showcasing the best in american independents, international films, and documentaries

MAY 2017

May 19–20 | Broadway Centre Cinemas, 111 E 300 S | Free Admission

PABLO CRUZ Salt Lake Film Society welcomes Pablo Cruz (SIN NOMBRE, MR. PIG, MISS BALA) as our special Visiting Filmmaker for the annual Filméxico series, May 19 and 20, 2017. The series will premiere Cruz’s new film, THE CHOSEN ONES. Cruz will speak to the audience and hold a Q & A. Filméxico will screen two more features, THE YEARS OF FIERRO and THE CLOUD FOREST, plus a collection of short films. Admission to Filméxico is free and all films are in Spanish with English subtitles. Pablo Cruz established Canana Films alongside partners Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, making inroads in film production and distribution, by producing Latin American films that have an international appeal. The three partners also founded Ambulante, dedicated to bringing documentary films to places where they are rarely available. In 2011, Canana expanded into the US with Cruz spearheading its operations, striving to offer entertainment with underlying social themes for the Latin community living in the United States. Throughout his career, Cruz has produced over twenty feature films, four TV shows, and distributed over fifty arthouse and international films. Variety cited Pablo Cruz as one of its “10 Producers to Watch.” He returned to Variety’s pages as one of its “People to Know.” Join SLFS for this rare treat – an internationally acclaimed filmmaker presenting his work at Broadway Centre Cinemas on May 19. Admission is free.
