WELCOME TO SAGE MAGAZINE ISSUE 11 Namaste soul travellers...issue 11 of Sage Magazine has arrived and with it comes an energy that is earthed and sacred, shrouded within the wisdom of all forms. From the red dirt of the Australian Outback where Tanya Allison shared sacred ceremony with the indigenous culture, to the wilderness of Alaska with Lucille Dancingwind communing with Gaia, this issue is overflowing with the Divine that can be seen in all we do. A special mention to the Conscious Travel team, Scott Podmore, Cheryl Slater, Lara McKinley & in particular Jo Podlesak for a first hand trekking experience in Afghanistan. On the music front, we are honoured to the sacred sounds of Deva Premal & Miten, the ever changing tones of Steve Gold and finally Simrit with her new sound that encourages us to embrace an internal revolution so we may be the revolution in the world. Our cover artwork is called “The Ruff” by Steven Kenny and is part of our feature on the Garden of Fernal Delights, a travelling exhibition by the “Dreams and Divinities” Artist Collective. We welcome Michelle Lightworker who brings us wisdom from the Everyday Lightworker Bible, Kat Dawes who presents us with wisdom from the elders wrapped up in the Now, Bobbie Richardson who shows the wisdom of children, Deborah with the wisdom of the stars, Isiri with wisdom from within and Shayne Locke who brings us the most ancient of all wisdom, the power of the pyramids. On a final note, we are honoured to be hosting Jai-Jagdeesh in Australia during September as she weaves her magical kundalini sounds across the country. The tour visits Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Mullumbimby, and tickets are selling fast so be sure not to miss out. Visit Soul Traveller Radio for more information. Until Issue 12 when we celebrate a magickal milestone.....

The CLAIR SENsES which of the ”clair” senses are you? by tanya allison

SAGE magazine

defining your gifts... We all hold the potential to be clear (clair) and perfect channels of wisdom and grace. By understanding the ’clairs’ or senses used for intuiting messages, you are able to expand your awareness and purpose. You will resonate with one sense very strongly, but you will recognise that you align with all to a greater or lesser degree.

clairsentient – clear feeling You feel everything! You make all of your decisions based on how you ‘feel’ about them. You are able to immediately sense the true feelings of another (even if they are presenting you with a different story) and you can feel illness, happiness, hurt, hope and actually many emotional levels that are really all based upon love and the individual’s ability to receive it. You have deep empathy, you cannot move in crowds without feeling quite exhausted, unless you are deeply aware of your own personal empowerment and how to protect it. You struggle with the pains in another’s heart and must be careful to structure boundaries that allow another to have freedom on their journey. You must know that you cannot ‘fix’ but you can show faith and ‘hold space’ in their own ability to ‘fix’. There are many ways to wander the spiritual realms – as you feel the strength of spirit with you always. As a Clairsentient Being of light you came to work with the blue rays and the rose rays – you align with the true prayer of the Rosary, which is surrendering to the grace and blessings of our Divine Mother, trusting that the way shall always be shown and Divine outcomes will prevail. So it is important that you open to receive through ‘feeling’ your foundation (that makes you feel safe) and through anchoring in the Divine sun rays of Source energy (that also make you feel safe). You work well with blue Tourmaline (see meaning below) and you love the essence of the flowers and the flow of the waters. You feel charged by the ocean spirits and access wisdom with the creatures that

move through the cosmic seas of synchronicity and Divine will....e.g. the whales, turtles and dolphins. Surround yourself with beauty, daily ritual and all that feels sacred and speaks of the Divine. You like routine and structure in your spirit work and this is honoured deeply by your guidance and angelic guardians. You are protected through your positive thoughts and blessed by the way of your warrior heart – you are whole when you feel ‘felt’ by those around you. You speak with the language of “That feels good”, “Yes, I can feel that is true”, “I can feel good vibrations”. Blue Tourmaline – This can be used to activate your throat chakra and the third-eye, strengthening the skills associated with communication and psychic awareness. It assists you in relating to others in a loving manner and to live in harmony with your environment (people, places and things). The energy of Blue Tourmaline totally enhances your pathway to service and activates your expansion of knowledge in helping all to realise the true power of love.

clairaudience – clear hearing You ‘hear’ the call of the ancients, the Wise Ones. You sense the song in the winds and the sounds of nature in your heart. You open to knowledge through your ‘inner ear’, that is your strong, intuitive heart, ‘hearing’ the voice of spirit clearly. You need music to reassure, relax and radiate. You feel deep emotion by the sound of a simple song and a rhythmic beat that speaks of overcoming obstacles and pain. You need drumming and resonate totally with the crystal bowls and bells. You are able to ‘open’ through the sound of a bell or tuning fork – it instantly moves you to the higher dimensions and sacred dialogue. You find confirmation and affirmation for your life in music, in the sound of laughter or the gentle voices of loved ones. You use the language of “I hear you”, “That sounds good to me”, “I am making sound decisions”. You surrender easily to the chant of ‘Om’.

ISSUE 11

clairvoyance – clear seeing You ‘see’ beyond the illusion of what is, to what is known to be true. You live in two worlds, two dimensional planes, accessing information gifted to you through the energetic light Beings, who are more familiar to you than other worldly relationships. Some see spirit with their naked eye, others see with their third eye or mind’s eye, but how is irrelevant, it is the access to this information that is truly felt. You see the truth of illness held in an auric field as emotional dis-ease affecting the imprints of colour to your mind’s eye. Auric fields are your gateway to the knowledge of the angelic dimensions and you access with ease when your third eye is open. Do not discount your ability to make manifest what you can dream in your mind – imagination is your most powerful tool and breaks down the boundaries between worlds.

Lapis Lazuli (see meaning below) aligns perfectly with this gift of the senses. Chant and mantra are truly medicine for your soul and absolutely sacred to your spiritual development – you will ‘hear’ the frequencies of light communication and astral sounds inside your head, these frequencies form a knowing that you are able to translate. Your deep ability to hear the heart of Earth Mother aligns you with the White Buffalo – a very holy and sacred symbol, bringing great abundance through your ability to ‘listen’ to the wisdom of the ‘Wise Ones’ before you. Lapis Lazuli – This stone helps to create and maintain a powerful connection between the physical and all celestial dimensions. It protects you on your spiritual journey and enhances your natural intuitive knowingness. Lapis will aid in quietening your mind that you may “hear” the Divine guidance and messages with great clarity.

You can often become confused or overwhelmed and Amethyst (see meaning below) is your best source of protection provided by the mineral kingdom. You see through the eyes of the Tiger – tiger teaches you to trust your intuition, where ‘things are not always as they appear’, and with an emphasis on your feelings and emotions, tiger removes obstacles and will walk with you to give you courage in your domain or gift. As you go about quietly spreading your wings of love and service, you can assist those passing over to higher realms, and you can bring through great comfort to those needing reassurance from loved ones past, this is true mediumship. You use the language of “I see that now”, “You look different”, “You appear lighter”, or “I can see clearly now”. You sense as strongly as you see...trusting in the feeling of light to guide you amidst the shadows. Light is so important to you; you do not like to sleep in total darkness and resonate well with the sunrise, more than the sunset. You love the flames of a fire and feel the violet flames of St Germaine strongly if you so choose. All sacred

claircognizant

You can get easily frustrated when people seem ignorant to their own out-dated patterns and conditioning...you must walk with the value of patience and apply this discipline into all areas of your life.

Red Carnelian – This stone enhances concentration, courage and confidence. It carries the stories and the records of our planet, reflecting life energy and knowing into your body.

You love to journal, to write and ‘automatic writing’ is a gift you access with ease. You sometimes feel that you have a lot of information to download and your crown chakra may feel pressured when you need to release the energies available to you...know this sign.

All of the above are the strongest of the senses, but not totally the only way. Many people are empowered by scent, by touch and just generally because they maintain a constant Divine dialogue with the Divine Source of All That Just Is.

Red Carnelian (see meaning below) is a beautiful touch stone for you to feel a little more grounded on the planet. You are truly so sensitive to the information that is being ‘hidden’ on a large political and planetary scale.

Use all information as a guideline, perhaps you have your own intuitive knowledge to add and expand on what has been presented. It is possible to access messages just by paying attention to Earth Mother alone – she is always speaking to us, nurturing us and reminds us that all is energy and nothing is truly as it seems.

You are the ‘Einstein’ of the intuitive learning and you are very much ‘self-taught’ in many areas because you can easily access and channel all the information that you need to know. Meditation is a must for you daily, as you need to quieten your mind and move ‘it to the side’ that you remain a clear and perfect channel. You use the language of “I just know”, “I understand”, “I know your heart” and “I know you”.

journey into the artwork of dreams and divinities

Dreams and Divinities is an artist association which naturally manifested from the desire of Liba WS to bring community, ideas and beauty together. Liba orchestrates artists collaborations around a book theme and then the art from the book or from artists in the book is exhibited around the world accompanied by events offered to the community from the artist community. These series of books, exhibits and events offer the public a window into an emerging planetary movement of ‘Conscious Art’ , an eclectic group of artists, writers, musicians and performers, each with their own unique dream of this experience, yet united through artistic collaboration and community. At the heart of it, the projects always have the quest and expression of Universal Love as a central unifying theme.

SAGE magazine

The Garden of Fernal Delights is a sublime and paradisiacal place where all the delights of the natural world from the sexual to the surreal, the visionary to the instinctive, are celebrated as fundamental joys of being alive. The Garden is a multi-dimensional place where all is conscious and divinely intelligent from the animal to mineral to vegetable to the etheric. All can communicate, co-create, cooperate. This Garden of Delights knows no violence, no notion of original sin, no hierarchy, no fixed temporal system. Rather it is a place of magic, of play and playfulness. It resides in the Garden of the heart and has no limit to its creativity. (according to Liba WS, Gromyko Semper and Bruce Rimell) The Fernal concept was conceived by artist Gromyko Semper as a lush and verdant antithesis to the Infernal. His developing universe evoked the image of a contemporary ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’ (by the 16th century Flemish painter Hieronymus Bosch). As Gromyko revealed his concept, we both came to realize how many of our contemporaries were naturally Fernal. Whether lowbrow, visionary, surrealist, outsider, fantastic, or magic realists, the Fernal universe was already being expressed through fantastic landscapes and botany, surreal species and architecture, magically divine symbolism. It was so rich that I proposed to catalogue this co-created Fernal universe in an Encyclopedia for Dreams & Divinities. Gromyko and I looked at hundreds of pieces of work and proposals and picked the most Fernal pieces we could find. Some artists made pieces specifically for the book.

THE EVENT

Bruce Rimell rapidly found his way into the core of our Fernal fantasy. We became three to brainstorm, invent stories together and develop a foundation for the Garden. Bruce even developed a working Fernal language and translated all the titles and chapter introductions. An explanation of the language is found at the end in the chapter W for Words. Twenty-one different artists did the illuminated letters. Gromyko Semper did the borders, and Michael Hutter did the illustrations for the cover. Many artists contributed text or worked with me to develop a text. Many gave Bruce and I carte blanche to write what we wanted. We are 114 artists to contribute art and writing including Ernst Fuchs, Martin Wittfooth, Martina Hoffmann, Alex Grey, Madeline Von Foerster, Amanda Sage, Carrie Ann Baade & an eclectic community of Internationally acclaimed artists. Delvin Solkinson, editor of CoSM journal of visionary culture, has helped Bruce and I edit proof the book. Otto Rapp, with his wonderful gift of networking, associated our project with his site ‘Visionary Art Gallery’ bringing a large scale community of artists together. Artists from around the world came to gather in San Francisco on the 29th of May to celebrate an event pack weekend to launch of The Garden of Fernal Delights. The first evening was held at Space 1970 and hosted by Holofonic Sound – Mission Control, the company of video projectionist extraordinaire, Ben Stokes. A Costume Ball brought out the Fernal in all, and satyrs, winged creatures and whirlpools came together to make merry. The night was launched with a heartfelt flute solo from Linda Michelle Hardy. The performer Three had the crowd howling with his fun and fantastical rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Nothing tells the story better than this little phone video: Video jockey Ben Stokes created a wonderland through his video projections and against the magical backdrop, the agile Honey Bubbah wowed us all by folding and unfolding seamlessly into impossible shapes. Featherpistol then made her graceful body into a rigid acrobatic machine, defying anatomy as she posed perpendicular to her pole with an ease that impressed us all. The Foxglove Sweethearts , belly danced for the crowd in front of large scale projections of images from the Encyclopaedia - painting, titillating video projections from Ben Stokes and groovin music from DJ Mophono.

