Therapy
By Paula Beatrix Rusly
Art therapy provides diverse possibilities for clients to express themselves and work through their issues. Art therapy also allows clients with physical and intellectual disabilities to work through their issues indirectly through non-verbal (McGraw 1999, Stott and Males 1996) communication.
Working with young adults with moderate to severe multiple disabilities has taken me through another learning curve. I have learned a great deal about the population and about myself as a therapist. I learned to develop my skills in looking at artwork from another angle. Patience and creativity are also skills that I developed further in this particular learning opportunity. Clients with multiple disabilities are posed with various challenges in life. There is often a tendency towards low self esteem (Leahy, Bella, & Zigler in Anderson, 1992; Kirk and Gallagher in Anderson, 1992; Lindemann, 1981), lack of independence (Kessler in Lindemann, 1981; Anderson 1992; Stott and Males in Dalley, 1996; Lindemann, 1981) and a lack of opportunities to interact with others, this indirectly affects the development of their social skills (Lindemann, 1981). I created figure 1 as a part of my reflection in my experience working with this population. This artwork depicted the connection and relationship between myself as therapist, and my client in an art therapy space, the holding space. Winnicott (1962) explained that the established therapeutic relationship between therapist and client can be experienced as a holding space resembling the relationship of the mother and a child during the early years of his or her life. It is really an amazing experience to observe and to interact with the clients both in individual, and especially in group sessions. Witness them interact with each other in the holding space, in the art therapy sessions. Witness them discuss certain topic, work as a team with each other, learn different skills to take turns, to gave and accept input in an appropriate manner, and so on. It has been a challenging yet fulfilling experience.

minimART An Affordable Art Market for Aspiring Collectors By Tim Zeelie
Singapore is emerging as an international hotspot for art fairs, expos, and commercial arts festivals, but none are quite as intimate, local or affordable as minimART. For its second edition, minimART will be aiming to turn more Singaporeans into art collectors, and raise the profiles of a new breed of emerging artists. Tim Zeelie caught up with Vincent Chow, one of the organisers of the event, to find out more about his ideas around affordable art and novice art collecting. TZ: What can visitors expect to see at minimART this year? minimART will showcase work by 25 artists in The Substation Gallery, and each artist has been given a 1m x 1m x 3m space to transform. These young artists will be working within these allocated spaces, regardless of their chosen artistic disciplines, which range from installation and sculpture, to photography and painting. The only requirement, other than keeping the works within the given dimensions, is that they have to be for sale, and cost less than $1000. minimART helps a younger generation of local artists represent and interpret contemporary ideas and issues through art, and provides them with the space and support to do so. Visitors will also get an opportunity to talk to the artists, who will be present on both days. There will also be other complementary programmes running alongside the market. In the Random Room, on Saturday 7 April, a durational performance will take place from 4-8pm. BOUNDless, curated by Daniela Beltrani, involves 5 surprise artists working with 10 unknown materials, in an unknown space. And on Sunday, from 10am-6pm, a fresh line-up of video art and experimental films will be exhibited. VIDEOvoiddeck, curated by Wesley Leon Aroozoo, includes 100 minutes of videos by over 20 artists, and features new work from local and international artists. TZ: Are Singaporeans investing in art, and do you see the market for affordable art playing a significant role in the future?

The Substation Soapbox Some collectors buy art for investment purposes, others because they like the work. To a certain extent, quality, affordable artworks are required to nurture new pool of collectors, and with Singapore’s relatively young art scene, this is a good time for art collectors to grow with the art industry, alongside local artists. The demand for affordable art also plays an important role helping local young artists to become sustainable in their artistic careers. It is a much-needed part of the ecosystem that will help create a vibrant art industry in Singapore. TZ: Do you have any advise for aspiring art collectors? Buying art is a form of artistic expression too! However, there are two simple steps people should take when buying art: 1. Before you leave home, set a maximum budget you are comfortable spending on a work you like. 2. Then, when you are there, let your heart take over and choose an artwork that connects with you instantly, whether emotionally or intellectually. Your art collection defines you, and it expands and heightens your emotional and intellectual experience. And as a result, your collection will evolve as you grow older. To put it simply, buy something you will enjoy looking at again and again. What is unique about minimART is that you get the rare opportunity to meet the artists personally, and to talk to the artists, and see if you like their philosophy. As a start, I would suggest checking out the participating artists’ profiles on the minimART website: www.minimartsg.com. minimART 2.0 will be on at The Substation Gallery from 7 – 8 April 2012. For more information please visit www.substation.org or call 6337 7535. The Substation is located at 45 Armenian Street, Singapore 179936

