. Joanna Reinhardt for pushing me to perform to my highest potential, even when that meant running a clogging routine ten times in a row. Thank you to Mr. Tony Bowls for
supporting and honoring my vision, and for always being a true friend. Thank you to all of my directors throughout the years, Mrs. Fawnda and Mrs. Lisa, Jessica, Danielle and Allison, Mr. Mark Sparks, and of course, Mrs. Abby Houseworth for ensuring my preparedness, my spirit, and for loving on me. Each and every one of these humans hold special places in my heart. Mom and dad, nothing in this world could ever explain the debt I feel to you. Thank you for supporting every last endeavor, and holding the hats of friend, chauffeur, coffee grabber, instagram picture taker, dress carrier and every job in between. Who I am is because of your endless work to foster a daughter who knew the importance of work ethic, social skills, and commitment. Thank you Chloe for being the strongest (and best big sister) and role model. Thank you to my family friends and best friends for being proud pageant supporters, always wearing pins or holding fatheads. Darynne Dahlem, I love you! I’ll never forget bonding over Harry Potter or being thankful that I can ask you any STEM related question I can think of. Your perseverance is inspiring and your jokes always make me laugh. Thank you for being my sister.
FA R EWELL
As luck would have it, I happened to be eating lunch one Sunday after church at Pleasant Valley Country Club, the same day that the 2015 Miss Arkansas Spring meeting was taking place. I was awestruck; I wanted to be one of those young women, and in a way, I felt like I already was. About six months later, I saw Rusty and Lori Hart at a former Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen’s senior cabaret, where they asked me if I wanted to compete in a preliminary; I competed in my first prelim in August, won my first title in November, and dove into a competition I knew next to nothing about. A twelve year old’s desire to do and be more has given me one of the greatest gifts I could have ever received. The past six years of my life have been heavily intertwined and influenced by this system; my four years as a local titleholder, and two years representing Arkansas have brought hardships and obstacles yes, but abounding opportunities and so much joy.
On a national, state, or local scale, your commitment, service, and passion makes an impact. I didn’t just want to be Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen, I wanted to change the world. Thank you to the Miss Arkansas and Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen Classes of 2020 and 2021 for continuing that commitment to yourselves, to one another, and to your community. The names you just read only briefly surmise the relationships I have gained because of this system, and serves as a testament to the value of the skills this program instills. I am forever changed, and forever grateful, for my time serving Arkansas.
Sarah Cate Lay
