HILARY RAINEY
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SPONSORSHIP AND CORPORATE GIVING
How long have you worked for SLFS? Only 3 weeks. I recently moved to Salt Lake after spending 5 years in New York City working in non profit arts administration.
What made you want to apply?
Like I said, my background is in non profit arts administration and I was looking for a good fit for my skills that would equally challenge me. I found the perfect combination with SLFS. Working at non profits that provide a gateway for the community to discover new things they might not have had access to anywhere else is a big motivator for me. I am also very interested in provide access to art for the underserved communities where I live and SLFS is actively working to do this as well.
What is your favorite aspect of working here?
The encouraged work life balance. It is really important to work in a place that openly values your time and commitment because it makes you want to work that much harder and use your time more efficiently. It’s rare to find a work culture that encourages that, especially after spending to much time working in NYC. Add that to being able to discover a world of new film and it makes for the perfect position.

Why is film important to you?
Film marks milestones, can serve as a right of passage, can be a teaching moment, or just an escape from reality for 118 minutes. Film is important to me because of those elements, whether it’s the most sophisticated inaccessible film or a comedy blockbuster it all has a place in my life.
What do you like to do during your free time?
In my free time I can be found at Salt Lake Power Yoga, taking my dog out to explore the world, or anything that involves lounging outdoors. I also have a background in the music industry so I can be found at concerts when ever possible.
What are your hopes for the future of SLFS?
As a fundraiser, my hopes revolve around our sustainability. I hope that we can continue to engage our audience to support independent art houses by showing them the value with our content, supplementary events and outstanding front of house staff. The potential is here for tremendous success so I look forward to helping carry it out.
What is your favorite movie and why? I feel like I have a lot of favorite movies. I’m addicted to films that embarrass me like, Johnny Depp in CRY-BABY, but one respectable constant is THE PRINCESS BRIDE. It was my older sister’s favorite movie growing up so it became my favorite movie. I have seen it so many times, I have it almost 100% memorized. “Anybody want a peanut?”
