Bastards tells the story of an illiterate young woman who took on tradition, her own family and the Moroccan legal system for the sake of her illegitimate child. Deborah Perkin follows Rabha El Haimer over eighteen months as she tries to legitimise her forced marriage and protect her daughter from outcast ‘bastard’ status.

Magic Lantern

Tuesdays 20 January and 17 March 7.30pm (bar open 7.15pm) This event is FREE A bi-monthly series of Masterclasses for local filmmakers of all levels of experience. Featuring networking and discussion slots, you’ll have the chance to showcase and critique your own recent and in-progress work.

Young Filmmakers Wednesdays 14 January 25 March (not 18 February) 4.30 - 6pm • £63

A ten week course for young people aged 10 - 13 years: get your first taste of filmmaking action through experimentation and play, learning exciting camera tricks and creating fun snippets of film.

Filmmakers Anonymous

Thursdays 15 January - 26 March (not 19 February) 4.30 - 6pm • £63 A ten week course for young people aged 13 - 19 years: produce finished films from storyboarding to postproduction. Work behind the camera, act in a film or help out on set to create your own group film.

About the tutor:

Simon Davison is a TV and Film writer, director and composer. His work has included documentaries, adverts and feature films. He is currently directing the 5 Greedy Bankers with Pippa Haywood and Ramon Tikaram.

About the tutor: Matthew Dean studied Film and Animation at the Arts Institute in Bournemouth and has been teaching animation at Salisbury Arts Centre for 9 years. He has had plenty of experience entertaining young people and creating quality films and animations.

Essential Companions go free. Children under 8 must be accompanied. Reservations may be made for films for up to 4 working days. Refunds and Exchanges only apply if a film is cancelled. Our address is Salisbury Arts Centre, Bedwin Street, SP1 3UT. Parking is free after 6pm in the nearby College Street and Salt Lane car parks. We have two Disabled Parking spaces at the rear of the Arts Centre, accessed via Bedwin Street. Buses go from New Canal Street and Endless Street nearby and the train station is just a 15 minute walk away. Public areas are accessible by ramps or lift. A disabled toilet is situated on the ground floor with full baby changing facilities. Wheelchair spaces and front row seats may be reserved (subject to availability) by those with limited mobility who are unable to climb any steps. All other seating is unreserved. Infrared or Induction Loop systems are available.
