Greetings from the GM August is upon us. Only a month left to enjoy the pool, and even less time until school is back in session. Make sure you don’t miss anything this month. Let’s make summer last! July was a ton of fun. The Independence Day Celebrations were fantastic, and the turnout for the Junior Tennis Tournament and Pool games was huge! We are going to have more to offer in August and we invite you to come out and make it great. My favorite event of the year is coming up. I love seeing all of the creativity and passion for the Cardboard Regatta, although I’m really excited about this year’s Adult Summer Party at the Pool as well. Both should be great fun. I did want to give you all an update on the facility. As you are aware we experienced issues with both the upstairs and downstairs air conditioning units. We have arranged for temporary solutions to allow you to continue to enjoy the club, but a more permanent fix is coming. We are doing our due diligence and anticipate the work to begin relatively soon. In addition, the pool is back up and running at full capacity, ready to cool you off on these hot summer days. A quick reminder that the road work has begun on Country Club Rd. As I’m writing this, the lower lot only has one entrance/exit. We have repainted the parking slots closest to Country Club Road and changed the traffic pattern of the lot. Please use caution, as I know this isn’t second nature to those of you that have been here for years. The road work will be a bit of an inconvenience, but there will always be one of our entrances open for you to make your way into either the upper or lower parking lot. Please be conscientious as you are driving, as the traffic pattern will change around the club based on the work going on. Thank you all for being members of Salina Country Club! It’s a very exciting time for our Club and I’m very grateful that you’ve chosen to join us! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

Randy’s Corner August is “Championship Month” at SCC with the men’s and women’s club championships played on back to back weekends. The SCC Men’s Club Championship will be played on August 19th & 20th, followed by the Women’s Club Championship on August 26th & 27th. Both club championships will have flights for everyone and senior/super senior divisions. Sign up in the Pro Shop! Golf events this month also include Beat the Pros on August 3rd and Couple’s Invitational on August 4th, 5th, & 6th. The Men’s and Women’s Leagues will wrap up their respective seasons with the horse race and playoffs. Our Labor Day tournament will be a 2-person low ball with flights for men, women, and couples. You can make your own tee times and groups. We will begin taking tee times for Labor Day on Sunday of the previous week (August 27th), beginning at 7:00 am. We will alternate taking times by phone and in person. Each member may make a maximum of two tee times. Be sure to check out the end of summer sales in the Pro Shop. Many bargains are available for shoes, clothing, and equipment! Cart Traffic Reminder: This time of year the cool season grass in the rough is under a great deal of stress from the summer heat. Cart traffic can do a lot of damage under these circumstances. Please keep carts out of the rough as much as possible. If you must drive in the rough please limit it to driving directly to your ball and returning directly to the path or fairway. Please do not drive around looking for golf balls in the rough. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. See you on the links. Randy

The Setup
July is in the books and we look to finish the summer strong. We will start up our daily specials on August 1st featuring Taco Tuesday, Prime Rib Wednesday, and Fresh Catch Friday. Look for my weekly Food & Beverage Happenings emails for specifics each week. Thank you to all the members that made it to the July 3rd party and the 4th of July festivities. A wonderful turn out this year and we look forward to continuing this two-day tradition. Thank you, as well, to everyone that participated in the Wally Beets Classic. A great way to honor a man that gave so many years to the club. I’m happy to announce the Chef Eric will be featuring a Tasting Dinner this month on August 24th. Each course will be created around a different beer. In working with Chef to make this event unique I will be postponing the Tasting Series scheduled that night and will include a beer tasting for those that attend. You will have a chance to sample each beer that Chef has used in the creation of his dishes right before you enjoy the food. Make your reservations now for this unique and fun event. Enjoy the good times! Steven
Chris’s Comments
The summer seems to be flying by with the month of August already here. The golf course has done fairly well with all the heat we experienced in July. Some of the fairways had issues after aerification. During that process the turf was separated from the roots, so it essentially acted like newly laid sod. We did this right before the long stretch of high temperatures, and without rain it made it hard for the fairways to recover. As of right now the temperatures have cooled off some and we have received some rain. The fairways are recovering and looking better every day. I do feel over time aerification on the fairways will improve the quality.
While I am on the subject of fairways, I started spraying #10, 12, and 14 to kill the Bermuda inpreparation to sod them next year. Those fairways will be brown after a couple more applications of Round-up. The rest of the course is recovering from the heat, and there are some areas that we will begin to seed towards the end of the month. It is hard to believe that we are already thinking of seeding cool-season grass and that we are a month away from fall greens aerification, on September 11th and 12th. Thank you for your support and as always please stop me with your questions and concerns.

In the Kitchen Hello, everyone! It’s been a hot summer. Moving forward, the culinary team and I have plans to shake up your dining calendar. In addition to our regular menu, we will have daily features that will run for extended periods. With that being said, our frequent diners will always have some new items they can look forward to ordering regularly. In the month of August, we have daily specials every Tuesday through Saturday! Starting the week off, we will feature Taco Tuesday. Each Tuesday SCC will offer a different taco, rice, bean, chips, salsa, and churro option for only $15. Then on Wednesday Nights we will host our popular Prime Rib Night with a weekly potato option and rotate vegetables depending on what local farmers are harvesting. Every Thursday we will roll out a new weekend Prix Fixe, make sure to check your emails and SCC social media to learn about our menu options. Our weekly Prix Fixe menu will continue through Saturday, or until we run out of production. Every Friday we will prepare a “Fresh Catch” menu. This new menu will give you the opportunity to experience the taste of different fish and shellfish species from both coasts! But wait, there’s more! In the month of August, I will host a Chef ’s Tasting Centered around beer on August 24th. I will feature each beer in a signature dish and you can taste the beer on its own. Be sure to make reservations in Advance! Thank you for all your support and we look forward to seeing you in the upcoming month, Eric Shelton
