There has been a change to the House Rules that I want to make all of you aware of. With so many more of you taking advantage and eating on the patio space of the Upper Deck, smoking will no longer be allowed in that space. Smoking will be limited to the North side of the deck. We will place receptacles in the appropriate area. Once again, thank you so much for choosing to be a Member of Salina Country Club! See you at the Club, Brad McMillan

Congratulations to our 2018 Club Champions! Megan Dupy won the Women’s Championship. Bill Roberts won the Men’s Championship and Mike Currie won the Men’s Senior Championship, as well as Ryan Payne who won the Open First Flight and Jim Frush who won the Senior First Flight! The final SCC championship of the year is the Couple’s Championship on September 23rd. The format for the Couples Championship will be 2pm shotgun, chapman alternate shot. Flights are based on couple’s combined handicaps, and dinner will follow play. This is always a fun event so be sure to sign up even if you don’t think you can win the championship. We also are excited to announce the Ace Holes took home the Men’s League title last month in a fantastic match. Great job to everyone who participated in the Summer Men’s League! We are going to continue our Fall Men’s League this year and it will begin September 26th at 5pm every Wednesday for 4 weeks. We are also introducing the very first Fall Couple’s League this year. It will begin on September 27th and it will be at 5pm on Thursday’s for 4 weeks. Check your e-mail for information or call the Pro Shop with any questions you may have. The Labor Day Tournament is changing as well this year, we will be doing a Stableford event. It is an individual event where you rack up points on each hole. An Eagle is worth 8 points, Birdie is worth 4 points, Par is worth 2 points, a Bogey is worth 1 point and Double Bogey and higher is 0 points. We will have Gross and Net divisions for both Men and Women. We are excited about the turnout this year for all of the SCC Junior programs. Rob’s spring golf clinics, Junior Camp in May, and the two summer golf programs were well received and provided many golf learning opportunities for the SCC kids. Rob’s fall after school golf clinics begin on August 31st and go through October 12th. Just a reminder the course will be closed for fall greens aerification on Monday September 10th and Tuesday September 11th. The practice range will be open both days. Rob Carlson

September is one of my favorite months of the year. The weather should be cooler, even though August turned out nice. With all the rain and below normal temperatures, this is the time we start looking at fall projects. Aside from greens aerification on September 10th and 11th, we will start over-seeding the rough, green surrounds, and any other cool-season turf that is not up to par. That will include #8 and #16 tees that are half cool-season and half Bermuda. Those tees will be seeded so we can have a more consistent look going into winter. Next summer the Bermuda will come back, but we will have grass on the entire tee. During the seeding process there might be some tall grass in areas around the greens and in the rough where we will intentionally skip mowing to allow the seed to grow and fill in after it germinates. After all the seeding is complete we will continue sodding bare areas in the fairways. Another area that will get some sod work is the collar on #7. This will improve the issues with the goose grass that has creeped into the green. The trees will also get some attention later this month, starting with the dead trees and then continuing with routine tree trimming and thinning the canopy to allow more sunlight to the turf. The maintenance team and myself always look forward to these projects, especially in the cooler weather. I hope to see you all on the course this fall.

Fore Up

Chris

September is going to be a special month here at Salina Country Club. As we say thank you to each and every one of our members for Member Appreciation Month. For the entire month we will be offering discounts on all bar drinks and offering a family style complimentary appetizer every Friday and Saturday evening until 8pm. This is just a small way to thank you all for being a member at SCC. With the new month we are starting to enjoy some cooler weather as well. The Upper Deck balcony is sure to become a popular place to enjoy dinner while looking over the golf course. Get ahead of the curve and reserve your Upper Deck table when making your reservation. Every Friday Night we will be staying open until 10:30 PM to accommodate those members that are enjoying the high school football season. Come in and enjoy the Johnny’s Up Late Night Menu and a couple cocktails as you celebrate your team’s victory. Enjoy the good times! Steven

Hello Everyone! I hope you are ready for cool fall weather and football. The weather is temperature is winding down and the first quarter of school is upon us. Thank you to all players that occupied our course for Men’s League. It was a pleasure hosting you. I would also like to express my thanks for the women of the club that joined us for the Lady’s Night Out Tasting. On that particular evening we had a small intimate dinner where we celebrated the Italian pantry and intertwined Salina’s local produce to inspire our dinner. It was a great time and we always look forward to making special events specifically for our ladies. Next month our value nights are in full swing on Thursdays. Join us for Burger Night on the 6th, Stir-fry Night on the 13th, and Taco Night on the 27th. For Member Appreciation Month will be providing snacks to show our members appreciation every Friday and Saturday so come hungry! I am also excited to offer the Taste of SCC, a special preview of some of my fall seasonal harvest inspired recipes and menu selections. All members in attendance will have the opportunity to share their feedback so we can cater our next restaurant menu to your preferences. Lastly, I would like to invite everyone to attend the Feast on the Fe coming up on Saturday September 15th at 5pm. I will be one of many local chefs to showcase the wealth of local produce Salina has to offer. Tickets can be purchased at Prairie Land Market or Ad Astra Bookstore. I hope to see you all on Santa Fe or in the dining room soon. Chef Eric