THE LAUNCH

When all the watching was done, people converged on the dancefloor to groove to the rhythm of Dj Mophono with a sophisticated pasychadelic video loop from Ben Ridgway. Parallel to this, live painting was taking place with Mark Henson, Aloria Weaver and David Heskin, Ka, Kathi Stutler and Jake Kobrin. The following day, both the Encyclopedia and Fernal travelling Show was launched at Bash Contemporary Gallery. Artists Liba WS, Carrie Ann Baade, Amanda Sage, Aloria Weaver, David Heskin, Kathi Stutler, Mike Davis, Bruce Rimell, John Vochatzer and Magi Calhoun from the book were present for signing. The reception overflowed onto the street and all were happier from the Fernal Celebration. The last day of the launch was held at Bash. Bruce Rimell gave a presentation on his created language Fernalese including a little film on the Fernal Genesis. To see the video: http://www.visionaryartexhibition.com/dreams-divinities-blog/afer-a-fernalese-film-by-bruce-rimell Professor Carrie Ann Baade gave a timely presentation on the return of narrative arts. Beauty in art has been usurped by conceptual silliness for too long. Painting should no longer be a bad word. Symbolism and Narrative art do not need to be reduced to kitsch and illustrative. She spoke of the growing movement of art which is steeped in beauty and meaning.

surrendering to change simrit discusses her new album ”from the ancient storm” and the revolution of change with insider edition’s shayne locke

ISSUE 11

SAGE magazine

With two albums in two years, two weeks at number 1 on iTunes World Charts, two weeks in the Top 20 Triple A Radio downloads, a feature artist on Noisetrade and support from one of music’s 80’s and 90’s icons, Belinda Carlisle, Simrit is showing the conscious music community that a balance between traditional Kundalini Yoga-based Kirtan and the world mainstream music can be achieved to the satisfaction and appreciation of both audiences.

With the release of the new album “From the Ancient Storm” and the new single “All of Myself”, Shayne Locke of “The Insider Edition” caught up with Simrit to discuss her journey of change.

Attracting the attention of Belinda Carlisle, Simrit has performed on stage with the ex-Gogo’s lead singer, collaborated with Belinda on the self-titled Simrit album of 2014, has contributed to Belinda’s forthcoming 2016 album and is planning a series of joint concerts.

Insider: I would like to start with the fact that a few things have happened over the last couple of years to bring you to where you are now and this incredible new album. On my ipod I have two of you...Simrit Kaur who sings very distinct yoga music and Simrit who has a touch of Americana and a hint of REM. Was there a big shift you went through?

In fact Belinda Carlisle has been quoted as saying, “The first time I saw her live I thought – wow she’s kind of punk rock. Her sense of melody is different from a lot of the other chant artists and her energy and musicality set her apart. Simrit, to me, is the voice of this new day and age.”

Insider: Welcome Simrit, how are you? Simrit: I am great Shayne, thanks so much for having me today.

Simrit: There was a huge shift. It is so cool to hear you reflect on this because when you are in it, when you are growing as a person and growing through life, you don’t necessarily realise other people can see it...

ISSUE 11

I went through a huge change. The first two albums I did, the first one especially, I was figuring out my footing. Even though the music is very authentic to me and I love some of the Indian sounds... something started to happen around the second album where I realised I want to just be me. The first album was me but as we grow and develop in the world as ourselves our artwork reflects that. I really wanted to do the music that I wanted to do. I produced the first album but I wanted to do some other stuff and really dive into myself. The second album was the start of that but I didn’t really dig in until the third album. That’s when I really got comfortable being Simrit. Insider: There were some elements of change happening on the Oracle Sessions though. There was a sense that something was going on, we just didn’t quite know what it was. Simrit: Totally! Something was going on. On the Oracle Sessions I was working with a crew of people I didn’t quite resonate with, not just on the album but in life. I was going through life hearing things about me...that I dress this way...that I should act this way...that I should sing this way...that I should chant mantras this way...and I never resonated with it. On the Oracle Sessions there were compromises. I felt I needed to take one for the team. It was an important lesson for me in learning to be comfortable in my skin and being ok with who I really am.

I was Generation X growing up. We are the generation that see through all the BS, and we don’t want any of that, we don’t want the facade. We want the authentic real version of who I am...who he is... who she is...that is what we want...that is what we crave. Insider: You mentioned Bob Marley, who else did you listen to growing up as a kid? Simrit: I listened to a lot of greek music, a lot of Nana Mouskouri but also a lot of Bob Marley, Grateful Dead, Led Zepplin, Mazzy Star, a lot of African and Indian music, Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos... wow Insider: You can definitely hear the Tori Amos influence but more so the Jeff Buckley sound. He was one of the greatest singer songwriters of our time so even to channel 10 percent of Jeff Buckley would be amazing.. so that is a brilliant influence to have! Simrit: He is...Shayne I used to sit up at night and watch Youtube videos of him and cry. I was so into him. I get him and I feel like he gets people. Insider: I want to go back into the past, the first album of the transition, which was simply called Simrit...and in particular the song Revolution which was a representation of everything that had happened and that complete change.

Simrit: That song is exactly about that, an inner revolution as well as encompassing the outer revolution. I was so focused before on what was going on outside and how I could fix it. Even though Insider: And you have done a beautiful job with that. I new intellectually that you have to change the In doing so there has been this massive shift. So I internal environment first...some sort of revolution have to ask the question, mother, singer, rebel, punk inside before you could change what was going on rocker...I love the photo with you in this pure white outside...I had a very strong message that I tried to dress and you have these red doc martins. It was deny for about a year that I needed to make some like the hidden punk rocker. Has the punk rocker changes in my life and I was really scared to make been waiting to come out? this change. Simrit: For sure. I have always been like that my whole life. Bob Marley has always been a strong teacher in my life. So much wisdom came through his music. He is such a teacher on being in the vibe. That is what life is all about to me. That is who Simrit is. Not concerned about what other people think. Just being who we are. Some people call me a rebel but I am a soul rebel. Being who I am and that is being a rebel.

What I felt was, “If I make this change, really listen to my heart and what I really need to do then I am taking myself out on a limb. I might fall. I don’t know if there is anything there to catch me”. It took a lot of courage to believe in myself...(that is what the song is about)...and experience the fruit of that decision. It was scary for me but I feel I have paved the way for others to see that its ok...that what you see inside is the right thing for you.

Insider: Is your new single then really an extension from the single from your first album Revolution? How are they linked? Simrit: So “Revolution” was talking about the internal revolution, the internal change that is necessary for outer revolution to even exist. From that comes “All Of Myself” which is about being able to surrender into my heart, surrender into all those feelings of love and just sitting in that. Giving all of myself to every aspect of my life. Being able to do that because I experienced that inner revolution.

Insider: You have taken what people would call massive risks with these two albums but you wouldn’t call them that right? Simrit: No it’s natural to me. This is the kind of music I like to listen to. I put out albums I would like to hear, that I would sit down and listen to myself. This is living breathing art. The songs don’t die or go away. They are out there forever so I have to be really true to myself otherwise I would cringe everytime I hear them. Insider: Well we look forward to seeing more of the Simrit story unfold and definitely looking forward to what is coming next. Thanks for joining us “The Insider Edition”, Simrit. Simrit: You’re welcome thanks for having me.

mantra music superstars deva premal & miten discuss their new terrain in an interview with the insider edition’s shayne locke

rediscovering the ROOTS

With 17 albums under their belts and fans the world over, it’s safe to say that Deva Premal & Miten have found a formula for success. But their latest album is anything but formulaic. On “Songs for the Sangha,” they marry ancient Sanskrit mantras with spiritually inspired English lyrics – a first for the mantra music superstars.

was something more to life than just getting a job and finding a career. The first thing I did after finishing school was go to the ashram and live there for a few years. I was really drawn to healing modalities and bodywork, and there were a lot of trainings in different healing modalities in the ashram. Now I see in hindsight that it was the healing path that I was so attracted to because I feel that’s what’s happening “We tried to put some songs in with the mantras [in the now with the music and mantras: it’s healing on a past], but it just didn’t feel right,” Miten said in a recent sound level and actually on a vaster scale because interview on Soul Traveller Radio’s “The Insider more people benefit from it. It was so normal to me that I didn’t even realize how powerful it is. It is the oldest prayer known to humanity, and for me, it was just always around. INSIDER EDITION: There are so many different versions of the “Gayatri Mantra,” however your version is the one that prompted a phone call from Cher, who said she loved it so much that she wanted to use it in her Las Vegas concert.

DEVA PREMAL: We actually recorded it in Australia in our rented house, not in a studio. We just turned the living room into a studio. It felt so homely and absolutely not sterile. It was not like, “we’re going to go into the studio and shut everything out.” It was more like, “we bring everyone, we invite everybody,” including all the creatures that we were surrounded by – birds, insects, cows. That’s what makes it feel so communal, and that’s why I think the title is so fitting.

MITEN: I think we wouldn’t have done it if it hadn’t been for Joby because he had a vision, and it was so clear and so strong. The base of the spine has this swampy, funky, reggae-ish kind of vibe to it. If you listen to the snare drum, it’s so thick and so fat, it’s like something from the 1970s. Soul Traveller Radio ARTIST SPOTLIGHT VEXE´- riding the new wave

If there is anything that can be said of Steve Gold, it is that he is the definition of change. From the surf folk sounds of ”So Much Magnificence” to the roots based ”Let Your Heart be Known” and then the floating sounds of ”Golden Om”. It shouldn’t surprise us to hear a new sound that has found its way back to the 80’s and the days of the new wave. Together with producer Cmath, the new band/album, Vexe’ is a delight to listen to. There is something refreshingly brilliant in the retro sound created here, which includes the first time Steve Gold has fully used falsetto. The latest single Euro is a subtle nod to the great new wave bands like Joy Division/New Order and Duran Duran, with a sound that could easily find its way to any underground club both then and now. The Insider Edition will be catching up with Steve and Cmath next issue for the whole story. Until then register for the album release on August 14 by visiting vexemusic.bandcamp.com.

”In 2000, I deliberately chose to play music in the yoga world so that my message and music could be more attentively heard, and also so that I could practice what I had been learning about spirituality. I see my time in the “conscious music world” as an attempt to walk the talk. Then I realized that I don t need to be in the yoga world to achieve anything spiritual. The work is all around me, off the mat, out of the yoga studio, at home with my family and my kids. My music is an expression of my spirit and I can’t be pegged into one genre. I am steeped in pop music. I grew up listening to Joy Division, U2 and Led Zeppelin. I collaborated with Malcolm McLaren in the 80’s, and those influences are my inspiration for this record. Only spirit guides inspirations, not the mind. My music does not have to be labeled conscious to be spiritual. Music and art are spiritual practice in and of themselves. Singing is my meditation, and it remains so in the mainstream alternative rock genre that Vexe’ falls into.” Steve Gold

As we focus on the solution, we ignite the light within ourselves. So, as a force, wouldn’t it be great for us to collectively change our vision to that which only sees problems as prompts for enlightenment? Imagine the transformative light of a collective force!

When we see people in their darkness as shepherds calling us home to the truth, we empower ourselves. We need to learn to change our vision and see that no one, no thing, and no event has the power to disempower us. Until we learn this lesson, we have not mastered empowerment. When we are empowered in this way, we are also holding a very high vibrational quality of love. We see everyone as equal. In doing so, we are not only enlightened; we are transformative. We are literally walking solutions. We then attract amazing solutions to us, and our lives work and flow more easily. We become powerful manifesters of resources that not only benefit our own lives but create miracles in others’ lives too. By changing our own vision, we ignite the light within us!

why raise our vibration?