Visual Arts and Masters Research Listening to Artists and Tacit Knowledge By B. Jane Cowie
Visual artists tend to live their practice rather than write about what they do. Yet it is important for artists, designers, makers and crafts people to write so their perspective is included within text based knowledge, policy development and educational curricular. Including aspects of tacit knowledge, material based research and implicit understandings of creative practice in text, assists others to nurture and develop creativity in society. Listening to what artists and makers have to say is critical to the development of a flourishing arts community created by artists, for artists. My participation in text based culture started when I undertook a Masters of Visual Arts at the University of South Australia. I was keen to learn more about how glassmaking began in South Australia, and how the community managed to be so strong. My thesis filled a gap in existing knowledge by including a “glassmaker’s perspective” in the 40,000 word paper and visual display of research findings. I was a participant/observer, and the thesis an ethnographic study, of a community of glassmakers. The methodology accessed ‘experiences - sensations, feelings, intuitions and judgments’1 within the glassmaking process, so a ‘certain type’ of knowledge could be included. The auto-ethnographic process of re-making selected art glass pieces originally made by others, was used to inform and facilitate the integration of a “maker’s voice” within text.2 Text based knowledge and written histories last beyond casual conversation, workshop events and temporary exhibitions. It is important that a diversity of knowledge is retained then within text that includes artists and glassmakers, as their knowledge is a continuous process of realization involving both the implicit and the explicit.3 Implicit knowledge, embedded in action, is not normally explained nor articulated by makers immersed in the process.4 Yet experiential knowledge is important to any discussions about the development of an arts community. Since arriving in Singapore in 2003 to head the glass course at Lasalle College of Arts, I have witnessed a number of shifts in the development of glassmaking practice. Without a market to sell artworks or a funded situation to cover the high cost of making, the studio glass movement has not flourished. Knowledge of glass making processes, glass blowing skills and techniques must be taught and practiced. A sound knowledge of glassmaking technology, materials, equipment and furnace building is also required. The development of studio based practice is an ‘unfolding’ of narratives, events and histories that should include the experiences of glassmakers.5 16

Living in Singapore, which is a long way from the developed community of glassmakers in South Australia, I am excited to be at the birth of a new studio glassmaking movement. My passion for art and glassmaking fueled my move to Singapore. I am proud to be a part of the burgeoning education and development of emerging glass artists, the expansion of studio glass in Singapore and the developing art glass community within the South East Asian region. Cover Story Lindsay Harris is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Lesmurdie, situated in the Perth Hills, Western Australia. He is from the Noongar people, who have lived in parts of Western Australia for at least 45,000 years. The Noongar lived in balance with the natural environment; the main source of food and water came from the sea, and the extensive system of freshwater lakes in the area. Lindsay Harris states: “I am a Noongar artist and my interest has always been finding ways of representing my lands (Kwolyin). I see through my eyes which invoke memories of Kwolyin in the central wheat belt of Western Australia and of the surrounding districts where I once lived. As a Noongar I have and I share in a special relationship to the country of my forebears. Overarching this relationship is the respect for my country and my involvement in its care and representation. When making my art, I introduce both memories and images of granite rocks, tracks and salt lakes. The bold brush

