The Holiday season is here and the Club looks beautiful. Wanda and her team have truly outdone themselves this year! If you have the opportunity, please thank her for her hard work the past two weeks. All of this is in preparation for an extremely busy stretch for the Club. There will be a lot of activity going on, and I hope that you are able to join us! Fantastic upcoming member events include: Golf Shop Open House – Friday, December 7th Breakfast with Santa – Saturday, December 15th Christmas Eve Dinner – Monday, December 24th New Year’s Eve Party – Monday, December 31st Just a reminder that the Club will be closed on Christmas day and New Year’s Day, and there will be no Food and Beverage service on Wednesday, December 26th. I do want to make sure that all of you are aware of the important events that took place at the most recent Annual Stockholders Meeting held on November 27th. In addition to the normal election of Board Members – congratulations to Sallie Morrison, Mark Skidmore, and Doug Alt – there was also a vote held to authorize the Board to develop Club land between holes 6 and 12. According to our Club Bylaws, specifically 3.4, Real property of the Club can only be disposed of by authorization of a MAJORITY VOTE OF ALL STOCKHOLDERS at any annual or special meeting. The proposed sale of land failed to garner the 102 votes needed to pass. For those that did vote, the response was overwhelmingly positive. 76% of members in person, or by proxy agreed with the Board that this was a positive step for Salina Country Club. The final tally at the close of the meeting was 65 members supporting the sale, 14 opposing and 7 abstaining. After the meeting was concluded, there were phone calls made by Board Members asking individuals why they hadn’t turned in a proxy or voted at the meeting. There were a number of further votes emailed in that night. For the sake of transparency and general goodwill of the Club, it has been determined that those votes will not count toward the final tally and the measure will not pass at this time. But the fact that the vote was so overwhelmingly positive, and that the initiative seems to reflect the will of the members of Salina Country Club, will lead the Board to consider bringing this item up for another vote in the near future. Once again, thank you all for being members of Salina Country Club! It’s a very exciting time for our Club and I’m very grateful that you’ve chosen to join us! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

Winter is a good time to look at re-gripping your clubs. Our annual re-grip special, re-grip your irons/hybrids and get the woods re-gripped for free, will run through January. Let us know if you would like us to look over your clubs to make sure they are ready for next season. Club storage, as well as men’s and women’s handicaps, will be billed out in January for next year. If you do not want either of those services for 2019 please let us know before the end of January. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a wonderful first year as Head Golf Professional. Each and every member and patron of Salina Country Club has made my first year very enjoyable! I look forward to many more years serving you here at Salina Country Club. Thank you and have a wonderful Holiday Season! Rob Carlson Happy Holidays! This seems like the first time we have snow on the ground and it truly feels like December.
Fore Up
We have had a couple good snow events already this season. The moisture has been great for the course. Our projects have been slowed down by the weather, but the crew has been busy getting inside work completed. The tee markers and trash cans already have a fresh coat of paint and stain and they are ready to go for next season. With the great comments about the gates that we experimented with this fall, we are in the process of building more so every hole will have them next year. The addition of the gates will help the traffic in the rough and provide better conditions. They will replace the red and green stakes once the in-season cart rules are back in play. The spring project list will include some tree removal, not as many as last year, to continue improving the health of the turf and the neighboring trees so we can keep the character of the course. The main goal now is the new fence along Country Club Road. That is our number one priority once we can get on the course. To maintain the long term stability of the fence we must carefully place each post one at a time. The railings are not all the exact same length so the measuring process is critical in determining each post’s location. We do have an auger on the back of the tractor to dig the holes so frozen ground should not be an issue. We will work throughout the winter until the fence is completed. Thank you for another great season and enjoy the holidays with your family. Chris

“Hello” Salina Country Club, Thank you all for such a warm welcome over the last few weeks. It has been a pleasure meeting so many of you, and I hope to meet those I haven’t in the near future. Coming in at a busy time of year has been exciting with Thanksgiving dinner, holiday parties, the Annual Stock Holders meeting, and just the day-to-day operations! I am proud to be a part of such a prestigious club and I can assure you that there will only be successes moving forward from your Food & Beverage operations. We are going to change from solely being a dining venue, to a place you come to enjoy a unique high-end experience. With December full of holiday parties, our focus will be event execution, members, and our employees. It is important that we get your feedback when we are able. Though not everything is actionable, we will always be an open ear and take your feedback seriously. We encourage you to utilize the comment cards or please, feel free to reach out to me directly when desired. With our team this month we are very focused on culture. It is important that we create a culture of excellence that fosters training and education, service standards, as well as genuine care for one another. We have mass training planned for January and these focuses will enable us to grow as a team to reach unimaginable goals in a short amount of time. Again, thank you for all of your support thus far. I look forward to working closely with all of you and being part of Salina Country Club. Warmest regards, Chris Nickell

Hello Everyone It is getting cold outside! Can’t you just picture yourself in the Grill Room next to the fire place enjoying our short rib entrée and a glass of cab? If so, make a reservation and join us for dinner! There are several events to look forward to this month. We have Taco Night on December 5th. We will be offering a taco prix fixe with warm tortilla chips and salsa, unique tacos, and cinnamon sugar dusted churros. You have to come check it out.
Breakfast with Santa is a beloved tradition here at the club. Come to enjoy a full hot breakfast with fresh baked pastries, carving station, and activities for the kiddos! Back by popular demand we will be hosting Prime Rib Night on December 19th. We generously season our ribeye’s and smoke them in house for 3 hours and cook them to perfect temperature just for you. This dinner will offer a healthy 12 oz. cut to be accompanied by a baked potato, and a seasonal vegetable. Just a reminder, when making your reservations for this event please let us know if you will be having prime rib so that we can be prepared to serve you. As the month winds down, we will also be preparing a Christmas Eve Dinner with an array of options. Come and enjoy traditional favorites and our shellfish enhancement. Make your reservations early! Last but not least, to cap off 2018 we have our New Years Eve Party. Start your evening off with cocktails as you mingle and enjoy snacks before we open our modern American/globally influenced dinner stations. This year we will bring back our greens station where you can customize your salad to your liking. Also, in addition to our crudite station, we will have a vegan small plate table so everyone has a choice when they dine with us. Let’s end 2018 with positive vibes and full bellies. One last request, the Food and Beverage team would like to update our allergy/dietary food restriction spreadsheet and we need your help. Please send your food allergies and/or dietary restrictions to Chris’s email address and we will update the current information, as well as build our pantry so we can craft dishes for the standing menu. We will accommodate any special requests our members may have. You can email Chris at cnickell@troon.com. Happy Holidays! Chef Eric

It has been a busy month for the membership. The decorations are up and we are ready for all the wonderful events this holiday season. Our Stock Plus mailing went out this month and we have had a great response from the stock members for this incentive. I am also excited to present the “Play Now Pay Later” membership initiative for 2019. This program applies to all membership categories and is a great way to experience all that the Club has to offer. There is no initiation fee and the first month’s dues are not billed until March 1st 2019 with a one year signed agreement. This is a great way to get new and former members involved in all the great happenings this winter at the Club. Please join me in welcoming these newest members to the Salina Country Club: Dauane and Laura Briggs Joe and Diane Gubbels Gabe Grant Laura Weiser Seth Vanmeter Tate and Hilary Richards Brad and Sandy Woley Enjoy this festive holiday season with your friends and family. Happy Holidays, Melissa