Okay, so even if we get that we are all everyday Lightworkers, why would we want to raise our vibration? Well, the easy answer is that it is inevitable. For those of you who have seen the movie Lucy (spoiler alert), you know that she was given the opportunity to utilise 100 percent of her brain. At this point in history, we know that

When we raise our vibration, we raise the vibration of everything around us. Our higher vibration energetically affects everything. So, if this were the case, why wouldn’t we all want to raise our vibration? If we are indeed everywhere already, then the very nature of raising our vibration is more powerful than any other action in saving the planet. We are already connected to higher vibrations because we are already everywhere. It is only our free will alone that is standing between us and unlocking access to these higher vibrations. As we do so, our transformed vibration naturally extends out to others, and they receive the invitation to step up too. Essentially, we provide a mirror that awakens others to tap into their own infinite powerful source. If others do not want to transform, they will go on to learn as many lessons as they need to. The universe will provide many experiences until they feel motivated to make the change. Raising our vibration is inevitable, and we can choose the short or long way around. That’s our choice. Welcome to the light side!

how do we raise our vibration?

There are some basic things that you can apply to begin this transformation process. Firstly, become aware of and clear your energetic centres, which I explain

SAGE magazine

michelle lightworker - raising your vibration at length in my book, The Everyday Lightworker Bible. They hold the key to your undiscovered enlightenment. Secondly, understand and practise the twelve principles I’ve set out in my book. Each one holds a high vibrational quality guaranteed to provide maximum impact in your life. Thirdly, ask for spiritual guidance daily. Lastly, we need to make the decision that we are willing to embrace these new ideas. Once again, our free will comes first.

The principles propel me towards my Higher Self and a higher vibration. I unplug from toxic vibrations because I have turned my attention elsewhere. I’ve only really understood how powerful they are from resolving countless experiences in my life. Many times over I have been presented with situations that immerse me. Then after I apply a principle, a healing and inner peace occurs.

Willingness begins the transformation process. It happens a day at a time, a minute at a time, and a second at a time. Little bursts of willingness string themselves together to create what I call our “new normal.” Our feelings change. Our thought patterns change. Our behaviour changes. What we are attracted to changes. Our body changes. Our attitude towards our body and what it is here for changes. Before we know it, we are completely transformed.

I have also witnessed many of my students have this same experience. So when it came to writing my book, of course I had to include these principles. When we invest our time in practising the principles in everyday life, we end up with a basket full of abundance. The Twelve Principles are as follows:

why bother having a set of principles, anyway? A phenomenon occurred when I started to study the principles of Lightworker Practitioner Training. At first, they were interesting concepts. Then they became the way I live my life. Whenever I am feeling ungrounded or out of my depth, all I really need to do to find my way back is to have a look at the principles. It’s usually obvious which one I am disconnected to. This awareness assists me to bring my focus back to that which is within my control. When I have an awareness of a principle that I am not practising, it turns on a light bulb. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to take my power back.

1. Honesty 2. Open-mindedness 3. Willingness 4. Forgiveness 5. Unity 6. Discipline 7. Faith 8. Responsibility 9. Love 10. Wholeness 11. Joy 12. Peace The principles are not rocket science. However, they give us the rocket fuel that raises our vibration to a whole new level!

Michelle has counselled clients, educated Lightworkers, and written nine books, including the Lightworker Practitioner Training series and The Everyday Lightworker Bible, over the past fourteen years. Michelle is a Spirit Expert on SoulTV and is a dedicated advocate for the Lightworker within each and every human being and a real-life example of the imperfection she inspires us all to embrace. Miracle Mist Why Are We All So Magnesium Deficient? Few people are aware of the enormous role magnesium plays in our bodies. After oxygen, water, and food, magnesium can be considered the most important element because it is needed by every cell in the body including those of the brain and it regulates calcium, potassium, and sodium. Nature, in its wondrous intelligence made magnesium abundant in the food and water supply. So, why is 80 - 90% of the population deficient in magnesium? Water found in natural springs is nutrient rich but not many people are so fortunate as to have natural spring water readily available and must rely on heavily chemicalised processed water that is devoid of nutrients and key electrolytes such as magnesium. According to various studies, magnesium began its decline from our food supply in about the 1930’s due to chemical agricultural practices and the magnesium content in our soil is no longer sustaining. Dr. Norman Shealy MD, states that it has now become impossible to eat our way out of a magnesium deficiency and it is the most important nutrient to supplement. Magnesium plays an imperative role in hundreds of enzyme systems and functions related to reactions in cell metabolism, as well as being essential for the synthesis of proteins, for the utilization of fats and carbohydrates. Magnesium is needed not only for the production of specific detoxification enzymes but is also important for energy production related to cell detoxification. A magnesium deficiency can affect virtually every system of the body. Magnesium is known as nature’s great relaxer; not only for muscles and tissues but the entire central nervous system. Magnesium is vital to combat every day stress and when we are under significant stress; either physical or emotional our needs increase. Stress-related

diseases which run rampant through modern society, like heart attacks and high blood pressure, are indicative of magnesium deficiency. What is the best form of magnesium to supplement? Dr. Josling Watkins performed clinical trials showing that transdermal (absorption through the skin) magnesium provides optimal absorption. Dr. Shealy has shown that taking magnesium orally can take upwards of 18 months to correct a magnesium deficiency; whereas absorbing magnesium through the skin can correct a deficiency within as little as 4 weeks – this shows a very dramatic difference in absorbability. Relying on digestion for absorption of magnesium is challenging as often the form of magnesium used in supplements is not bio-available and most is lost in the digestive process. If you have any doubt about absorbing through the skin, just rub a cut clove of garlic on the soles of your feet and see how long it takes before you taste it!

ISSUE 11

The body must attach magnesium to a chloride ion in order to be utilized – therefore transdermal magnesium chloride is the optimal magnesium for peak performance. In addition transdermal magnesium can be applied directly to an area of pain to reduce pain and speed the healing of any damaged tissue. Why is transdermal magnesium so effective for pain? Transdermal magnesium increases circulation and flushes away inflammation (often people report a warming sensation on the skin). Increasing circulation will also draw nutrients into the area to speed repair. When we do not have enough magnesium in our system to absorb calcium into the bones, teeth, nails and hair, calcium becomes toxic and can crystallize. When unabsorbed calcium crystallizes in tissues it creates aches and pains; when it deposits in the joints it creates arthritic conditions or bone spurs; when it deposits in organs it creates stones, such as gall or kidney stones. Daily regular use can speed repair of

the underlying condition. Compressing for pain When there has been an injury or calcium deposit we have seen great success with compressing the area. Spray Miracle Mist onto a soft light gauze or cloth and wrap the area leaving it on to soak in for as long as possible. Compressing through the night is ideal and a sheet of plastic wrap can be used to protect the bedding from oily marks. The compress can be left to the open air when not in use and reapplied to the area repeatedly until the compress begins to dry out – then simply respray. Why do we believe Miracle Mist is the best choice? Miracle Mist is the purest magnesium chloride available from the Dead Sea which for hundreds of years is known for its healing properties. TREKKING AFGHANISTAN a whole ocean in one drop by jo podlesak

SAGE magazine

When Australian aid worker Jo Podlesak announced she was going trekking in Afghanistan, most people thought she was crazy. Worse, some thought she had an attention-seeking death wish, prompted by a difficult patch in her life. At the time, Jo struggled to explain why she—a newly single mum who had never done an overnight bushwalk— was compelled to walk the Afghan mountains. Jo just knew it was something she needed to do. In the end, she writes, ”it was as simple and as difficult as that...”

afghanistan and i have a history I was deployed to Afghanistan between 2002–2003. When I first arrived it was relatively safe. You could walk Kabul’s main shopping strip—Chicken Street— and sip tea with wizened carpet sellers. Women still wore burqas but at least they were outside, walking. I spent nine months at high altitude, working in the far north-eastern province of Badakhshan. I heard snatched conversations about the Wakhan corridor, a tiny finger of land that stretches between the towering Hindu Kush and Karakoram ranges to the south and the Pamir mountains to the north and China on its eastern tip. The nomads who lived there had witnessed Alexander the Great along the Silk Road. They were bypassed by the Soviets, the mujahedeen wars and had never been conquered by the Taliban. It’s possibly one of the most remote and forgotten places in Afghanistan.

Ten years later, I was in Pakistan. I had turned 40 and was struggling with single parenthood. My life felt unexpectedly derailed. Walking the hills with a friend I said I needed a good long walk, a time to clear the confused noise in my head; a pilgrimage of sorts. My friend said companies had started doing summer treks in the Wakhan Corridor. I remembered Badakhshan and the ranks of mountain ranges piling up at the horizon; a staircase of blues and purples climbing their way to the sky. My soul clicked. And I thought: yes.

preparations

I was not an experienced trekker. I had done some camping, but despite several years roughing it in refugee camps, I was mostly accustomed to the comforts of modern life.

No matter: I signed up with trekking company Secret I was intrigued, but never had the chance to visit. When Compass and borrowed gear. I lined up babysitting my contract ended in 2003 and the country spiraled and started marching with a heavy pack. I swam, I again into violence, I assumed I never would. cycled to work and hiked on weekends.

I pre-paid my bills and updated my will. I wrote a

ISSUE 11

photo © helen spencer farewell letter to my four-year-old daughter, just in case. That was hard. But I’d done my research; I was more likely to fall off a mountain or get crushed by a wayward yak than be subject to terrorism.

Yes, I did think: what have I let myself in for?

My trek was to be a round circuit, about 120km to cross the Little Pamir Valley into the Big Pamir Valley. The highest mountain pass was over 5000m.

The next few days were tough. We were hiking the Little Pamir Valley, heading for the Showr Pass, a 5,200m saddle between two 6,000m peaks and then to Big Pamir Valley. We walked 10–16 km a day and camped at nomadic settlements—which were little more than a windowless stone hut and a collection of transient yurts—each afternoon.

My parents worried.

trekking time

The next day I woke to a cacophony of donkeys and horses. My altitude headaches worse and it was cold, so cold. Over the past five days I had got to know my fellow trekkers, but I was nervous. I felt I was the least fit, the least experienced and was worried I’d hold them back, despite all my training. I still had no clear handle on why I had to do this. I had an arduous walk head of me: up and down mountains, unwashed and filthy, eating oily rice, beans and Pakistani tinned tuna of questionable origin. I would sleep in a coffin-like hiking tent in sub-zero temperatures and for 15 days, no prospect of alcohol or a shower. To settle our nerves we all did a spot of yoga, much to the amusement of our local crew. And then we set off, up a gentle, grassy slope that rapidly turned into a steep, rocky climb. Our first day and we had to make it over a 4,200m pass. It started to rain, cold and hard. I focused on the steaming hairy horse’s rump in front of me.

learning to endure

I’d pitch my little tent and make patchy attempts to speak Dari. My fingers were swollen and clumsy with cold. I tried to write in a journal, but it was altitudeaddled, my emotions strangely distant. I wrote about the cold, the rain, the driving snow and my sore knee. We met a little girl badly burned by a cooking fire. All we could offer was antibiotic cream. So far from medical care, it was likely she’d die from the infection. Occasionally I would marvel at the wildflowers and orange lichen, but mostly I just put one foot in front of the other, and spoke when I could. I felt disconnected from every day life, but not unhappily. Four days in and fatigue, altitude and bad weather started to take their toll. After successfully climbing a small 4,755m pass, I burst into tears and needed tending: chocolate, water and deep breaths. Curiously I began to feel more positive, but my body was at odds with my mind.