strokes in my paintings hide an underlying current of past tensions experienced by my people and their lands. I paint using resin which gives me a feeling of marking and being connected to the land. I like to compare the markings I make to the tracks and paths that have criss-crossed my land since ancient times. I feel that my art has to give a sense of intimacy and connection to my boodja (Land). I paint using sticks which gives me a feeling of scarring the land. I like to compare the markings I make to the ceremonial scarring of the body, still practised by Aboriginal people today.” Since his first exhibition in 2006, Lindsay Harris has developed his technical skills as a painter and his works almost seem sculptural. Expressing a deep passion for his region, the viewers feel they see an object, which allows them an intimate insight to boodja, his land. His simple yet powerful compositions are the result of his unique placement of shapes and motifs, combined with a rich, organic palette of colour. His application of a variety of pigments, ochre and resins creates the effect of earthy texture, which connects him with the land. Lindsay adds “At the heart of it, a meeting place where Noongars always gathered. The idea of being koort is the heart place. Health, happiness, family, good times when coming together. My paintings come from physical and spiritual nourishment created from having an intimacy when in my country. This is possibly why an explanation to the viewer is necessary about my art as it is difficult to fully appreciate the meaning if one has not been there and breathed and rested in these lands as I have.” Lindsay’s work has received public and critical acclaim and he was a finalist in the 25th National Aboriginal & Torres Straits Islander Art Award in 2008, culminating in his selection for the ‘unDisclosed:’ exhibition in May 2012. His work is part in numerous private Australian and International collections but also held by the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of Western Australia. ReDot Fine Art Gallery invites anyone fascinated by Indigenous art & culture to step into a world that is familiar in its simplicity but mesmerizing in its depth and wonder. A Singaporean in Australia Boo Sze Yang: Sanctuary
17 Apr – 21 May Art at St. Francis’, St. Francis' Church, 326 Lonsdale St. (Corner Elizabeth St.), Melbourne 3000, Australia Boo Sze Yang’s first solo art exhibition in Melbourne, Australia will feature a selection of paintings from the artist’s House of God and The Mall series. House of God is a body of works that depict the interiors of Cathedrals the artist visited in his travels. The Mall is a collection of paintings of interiors of shopping malls. For Boo, shopping malls are sanctuaries for the modern man and woman. Boo Sze Yang: Trinity Church, Boston, USA, 2011, oil on canvas, 76 x 61cm Built increasingly beside temples, mosques and churches in landscarce Singapore (and many other cosmopolitan cities such as New York & London); one might discover a curious convergence of function and form between malls and religious houses: they are similarly places of worship in cavernous spaces of glitter and awe. Boo’s paintings often deal with unconventional subjects – from ordinary domestic objects, car and airplane crashes to interiors of shopping malls. These works, distinctive by its eclectic brush work and a subdued grey palette, deals with the experience of light and space in painting, and how the performative processes of painted gesture manifest itself in subsequent perception of images. 1His Angkor series studies interiors and exteriors; the passing of time and the capsule of time. His church interiors reveal an exploration of sacred and profane: a vivid study of space as concept and space as symbol. Beyond investing gestural invocations with the mastery of depiction and the gravitas of reflection, to paint the interior of a place of worship for instance, is to re-evaluate the space through making, through re-creation. For Boo, painting is not cosmetic; but a means of recovery or disclosure to the various nuances in life. Boo believes that the potency of a painting lies neither in its lucid narrative nor polished surfaces but in its metaphorical inference through the image it presents. Born in 1965, Boo Sze Yang is a Singaporean who graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) in 1991. He

Esplanade Presents A Tapestry of Sacred Music
27 – 29 Apr Esplanade, 1 Esplanade Drive
An adventure through continents and cultures, A journey through histories and hearts, In love with life, In quest of peace. Sacred music is perhaps the most primal music of all. It comes from a place deep inside us, and often leads us in our quest to transcend the “bonds of earth”, and to connect with the Divine, whatever we perceive it to be. The sanctity of this desire has inspired man to create some of the most beautiful and entrancing music in the world. This quest, found in the sacred music of so many cultures around the world, is what the annual festival, A Tapestry of Sacred Music, is all about. In this 4th edition, you will be treated to a showcase of some of the stirring musical expressions found in the diverse cultural and spiritual heritages spanning from Asia and beyond. Across continents, communities and eras, through the founding of ancient civilizations to the modern age, worship has almost always been accompanied by music, so today the world’s stock of sacred music is a bottomless treasure trove of historical information about the evolution of man, civilization, and the world’s cultures and faiths. It includes court music and musical prayer, instrumental music and vocal music, music to accompany recitation of text and music to express feelings of devotion. It can be fast or slow, loud or quiet, meditative or passionate, improvisational or notated, joyful or full of angst. It holds truths and realities different from that which we are used to in daily living. It goes beyond mere entertainment into the private realms of our hopes, fears, prayers, emotions and dreams. It takes us by the hand as we leap into the realm of faith. A Tapestry of Sacred Music offers a variety of sacred music from around the world, presenting music from antiquity alongside more modern varieties. This festival invites audiences to come with open hearts and minds to embrace the many rich sounds, colours and moods of the music offered. It is our hope that the music’s timeless relevance and beauty will refresh our senses, and inspire us all to look at life anew. Check www.tapestryofsacredmusic.com for programme line-up and details.

