1326 Finally, by the Eucharistic celebration we already unite ourselves with the heavenly liturgy and anticipate eternal life, when God will be all in all.
“At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet ‘in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.’”
What Does the Catholic Church believe about the Eucharist? from the CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
1322 The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.
Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
of the Blessed Sacrament with 3:00MondaysBenediction-5:00PM
1324 The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” “The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.”
Your help is needed now more than ever! We encourage you to join in the following pro-life efforts: St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry Meeting Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in the St. John Paul II Room of the Parish Center, as we plan our program for the year.
Stand Up For Life
1327 In brief, the Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith: “Our way of thinking is attuned to the Eucharist, and the Eucharist in turn confirms our way of thinking.”
Please consider participating in any or all of these activities and bring a friend!

1325 “The Eucharist is the efficacious sign and sublime cause of that communion in the divine life and that unity of the People of God by which the Church is kept in being. It is the culmination both of God’s action sanctifying the world in Christ and of the worship men offer to Christ and through him to the Father in the Holy Spirit.”

St. Mary’s SVdP Society and St. Mary’s Parish Social Ministry office worked diligently together to gather most of what this small family would need to restart their life in their own home. We were able to get many items donated through the generous Manhasset and Port Washington communities; items like a TV, a blender, a microwave, and a toaster. We were able to secure very inexpensive used furniture through the Nassau County SVdP Society. We were able to provide bedding and clothing from our PSM office. And we were able to purchase some smaller items like a cooking set and some fresh pillows. This is only one example of the many cases our groups have worked on this year.
In late August, St. Mary’s Saint Vincent de Paul Conference (SVdP) received a call about a “neighbor in need” who was struggling with many hardships. To name a couple, this neighbor is a single mom with a little girl and the neighbor is bravely fighting stage 4 cancer. She is unable to work due to her treatments so her financial situation is a relentless burden. There was a bit of good news for this mother - she received word in August that her section 8 housing request was granted and she would be able to secure a home for herself and her daughter. While the housing news itself was a much-needed relief, she needed help in setting up her home. She had almost nothing of her own.
Both the SVdP Society and the Parish Social Ministry office at St. Mary’s are running strong and working tirelessly to improve the lives of those truly in need – those right in our neighborhood suffering through the vast challenges of poverty. Your generous donations (monetary, food, gift cards) are being put to good use daily. If you are interested in learning more about the gracious work our Saint Vincent de Paul Society does or contributing to that organization, please contact Neil Lucey (NeilLucey48@gmail.com). If you are interested in learning more about Parish Social
The Parish Social Ministry Office is temporarily closed for renovations. However, we are continuing to work from an offsite location. If you are in need of food assistance, please leave a voicemail at 516-365-2705. We will return your call within one to two business days. If you have a food donation, please place it in the blue bin in the south vestibule of the church. Thank you for your understanding.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516-746-8250. Thank you for your continued support.

In today’s Gospel we see that prudent decisiveness means that we recognize that all our choices in daily living are really choices for eternal life. Admission into heaven is something money cannot buy. The only currency that has any value to secure our entrance is that of love. As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering.

Leaders and Catechists are being invited to watch several webinars on a weekly basis concerning the Implementation of the process with the candidates and catechumens. The first webinar aired last Wednesday. More than 900 people watched the live airing. Many others were expected to watch the taped version later. Anyone interested in participating in the process should get in touch with Sr. Teresa as soon as possible The process prepares adults in need of Baptism, Confirmation and/or Holy Eucharist as each one’s needs require. RCIA and Adult Faith Formation
Now that the 2022/2023 year in catechism is here, I would like to extend a special invitation to join our wonderful program as a St. Mary’s Catechist. The return to inperson catechism and Catholic fellowship joyfully sparked a large number of students. Volunteers devoted to sharing the Gospel with the youngest members of our parish find that the experience grows their own faith, and deepens their relationship with Christ.
This is my body given for you
Will you consider devoting one hour a week to serve as a St. Mary’s Catechist? If you are interested in teaching the tenets of the Catholic faith to our students (Grades 1 -5), please contact me via the Religious Education Office (516-627-4028, ext. 1127). Classes begin September 29th!
Sister Teresa can be contacted about our OCIA and other Adult Faith Formation programs at 516-627-0385, ext. 1010. Her office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10:00AM and 4:00PM and other times by appointment.
The group, which has been meeting for more than seventeen years, and has been led by Ms. Danielle Cisek for many of those years, continues during the school-calendar year on Monday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 AM in the St. John Paul II Room. Former members, current and new members are most welcome. A copy of the Book of Daniel Commentary will be available for $17.00 at the class. COME and JOIN US!
The RCIA is undergoing an update in its language and function on a national level. The most noticeable thing is its name change! At this point in time it is referred to as the OCIA meaning “Order of Christian Initiation of Adults” rather than RCIA or “RITE of Christian Initiation of Adults.”
Dear St. Mary’s Family,
With gratitude, Mrs. Granieri
The Scripture Study Group at St. Mary’s will resume their study of Sacred Scripture with the reading and discussion of The Book of Daniel. Later in the season, informed by our study of the Book of Daniel, the class will revisit The Book of Revelation. The class uses the New Collegeville Bible Commentary series.
Children in today’s world, more than ever, need to know the infinite love that God has for each of them.
RICA is now OCIA