The night before the Showr Pass my nerves kicked in. We had to leave at 2am beat the sunrise snowmelt. I was missing my daughter and tentatively ate the sheep stew that had been generously provided for us. There were teeth and bits of jaw floating in it.

sunshine and summit

There are three photographs that capture Showr Pass for me. One eye-blinking shot as the sun bursts over craggy peaks some hours after we started walking; another shows our shadows lined up as we lumbered through thigh-high snowdrifts; and the last, a sun-drenched magical picture of all of us at the top, grinning stupidly, exhausted and ecstatic—our differences forgotten and our pains behind us. Maybe the medication was kicking in but finally, I felt I could breathe. On that magnificent day on the roof of the world, the sun finally made its appearance. My crumpled and sealed-up heart flooded with gratitude. It was a good thing too: it was a long climb down to next settlement. I arrived at camp fevered and shivering, sick with diarrhea. I took antibiotics and went to bed; my fever broke around midnight, I felt human again by 4am; the next day’s hike started at 5am.

the wakhi and the kyrgiz

Our time in the Little Pamir valley was spent with the Wakhi people. Ishmaili muslims, the women wear bright reds, pinks and oranges. Winters are spent in the valleys, nursing their sheep and goats through months of icy cold and snow. In summer, families move to alpine pastures to fatten their animals for market. Life expectancy is 37. Staples are bread, milk, yoghurt and krut, a hard cheese, made from sheep and goats’ milk. Meat is rare; animals are only slaughtered for ceremonial occasions. The people were friendly but shy. In the Big Pamir Valley, we crossed into Kyrgiz territory, a nomadic people with Asiatic features, possibly descended from Genghis Khan. The Kyrgiz seemed wealthier; I saw mobile phones and some yurts sported solar panels. One afternoon I washed my hair with women from our group. The Kyrgiz women laughed at our foreigner insanity, the water was icy cold with snowmelt. Somehow they explained once a week they’d bring

a large pot to the river and boil water for washing. We were invited to their yurts, and they warmed us with tea, yak cream, yogurt and some ubiquitous krut. Prettily decorated Kalashnikovs hung on the wall; the women wanted to take a photo of us, but did not allow us to take photos of them.

bzkashi in kyrgiz territory

After days of walking through a sparse and poor landscape, we came upon a richer more populated valley; a Bzkashi game was brewing. Bzkashi personifies feudal Afghanistan: a wild game with few rules and a loose concept of teams. The horses are cosseted and cherished, revered for their speed and agility. Bzkashi is like polo, but played with the headless carcass of a goat or sheep, which riders grab full gallop, sling over the pommel of their saddles and try to score a goal. Violently unseating your opponent is fair but shooting an opponent’s horse is not. Individual performance is rewarded with ribbons. Despite its brutality, Bzhashi is a disturbingly exciting game to watch, with displays of incredible horsemanship and strength. You just need to convince yourself the goat died quickly.

tired, with yak allergy

I was feeling stronger and fitter since the Showr Pass. Days of walking had hardened my body, but I was growing tired of the dirt, cold and my sore knee. There were still highlights: a picnic in a flower-dotted pasture and an encounter with a semi-wild family of camels. There were long conversations with my cotravelers, less strained and panting now. But things hurt. My cold, swollen fingers developed nasty blisters, which turned out to be a reaction to yak hair. I was bemused, only somewhat hysterical: on medical forms I could now answer ‘yak’ to any known allergies. On the second last day of hiking my knee pushed me to the limits of endurance. I walked down a steep scree slope in excruciating pain and quickly fell behind. My tour leader gave me a stick for steadiness and the story behind his limp for courage. In Nepal, he had been guiding a small group of climbers when he broke his leg. The climbers were keen to continue, so he

turned around on his own and took two days to reach help. Somehow I got down that slope. I collapsed in a heap at the grassy bottom; everyone kindly marveled at my yak blisters.

Perhaps we all need some time out, not so much to do, or discover, or achieve, but just to be, in this place and in this time and in the body and the mind we have.

the whole ocean in one drop

As we started the long descent on the last day, dropping as small as a drop in the ocean more than 1.6km in altitude, I fell into step behind the packhorses. My eyes were mesmerized by their The curious thing about long walks is you always swaying rumps, the swirling dust thrown up by their wonder is this ever going to end? I had nothing to say and nothing in particular to think about. Hours later Instead of finding myself, I became a toiling, we forded the rushing river at the end of the ravine. The insignificant speck on a vast and unloving plateau; 4WDs were waiting. endlessly trudging up and down barren slopes like some mindless alpine beetle. Two bumpy and dusty days later we left Afghanistan. The moon was a cold pale crescent as we sped away I stank. My unwashed hair stuck to my head in ugly on the Tajik side of the river. For many miles I could still clumps. The friends I’d made at the back of the walking see Afghanistan on the other side, until finally, tired, my pack had heard all my life stories and I, theirs. eyes closed. In landlocked, fierce and imposing Afghanistan, surrounded by the craggy peaks on the rooftop of the world, I felt I was as small as a drop in the ocean. It was not quite that bad. Actually, sometimes it was, but it was liberating to have simple tasks. Get up before sunrise. Pack up. Eat. Lace boots after treating blisters. Strap on pack. Walk. Ride horse. Giggle at yaks. Walk. Up. Down. Put layers on. Take them off. Eat protein bars. Drink tea. Walk. Ride. Walk. Arrive at camp. Pitch tent. Speak halting Dari. Tend to feet. Eat. Drink tea. Sleep.

I didn’t have an eye-blinking moment of crystalized understanding. That came many months later, and it was a stealthy kind of understanding. I found a quote, or it found me. I realised I was not then, nor now, a drop in the ocean. I was both then, and now, the whole ocean in one drop. The next Secret Compass trip to Afghanistan is in the northern summer, 2016.

2. the resort - amilla fushi, the maldives The Small Maldives Island Company has opened Amilla Fushi, the first of its two new island resorts in the Maldives earlier this year. The second island, a luxury beach club concept resort called Finolhu is scheduled to open mid-2016. Both are located in the UNESCO protected Baa Atoll and they are described as “nu-luxury at its finest’’. Amilla Fushi translates to ’’my island home’’ in Maldivian and while Amilla captures the heart and spirit of the Maldives, there is an enormous Australian influence with leading chef and long-term Maldives visitor, Luke Mangan, who is leading the way with food and beverage at both resorts as ’’island restaurateur’’. “We are a foam, gel and smear-free zone, thank goodness,’’ Mangan says. ’’We will have caviar and foie gras and truffles if people want them, but my goal is to deliver the opposite of overcomplicated and stuffy food. It’s all about fabulous fresh produce. We’re blessed with the local seafood. At Amilla, fishermen deliver straight from their boats to us and the lobster tank is actually in the ocean under our signature restaurant, Lonu. And we have what might just be the world’s best fish and chips at The Fish and Chip Shop with a sandy floor and looking out to sea.’’Amilla boasts many other notable features alongside Luke Mangan’s food including a 1200-metre pool, the largest in the Maldives. Javvu, Amilla’s quite extraordinary Spa, in the silent, verdant garden of the Wild Grove has no less than fifteen treatment rooms as well as yoga and fitness pavilions. 3. the nature - valley of fire, red rock canyon Conditions are hot in summer hitting beyond 110 farenheit on occasion, so load up on bottles of water before you escape the fast pace of the Strip in Las Vegas which quickly subsides once out on the highway as scenery smacks you in the senses. Copper-coloured mountains leap out from the desert floor highlighted by Red Rock Canyon’s bluffs, cliffs and petrified sandstone boulders. Time stands still is a cliché, but it’s not out here. These mountains were formed by geological forces including fractured faults where the earth’s crust collided over millions of years and fossilized sand dunes. Some cliffs reach a kilometre high. It really is breathtaking. The 20km round-trip tourist route at the actual site is a must-do. More www.travelnevada.com

4. the tour - o’connor’s green tours, nyc THERE are only two ways we should all explore New York City: by foot or by bike. O’Connor’s Green Tours have that covered with some of the best experiences one could expect in the Big Apple from walks including Central Park, the Financial District, a Chinatown Dim Sum Tour to an All-day Extravaganza. Bike tours are cool, too, and take in Lower Manhattan and Central Park. Being green means making the smallest carbon footprint possible, according to the O’Connor’s Green Tours team, and that’s why they offer walking tours, bike tours, rides in Central Park in both pedicabs and horse carriages, even rowboats. retreats for the eco-conscious traveller My summer tour of Europe to discover some of the best yoga, wellness and eco retreats continues with France and Portugal in this issue. There’s always a story and a vision behind the creation of a retreat centre, most often combining a dream, the intervention of fate or an unexplainable force, a connection with a place and the environment and the desire to change people lives, heal themselves and others and be part of a community that their native country didn’t quite fulfil, going back to basics, being conscious of their environment, taking care of Mother Earth, becoming sustainable and self-sufficient. I attended three retreats in total, one in the South of France and two in Portugal. I chose all of these retreats because their stories inspired me and I share a similar vision to create my own retreat centre in the future. They all offered an invitation to reconnect to nature and to oneself.

france 5-day yoga and wellness retreat at yobabaloves I started off this trip in Paris and travelled by train from Paris to Carcassone via Toulouse where my ride, the Yobaba love bus and my retreat host Gertrud, arrived

to take me to a retreat in the green rolling countryside of the South of France, to the Medieval village of Chalabre. I was here for a 5-day Yoga and Wellness retreat and it wholeheartedly was a retreat in every sense. My days consisted of eating, relaxing, meditating, deepening my yoga practice and self-pampering with oils and epson salts in the heavenly bath tub whilst gazing in awe out of the window at the stars. The retreats are hosted by the lovely duo Gertrud and Mangalo. Gertrud is the owner of the beautiful retreat house and had always had a childhood dream of living in or near the Pyrenees and found the property 10 years ago. Having never set up a retreat before, she started out by hosting events described as “wellness house parties” to help cover the costs of the upkeep of the house after the recommendation from a friend. She says she was not immediately drawn to the house itself but to the wild, expressive and neglected walled garden. She took on the renovation project and has totally transformed the property that once had 65 rooms, making her own natural paints and wall plasters and restoring the house to its former magnificence with an uncluttered, living and breathing space. Through a synchronistic series of events, Gertrud met Mangalo, who was our yoga and meditation teacher on the retreat. the sacred of uluru connecting to kanyini In June this year I joined a small group of soul travellers at Uluru and immersed myself into a week of true Earth Mother education; a time of unravelling and a time of opening to discover a very deep connection to the experience of “Kanyini” – the Aboriginal teachings of unconditional love. Upon arrival my senses were captivated by the richness of the red soil and I could not get my shoes off fast enough to sink them into this divine dirt that instantly grounded my spirit into the heart of this beautiful country; I felt the essence of ‘Palya’ (hello or welcome) flood my base chakra and anything less than this true moment in time was dissolved back to native nothingness. It appeared that the universe had orchestrated a synchronicity of epic proportion and blessed our visit with the presence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who for the first time travelled to Uluru to offer his respects to the Traditional Owners of the land, the Anangu people.

a spectacular fashion is a visual feast not to be missed. You feel humbled to witness the sheer beauty of this red global glow of warmth and soul acceptance by our mother (earth). Walking around the base of Uluru (approx. 10kms) supported by the ancient rock formations that soar hundreds of metres into the desert sky, delivers nature’s best lecture on the unique wildlife and terrain that hold the spirit of the Anangu people’s Tjukurpa – or creation stories. The rock comes alive as you trek to places like Kuniya Piti, Mutijulu Waterhole and Kantju gorge; listening to the stories of the ancestral beings that shaped this landscape as we know it today. The natural beauty of the rock and its surrounds totally captures your attention and you feel your awareness expanding with a deep respect for all life.