Lee Wen Lucid Dreams in the Reverie of the Real
20 Apr – 10 Jun Singapore Art Museum, 71 Bras Basah Road Lucid Dreams in the Reverie of the Real is an exhibition of works by LeeWen, a multidisciplinary artist and one of Singapore’s most internationally recognised contemporary artists. His earliest known work in a book entitled A Waking Dream (1981) with texts and drawings preceded the manga generation of today and showed evidence of his inclination in using dreams, metaphor and mythmaking to manifest a narrative of our perception of life and reality. Best known for his Yellow Man series of work, Lee is also one of the Singapore artists who was a pioneer in the field of performance art. Through various constructed personas, his works allow visitors an insight into the artist and provocateur, whose very being is motivated by a strong conviction of justice and idealism, with a persistence to stay true to the self in a highly structured world. In this exhibition, Lee will be presenting key works spanning twoand-a-half decades alongside more recent ones. The vast selection includes installations, photographs, videos and documentations.

Zhan Wang 小宇宙 My Universe
31 Mar – 28 Apr STPI Gallery, 41 Robertson Quay
Zhan Wang, a leading figure in contemporary sculpture literally breaks new ground at Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI). Wielding a Herculean sledgehammer, he smashes boulders of rocks into an explosive spectrum of rocky debris flying across the studio floor. Zhan’s new body of work “My Universe” created in collaboration with STPI, reimagines Humanity’s fascination of the “Big Bang Theory”, where in an inexplicable moment, a tiny dense state expanded majestically into a colossal cosmic plane. Zhan’s shattered rocks are recreated into celestial, metallic rock clusters assembled on paper slabs made with mineral silt, recalling surreal, arid landscapes of distant planets, customarily depicted in science fiction. Zhan’s deconstructions mark a dramatic shift in his conceptual explorations of traditional Chinese „scholar’s rocks‟, believed to be prehistoric entities of pure qi, or vital energy. To accomplish the artist’s grand cosmic vision, STPI‟s workshop expertise pushed Zhan Wang, STPI Artist Studio beyond their limits in an intensive array of artistic production. Up to 20,000 stone fragments right down to minuscule specks were measured and reproduced in the original likeness, as synthetic rocks coated in metallic chrome. These pieces were meticulously assembled onto STPI handmade paper or highly polished mirrors to replicate the complex matrix of obliterated rocks captured in photo documentation.

Art News
All remnants of the original rocks were pounded by hand into fine sediment and mixed with cotton pulp to produce a solid paper base, which reveals the natural mineral pigments of clay, slate and granite. The use of mirrors as an alternative base, adds a three-dimensional twist to the visual plane where metallic rock mass seem to float in space and superimpose viewers‟ reflections on the artwork. “Zhan Wang’s creative collaboration with STPI brings fresh insights into the artist's practice in fascinating paradoxes of emulating natural phenomena, solidifying moments of flux and reimagining the origins of time to envision new creative possibilities,” said Emi Eu, Director of STPI. Constantly pushing the envelope with unconventional ideas, Zhan Wang has scaled Mount Everest to put a metal rock sculpture at its summit, set adrift a hollow mountain in the ocean, tried to launch a stainless steel “meteorite” into space and recently detonated a large boulder in mid air for “My Personal Universe”, an installation of 7,000 suspended stones replicating a moment of stillness in its explosion. Zhan Wang (b.1962 Beijing, China) graduated with a Master of Fine Arts (Sculpture) from The Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. He has exhibited extensively in major museums and galleries across the world including the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing; Saatchi Gallery, London; Kunst Museum, Bern; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo and the Asia Society Museum, New York. Works in major public collections include, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; National Art Museum of China, Beijing and the Smart Museum of Art, Chicago.