It’s time to honor married couples for their long marriages. When you chat with your relatives and friends and they talk about how they survived World War II or what it was like to serve in the 1950s Korean War you should consider honoring them. Please nominate that couple for the Longest Married Couple Project, sponsored by Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) starting today. Go to wwme.org longest married couple link to place your nomination or call 321-544-3440 or email dick.diane.baumbach@wwme.

our lives. Knowledge in the Bible informs us of the beauty and love of God. It also enables us to create a relationship with God - our own special relationship. God is always present and here and there and everywhere. Even though we were isolated from each other during the past two years, we were never separated from God.

The Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time | September 18, 2022
Our world is truly conflicted and divided on so many issues. We are trying to get our “sea legs” in terms of dealing with Covid and going forward by trying to normalize and reestablish our lives in new ways. Many are struggling with the isolation they experienced over the past two years and are trying to figure out how to re-enter life with a feeling of safety and meaning. Many people have told me that they are finding the world a very different place now.
St. Mary’s Adult Choir has resumed rehearsals on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM in the church. We are happy to likewise welcome them back to providing music for the 10:30 AM Sunday liturgies. The choir plays an essential and significant role in many liturgies throughout the year. We wish to encourage any one in the parish to join this special ministry. No special music skills are needed. If you are interested, please email our Director of Music, Robert Levulis, at: RLevulis@Stmary.ws. Please consider this wonderful ministry as a way to contribute to the prayer and liturgical life of our parish.
“Don’t fear, because I am with you; don’t be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will surely help you; I will hold you with my righteous strong hand.” (Isaiah 41:5)
Do you know that regrets are natural outcomes of wisdom? When we experience difficult situations, trauma and challenges, we are offered the opportunity to become wiser and more knowledgeable about finding new possibilities to manage and deal with our lives and to create new perceptions and patterns.
Music Ministry
The Time Has Come For Singing
St. Mary’s offers many opportunities to be in community with fellow parishioners and not only through attendance at Mass. There is a Bible Study Class that is held on Mondays from 10:00-11:30 AM led by Danielle Cisek. There are other many programs held at St. Mary’s throughout the year. Why not attend a program? Give yourself a chance to attain a better relationship with God and learn to self-reflect with the promise of creating a new present and future rather than focus on the negatives of the past.
The quieter period of life that we experienced during Covid gave people the opportunity to reflect on their lives. In this reflection, some struggled with feelings of regret that they experienced throughout their lives and are now having trouble finding the resilience to bounce forward and find meaning and purpose in their lives and free themselves of regrets.
Rather than drown in regrets, it is better to face our difficult feelings. Many times, we run from our feelings for fear of becoming too upset and overwhelmed. Rather than blame others or ourselves, if we learn to selfcorrect and create new present and future behaviors and thinking, we build new roads to experience life in a more peaceful manner.
GoYourself:EmpoweringLettingofRegretswithGod’sGuidance
In Session with Dr. Patricia Pitta
Focusing too much time on regret is the enemy of what is true in your life now and going forward. Work through those feelings in community. How do you do that? Speak with a friend, family member, a priest or psychologist. Rather than getting stuck on looking back, find ways to develop new interests and look Wouldforward.studying