All the cultural landscapes of Uluru are spiritually significant and very sacred as they contain the creation stories that align with the knowledge of relationships and the meanings of the animal and In a very intimate setting he addressed the Yalara plant kingdoms; you will find the experience may community with his pearls of wisdom on the be emotional and activate unresolved issues that perspective of peace and shared that warmsit in your spirit...this is the blessing of the Tjukurpa heartedness is the source of happiness, that warm- (creation stories) available to all of us because the heartedness brings trust and compassion for our Anangu people have cared for their land in such neighbour and that by paying attention to our inner a protective way. Mutitjulu community, is Kata Tjuta, just west of Uluru. Kata Tjuta is a Pitjantjatjara Aboriginal tribe word meaning ’many heads’. The rich ochre coloured ‘domes’ or rock formations whisper to our soul as one of the many wonders of our world and walking through the amazing Valley of the Winds and into Walpa Gorge is a very humbling experience. Kata Tjuta is an incredibly sacred site for men in the Anangu Aboriginal culture and most of the legends surrounding this site are kept secret. I personally was gifted on this 7.5 km trek with a very valuable lesson on the sacredness of every single pebble, stone, branch, leaf and tree; it was as if the ancestors breathed into my spirit the language of the land and the respect required to appreciate the fullness of this geography. Through this deep cellular healing and teaching I paid attention to every step and was rewarded with the shape of love hearts everywhere I looked...I felt very supported on this journey.

pitjantjatjara

To further understand more of the Indigenous culture our group took a 4WD trip deep into the desert of the Pitjantjatjara Lands of Central Australia to Cave Hill. We were welcomed to this land by Margaret and Charlie, our Anangu hosts and traditional owners of the area, the sacred site of the Seven Sisters Tjukurpa (creation time). They are wholly responsible for preserving only that chapter of the Songline that falls within the boundaries

of their traditional homeland...this story has been maintained since the beginning of time...almost hard for us to digest this diligent education through so many generations. Before entering the cave, with possibly the most significant and visually magnificent cave paintings in Australia we were separated into groups, the men went in first with Charlie and afterwards the women entered with Margaret. As I can only speak of my time spent with Margaret, I will say that the teachings for all women walking this Earth were very felt by me on this chapter of the Songline and my spiritual knowledge of the Milky Way and the seven stars was strengthened. I felt very blessed to be given permission to have my photograph taken with Margaret on such sacred soil. We climbed to the top of the cave to truly admire a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding countryside, including Uluru 100kms away, Mount Conner and the imposing Musgrave Ranges. The entire centre of Ayers Rock is based around a ring road, with a large expanse of vegetation in the middle that holds a public viewing platform facing the rock – perfect for sunrise meditation and mantra. All types of accommodation are catered for; we settled in very comfortably at cabins within the Yulara Campground and all shops, galleries and free activities, were easily within walking distance although a free shuttle bus circulates every 20 minutes. I love that all staff within the Ayers Rock complex are under the umbrella of a fantastic Indigenous hospitality training program, their service and smiles were marvellous.

the heart of gaia This article of my time spent at Uluru would not be complete without a very personal expression of deep gratitude to Tenzin Choegyal who appeared before sunrise at the public viewing platform where I and a handful of others were waiting to receive the blessings of a new day. He very gently asked for our permission to sing and with his guitar began his song to the sunrise...this was a moment in my memory that will last a lifetime. My heart felt like a giant sponge; opening to absorb all the sacred signatures in this exquisite sound of love... my soul stretched to the sun and I wept tears of thankfulness for the heart of Gaia. HONOURING THE SACRED

honouring the sacred When I began writing this article, I felt an earthquake shake me and my chair as if a freight train briefly rumbled nearby. The timing made me smile with deep love for our beautiful Mother Earth. Alaska is a vast land of pristine wilderness that continuously shakes with our beloved planet’s ongoing internal adjustments (though most of the daily earthquakes are not felt at the surface). It’s a refuge for some of the last significant populations of wildlife that has been persecuted throughout the rest of its original North American range (including the wolf and even the bald eagle). So much of Nature is still beautifully untouched here. This land also speaks directly to the human heart and spirit with its majestic, rugged mountains and pure, high frequency. Many people have been called here by the spirit of the land, including myself. I had a vivid sleep dream recently that felt very significant. In this dream, I found myself in a community where every individual felt very dear to me. We were all deeply and consciously connected within our hearts as one with each other, Mother Earth, and all beings of Nature and Spirit. We lived from our hearts with aware minds.

SAGE magazine

At one point in this dream, we were all on a tropical sandy beach and formed a single side-by-side line, beginning with the women on the beach and the men continuing in the water. We did a ceremony for rain, and while we women held sacred space with chants, barefoot on the warm sand, the men danced barefoot to the spirit of Rain in the shallow, clear ocean. It was beautiful and Rain responded. Rain suddenly started to pour down from the clear blue sky, as the sun kept shining. It began raining over the farthest man in the ocean and moved along the line to bless each of us.

of it or not. Do you feel Mother Earth’s rhythmic pulse beating through your heart?... the purifying winds flowing through your lungs?...the radiant life-force igniting your spirit?...the cleansing rains rushing through your veins?...the nourishing soils sustaining your body’s structure?...the divinity of all life through your own? The miracle of life here on Earth is abundant with countless wonders, for it has its origins in divine love. It is sacred, as we are. We, as human beings, have received such a privilege and gift to be able to experience the divinity of life in all its forms that exist here.

I clearly felt the energy of Rainbow in this gentle rain and expressed my wholehearted love and appreciation. Yet, for so many of our human family, the miracles of life pass them by, mostly unnoticed. They feel numb, disconnected from Spirit, unrelated to Mother Earth and all who inhabit her. They’ve forgotten their divine origins and love has been replaced by fear in various forms. They’ve protectively closed their hearts to life, and therefore, to the love that unites us all.

ECO In The City scott podmore uncovers brisbane’s hidden eco-gem and shayne locke finds eco in the heart of melbourne

ISSUE 11

Village of Dreams Reckon you can handle a night in a Penthouse? How about one smack bang in the middle of a caravan holiday park with all the bells and whistles of a luxury pad, yet within the confines of the great outdoors and minus the expensive price-tag. SCOTT PODMORE discovers a gem in Brisbane, Australia. PICTURE this. You’re lounging about in your three bedroom, two-storey penthouse cabin. Your partner is buzzing about in the beautiful stainless still kitchen boasting stone benchtops and loads of space, before you start getting the sunscreen, shades and bathers ready for some chill time in the nearby resort pool cabana you’ve booked. Bedrooms are impeccably presented, towels delicately crafted by house staff into creatures on your bed that range from swans to turtles; bathrooms are fitted out with top-end materials; artwork adorns the walls...you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in an exclusive inner city property, perhaps in a casino, maybe meaning you’ll be forking out $800 to $1000 a night, right?....Wrong. We’re talking about Brisbane Holiday Village, a modern caravan park with all the mod-cons, extremely ecoconscious and giving you the best of both worlds in the suburb of Eight Mile Plains, only 15 minutes from the Queensland capital’s CBD. Want a laid-back communal barbecue experience outside or a more intimate dinner back in the Penthouse? Easy. Or would you prefer a breakfast, lunch or dinner in the Village’s onsite licensed restaurant? That can be arranged too. The best news is prices for the Penthouse cabin we experienced range from an incredibly affordable $280 to $350 a night, depending on the season, for a luxurious way to rest your head and explore the great outdoor features that come with such a style of holiday park. In a nutshell, it creates memories. “Yeah, we do create memories,” owner Ken Illich tells Conscious Travel Mag. “I think we’re really achieving that and that’s become a bit of a motto of ours – it’s a park that creates memories.”

SAGE MAGAZINE

VILLAGE OF DREAMS - ECO-GEm in BRISBANE Ken and his brother Geoff are vibrant fortysomething Gen X’ers who have owned and transformed the award-winning venue since 1987. “When it comes to our luxury cabins, I think we’re providing a superior level of accommodation for couples, families and groups, whether it be in the Penthouse cabins or the Cosmos or Vogues (the next tiers down, but no less sensational). “It’s the fittings: the attention to detail, the nicer lounges, high-end furnishings, the tables and chairs are quite trendy, the soft-close kitchen doors, mirrors illuminated in the bathrooms, night lights for the kids getting to bathroom, USB charging points...we’ve been very considerate and it’s all about the little touches. The bedding is even 5 star quality. For holiday parks, we’re setting the benchmark.” Illich isn’t wrong. Brisbane Holiday Village really is raising the bar and is being duly rewarded in more ways than one, including their all-important environmentally friendly approach and eco touches that sets it apart from the rest. They have a Green Star rating of 4.5 stars and in recent times achieved a Gold Gumnut Award, the highest level in the Caravan and Camping Industry Association of Australia.

To achieve a Gold Gumnut Award, Brisbane Holiday Village progressed through Bronze and Silver Gumnut Awards and completed formal training to implement a comprehensive environmental management plan. They successfully achieved goals in ten categories covering economic, social and environmental aspects. “It was important to both Geoff and I that we offer an eco-friendly environment to all of our visitors. Having a Gold Gumnut Award means that we are making every effort to preserve our park and it’s surrounds for future generations. The Gumnut Awards have assisted us in reducing our water and electricity costs, and we’ve done so much more.” According to statistics, water heating is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions from the average Australian home, with electric storage hot water systems accounting for around 23 per cent of household emissions (excluding the family car). At Brisbane Holiday Village, all of its electrical appliances are energy rated and they have installed solar hot water systems into about 90 per cent of the cabins as well as in their housekeeping and reception area which equates to conserving precious energy resources.

ISSUE 11

FACT BOX Where: Brisbane Holiday Village, 10 Holmead Road, Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane, Queensland in Australia. Why: Best of both worlds, a holiday village with wide open spaces, tennis courts, onsite restaurant, and sites for caravans and campers, and luxury accommodation with Penthouse, Cosmo and Vogue cabins. Close to the city. More: www.brisbaneholidayvillage.com.au or find them on Facebook. “We have insulation in most of our cabins which makes the winters a bit warmer and the summers cooler. This in turn lowers energy consumption. We have installed water saving devices throughout our park and most of our plants are drought resistant so they require little water which helps to reduce our water consumption. We also have a bore and various water tanks around the village utilised to irrigate all the gardens.”

“We often have big groups of families who spend an hour or two down there. We also have a scooter/bike track to help get the kids off the streets, we’re always doing things,” Illich says.

Caravan parks have quickly evolved into something very different from what they used to be in Australia and, indeed, around the world. Especially Brisbane Holiday Village, with more demand for high-end accommodation to cater for those who like to step up their “park” experience.

“Our high-end Penthouse cabins are really beautiful, especially when you compare markets there’s not much competition – for example, people are renting holiday homes. The Penthouse cabins are quite unique in that they sleep up to eight and have really lovely fittings, features and general facilities.” The fully licensed restaurant nearby extends out to the pool area where guests can enjoy private cabanas. Brisbane Holiday Village also features a specially designed safety multi-field 24m by 12m for guests to play hockey, soccer and basketball.

greening THE CITY putting the eco back into melbourne

australia’s first carbon neutral hotel

a pleasant way of experiencing downtown Melbourne.

Attending festivals around the country to represent Soul Traveller Radio and Sage Magazine, I always find myself visiting hotels that are outside the integrity of the magazine, especially environmentally. Heading to Melbourne, Australia for a recent Conscious Living Festival, I was determined to find a city based hotel that was aligned with Sage Magazine and Conscious Travel Mag’s core value...low environmental impact.

In a recent interview with Hopitality Magazine, Mr Strickland explained that the environment has become a key deciding factor for visitors.

Sitting on busy Bourke Street, in the heart of the city is a little hotel with a big story. The Alto Hotel is a one-ofa-kind. Not only was it Australia’s first carbon neutral hotel, it was the first to receive the Earth Gold Check Accomodation. So what does it mean to the conscious traveller? Candle light, 3 minute shower times and recycled loo paper? This was a good opportunity to uncover the hidden truth behind so called ”eco” hotels and what it really took to be truly Earth Friendly.

wind power

The main factor is that 100 percent of the total electricity used has been created by an alternative renewable energy source...wind power. The general manager Gary Strickland said that the Alto Hotel started with being the first hotel to receive a 6 star NABERS rating by operating a number of sustainable programs that focus on waste, energy and water. Reducing the wastage on these three areas resulted in the reduction of the hotel’s carbon footprint. The Alto Hotel however takes it further with an organic food waste program, locally grown food and a rooftop beehive. The meals are superb and the fact that the ingredients are mostly organic is a welcome addition.

eco without the sacrifice of comfort

The good news however is that the eco label doesn’t mean sacrificing comfort and quality. For any conference attendee, the most important part of the hotel is the bed! With deep pillow top mattresses on all beds, I can safely say it was one of the best slumber experiences I have had away from home. For those wanting to see the city sights, the Alto is also conveniently located outside the main tram stop and if you are remaining within the CBD area, all trams are free. Just another way of reducing down city impact and

”45 per cent of our clients are telling us that the environment was one of the factors in them booking the hotel, but the interesting thing is that our next question is ’If you had to come back and stay in Melbourne again and you needed a hotel, would our environmental factors help sway you to stay with us?’ and it then jumps up to 90 per cent,” he says. (read the full article here).

