Fall is my favorite time of year, and some of the best Salina Country Club traditions are just around the corner! September was full of great times and fun events at the Club. The Family Fishing Derby was incredible this year, with Gannon pulling an unbelievable 47 fish out of the lake in the two hour period. Our Value Nights continue to be popular. Taco Tuesday has been a big hit, and Pasta/Prime Rib Nights were also well attended. October is going to be outstanding at the Club. Chef will roll out his new menu and we will wrap up the month with one of my favorite events, the Fall Family Harvest. It’s also going to be Wine Month at the Club. Steven will roll out a new Wine List, and on Wednesday nights, you can enjoy 25% off on any bottle of wine from the menu. This is a great opportunity to try something new you haven’t tasted before. I do want to give you an update on the Country Club Road construction project. Marymount Road will be closed at Iron Avenue, and Country Club Road will continue to be closed as well. Members and guests will need to follow the detour signs through the neighborhood, using Crestview Drive and W. Park Lane to access the Southern entrance of our lower parking lot. Exiting the Club will be the same process. The upper parking lot will continue to be open throughout the construction. Just turn left after entering the lower lot and proceed up the hill to reach the upper parking lot. The City assures me that the detour will be well marked and I have asked them to include directions to Salina Country Club on their signage. I urge you to use caution when entering and exiting the lot, as the traffic pattern is new to us all. My understanding, as provided by the City, is that the overlay work will begin in roughly two weeks and that they are shooting for total completion around Halloween. I'm sure that we will all be happy to see that day! Once again, thank you all for being members of Salina Country Club! It’s an exciting time for our Club and I’m very grateful that you’ve chosen to join us! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

Ladies Tennis Association Fall Update Regular Wednesday morning drills will continue outside at 8:30 am through the month of October. Lessons will move indoors to The Pines in November and continue through the winter season. New members and tennis players are welcome to drop by during drills and learn more about the Ladies Tennis Association. The first Wednesday of every month, Chef Eric prepares a fantastic lunch for all the Ladies who participate after drills. The annual Ladies Tennis Association Evening Event is scheduled for October 25th with play starting 5:30 pm (or as soon as you can arrive) and dinner following at 7:00 pm. Please be sure to rsvp in advance.

Dylan started at Salina Country Club as an intern through his high school. As a result of his hard work he was hired onto the team. Dylan is always polite and eager to learn. He goes the extra mile to help cover shifts and assist others. Thank you and keep up the great work!

The Fall Family Harvest seemed like any other Fall Day at SCC, abnormally hot for the season, families gathered at the Clubhouse for a good time. Parents were trying to herd their kids like cats for the costume parade while they ran from one game to the next trying to get more candy than their sibling. There was a line out the door of Johnny’s to grab a brat hot off the grill or a gooey s’mores, so wandered to the first tee for the Hayrack Ride. A man in a white lab coat greeted me ominously, “You missed the Happy Hayride, come back next year if you want to survive…” Feeling brave I hopped on the trailer and said, “Drive.” “…Suit yourself,” said the man who I would come know as Dr. Tom Loudis. Little did I know I would be walking right into the blood-curdling hands of the MAD SCIENTIST!!!!!!!

Want to find out what happens next? Join us for the Fall Family Harvest on Sunday October 29th from 4-8pm for a night for franken-tastic fun for all ages! Fore Up With the start of October, it’s time to get the pumpkins out and watch the leaves turn. The team is starting to cut down on mowing and prepare for leaf clean-up and other projects on the course. Around the chipping green, we are cleaning the overgrown weeds and volunteer trees that have overtaken the net for errant shots. We plan to reset the posts and replace the net to cut down on lost range balls and enhance the practice facility. After the practice area is complete, we will repair the fence by the dam along #9 cart path and continue our tree trimming project. The dead trees along #14 and on the #10 tee box are also scheduled to be removed. At this time we are researching which options will best fill these newly open areas. Our goal is to find a balance between having a distinct and challenging course from hole to hole but also managing the heath of the other surrounding trees and turf. Strategic management of the trees is very important to the character of this course and ensuring great playing conditions. In addition, we continue to prepare for the grass conversions on 10, 12, and 14. The Bermuda has proven to be more resistant than initially planned. Usually I don’t complain about rain, but the unexpected weather put a delay on our spraying schedule which allowed the grass to grow back. I am confident the Bermuda will be completely eliminated soon by switching chemicals and timing of the sprays. In the meantime please continue to enjoy the course during this nice fall weather. Thank you! Chris

Bon Appetit Thank you to everyone that made Taco Tuesday such a success last month. We also appreciate our die hard high school football fans that have been enjoying Johnny’s late night every Friday. We will continue to offer great specials and late nights at Johnny’s for you this month. As summer turns to fall you will start to see some new changes in our Food and Beverage offerings. The new wine list will be available on October 3rd. Chef Eric and his culinary team will also start the new restaurant menu this month. We look forward to applying our creativity and developing new items for you to enjoy with us. We are also excited to offer our membership a unique tasting opportunity on Friday October 27th. Bob Campbell, an Advanced Wine Sommelier from Fess Parker Winery, will be onsite to share his expertise during our Wine Dinner at 6:30 pm. We are thrilled to host this event with Mr. Campbell and take advantage of his vast wine knowledge. Please join us for a leisurely evening of fantastic food and wine. Enjoy the good times! Steven

Salina Country Club | October 2017

Hello Everyone! Another month has been completed in the books and we are ready for the fall season. A special thank you to all of the members who attended our Ladies Night Out Event in September to try our Fall Restaurant Menu Premiere. This was a prime opportunity for us to showcase some new ideas and get immediate feedback. We are definitely interested in hosting another event like this again next spring. We are forecasting the release of the new revised menu on October 17th, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, we are going to start exhausting our current inventory and only order as needed to make room for the new menu selections. Over the past couple weeks we have been experiencing and increase in price on a variety of products we currently use here at the club. Items such as avocados, berries, and lettuce with a decent shelf life have been a struggle to source lately. In order to maintain the highest quality and best flavor for your dining experience we are planning to phase these ingredients out.

Until the new menu is ready we welcome you to join us for the return of Burger Night on October 5th and a new special called Loaded Potato Night on October 12th. I will also be collaborating with Steven and Bob Campbell to create the Fess Parker Wine Dinner Menu, scheduled for October 27th. Together we will pair some flavorful and exciting wine varitales with signature savory dishes, so make your reservations soon!

Chef Eric
