@SLFS
Conor LONG How long have you worked at SLFS and how did you start? This is my eighth year at the Film Society. I had a friend who worked at the Tower back then, Mike Heffron. He helped me get a job here.
Projectionist
Have you always been interest in film? Yeah, I’ve been making films since I was, like, ten.
How do you incorporate film outside of SLFS?
Local filmmaker & projectionist keeps the SLC indie vibe @tower
What’s that movie about? It’s called Point B and it’s a narrative feature about a group of physics students who are trying to build a clean energy reactor in their basement, but then they realize they accidentally built an incredibly agonizing and violent, one-directional, teleportation machine.
Directed by Steve McQueen UK | Rated R | 133 min. | Drama
Favorite thing about working here? I love the people that work here a lot; I love how, especially at the Tower, it has a record store feel, kind of, it’s very. . . people just come in and talk about film all day and I think I’ve learned more about film while working at the Tower during my college years than I did at the University.
What are your hopes for SLFS?
My hope for the Salt Lake Film Society is that it can survive all the changes, which it seems to be doing. And that it grows and becomes I love how the Tower has very successful. And the Tower stays a record store feel... people around forever, especially. I think the Tower’s important. Maybe we could do just come in and talk about more retrospective stuff in the future. film all day.
Like I said, I make movies. I’ve been actively making movies my entire life. I got my degree in film production and Asian studies at the University of Utah. We just finished our first feature last year and we got distribution.
12 Years a Slave
Favorite movie and why? My favorite movie. Uhhh…. I think one of my favorite movies is…. I’m gonna go with . . . I’ll give you two movies that I like. One of my favorite filmmakers is Kim Ki-duk and he made a movie called Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring that I love; I think it’s beautiful. He’s a master of interesting locations and really meditative films. But I also like Escape from New York a lot. Because it’s @#$%ing awesome and it h as a sweet soundtrack and an awesome 80s aesthetic.