the regreening melbourne initiative

The Alto team are part of a massive initiative by the Victorian government to try and re-green Melbourne. Mr Strickland wants to do so without jeopardising customer service or satisfaction. ”We want to assist people in treading lightly on the planet without changing the way they behave. Hopefully we will get lots of copy cats! We are ready to share information and plans with anyone who will listen to us.” Passion and caring for the planet started at the design phase, making the process of ensuring it stays as low environmentally impactful as possible, attainable. ”We would like to encourage anyone to join us on this journey and make it a lot easier on the planet.” Conscious Travel Mag is certainly joining Alto Hotel on the journey and is just one reason why we fully recommend staying at the eco approved Alto Hotel on your next Melbourne visit. The discovery: Not many people thank Mother Earth for Brussels Sprouts, but they now can. Chef Ben Russell’s perfectly fried brussels sprouts with a shallot and ginger dressing are heavenly. Nutty flavours, crisp outside leaves are balanced by the dressing. It’s a meal in itself and yet another magical way to eat our greens. The chef: Ben grew up in Tasmania, southern Australia and trained as a chef in Melbourne before moving to France in the late 1990s. He worked his way through some of the world’s best Michelin restaurants across Europe and joined Aria Sydney in 2004 before moving to Aria Brisbane as part of the opening team in 2009. BRISBANE, Queensland’s capital in Australia, is a burgeoning foodie scene with one big name chef

after another settling into the sunshine state’s main hub with world-class restaurants. ARIA Brisbane is as good as it gets for a special night out, the sister restaurant to masterchef Matt Moran’s of the same name in Sydney. We’re talking sheer elegance, tasty treats beyond description and rewards for a complete high-end dining experience. Conscious Travel Mag was privvy to a three-hour encounter with Brisbane’s best restaurant located on Eagle Street Pier. For starters, ARIA provides the foodie jackpot with striking views of Brisbane River, Story Bridge and the city lights from the restaurant thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. Owned by Moran and restaurateur Peter Sullivan, the restaurant is all about dishing up well-balanced seasonal menus with local and Australian produce...and a killer wine list that is loyal to Queensland and the rest of Australia. First up is a gorgeous pre-dinner drink encounter in the front cocktail bar where high tables and chairs feature subtle ruby glass tea light cubes while you tackle something like a Chili and Passion: chili, cucumber and ginger infused Ketel One vodka with vanilla and passionfruit puree ($19). Then wait until the floor staff get hold of you.

Our waitor, immaculately groomed and eloquently spoken, was not shy on charm. “May I be the voice of reason” or a “Let me make that happen for you sir” not uncommon phrases to make you feel like royalty. It was entertaining and appreciated. Then there’s the food, an extravaganza to be reckoned with as we indulge in food extravagance floating out of head chef Ben Russell’s kitchen. Think interesting concoctions like a golden pork belly starter, grilled with pear, currant chutney and crackling or oysters freshly shucked with mountain pepper mignonette. Mains are insane. The Wagyu neck, slow cooked, with carrot and black sesame or the duck roast breast with celeraic, apple and gingerbread will leave you speechless. Extras via veggies are sometimes mysterious beauties – who knew char-grilled brussel sprouts could be so delectable? Desserts are considered and intricate with subtle measures and beautiful flavours – the caramel and popcorn ganache with hazlenut ice-cream is a jawdropper and banana and chocolate souffle with creamy custard another sweet sensation you won’t forget. Forget Melbourne and Sydney for the pinnacle with Aussie food; Brisbane’s leading the charge and ARIA Brisbane is its captain. Co-owner Moran and his team obviously have their heart in the paddocks with eyes firmly fixed on the harvest with seasonal choices in mind. Through his passion and guidance, his restaurant serves up some of the most elegant dishes on the planet. More: www.ariarestaurant.com

Ten Good Reasons to be a conscious traveller

1.

To see our everyday world through fresh eyes

Once I met a cartwheeling water sprite masquerading as a young woman on Bondi Beach. She wanted to borrow my swimsuit. No problem. I stripped off, and sat wrapped in my towel, watching her antics in the surf. It was an awakening. I’d just returned from a big, life-changing two-year trip overseas and regular life seemed dull. Then I realised: I was living where people travel. If I could hold onto my openness, my generosity and most of all, my curiosity, then there are always marvels to be had. Travel helps us remember that. 2.

Simplified choices

“Fish or chicken?” Contemplating a trip, that question is more appealing to me than a perfect picture of an island paradise. Here’s why: Life is hectic. Especially before a trip when everything gets jammed up or crammed in: life, work, your suitcase, even the itinerary. And then you are away but not yet arrived. Life simplifies and time unfolds. On a plane: fish or chicken, tea or coffee, sleep or watch a movie. In the car, on the wide open road: music or podcast, stop or keep driving. That moment—when everything is done and adventure awaits—is addictive. 3.

Create memories

Travel gives you an album of mental snapshots, slices of time you can pull out when you need sustaining. For fear I pull out one from Cradle Mountain; there I am strong and joyous at the summit despite a nearly paralysing fear of heights. For laziness I time travel Lake Mungo: worth all the hassle in the world, camping with two kids, to be there photographing their footprints in the sand. And if my persistence is wobbly: I go to New Zealand, whooping with my kayaking instructor in a river gorge. I’d just managed my first ‘live’ eskimo roll, after nearly two years of trying back home. These are my little zingers, earned from my travels and always on hand if I need to remember an essential part of myself. We all have them. They just seem more frequent when you travel. 4.

Never too cool for school

Shared laughter even without a shared language is a traveller’s pot of gold. It doesn’t matter if you are the cause. In Indonesia I ate curry at my homestay and tried to ask what meat it was. I ran out of words at ayam or chicken. Then I resorted to animal noises. I tried mooing. And bleeting. And oinking. Little titters of laughter echoed around the table, but they understood. No, none of those animals. Then the mother pointed to the tree and I panicked. Indonesians don’t make monkey curry do they? OK. Nothing for it. I tried a monkey noise and threw in an action for clarity: ”ooh ooh eee eee aah aah.” Even the ancient grandmother exploded with laughter. The youngest boy scampered up the tree, soon to return, holding a jackfruit. 5. Learn the lingo, lose your pride “Do you have a saucepan hat?” I asked the lovely Guatemalan lady I was staying with. She blinked. Paused. Then laughed, tears spilling over and pulled out her lid. Learning Spanish is one of the great things I have done. It didn’t come easily—I’m tone deaf and have a dodgy memory—but in learning another language you also learn to think differently. Even my sense of humour in Spanish different, more slapstick. For me the key is never being afraid of making mistakes, just giving it a go. So now I remember tapa for lid, tobillo for ankle, instead of foot-wrist and cola for ponytail; rather than culo or arse. I’ve read learning a language makes you smarter. I don’t know about that—stupid mistakes seem to be my speciality. What’s changed is I’m not afraid to make them. 6. To experience loneliness, and other uncomfortable things I travelled in the days before the Internet (I was 19. I’m old, not ancient) to Central America. Letters had to be written and mail drops pre-organised. I even sent faxes to my mum to tell her I was safe. I was lonely and isolated. When the whole cultural immersion thing got too much, sometimes I watched reruns of Beverley Hills 90210 just to hear English. I made some really dumb decisions. And some great ones, but I had no immediate feedback from people who loved me. What happened? I learned to read maps and that I could survive misery, that my own company

That old pocket of loveliness: gratitude

There is nothing like a raging malarial fever or a solid (no, never that) dose of dysentery to make you grateful. That was certainly the case for me. Malarial shivers and bone racking headaches came with the kindness of strangers, family who nursed me back to health and even baked me a birthday cake. Dysentery in Timor came with an appreciation of vibrant health we only get when that health is suddenly gone. was OK and sometimes I got a bit odd if I spent too much time in my head. These days, this disconnect needs to be a deliberate one, travelling plus a social media detox. Like most detoxes it can be uncomfortable. But the mindfulness that comes is always worth it. 7.

To be the change in the world

We don’t have to quit our jobs and go off to save the world, or even donate our salary to help the poor. Tourism is a very real way people can pull themselves out of poverty. Tourism operators are already encouraging people to return to Nepal to help the country rebuild after the earthquake. Rwanda has experienced rapid—and surprisingly equitable growth—thanks to the returning tourist dollar. And even the smallest thing—paying a local woman to wash your clothes or hiring a yak from an Afghan nomad—injects money into a local economy, into a family. Yes, irresponsible tourism can destroy a place. But done ethically and well, it can bring about change. 8.

Find your tribe

In Spanish they called me pata de chucho, somebody who is always travelling (It’s not as poetic in the literal translation foot of the dog). Ten years of motherhood has settled the amount of travel I do, but perhaps not the urge. A fellow soul traveller put it like this, “Back at home I feel weird looking at friends settling down but I just want to travel, to see new places. And so I do. As soon as I go out in the world I realise, there’s a whole world of people just like me and that I am not weird at all.”

We’ve all been there, miserable and unwell away from home. You become vulnerable and exhausted, your reserves seemingly tapped out. Courage needs to be summoned. And in another twist: these tales of disaster of shit and pain and toil always make the best stories; something we can all be grateful for. 10. Share the big, wide world with your kids When I was nine my father took me to Papua New Guinea and I think I was lost in a market. Alone and surrounded by people who didn’t look like me at all, I should remember terror. Only I don’t. I remember a big man with a halo of hair, a bone through his nose and red betel nut lips saying apinun pikinini, good afternoon, child, and taking me back to my father. Apparently I said, “Dad, it’s just like in the books!” Now with kids of my own I don’t aspire to lose them in a busy market (or at least not very often). I do, however, hope to recreate that sense of wonder of a different world outside our own little bubble.

practising present moment with kat dawes #timelines Great Spirit of All Things, between you and me, this is such an interesting time in human history... We cover up the lines that represent our immersion in time, hiding our participation in our Life’s story. Often we look up and frown, because we disapprove of how life has touched us, stressed us, worn us and made us tired. But rarely do we appreciate the lines that made over 10,000,000 smiles; face dents of laughter inspired and delighted by a collection of moments in time. Ah Great Spirit, it is such an honor to do the Linear Time! I see the message of the Elders reflected by the light in my own eyes.

The Present Moment is all we really have and Life is a bunch of NOWs! The gift is in the movement; destinations are over-rated. Because although it is tasty to arrive, the true delight is movement itself. Expansion. The magic is that we can, we get to imagine things into being. Fine tuning out preferences, we intend and extend beyond what we can see. What a great honor it is to become the Elders! The story-tellers of initiation, holding space for smooth navigation, guiding us by holding up the light. They are the caretakers; history makers; the ones that have learned to take their time. They recognize your poise, for the Elders were once the Know-It-Alls, they are the original Tripped and Fallen; they have been fools

and lovers, brothers and mothers, ambitious, racey and kind. They have won and lost, paid the cost of being the Betrayer and the Betrayed. They have conquered decades of Love and Fear; broken through walls and years... And still building some walls after the powerful and painful initiations of Time. Perhaps without doing the Linear Time in all of its seasons, you may not really get to know the full extent of your-Self. For without the spectrum of things that can potentially frustrate and irritate, how can one learn the art of #patience? One cannot find ways to generate #courage, unless one encounters a moment of great risk! You will not know the truth of your innate #fullness unless you experience the illusion of loosing everything. The Elders now sit with a silent smile, as they watch us in our growing pains. Because somewhere along our collective way, our culture has tripped over something -- in a celebration of being ’individuals’, we appear to have become divided. We are fooled by our own make-believe, we pretend to be separate, believing deeply in this most fabricated lie. Competition is most popular; we rush, race and contest. A side dish of materialism and a dash of vanity is an a average meal these days. We evade the wrong things, we don’t really look in the mirror - really look afraid that what we may see, is not what they show on TVs and magazines. We pedestal a false sense of beauty and glamor, giving an ill-meaning to the lines on our faces...the lines that we have had the audacity to cross! It is a mainstream disease to believe that life is for the young and our most fabulous days are gone. Yet even as we attempt to hide, like fools -- we can only stand bare. For even our most clever disguises cannot cover up the energetic truth; we wear our NOW on our sleeves as we walk through Linear Time. It seems after doing some Linear Time, you trade in one mirror -- for a proper look in another. You begin to see the timeless truth of the BEing behind your eyes. Priorities lifting. Shifting. You are looking what they call ’older’, yet somehow nothing has changed. In these moments of simplicity mastery is disturbed into expression, for there is beauty here which is not publicized; a beauty that has nothing to do with the flesh. There in an inexhaustible good that is everywhere present, and you realize you are standing in the centre

of it. This is the only moment, there is no other time, we are exempt from the beginning and ending of things -seeing it all as it actually is. NOW. Great Spirit is present in all things! We hum with it. Becoming it. Oneness. Source. Knowledge graduates into wisdom; practice becomes a way of being. If we, in fact, receive the great honor of becoming one of the Elders, may we stand in celebration of the Linear Experience in its entirety! Honoring the lines of time. We will cease to hang out on only the surface of our reflections and rather see -- with the inner eyes -- the next layer of the mirror is where our true beauty is. This is where mastery is. We are a stream of Living Intelligence! Individualized expression of the Divine! Timeless Potential! Never born and never dies! Such an adventure it is, to become one of the Elders...and live in a Linear Time! Declare it and know it NOW! I AM a series of monumental moments. The journey is the gift and the destination is the Eternal NOW! ∞ What is your NOWism?

