THE CHIEF OF THE STAFF (COMMISSIONER LYNDON BUCKINGHAM) AND COMMISSIONER BRONWYN BUCKINGHAM
C
ommissioners Bronwyn and Lyndon Buckingham, originally from the New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga Territory, are passionate representatives of The Salvation Army. They have served as officers since they were commissioned in 1990 as members of the Ambassadors for Christ Session. They assumed their current appointments as the Chief of the Staff and World Secretary for Women’s Ministries on 3 August 2018.
proud grandparents to two-year-old Israel. They are continually blessed, encouraged and challenged by the desire of their adult children to serve God in their generation. In each of their appointments the Buckinghams have displayed a desire to see the great news of the gospel shared. Bronwyn is inspired by the belief that God has a new truth to reveal to her daily and compelled by the promise that God is continuing to grow each person (Philippians 1:6).
Over their 28 years of officership, they have served in corps appointments in New Zealand and Canada, as Territorial Youth and Candidates Secretaries, Divisional Leaders and Territorial Program Secretaries.
Lyndon is passionate about finding ways for The Salvation Army to be more effective in fulfilling its mission. He is determined to be faithful to the covenants he has made, and is motivated by verses from Paul’s letter to the Colossians: ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men’ (Colossians 3:23 New International Version 1984).
On 1 February 2013 the Buckinghams were appointed to the Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory, firstly as Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women's Ministries, before assuming Territorial Leadership in June 2013. On 1 January 2018 they were appointed to lead the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland, Commissioner Lyndon Buckingham as Territorial Commander and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham as Territorial Leader for Leadership Development.
Bronwyn’s desire is to be the woman God is calling her to be. She is passionate to be part of an Army where the next generations will choose to embrace their leadership calling. Both are intent on enjoying life, endeavouring to stay fit by walking and jogging. They enjoy reading, watching good movies and are avid supporters of New Zealand rugby.
Bronwyn and Lyndon are parents to Daniel and Emma, and their lovely daughter-in-law, Juanita. Daniel and Juanita are Corps Officers in Auckland, New Zealand, and Emma is a travel consultant, also in Auckland. They are

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH AND PROMISE T H E CAD E T S In the name of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and in the presence of the officers, soldiers, and friends of The Salvation Army here assembled, we declare that we believe: 1. That the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice. 2. That there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship. 3. That there are three persons in the Godhead—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co–equal in power and glory.
4. That in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man. 5. That our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God. 6. That the Lord Jesus Christ has by His suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved. 7. That repentance towards God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, are necessary to salvation.
8. That we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself. 9. That continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ. 10. That it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 11. In the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.
T H E P R OM I SE The Chief Secretary Do you promise faithfully to maintain and proclaim these truths?
The Chief Secretary Do you promise by holy living, boundless charity and adherence to the principles and discipline of the Army to show yourselves at all times to be faithful officers of The Salvation Army?
The Cadets We do!
The Cadets We do!
The Chief Secretary Do you regard it as your duty to bear this witness everywhere, to strive to lead all persons to their only savior, and for His sake to care for the poor, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, love the unloved, and befriend those who have no friends?
The Chief Secretary In the name of God I accept the declarations and promises you have made this day. We will now proceed to your commissioning and ordination.
The Cadets We do! The officer is offered up to the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit by the intercession of the faithful in Christ. The officer declares by the signing of the covenant and by the commissioning that he or she will be loyal to scriptural truth and, by example in life, word and unsparing service, be true to his or her calling as Christ’s messenger. 27

“KING OF KINGS, MAJESTY”
“HERE AM I, MY LORD, SEND ME”
1. King of kings, Majesty, God of Heaven living in me. Gentle Savior, closest friend, Strong deliverer, beginning and end: All within me falls at Your throne.
1. Dear Lord, I do surrender Myself, my all, to Thee; My time, my store, my talents, So long withheld by me. I've heard the call for workers, The world's great need I see, O send me to the rescue, I'm here, my Lord, send me!
Song #376/722
Song #580/235
Your majesty, I can but bow; I lay my all before You now. In royal robes I don’t deserve. I live to serve Your majesty.
Here am I, my Lord, send me, Here am I, my Lord, send me, I surrender all to obey Thy call, Here am I, my Lord, send me.
2. Earth and Heaven worship You, Love eternal, faithful and true, Who bought the nations, ransomed souls, Brought this sinner near to Your throne: All within me cries out in praise.
2. Too long at ease in Zion I've been content to dwell, While multitudes are dying And sinking into Hell. I can no more be careless And say there's naught to do, The fields are white to harvest And laborers are few.
Jarrod Cooper
3. O hear, Thou God of Heaven, The vows that now I make! To Thee my life is given, 'Tis for the lost world's sake. To serve Thee I am ready, Though friends and foes despise, I now present my body A living sacrifice. William Walker (1871–1899)

