“My hopes for SLFS? Fostering brilliant experiences.”
ASSISTANT MANAGER What drew you to start working for the Film Society? An inperceptable field of resonance which controls my actions. It seems as though I am meant to be here. What’s your favorite aspect of working here? During the course of my time here, I have had the totally unexpected honor of meeting and understanding a series of profoundly lovely and vivid individuals. It is nearly embarrassing to be so fortunate. You’ve just been promoted to assistant manager, what has that experience been like? Not dissimilar to deciding to look after a four year old girl . . . but with much more assistance and, perhaps it is not unfeeling to say, lower stakes. Have you always loved film? As a young child I found film to be a very gratifying substitute for social interaction. Which, I believe, could be said to have fostered a strong love-feeling. But I cannot account for my emotions regarding film during my infancy or previous or future existence because I can’t remember. Indifference might have occured somewhere in time?
Directed by Marielle Heller USA | R | 102 min | Drama
Starring Bel Powley, Alexander Skarsgård, and Kristen Wiig
What are your hobbies outside of SLFS? I paint pictures and furniture. I draw curious figures and appealing words. I write countless mundane grievances and heartfelt observations in a journal. I embroider and fashion sketchbooks. I cook for people I feel affection toward.
of brilliant experiences. Which are also my hopes in general. When I care to hope. What is your favorite movie and why? Again, this question is nearly offensive to me. In the spirit of cooperation I will attempt to answer, even though I usually find the concept of a “favorite” absurd outside of certain circumstances which do not apply in my case. In this specific circumstance I will answer Dead Man by Jim Jarmusch, and offer as my explanation. . . dirt, dust, absurdity, irreverence, perplexity, sincerity, blood, death, poetry.
What are your hopes for SLFS? Hopes? I hope for unsiphoned goodwill and fostering

DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL
What kinds of films inspire you? This is an unwieldy question. Suffice it to say films which penetrate the nature of emotional reality out of sincerity and lack of hesitation.

y CUBA:93 MILES SLFS September 1-30 | Artist David Vogel | Photo Exhibit - Broadway Lobby Traveling the 93 miles from Miami to Havana is an opportunity like no other. There is a palpable feeling of unity in Cuba despite the equally present undercurrent of political disagreement. Decades of sacrifice simultaneously engender national pride and a desire for change. In short, Cuba confronts you with contrast and complexity, beauty and disarray. It is at the same time open, welcoming and opaque, the true reality of Cuba hidden in plain sight. Yet, somehow, it seems that all roads lead to a love of the place. Old revolutionaries and young capitalists seem to share a love of Cuba despite conflict and contradictions. While you are in Cuba you will surely experience your own uniquely complicated feelings about the place, but there is little doubt that you too will leave with a new found love.
