Context As if Brazilians needed any more headaches over problems as the country prepares next year to host the largest sporting event in the world. The Confederations Cup, which was won by Brazil, angered citizens who are upset with billions of dollars spent on the tournaments while they endure underfunded schools and hospitals as well as living conditions. The government are employing police to mark peoples homes, which are then getting demolished in order to make room for some of the newly built stadiums for the 2014 World Cup. An area that includes some of its hillside favelas, where more than 1.4 million of the cityʼs 6 million residents live. No favela can claim greater historical importance than Rioʼs first — Morro da Providência — yet Olympic and World Cup construction projects are threatening its future.
Brief A Campaign to raise awareness of the current problems in Rio De Janeiro relating to the social economy and living standards. The Campaign will be on the back of ongoing and growing national protests over social and economic conditions in the country and will be aimed primarily at the government as well as people who live in Rio De Janeiro to encourage a ʻpeaceful protestʼ. The Protest wil be based around a major public event and will be worldwide.
Preparation/Research suggestions Research deeper into the current problems happening in Rio De Janerio. Find out a worthwhile cause or concept which can connect with millions of people in one place. Research a way in which we can get our message across. Can we tie our campaign to a massive event? Maybe the World Cup? Maybe the Olympics?