THE World wide PYRAMID network how the past could be the key to unlocking the current energy crisis by shayne locke

world wide pyramid network In our last issue of Sage Magazine we looked at the Secret Society of the Great White Pyramid, the location of the elusive pyramid and the connection with Mt Kailash and other famous world sites. In this issue we examine the World Wide Pyramid Network and how incredible measures to discredit the validity of the network are being taken by the “gatekeepers on popular sites such as Wikipedia.

our understanding of the creation of the monolithic buildings that we refer to as pyramids. Dr Semir Osmanagic, stumbled upon, what he believes is a 25,000 year old pyramid complex, several thousands of years older than the Great Pyramids of Egypt. The pyramid complex contains several structures, including the largest one, the Pyramid of the Sun, which has organic material in the soil that has been carbon dated at 24,800 years old. If the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun is 25,000 years old, this implies that the Pyramid was built by the oldest civilization known to mankind, outdating the Sumerian and the Babylonian civilizations, who are approximately 5,000 years old.

Whilst Sage Magazine does not subscribe to conspiracy theories, there is evidence to suggest that something is going on to hide the truth, and from what we can tell, the truth may possibly be a free energy source network. Keep an open mind and draw your own conclusions as we present the Worldwide Pyramid Amidst the claims, Dr Osmanagic has included the Network. theory that the Bosnian Pyramids, are the largest man made ancient pyramids on the Earth and form part of the World Wide Pyramid Network. In 2008, Dr. Osmanagich hosted an archaeological conference In 2005, located in a little Bosnian town called Visoko, in Sarajevo, which fuelled controversy about his a discovery was made that could represent a link in discovery dividing the archaeological community.

ISSUE 11

In 2010 however, Dr Osmanagic claimed to have made a fascinating discovery; an underground labyrinth with three chambers and a small blue lake. Energy screening shows that the ionization level is 43 times higher than the average concentration outside, which makes the underground chambers into “healing rooms”.

the energy beam

The most amazing claim however is that a team of physicists detected an energy beam coming through the top of the Bosnian “Pyramid of the Sun”. According to the Bosnian Pyramid website, the radius of the beam is 4.5 meters with a frequency of 28 kHz; the beam is continuous and its strength grows as it moves up and away from the pyramid. The report continues “This phenomenon contradicts the known laws of physics and technology. It seems that the pyramid-builders created a perpetual motion machine a long time ago and this “energy machine” is still working.” Speaking in a conference in 2013, Dr Osmanagic explained that pyramid complexes from around the world are not tombs, but energetic machines utilizing the Earth’s vibration and electromagnetic field that could be a tremendous source of alternative energy akin to Nikola Tesla’s free-energy devices.

the cover-up

Since the discoveries, the Bosnian Pyramid has come under criticism from a number of apparently reputable sources including the main online encyclopaedia site, Wikipedia. The wiki pages and the European Archeology Association now discredit the find and Dr Osmanagic as a “Cruel Hoax” on an unsuspecting public.

ancient power-plants Whilst it may appear that the debate centres around whether the structures are man-made or natural, it becomes entirely irrelevant. The real question is whether possible that these structures form a worldwide network of “power stations” that can generate clean energy. Were they in fact part of a civilisation that relied on the network as their source of power? Is this the reason why such an effort is being made in the media to discredit such “archaeological discoveries.” The website ancient-code.com, has posed the question of whether the Great Pyramid of Giza was built to serve as a power plant and not a royal tomb as some researchers and archaeologists suggest? “What we have is a very, very precise building that has the precision of a fraction of an inch. It’s something that is very noteworthy and not indicative of a simple agrarian culture without technology and advanced knowledge. You can think of the Great Pyramid as a machine, an Ancient Power Source? But just how could the Great Pyramid have been used as a power plant? Generating energy from its core? Researchers believe clues can be found by exploring the surface underneath the Pyramid.” There is a theory that water from the Nile River was pumped into a chamber under the great pyramid and an intense hydraulic pressure caused the entire pyramid to vibrate.

In 2013 however, Scott Wolter of the History Channel uncovered that one of the Wikipedia editors, Doug Weller, had been editing (or “gutting”) archaeological articles. This type of behaviour in allowing biased and incomplete information to be presented as factual has Ancient-code.com continued, “In the Queen’s been brought to light and Wikipedia management has Chamber in the Great Pyramid traces of zinc and now sought to correct it. hydrochloric acid have been discovered....when you bring these two liquids together, a chemical reaction There is a claim that the same Doug Weller edited the occurs, and a product of that chemical reaction is

hydrogen...the vibrations from the subterranean pool energized the hydrogen atoms transforming them into a microwave energy beam.” But how is this energy beam harnessed?

the tesla free energy theory In 1898 an excavation team from Berlin uncovered a massive obelisk at the base of the Sun Temple in Abu Gorab Memphis, Egypt believed to be the key in harnessing and controlling the power. With countless others being discovered around the world, granite obelisks along with the pyramids have high concentrations of quartz crystal which is known for its ability to convert the Earth’s natural electrical vibrations into usable energy known as piezoelectricity. In modern times in was Nicola Tesla who claimed to have invented a way to transmit electricity wirelessly. A tower with one of the keys being quartz crystal. His investor JP Morgan, who discovered the tower would transmit free electricity and radio waves, however, halted Tesla’s invention. According to Tesla’s theory and the findings of Dr Osmanagic, the pyramids and obelisks could form a global network of free energy. If so, why then have we not found out the truth and cranked up the generators, so to speak. The answer is simple, control. A free energy system could not be controlled. In the past, the governments have stepped in and taken over when a free energy system is invented – solar power anyone? Imagine what chaos would ensue if the government lost control of the energy grids once and for all. It is possible that the fossil fuel based energy system we now rely on could have been prevented if Tesla’s work on free energy hadn’t been suppressed. Tesla’s

patented free energy methods were rejected due to their inability to be metered and monetized. According to Dr Osmanagic and a widely supported theory put forth in the book, “The Giza Power Plant” by Christopher Dunn published in 1998, with so many locations around the world, the Worldwide Pyramid Network could be answer to many questions if it can be somehow activated. Tesla theories on wireless power applied to the pyramid network could have profound effects on the way we live our daily lives. The secrets uncovered in the last decade are just the beginning. conscious LIVING EXPO - 21 to 23 August 2015 isira keynote speaker - conscious living expo One of the Keynote Speakers at this year’s Conscious Living Expo is Isira Sananda who is conducting the workshop ”Awakening YOU”. Soul Traveller Radio’s Shayne Locke interviewed Isira for the Conscious Living Show. Take a listen to the podcast here. Part of the interview discussed Isira’s new book Awakening YOU and her journey. Isira is a living Master, one who is awake in every moment - what people call enlightened. She embodies pure love, compassion and wisdom. Her passion and her purpose is to facilitate humanity’s awakening, for each individual to be all they can be, and make a difference in the world. Isira lives and has lived an extraordinary ordinary life. She was born with awakened awareness, was meditating before the age of two and remembered past lives as a yogi. At 16, as Isira was being raped and almost murdered, she emanated the power of love, which stopped the murderer – and as a result he became the saviour. At 18 Isira vowed to support humanity to awaken into the wisdom and love that they truly are, and to transform the world. The discussion with Isira was so emotional and moving that we requested she share some of her book in this issue of Sage Magazine. We hope you enjoy Isira Sananda, Awakening YOU...

awakening you - embodying peace, love and freedom on earth As a global family we are clearly on the threshold of enormous upheaval, which beckons us either to greater fear... or to a shift in our consciousness. At this time it is evident that many of us are looking for answers and feeling disillusioned by the degree of conflict, division and environmental destruction in our own lives and at large. We have expended great energy on criticising each other and asserting forceful power for the sake of greed, or even in the name of peace. We have vied for a position of the best politics, the greatest truth, the best religion or the right way. Our efforts have focused extensively on the identity and material possessions of our human being-ness and have largely overlooked the essential truth of being human. We have discussed our ideals, politics and philosophies endlessly, only to find that we – and importantly, our leaders – are still trapped in unconscious beliefs and controlling behaviours. We have been, and still are, mostly driven by the ego. In the quest for power we overlook the most essential power there is to our humanness: consciousness and compassion.

of our world heading toward a potential abyss? Are we truly conscious? Where is our compassion? Are we awake? At the end of the day, when we take off the hats and the cloaks of individual identities, we remember that we are all human. It is only when we meet each other as such that we find the place of unity where all images are respected, even in our diversity, and are held as equal, as one. This place is the heart. The heart is where our true human power abides. Here, true wisdom, compassion and co-operation are born. Here, we transcend the ego and awaken consciousness. When we return to the wisdom of our hearts, we see that we are no different from each other. It is when we follow the way of the heart that we find our common spirit, where all pretence of superiority or inferiority becomes obsolete. We all have families, we all long for peace and wellbeing and we all strive for our basic dignity of human rights and respect. We are all worthy. We all have a part to play in life. And, most significantly, we only have this one world to share.

A higher awareness waits in the heart of each and every one of us. This awakened one, conscious We are the people of the world...yet are we conscious awareness, is waiting in the ever-present silence of what is happening around us every day? Are we within. Awakened consciousness is the universal conscious of our actions and their effects? Conscious power that will return us to harmony and oneness. This of the growing imbalances of this world? Conscious

SAGE magazine

AWAKENING YOU - ISIRA is our true leader. The true answers we seek can only come from conscious awareness. With awakening we discover that our true capacity for human greatness begins to emerge as compassion in all its colours: loving kindness, equal rights, respect, and constructive change for growth. We uncover our largely untapped potential for true hope, courage, transcendence and higher vision, even when faced with the greatest adversities. We are able to set out again on a true path, to return to harmony. Underneath all our fears and attachments, it is harmony that we seek. Eventually every human comes to face one of two possibilities: Either to accept an existence beset with disillusionment and suffering, or to realise that every soul was born to be happy. This leads us to the single most relevant choice - love or fear. When we choose fear we remain unconscious. When we choose love, we regain greater consciousness. If we are to create a world of love and harmony, for ourselves and each other, we must make a conscious shift from our unconscious behaviours to awakened awareness. We must awaken ourselves, humanity, without ever using violence to achieve any objective. The only way to change the world for the better is by uplifting the consciousness and the heart of each individual, of all people. When critical mass is achieved, the politicians and the business sector will follow. That is when real change will begin.

has any relevance once we are self-realised. Within the authenticity of our own realisation, we transcend all doubts and we discover that what we were seeking was, is and always will be within us. I remember being asked, “How do you know you are awake?” That is like asking “How do you know you’ve eaten the apple?” Once you have looked at the apple, touched it, smelled it, picked it from the tree and tasted it, do you ask how you know you’ve eaten the apple? However, without the direct experience, questions remain. We have been taught dependence on someone else’s experience. I could tell you, “Believe me, the apple is....” and you could blindly believe what I say but you will still have a seed of doubt until you yourself eat the apple. A master’s words or examples are only ever a signpost. The signpost is pointing us towards truth... to awakened awareness. It is never the teacher who sets us free, it is our exploration of what the teacher reflects back to us – our true essence – that leads us to experience and know the truth that sets us free. Discovering our innermost power and awareness is a journey. Yes, by the nature of habit, it seems natural to keep looking for answers with the mind, to keep looking for answers from the past, or to project hope into the future. Yet despite this, every person who has encountered the liberating power of awareness has come to realise the very same thing: The where is HERE.

Only consciousness, which is free of the mind, can reveal our true nature. Ultimately we must renounce the belief in separation and turn from concepts to our own inner being. When we look within we enter a different dimension of seeing. We enter the presence of conscious awareness that releases inner vision insight. With insight comes true and authentic feeling. With authentic feeling comes experience. And with experience comes knowing. With the experience of knowing, our doubts and the rejection of ourselves as love and peace dissolve.

