Context XL Recordings are a British Independent Music label, housing notable artists such as Adele, The White Stripes, Radiohead, Dizzee Rascal, Jai Paul, Drake and even The Beatles. 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the inception of XL Recordings. To celebrate this XL have set a brief for D&AD New Blood to celebrate significant event(s) from the history of XL. Celebrate the artist and highlight their seminal moments in a way that engages your audience. Consider bridging the gap and focusing your attention on both digital, or print. Deliverables can be print, digital, or a combination of both. Brief Produce a 60 second moving video celebrating landmark moments in the history of XL Recordings. Focusing on the energy of the music and the individuality of each artist and seminal event, from huge success in Adele’s Oscar win, to controversy around The Prodigy, to sad circumstances such as the passing of the legendary Gil Scott-Heron. Each artist defined and influenced cultures around them and the years they dropped the music in, which innately have unique aesthetics and cultural particularities. Consider referential imagery from each individual music video and the year/decade they released in, in the aim of producing an instantly enjoyable, recognisable and celebration of XL 25. Preparation/Research suggestions Consider project management and planning of all props material, timelines of development and external influences, which can alter the project. Research into existing moving adverts, which align with your own ambitions in terms of tone and execution. Consider referential imagery from each individual music video and the year/decade they released in, in the aim of producing an instantly enjoyable, recognisable and celebration of XL 25. Aim for a solution that is achievable and realistic to it’s full potential, taking into account your own skills and resources/skills you can acquire. Evidence – for this project students should submit XL 25 Moving Video. Development video. Poster Submission. On-going blogging. Submission Design Boards. Evidence of D&AD application.