Liu Liguo’s works represent and reflect a Chinese form of ego, lost within a consumer society, whose principal manifestation is a usual combination of elements particular to modern China – religion, folklore, consumerism, and the image of Mao Zedong. Everything is materially opulent, dripping with sensuality and abundance. In Liu Liguo’s works, popular and folkloric elements are consciously accentuated, saturated by faith in progress, memories of the revolution and a modern form of quasi-religion; a spirit investment inspired by developments made within society. On a formal level, Liu Liguo has sought out an avant-garde variation on Chinese traditional arts. His vision took shape as early as the midnineties in a series of ceramic ‘buttocks’; at first an attempt to express the duality and paradox existing between the vigour of the changes taking place and the cultural vulgarity that resulted from the consumer society that was achieved. Liu Liguo has attempted to modify the form of commercial statuary so that it might express the way in which modern culture has found form in China; to make of it an apt material for the manifestation of that modernity – both its failings and its innovative power – within which, despite everything, criticism and satire are able to maintain their essential meaning. Even more importantly, critical attention is given so that meaning is allowed to immerge in its integral truth, without neglecting the feelings of identification that we necessarily have out of fear of losing the characteristics of the 20th century Chinese ‘ego’.

Five days later, tragedy struck after a collision with an iceberg. This Exhibition offers a poignant look at the incredible human stories from the legendary RMS Titanic’s maiden voyage. At the Exhibition entrance, each visitor receives a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger aboard Titanic. Passenger details such as name, age, the class they traveled in and reasons why they were on board are printed on the pass. At the Memorial Gallery near the end of the Exhibition, visitors will find out if the passengers on their boarding pass survived the sinking of the Ship. The Exhibition brings visitors on a multi-sensory experience through the conception, construction, sailing day, life on board, the famous iceberg, Titanic’s sinking and the discovery of its wreck. The Construction Gallery, which focuses on the design and construction of Titanic, transports visitors to the famed Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast through Irish music and flooring lined with wooden strips. Before tragedy struck, Titanic was considered an engineering feat in naval architecture and marine engineering.

As visitors board the ‘Ship’, they will notice a fragrant perfume as they walk through recreations of the First Class Hallway, then into the First Class Stateroom. The scents, together with the luxurious furnishings and finishing, are just one of the many little things that will remind visitors of the luxury that was onboard the Titanic. Another highlight is the majestic replica of the Grand Staircase, a symbol of the Ship’s elegance. At the base of the staircase stands a reproduction of a bronze cherub reminding visitors of a bygone era. The Promenade Deck gallery, recreated for the first time in the Singapore exhibition, offers a view out to sea on the night of the tragedy – calm sea on a moonless but starlit sky. As tragedy struck, many passengers were thrown off guard. Their responses are captured and displayed in the Iceberg Gallery. This gallery also features an ‘iceberg’ that visitors can touch to feel the iciness of the seawater that Titanic passengers fell into when the Ship sank. Over 275 artifacts rescued from the Ship’s final resting place also offer historical insights into the life and times of travelers of that era. Artifacts on display include parts from the Ship, vials of perfume from a maker who was traveling to New York to sell his samples, china etched with the logo of the elite White Star Line, and personal effects of passengers like clothing, jewelry and postcards. Check www.marinabaysands.com/ArtScienceMuseum for Titanic-themed activities at ArtScience Museum. Also showing at ArtScience Museum is Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal, presenting over 260 artworks from the iconic pop artist.

Early Singapore Art 1st and 2nd Generation Singapore Artists Watercolour
Till 22 Apr artcommune gallery, Blk 231, Bain Street. #02-43 Bras Basah Complex
While the formation of the Singapore Watercolour Society in 1969 marked an important milestone in the history of Singapore art, the development of watercolour art in Singapore dates back to as early as 1940s. Between the 1940s to the 1970s, the British-influenced artists, many of whom were English-educated and dabbled in watercolour art, made up one of the three main groups of art practitioners within the local art scene. The other two dominant practices centered on the Traditional Chinese and the Nanyang style of art. For some three good decades prior to the eventual formation of the Singapore Watercolour Society, a group of vibrant and spontaneous artists would often meet up on Sundays to embark on plein air painting together. Principally led by Lim Cheng Hoe, a 1st generation pioneer artist most famed for his watercolour works, this group came to be known as the Sunday Group. The Sunday Group comprised artists and amateurs from diverse backgrounds who shared a common passion for watercolour art. A number of 1st and 2nd generation Singapore artists such as Ong Chye Cho and Ong Kim Seng were also among the participants. Some iconic locales captured during the Sunday Group’s painting outings include the Singapore River, the Merdeka Bridge as well as a collection of flavourful Kampung scenes. This exhibition by artcommune gallery showcases over 30 pieces of watercolour works by the 1st and 2nd generation Singapore artists. The artworks on display date from 1940s to the present and include rarely seen watercolour works by 1st generation Singapore masters, Cheong Soo Pieng and Chen Chong Swee. Other acclaimed 1st and 2nd generation artists

