Feltmaking with Suzie Gutteridge
Mondays 12 Jan – 23 Mar (not 16 Feb) 7 - 9pm • £79 (plus materials) A ten week course for adults: open to all levels and abilities. You will be introduced to a range of techniques and processes using both wet and needle felting. The initial weeks focus on teaching techniques that can then be expanded upon and incorporated into projects in the later sessions as you explore your own ideas.
Life Sculpture with Charlotte Moreton Thursdays 6.45 – 9.15pm • £73 (plus materials) Block A: 15 Jan – 12 Feb Block B: 26 Feb – 26 Mar
Block A: working with a life model, you will prepare a frame and be guided through building up a life sized head in clay, bringing in character and expression as the portrait develops. In the final session you will hollow out the head in preparation for firing (optional, for a small cost). For inspiration you’ll study the portrait sculpture of the great artists, from Classical to 20th Century favourites. Block B: working in clay with a number of male and female life models, you’ll study human form and work on small sculptures which you can have fired for a small fee. You’ll look at the work of great sculptors for inspiration.
Suzie Gutteridge is a professional artist whose work combines a variety of techniques and materials, using predominantly paper, clay/ceramics and wool. She teaches and holds workshops for groups, individuals and schools and has been tutoring the felting courses at Salisbury Arts Centre for three years.

Charlotte Moreton trained at the Frink School of Figurative Sculpture and has been creating sculpture and teaching locally in arts centres and schools for 12 years.

Pottery with Jennie Gilbert
Wednesdays 21 Jan – 25 Mar 6.30 - 9.30pm • £130 (plus materials) A ten week course for adults: learn the basics of pottery making in a relaxed and fun environment. Learn new skills, working at your own pace. Whether you’d like to make an egg cup, bird box, vase or lamp base we will work out the most appropriate method of production. From pinch pots, coiling, slab pots and wheel work to handle pulling, spout making, decorating and glazing, we will cover the basics of them all. The more experience you gain the more confident your work will become! Jennie Gilbert is a professional potter. Originally trained in Swansea, she undertook a short apprenticeship in France before setting up her own workshop. She exhibits extensively and has work in collections in the UK and abroad. Hiro Takahashi studied ceramics at Bath Spa University after training as a pre-school teacher. She loves the art of making something out of clay and enjoys sharing her interest and passion in pottery by teaching people.

Youth Pottery with Hiro Takahashi
Thursdays 15 Jan – 26 Mar (not 19 Feb) 4 - 6pm • £90 (plus materials) A ten week course for young people aged 10+ years: a lively class full of creativity and discussion. A relaxed atmosphere for young people to lose themselves in imagination with various 3D ceramic projects. Participants can use numerous hand-building techniques as well as throwing on the potter’s wheel. Come and learn new skills, try things you can’t do at school and support and extend your school art projects. Surrounded by friends and banter, you might choose to undertake an Arts Award or simply come and realise your ideas in clay.

This fun class will help develop your child’s dexterity and imagination. Block A: the crafty fun begins with the creation of Humpty Dumpty using sawdust and grass seed. Watch his hair grow!
Block B: a celebration of spring with gardening crafts, including the decoration of an egg box for planting seeds.
There’ll also be printing with potatoes and found objects on fabric, funky finger puppets, masks and Valentine crafts.
There’s also the chance to decorate a treasure chest for storing favourite toys, mosaics and monster mayhem with old socks and recycled materials!

Scriptwriter’s Doo Dah: Writing for Stage with Angie Street Wednesdays 14 Jan – 25 Mar (not 18 Feb) 7 - 9pm • £79 A ten week course for adults: learn or develop the techniques of playwriting, examining extracts from contemporary plays and using writing exercises to free your creativity. Angie Street has worked as a Scriptwriting Tutor with the Open University and is a Script Reader with Bristol's Tobacco Factory and the TMA judging panel. Her workshops focus on exploring individual creativity using stimulating writing exercises and games.

