I want to start this by once again saying thank you to two long time employees of Salina Country Club:
Bob Warkentine has been a fixture on the tennis courts and has influenced countless SCC Juniors towards a love of the game. Jane Price has been the smiling face that greeted all of our guests. She has been dedicated to making every member of Salina Country Club feel like this place is their home away from home. They both will be sorely missed, and we all wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors. August is going to be a great month at the Club, with something happening for everyone. We invite you all to come out and celebrate the last month of summer. Highlights that you won’t want to miss include Men’s League Playoffs, Men’s and Lady’s Club Championships, and my personal favorite event of the year… The Cardboard Boat Regatta! On the Food and Beverage front, Chef and Steven have some really exciting events scheduled (including the return of Ladies Night Out): Pasta Night – 8/9 Fish Fry & Movie Night – 8/18 Ladies Night Tasting – 8/23 Fried Chicken Night – 8/30 You should have received an email with a link to the quarterly Financial Update for the Club. If you didn’t receive it, let us know and we will update your email address. It will be located under the My Club tab, scroll down to Club Governance and it will be at the bottom of the page. Just click on the “Third Quarter Financial Update”. There are some great things happening in August. I certainly hope that you are able to come out and take advantage of everything that your Club has to offer. Once again, thank you so much for choosing to be a Member of Salina Country Club! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

First off I want to give a large and heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Jane. Jane has been a fantastic associate of Salina Country Club and has been a larger help to me than can be said. We will have a create your own Pasta Night on the 9th, an all you can eat Fish Fry on the 18th and a Fried Chicken Buffet Dinner on the 30th. We also are happy to offer Ladies Night Out on Thursday the 23rd. Chef Eric will create a fantastic dinner tasting for the ladies. In addition I am creating my own flavor infused vodkas and looking forward to offering these custom creations to all the ladies. Starting Tuesday August 14th the Snack Bar hours will be changing: Monday 4-6 PM, Tuesday-Friday 4-8PM and Saturday and Sunday 11-8PM. Enjoy the good times! Steven

August is “Championship Month” at SCC with the Men’s and Women’s Club Championships played on back to back weekends. The SCC Men’s Club Championship Semifinals and Finals will be played on August 18th & 19th, followed by the Women’s Club Championship Semifinals and Finals on August 25th & 26th. We will have Quarterfinal matches for both the Men’s and Women’s Club Championships beginning August 1st. Golf events this month also include Beat the Pros on August 2nd, the Couple’s Invitational Tournament from August 3rd-5th, and the Men’s League Horse Race on August 8th; the Horse Race will be followed by the Playoffs on August 15thand22nd with the Finals on August 29th. Our Labor Day Tournament will be a Stableford event (an individual event), Eagle = 8 pts., Birdie = 4 pts., Par = 2 pts., Bogey = 1 pt., Double Bogey or worse = 0 pts., with flights for men and women. You can make your own tee times and groups. We will start taking tee times for Labor Day on Sunday of the previous week (August 26th), beginning at 7:00AM. We will alternate taking times by phone and in person. Each member may make a maximum of two tee times. Be sure to check out the end of summer sales in the Pro Shop. Many bargains can be had on shoes, clothing, and equipment! Cart Traffic Reminder: During his time of year the cool season grass in the rough is under a great deal of stress from the summer heat. Cart traffic can do a lot of damage under these circumstances. Please keep carts out of the rough as much as possible. If you must drive in the rough please limit it to driving directly to your ball and returning directly to the path or fairway. Please do not drive around looking for golf balls in the rough. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Rob Carlson

Fore Up
The month of August is when we normally have the hot temperatures, but it looks like the weather might be kind to start the month. I am getting ready for fall projects like over-seeding the cool-season turf. Right now we are finishing up the aerification of the tees, approaches, and a couple more fairways before the warm season turf starts going into dormancy in the next 6 to 8 weeks. I am continuing to push the recovery of the fairways and approaches to heal them in preparation for winter for not only next season but for the extended future. The newly sodded fairways are getting closer to filling in the seams. The large bare areas will be sodded this month before we get busy seeding and before greens aerification (September10 th and 11th) next month.
This month we are going to try something new, as requested by the Golf Committee, with the red and green enter and exit posts. The current posts will be replaced with 4 white posts that are 4 feet tall with painted red tips to serve as “gates to drive between in order to enter the fairway. The end of the fairway will have the same white and red gates to exit the fairway and return to the cart path where you will park to finish playing the hole. This is similar to other courses in the area and we will try this on holes 1, 2, 3, and 5. This will continue until we start our off-season cart rules at the beginning of October when the fairways start to go dormant. We would appreciate your feedback and if this is successful we will adopt this for next season. The purpose of this is to have only two traffic lanes to manage on each hole, an entry point and an exit point, rather than having the entire length of the rough between the current green and red posts. The more we can limit traffic on the cool-season rough during the heat of the summer the healthier the turf will be. Thank you for your support. I will see you on the course soon. Chris

Hello everyone! This month was a little warm outside. I hope you all had a chance to take a dip in the pool and have a frozen margarita. Both parties on the 3rd and 4th of the month were a blast. My favorite part of the holiday is watching the glow of the fireworks blanket the club’s golf course sky. Thank you to all that attended. We decided to mix up the calendar and provide a new dining option for our members with our Chopped and Tossed create your own salad action station. Members were able to customize the dish from a variety of proteins, and vegetables. We plan to continue experimenting with new special nights like this, so if there is anything you would like us to try let me know! Our Fish Fry Night was very well received and we look forward to bringing that back this month on August 18 th along with an All You Can Eat Fried Chicken Night as well on August 30th!
The next major collaboration we have coming up is our Ladies Night Out Tasting on August 23rd. I will be offering a taste of summer in conjunction with Steve’s fresh fruit infused vodka cocktails. We are both excited to step out of the box and bring you some imaginative new dishes. Stay tuned for details regarding this season’s Feast on the Fe to be held in September. In the meantime be sure to visit us for Food Inspired by Seasonal Harvest here at the club. We will continue to offer great specialty Weekend Prix Fixe menus all month long so make sure you don’t miss out. As always, I appreciate your patronage and hope to see you all soon. Eric