'Homework - Beyond the Laughter'. A solo exhibition by Sean Lee. Sean Lee uses humour, domestic objects and the medium of photography in his latest series of works to entertain his audiences through the 'therapy' of laughter. The process proved to be a jovial experience for the artist and his parents, the willing subjects, who took great delight in breaking from the mundane of daily life. Most of the artist's images were captured in his bedroom, a setting which served as a personal theatre for Sean to create his own living comedy of absurd situations with household items. At 26 years old, Sean Lee is already making a name for himself globally, with 8 international solo exhibitions under his belt (Singapore, Turkey, Spain, France and Cambodia) and 9 group shows (India, Turkey, USA, Singapore, Cambodia and France). With his artwork acquired by the Singapore Art Museum for their collection, Sean is attracting growing attention from public and private collectors alike. 03 – 24 Apr

Taking as its point of departure a portrait by Doris Duke of a beautiful but anonymous teenager, completed in 1955, this exhibition traces anonymity not only as portraiture, but as a series of guises that shifts our expectations of the uncanny, the strange, and the unfamiliar. Ruptures and Revival: Cambodian Photography in the Last Decade. This exhibition is a testimony of the recent revival of photography in Cambodia. Featuring seven bodies of work made in the last decade, this is the first attempt to showcase three “generations” of photographers within the same exhibition. From a redeeming portrayal of Khmer Rouge cadres forced into the revolution to a critical response against the filling-in of lakes in Phnom Penh for commercial purposes, from naked self-portraits that challenge the norms of society to an existentialistic and archaeological study of homes, this exhibition counters the cliché imageries of temples and beggars produced today in the name of documenting Cambodia. Till 01 Apr
Apropos: Jeremy Sharma. This exploratory exhibition takes us into the studio of the contemporary painter Jeremy Sharma, a Lecturer in the Faculty of Fine Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts. The exhibition focuses on the past two years of his work, selecting at least five distinct bodies of work, which explore the interplay between picture, image, painting and object, in the medium of enamels, lacquer, beeswax and oils. As Sharma observes, he is interested in the marks of human endeavour when one creates a painting and also of chance, silence, ambience, weight, and the aesthetics of absence and reduction. 12 Apr – 11 May
Chinese Bible: Yang Zhicao. For ‘Chinese Bible’, Yang Zhichao spent three years collecting from second-hand shops the personal diaries of overlapping generations. The 3,000 notebooks inscribed with personal writings span 50 years from 1949 to 1999. The writings reach deep into the very essence of feelings among the Chinese whether emotional, political or even mundane during a half century of monumentally changing times. ‘Chinese Bible’ displays not only the physical objects of the notebooks as an installation but also the process of collecting them. 18 Apr – 11 May

The Sufi and the Bearded Man: Remembering a Keramat in Contemporary Singapore. The exhibition re-members the keramat of a 19th century Sufi traveller from the Middle East who lives on in contemporary Singapore through her miracles and her shrine which was recently removed. Re-membering the keramat has involved a two-year long project of collaborating with Ali, an intermediary of the Sufi and custodian of the mausoleum referred to by fellow devotees as "the bearded man". These conversations culminated in the keramat and its life-worlds entering a museum, a transition animated by the display of photographic evidence, material remains or artifacts, anecdotal histories and related documents. “Koort Boodga” (Heart Land) Lindsay HARRIS Solo Exhibition. Combined with his deep passion for his country, the viewer feels they see an object, which allows them an intimate insight to boodja, his land. His application of a variety of pigments, ochre and resins creates the effect of earthy texture, which he feels connects him with the land. Lindsay’s intensely personal affiliation with his country is powerfully conveyed through his paintings, and creates a universal dialogue that draws the viewer into his world. 04 Apr – 19 May

Trying to make sense of himself, Sai rearranges, consolidates and draws his thoughts together. Till 15 Apr