“ IN J ES US ’ NAME”
Hallelujah Chorus 198 1. In Jesus’ name we’ve gathered here, We’ve come to worship our Lord. We stand as one, for we’ve become A fam’ly bound by His word; We lift our hands in joyous praise, United in this refrain. We’ve found the source for all we need In Jesus’ name. 2. In Jesus’ name I stand redeemed, A miracle of His grace. In Jesus’ name I’ve been made clean, For He has stood in my place. And all my sin He took away, I will never be the same. I’ve found the source for all I need In Jesus’ name. 3. In Jesus’ name we go from here To tell the world of His love. In Jesus’ name we go to serve, To share His gifts from above. And as we go we have no fear, For all He’s promised we can claim. We’ve found the source for all we need In Jesus’ name. Randy Vader

“BE GLAD IN THE LORD AND REJOICE” Song #486/431
1. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, All ye that are upright in heart; And ye that have made Him your choice, Bid sadness and sorrow depart. Rejoice, rejoice! Be glad in the Lord and rejoice! Rejoice, rejoice! Be glad in the Lord and rejoice! 2. What though in the conflict for right Your enemies almost prevail, God's armies, just hid from your sight, Are more than the foes which assail. 3. Though darkness surround you by day, Your sky by the night be o'ercast, Let nothing your spirit dismay, But trust till the danger is past. 4. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, His praises proclaiming in song; Acclaim Him with trumpet and voice, The loud hallelujahs prolong. Mary Elizabeth Servoss (1849–1906)

“PRAISE, MY SOUL, THE KING OF HEAVEN”
“WE ARE WITNESSES FOR JESUS”
1. Praise, my soul, the king of Heaven, To His feet Thy tribute bring; Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, Who like Thee His praise should sing? Praise Him! Praise the everlasting King.
1. We are witnesses for Jesus In the haunts of sin and shame, In the underworld of sorrow Where men seldom hear His name; For to bind the brokenhearted And their liberty proclaim, We are witnesses for Jesus In the haunts of sin and shame.
Song #55/406
Song #937/386
2. Praise Him for His grace and favor To our fathers in distress; Praise Him still the same as ever, Slow to chide and swift to bless; Praise Him! Glorious in His faithfulness.
Tell the world, O tell the world! Make salvation's story heard; In the highways, in the byways, And in lands beyond the sea, Do some witnessing for Jesus Wheresoever you may be.
3. Fatherlike He tends and spares us; Well our feeble frame He knows, In His hands He gently bears us, Rescues us from all our foes. Praise Him! Widely as His mercy flows.
2. We are witnesses for Jesus In the lands beyond the sea, Where the millions bound by evil Have no hope of liberty; As we tell the gospel tidings, Lo! the captives are set free; We are witnesses for Jesus In the lands beyond the sea.
4. Angels in the heights adore Him, Ye behold Him face to face; Sun and moon bow down before Him: Dwellers all in time and space, Praise Him! Praise with us the God of grace.
3. We are witnesses for Jesus In the home and in the mart, Where the cares of life and fashion Crowd the Savior from the heart; When we urge His claims with wisdom Many choose the better part; We are witnesses for Jesus In the home and in the mart.

“ALL HAIL THE POWER”
“O CHURCH, ARISE”
1. All hail the pow’r of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem And crown Him Lord of all! Bring forth the royal diadem And crown Him Lord of all!
1. O Church, arise, and put your armor on; Hear the call of Christ our Captain. For now the weak can say that they are strong, In the strength that God has given. With shield of faith and belt of truth, We’ll stand against the devil’s lies; An army bold, whose battle cry is Love, Reaching out to those in darkness.
Hallelujah Chorus 141
Hallelujah Chorus 202
2. Let ev’ry kindred, ev’ry tribe, All nations great and small, To Him all majesty ascribe, And crown Him Lord of all! To Him all majesty ascribe, And crown Him Lord of all!
2. Our call to war, to love the captive soul, But to rage against the captor; And with the sword that makes the wounded whole, We will fight with faith and valor. When faced with trials on ev’ry side, We know the outcome is secure. And Christ will have the prize for which He died, An inheritance of nations.
3. Ye sinners lost of Adam’s race, Partakers of the fall, Come and be saved by Jesus’ grace, And crown Him Lord of all! Come and be saved by Jesus’ grace, And crown Him Lord of all!
3. Come see the cross, where love and mercy meet, As the Son of God is stricken; Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet, For the Conqueror has risen. And as the stone is rolled away And Christ emerges from the grave, This vict’ry march continues till the day Ev’ry eye and heart shall see Him.
4. O that with yonder sacred throng We at His feet may fall, Join in the everlasting song, And crown Him Lord of all! Join in the everlasting song, And crown Him Lord of all!
4. So Spirit, come, put strength in ev’ry stride, Give grace for ev’ry hurdle; That we may run with faith, to win the prize Of a servant, good and faithful. As saints of old still line the way, Retelling triumphs of His grace, We hear their calls, and hunger for the day When, with Christ, we stand in glory.

