Although January was cold and wet, the end is in sight. February is promising warmer weather and Spring is just around the corner. We should be back on the Golf Course and Tennis Courts very soon, and the Pool will be open before you know it. January was a fun month at Salina Country Club, and I certainly hope that you were able to take advantage of all that your Club had to offer during the month. February is going to be packed with events as well. I look forward to seeing all of you here during the month. Here are some highlights of what you can look forward to: New menu update is on the way Taco Tuesday’s continue at the Club SCC Happy Hour is Thursday-Saturday from 4-6pm Prime Rib Night Valentine’s Day Dinner The return of Burger Night There are also some construction updates that you should be aware of. The new wall separating Johnny’s Up and the Grill Room has been installed and the work should be completed shortly. I’ve also had some questions about the drilling trucks in the parking lot. Westar is going to place a new transformer on our property, and is removing the current unit. In addition, this is going to allow us to update our electrical equipment and give us some protection from future failures. The downside is that we will be without electricity for a day or two. I’ve been assured by the contractors as well as Westar that we will have advanced notice of the outages and we will be sure to pass those along to you as we find out exactly how we are going to be affected. Once again, thank you so much for choosing to be a Member of Salina Country Club! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

We are approaching spring! It is a huge relief to some people, including all of us in the Golf Shop. After what seemed like the longest winter of all time, the weather is looking better and better for at least the first part of February. You know what that means; it is time to play some golf. With some highs in the 60’s everyone should make their tee times and make sure to knock off that winter rust before the official season begins. With spring right around the corner, have you considered new golf clubs? Callaway just launched their new Rogue line which includes: drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, and irons. They are going a step farther than their hit club from last year, Epic. All our fitting carts carry Rogue clubs. We also have the new 718 Titleist irons in our fitting carts along with the Titleist 917 woods. The Titleist AP3 irons have been well received during their launch. If someone is looking for an iron that looks great and has the feel and forgiveness of a hybrid, this is the club for you. It gives you higher ball flight which allows for the ball to land softly on the greens. Call the Golf Shop to schedule your fitting. The 2018 Tournament Calendar will be finalized in the next week or two. If you are in need of dates to put on your calendar, please feel free to call and we can give you some tentative dates. In the meantime we have a few reminders: Winter Cart Policy: During the winter months please keep carts in the rough as much as possible. Please use the 90 degree rule when crossing the fairway. This will help the condition of the fairways going into spring. Club Storage: Winter or summer, the worst thing you can do to your golf clubs is to store them in the trunk of your car. Extreme cold and hot temperatures can cause the club heads to loosen. This will deteriorate grips over time. If you are not currently taking advantage of SCC club storage, consider it for 2018. The Club storage charge for the year is $150 which includes storage, cleaning after each round, handling of your bag to and from the cart, and minor club repair. We are looking forward to another fun and eventful year at Salina Country Club. We have some fun new events planned, as well as some old events with new formats. As the weather gets nice, please call the Golf Shop to make your tee times for either weekday play or the weekends. We will have plenty of available tee times! Hope everyone had a wonderful January and it should be an even better February! Rob Carlson

The month of February will be an exciting month for the Golf Course. This month we start the fairway project on #10, #12 and #14. The project should take about a month as long as the weather cooperates. First, we will remove all the dead grass, then level and smooth the fairway with a tractor and blade. Then we cut the new sod from our nursey and haul it back to the fairway. Then the sod is laid down, making sure the seams are tight against each other. The final step is to cut in the edges, filling in any gaps that might have been missed. After the sod has been watered for a couple days, depending on the temperature, we then roll the new turf out so the fairway will be open for play. The finished fairways will be cart path only until the grass starts to actively grow, so the roots can take hold. Regular play on these holes can continue as long as the divots are filled with sand. The Pro Shop will post the rules about playing on the new turf and the current cart rules. I am excited to start this project, after what seems to be the longest winter in the past couple years. The snow has slowed down some of the extra projects we had in mind such as: trimming more trees and fixing the net by the practice area. These projects will be taken care as soon as the weather warms up a bit. The crew and I are ready to get this year started. I hope to see you on the course soon. Chris

Hello Everyone! The activity in the Club during the month of January has dipped a little, and so has the weather. Feel free to visit the Grill Room for a hot bowl of soup or an amazing entrée to warm things up! A big thank you to everyone that has come to enjoy the Club’s Happy Hour specials. The Taco Tuesday special will be continuing through the month of February, and our Prix Fixe menu will continue to usher us into the weekend. I would also like to thank all who have joined us for the Sushi Social (say that 3 times in a row fast lol). Please remember to fill out the comment cards and let us know if the variety on our menus and specials are up to speed. We love any and all feedback you give us. I have a request to everyone who is willing to champion the growth of the community, please consider joining the Prairieland Market CSA. This is an opportunity to not only support the community’s economic growth, but you also get to experience the seasonality and diversity of the producer’s labor. So please support the CSA and go towww.prairielandmarket.org and get information to any questions you may have. Lastly, we will be implementing a small refresh of the current menus in the Grill Room and Johnny’s Up. We will have bar snack offering and a few additions for you to choose from. Thank you all for your patronage and I look forward to seeing you soon. Chef Eric

With nice weather just around the corner we are already starting to work on our Spring and Summer Member Event schedule including some new dining events specifically to welcome new and prospective members into the club. If you have ideas please feel free to let me know! Our New Member Social last month was a success. We had several new members to the club for a mix and mingle event. We served wine and mixed drinks and Chef did some wonderful appetizer bites for everyone to enjoy. We are also pleased to welcome our newest members Doug and Michelle Williams to the Salina Country Club. We have a lot to look forward to in the next few months. Before long the pool will be open, the tennis courts will be full, and the golf course will be fresh and green. Our annual kickoff party will be here before you know it. Make sure to look out for Men’s and Women’s Golf League sign ups and Tennis Socials scheduled for the Spring as well.
Please continue to share all of the events, dining specials, and activities we do here with your friends and family. We always appreciate it when you refer your friends and family to us. We will take great care of them, showing them all the great things that the Salina Country Club has to offer. Melissa