The HOW is always in the NOW.

For this to happen, commitment, application and vigilant self-awareness are required. The habits of maintaining limited beliefs and looking outside of ourselves are deeply rooted and compulsive. Rest assured, letting go of these habits is well worth the effort. The prize is the experience of awakening in one’s own process, of gaining one’s own true Self, something that no other can either give or take away. It is so great and immeasurable in its joy, love and peace that whatever appeared as suffering no longer

The NOW is beyond time, beyond the mind. The NOW is the source and presence of all that is True. It is when we meet this, consciously, that everything we have tried to understand, the peace and love we have been seeking, is discovered in the very midst of every living moment.

THE NINJA CIRCUS During my recent visit to Uluru, our beautiful host Judy O’Donnell and her partner Geoff, organised a ‘surprise’ afternoon at a small school based in Mutitjulu, home of the traditional land owners of the area. We were treated to an incredible circus performance by the Indigenous youth of the area and it was spectacular indeed! What was truly so beautiful to witness, was the passion and inspirational teachings of a very dedicated French man called Ludo (aka Mr Om, internationally acclaimed circus performer with over 20 years’ experience) who shares his big love and enthusiasm so freely to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of these totally talented individuals.

You could see and sense the positive impact on, not only the youth but the entire community; gifting the youth involved with high self-esteem and life-changing opportunities to tour, travel and perform as a circus troupe in environments outside of their indigenous home. Ludo’s empowering projects rely completely on grants, sponsorships and the generous donations of all who can feel his magical mission and the intention that the art of circus provides to the emotional and social well-being of the youth involved…. â€?the cosmos is a vast living body, of which we are still parts. the sun is a great heart whose tremors run through our smallest veins. the moon is a great nerve centre from which we quiver forever. who knows the power that saturn has over us, or venus? but it is a vital power, rippling exquisitely through us all the time..â€? ISSUE 11

Greetings Soul Travellers, The next couple of months are truly action-packed as there are many major planetary influences that are unique and transformative keeping the wheels of change spinning. I write on the Full Moon as the Leo Sun opposes the Moon in Aquarius. It’s also a Blue Moon the second Full Moon of July and according to folklore whenever two Full Moons occur in the same month, the second one is deemed a ‘Blue Moon’. The event is infrequent, as its name suggests; the last Blue Moon was in August 2012, and the next one is due January 2018. This full Moon in Aquarius comprised a bunch of planets in passionate Leo (the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter) opposed to the Moon in universally-minded Aquarius emphasising the perpetual struggle between personal wants versus the collective or communal needs, and a necessity to find balance between me and we. In Astrology the Sun sign symbolises our individualised and personal quest, the ‘Hero’s Journey’ so to speak and the treasure we’re searching for. Leo being the sign ruled by the Sun in turn is associated with the centre of our beings, our hearts yearning. During this Full Moon, we learn that the best possible outcome is that the Moon in Aquarius gently guides the Sun in Leo’s heart energies and pours all that love upon the collective community. Assisting the noble goal on this same day, Venus the Planet of love retrogrades back into Leo the sign of the heart light centre. There are many more associations between planetary phenomena and mythological Gods and Goddesses and one of the most illustrative is the story of Inanna, the Sumerian love goddess, femme fatale and warrior princess. Joseph Campbell, the renowned author and researcher of comparative mythology, equates the Sumerian Inanna to the Babylonian Ishtar, the Greek Aphrodite and the Roman Venus and we can also include the legendary Isis, Lilith and Kali.

search for the heart of gold

a time of reflection, introspection and potential renewal.

The legend of Inanna is a heart-rending tale of the soul’s development from immaturity to maturity, from self-centred personal love to infinite inspirational love. Inanna’s movements throughout the ancient myth correspond with the movements of Venus in the sky. In the fable, Inanna’s descent into the Netherworld and eventual ascent demonstrates how Venus makes a similar descent in the early evening sky setting in the West and rising again in the East at Dawn. The sporadic, transient movements of the planet Venus in the sky also echo Inanna’s erratic nature, as she is clearly devoted to the principle of relationship but often is fleeting and fickle.

Venus begins her retrograde phase in the evening sky on Jul 25, 2015 at 0 degrees Virgo. Venus retrogrades back into Leo for about 40 days and nights but if we include the shadow period it’s between 3 and 4 months. Venus descends and disappears from the evening sky on Aug 09, 2015 at 27 Leo and even though we can’t see her, she exactly conjuncts the Sun at 23 Leo on Aug 15. Venus then reappears in the morning sky on Aug 21 at 19 Leo and so starts a new Venus (love) cycle.

In the tale, Inanna’s experience of love (Venus) is tempered and refined by episodes of humiliation, pain, loss, death, rebirth and then forgiveness and her appreciation of love eventually evolves to a higher level. Innana’s journey into the underworld, into the depths of intimacy is a profound inner journey as well and as if to mirror Innana’s mission, for every 18 months or so, Venus begins a retrograde cycle, where she seems to reverse direction, descend and disappear, conjoin with the Sun, then reappear. During these times we are provided the opportunity to let go of the past and replenish our resources and capacity for love as the retrograde motion tends to encourage

Venus rules love, beauty, aesthetics and money, what we love and what we value, how we use our skills and talents and our creativity. Traditionally when Venus is in Leo, passionate relationships begin fast, however with Venus in Retrograde it’s time to assess and reassess relationships and not necessarily commit. The best thing you can do is make an effort to define and understand what your relationships are about during a retro phase. Old unresolved relationships can come back into your life, including karmic relationships and soul mate relationships where the past has to be worked through and healed. Venus retrograde can take us back into our past and allow us to let go of any outworn emotions and frustrations. It’s also time to reconsider what we value, emotionally and

materialistically because Venus also rules prosperity. Use this time to reignite an old passion or reconnect with past friends or loved ones. You’ll have plenty of time to reinvent love and creativity in your life because the shadow period doesn’t end till October 9th. In August, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Chiron retrograde as well.

expansion & contraction

Saturn goes Direct on August 2nd and the next day August 3rd Jupiter at the very end of its yearlong stay in Leo is making an exact tense square to Scorpio at 28 degrees. Venus aligns once again with Jupiter and lifts our spirits high on August 4th and the very next day Venus squares off with Saturn on August 5th, bringing us abruptly back to Earth. Nothing too rare here but what is notable is that while Venus conjuncts Jupiter they are now both squaring Saturn all whilst Venus is in Retrograde. Saturn is now in direct motion again and we may be bursting with excitement and forward thinking plans one minute and subdued by practical caution the next. These planetary symbols that have been with us from September 2014 recommend a slow and cautious dance that should be viewed as part of the bigger picture.

forward and then one step backward. Jupiter square Saturn is a time of limited development and taking care of business. It’s a time of expansion (growth) followed by contraction, a labour of sorts birthing infinite Jupiter possibilities through Saturn’s regard for the rules of the establishment.

new moon in leo On the 14th August the New Moon is conjunct Venus in Leo and is going to be buzzed with excitement by a fiery trine harmonising with Uranus in Aries. August 15th Venus conjuncts exact with the Sun. This wonderful New Moon will see the Sun, Moon and Venus in Leo and will feel liberating and energising, yet there is still the blocking pattern of the squares to Saturn to contend with. Nevertheless the New Moon is always a magical time when we can really make breakthroughs if we are willing to look back (Venus (Heart) Retrograde) at old patterns and project what we want to manifest into the future.

jupiter in virgo

Beneficial Jupiter will enlarge the fine qualities of Virgo, the sign of the Harvest from August until Historically, the Jupiter Saturn cycle is really a 20 year September of 2016. If your Jupiter is in Virgo, it’s your cycle, an astrological pattern that is one of many that Jupiter return and a year of growth. For the rest of defines our lives. Every 20 years Jupiter and Saturn us the energy of Virgo offers us the opportunity to line-up in a conjunction for example 1900, 1920, 1940, purify and cleanse imperfections and Jupiter in Virgo 1980, etc. 10 years later with the Earth in the centre can assist us to do the ‘inner-work’ which returns us Jupiter and Saturn are in opposition in 1910, 1930, to our true essence as the Virgin energy represents 2010, 2030 etc. And on the 5th year in between the the part of us that has remained untainted, pure conjunction and opposition Jupiter forms this tension and unchanged by the ups and downs of life. Virgo building square with Saturn. This Jupiter square is the only astrological sign that is represented as Saturn cycle will square off again but in different signs a female, and therefore indicates the dominant (Jupiter in Virgo and Saturn in Sagittarius) on March feminine essence and therefore the heightened 23rd 2016 and finally on May 26th 2016. capacity to receive at this time as feminine energy is considered to be more grounded and more practical Combined with the Venus Retrograde we are being than masculine energy. This ‘down to earth’ quality cautioned to breathe deeply, to take our time when it resonates with Virgo’s traditional association with comes to decisions and actions and recognize the the element of Earth, Nature and all things natural. It value of a slow inhale and an equally slow exhale. is after all in Nature that we meet the greatest healer At this time we may feel that we are taking one step and teacher and where the awesomeness of creation

is felt more intimately.

Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

The Sun moves into Virgo August 23rd and catches up to Jupiter in Virgo on the 26th August. The Full Moon on the 29th August is in Pisces conjunct Neptune opposite the Sun and Jupiter conjunct in Virgo. Reach for the stars now but keep your feet firmly planted on the ground because big imaginative opportunities thrive if you can stay earthbound in order to focus on the details. And isn’t that what Virgo does so well. Indeed, Virgo energy is connected to practicality, as well as the perpetual quest for order and perfection. No other sign has Virgo’s ability to detect imperfections. Yes it true, errors and imperfections upset Virgo’s sense of order. As you can imagine, in this quest for perfection, Virgo can often focus too much on the inadequacies and errors around them. Many mystics suggest that whilst the Sun is in Virgo, it is best if we can embrace a counter-intuitive Homeopathic approach and actively withdraw our disapproval, reduce our criticism and suspend our judgment. Through the perfectionism of Virgo we can instead focus our critical eye on ourselves. And we will have plenty of opportunity to do just that as September is Eclipse Season and Eclipses often are the agents of change that force us into remedial action.

On Sep 25th Pluto moves forward once again at 12 degrees of Capricorn after 5 months of Retrograde motion has churned us through overwhelming evolutionary change. In my opinion the phoenix has yet to fully rise from the ashes. Be that as it may the powerful wheels of motion prevail and on Sep 17th Mercury goes Retrograde and on the same day Jupiter enters an opposition with Neptune. Jupiter and Neptune are both planets that project energy that is breathtaking, rather larger than life. Jupiter amplifies a striving towards higher consciousness and Neptune’s mystical undertones promise the impossible dream. Who knows what is possible under such a profound transit. Could it be that we as citizens of the world enlarge our compassion and start to care more? Could there be a flood of empathy, a tide of compassion for the unfortunate and suffering of the world?

eclipses Astrology proposes that Eclipses are times of powerful personal growth and that your chart can show how much lunar and solar eclipses may affect you on an individual level. During Solar Eclipses the Moon is directly between the Earth and Sun which creates a powerful alignment whereby the Moon can temporarily eclipse and veil the light and energy of the Sun (our ego), which can activate powerful insightful openings within. A Solar Eclipse occurs on September 13th at 20 degrees of Virgo which starts a whole new 19 year cycle. This especially affects those born with personal planets located at round about 10 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. During a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon in opposition. The Earth’s shadow can transform the full white Moon into glorious red hues referred to as a Blood Moon. Lunar eclipses are powerful full moons that are associated with culminations. You may notice that there is more focus on relationships during this Lunar Eclipse, which occurs on September 27, at 4 degrees of Aries (I am) opposite the Sun in Libra (we are). This especially affects those born with personal planets located at round about 0 to 10 degrees of the Cardinal signs

Astrology seeks to connect us to the universal rhythms. The ancients, through ritual and ceremony participated with the natural cycles of nature. Unfortunately, this does not occur as much today. Nevertheless these universal patterns still exist and through observing them we can gain a deeper understanding of the rites of passages of the human soul and indeed the process of all life on this planet we call home.
