Green- the color of life. Renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, harmony, freshness, safety, fertility, and environment. Traditionally associated with ambition, greed, and jealousy. These songs are easy. They ease in before you even realize it. Close your eyes and listen in the grass when it’s 65 degrees. The songs grow with the singer and have moments of clairity within them. These songs raise their hand in class. They leave the window open at night. They understand before they speak. They are green.
Red - the color of blood and fire, with meanings of passion, heat, longing, lust, strength, leadership, courage, vigor, rage, danger, wrath, action, vibrance These songs are unapologetic. They arrive with a slow build, and then all at once. Close your eyes when listening and imagine a fire. Like the color red, these songs are steady and show stopping with a consistant tempo and sinister undertone. These songs drive above the speed limit past curfew. They say what they’re thinking. They are red.
syn syn is an art and music magazine. shortened from the psychological disorder synesthesia, which is the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body. first, the first issue. i remember being a passenger in my mother’s old purple minivan, closing my eyes while i looked out the window and seeing color without opening my eyes. it was a secret circus in my mind that i could visit. when she played fleetwood mac it was maroon. when she played red hot chili peppers it was orange. for this issue i chose the colors red and green. complementary colors, showcasing their opposites and how they work together. green being wavy and ease, red being sharp and abrupt. so listen, close your eyes, and see it all.
