LIZ SETTERBERG FRONT OF HOUSE STAFF
How long have you worked for SLFS? For about six months.
What made you want to apply?
I had recently moved back to Salt Lake City and was looking for a way to feel more connected to the city. The Broadway and Tower are staples in the local community and I’m very into that! I love and appreciate film and the arts, so it seemed like the right thing to do.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Free coffee! No, it’s the people, duh. My coworkers have become dear friends of mine. On top of all the movie talk, we share stories, music, books. I like that at any point I have a long list of movies to watch, or an album to listen to, all because coworkers have recommended them to me. Free movies aren’t bad either!
How would you say film impacts your life?
I’m very into storytelling (listening, not so much telling) and that is what film is to me. I love that movies give us a peek into someone else’s life; even if this someone is a fictional character, we still learn new ways of living and thinking and I think that’s very cool. Film has made me a more tolerant and open-minded individual overall. I also find it quite therapeutic to go to the movies, especially solo, so there’s that too.
Tell us about your life. What are some of your hobbies?
I’m really interested in Oral History and collecting people’s stories and learning about their quirks and eccentricities. I’m also very into cliche Utah outdoor activities, taking photos, wearing stripes, sending mail, Halloween, and getting treats at 7-Eleven.
What are your hopes for the future of SLFS?
I just really hope they keep showing diverse, quality films and that people keep coming to see them! Also, please sell the chocolate chip cookies from the Broadway Deli forever and ever, thank you.
What is your favorite movie and why?
It’s got to be Son of Rambow! It is genuinely tender and delightful and I feel quite attached to it. However, I can’t not mention Jurassic Park (nostalgia, Jeff Goldblum, dinosaurs). And more recently, Paterson! Man, it killed me.