Adult Contemporary Dance with Amie Hawker Mondays 12 Jan - 23 Mar (not 16 Feb) 7.10 - 8.10pm • £60 A ten week course for adults: these fun and friendly sessions allow you to keep fit and get creative through contemporary dance. The classes are open to all, whatever your experience, giving you the opportunity to practice contemporary dance techniques at your own level. As well as learning some set movement exercises you get the chance to have a go at choreography through creative tasks. These classes provide a great way to keep your body and brain active. Amie Hawker is a contemporary dance practitioner and teacher. Having been involved in dance since a young age she has worked and performed with many leading dance artists and companies, and was recently awarded a distinction in an MA in Dance Cultures from the University of Surrey. You will learn performance skills and, for the older classes, develop creativity and choreography. Throughout the sessions you will improve your flexibility, strength and range of movement, but above all, have the opportunity to express yourself. All you need to take part in these workshops is a love of dance! Katie Austwick has studied a number of different styles including Ballet, Jazz, Street and Contemporary. She teaches dance to children all around Hampshire, encouraging them to have fun with imagination and creativity. Harriet Dawson is familiar with all aspects of dance including Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Street. She has appeared in several dance productions in Salisbury including Salisbury Dance Exchange and Salisbury Fashion Week. Jigsaw: Salisbury Youth Dance Company with Amie Hawker Mondays 12 Jan - 23 Mar (not 16 Feb) 5.30 - 7pm • £79 By audition only. Next audition: Monday 15 Dec A ten week course for young people aged 14 - 18 years: Salisbury Arts Centre’s resident youth dance company provides high quality dance provision for young, gifted dancers. Within weekly rehearsals there is a focus on developing contemporary dance technique and choreographic skills, practicing exercises and choreographing new movement. Jigsaw works towards an array of performance opportunities throughout the year, including regional platforms, local community events and showcase performances. At least twice a year Jigsaw members have the opportunity to work with and make dance pieces with leading dance companies and artists at residencies, which this season includes creating a curtain raiser for Zoielogic. All members have the opportunity to undertake an Arts Award.

A creative panel of young people aged 13 - 19 years: take part in planning and managing events for young people, including Hijack Open Mic, Hijack All Dayer, Hijack Radio and other pop up events. Learn all the essentials of arts and event management, from creative planning to programming, booking acts, stage management, budgeting and marketing. In the past year alone UpstARTs have been involved in organising a unique youth music event at Salisbury Cathedral with a professional and local line-up, plus the biggest youth arts festival in the region and monthly Open Mic nights. It’s a brilliant boost to your CV and great fun to get involved, with options to complete your Arts Award.
A new ten week course for young people aged 13-19: work with professional musicians to explore popular musical genres and create new compositions, with performance and recording opportunities. Led by singer-songwriter Louise Jordan, you’ll work both individually and in groups to pen your own masterpieces. Matthew Dean studied Film and Animation at the Arts Institute in Bournemouth and has been teaching animation at Salisbury Arts Centre for nearly 9 years. That means he's had plenty of experience entertaining young people and creating quality films and animations. Simon Davison is a TV and Film writer, director and composer. His previous work has included documentaries, adverts and feature films including Captain Eager and the Mark of Voth, starring Tamsin Grieg. Zone Club Saturdays 31 Jan, 28 Feb, 28 Mar, 25 Apr 10am - 2.30pm (includes 30 minute lunch break) • £18 (parents and carers can attend for free) A music and filmmaking club for learning disabled adults, aged 16 and over: have fun making music and films with new friends. Activities are participant-led and past sessions have seen the creation of a musical kung fu film and a road movie about a car that runs on funk music! Previous Zone Clubs have been a huge amount of fun for everybody involved, with one parent commenting about their son’s enthusiasm: “He’s always keen to come to the club, he talks about it for days in advance: about the friends he will see there. He doesn’t do too many social things so it’s especially good for him.”

Access
We live in the deconsecrated Church building on Bedwin Street, Salisbury, SP1 3UT. Please note that the building will be closed 22 December - 11 January. You can park in College Street or Salt Lane car parks, which are free after 6pm. We have two Disabled Parking spaces at the rear of the Arts Centre, accessed via Bedwin Street. Public transport is easily accessible with the bus station just 5 minutes away and the train station a 15 minute walk away. Public areas are accessible by ramps or lift. A disabled toilet is situated on the ground floor with full baby changing facilities. Infrared or Induction Loop systems are available.