“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY”
"MIGHTY TO SAVE"
1. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning Our songs shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy, Merciful and mighty, God in Three persons, Blessed Trinity!
1. Ev’ryone needs compassion, Love that's never failing Let mercy fall on me. Ev’ryone needs forgiveness The kindness of a Savior, The hope of nations.
Hallelujah Chorus 93
Savior, He can move the mountains; My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save. Forever Author of salvation, He rose and conquered the grave; Jesus conquered the grave.
2. Holy, holy, holy, all the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns Around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim, Falling down before Thee, Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be!
2. So take me as You find me, All my fears and failures; Fill my life again. I give my life to follow Ev’rything I believe in. Now I surrender, yes, I surrender.
3. Holy, holy, holy; though the darkness hide Thee, Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see, Only Thou art holy, There is none beside Thee; Perfect in pow’r, in love and purity!
Shine your light and let the whole world see We're singing For the glory of the risen King Jesus! Shine your light and let the whole world see We're singing For the glory of the risen King.
4. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy name In earth and sky and sea; Holy, holy, holy, Merciful and mighty, God in Three persons, Blessèd Trinity!

“OUR GOD”
“SEND THE FIRE”
Water You turned into wine, Opened the eyes of the blind. There's no one like You, None like You.
1. O, Jesus Christ of burning, cleansing flame, Your precious blood-bought gift today we claim, Look down and see this waiting host, Send us the promised Holy Ghost, Oh, how we long to see another Pentecost.
Hallelujah Chorus 215
Into the darkness You shine, Out of the ashes we rise. There's no one like You, None like You.
Send the fire. Send the fire, O Lord. Send the fire. Send the fire, O Lord. To magnify Your name, to never be the same We need Your Holy flame; Send the fire.
Our God is greater, Our God is stronger. God You are higher than any other. Our God is healer, Awesome in power our God, our God.
2. God of Elijah hear our Spirit’s cry: To make us fit for You to live or die. To burn up ev’ry trace of sin, To bring the light and glory in, Oh, let the glorious revolution now begin.
And if our God is for us, Then who could ever stop us? And if our God is with us, Then what could stand against? And if our God is for us, Then who could ever stop us? And if our God is with us, Then what could stand against? (Then) what could stand against?
3. Lord it’s just You we want, just You we plead. And by Your grace You meet our ev’ry need. Strengthen our hearts to do what’s right; Strengthen our faith to win the fight; Lord, let Your power flow to walk the world in white. 4. Now make our fragile hearts both strong and brave. Send us into a dying world to save. See us upon Your altar lay All of our lives this very day. Send down the fire to crown our off’ring now we pray.

“CROWN HIM WITH MANY CROWNS”
“ONWARD, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS”
1. Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne; Hark! how the heav’nly anthem drowns All music but its own! Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King Through all eternity.
1. Onward, Christian soldiers, Marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus Going on before! Christ, the royal Master, Leads against the foe; Forward into battle See His banners go.
2. Crown Him the Lord of life! Who triumphed o’er the grave; And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save. His glories now we sing Who died, and rose on high, Who died eternal life to bring, And lives, that death may die.
Onward, Christian soldiers, Marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus Going on before!
Hallelujah Chorus 241
Hallelujah Chorus 181
2. At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee; On then, Christian soldiers, On to victory! Hell’s foundations quiver At the shout of praise; Brothers, lift your voices, Loud your anthems raise.
3. Crown Him the Lord of peace! Whose pow’r a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease And all be prayer and praise; His reign shall know no end, And round His pierced feet Fair flow’rs of Paradise extend Their fragrance ever sweet.
3. Like a mighty army Moves the Church of God; Brothers, we are treading Where the saints have trod. We are not divided, All one body we, One in hope, in doctrine, One in charity.
4. Crown Him the Lord of love! Behold His hands and side. Those wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified; All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me; Thy praise and glory shall not fail Throughout eternity.
4. Onward then, ye people! Join our happy throng, Blend with ours your voices In the triumph song. Glory, laud and honor Unto Christ the King, This through countless ages Men and angels sing.
