AMBER GENTRY FRONT OF HOUSE STAFF
How long have you worked for SLFS?
production work as well. I’m also a big fan of collecting outdated forms of music, buying too many books and hanging out in libraries, and being the mysterious and elusive girl who writes in dive bars. Puns are really great too.
Since July, so around 3 months now.
What made you want to apply?
I turned in an application in June, when SLFS was doing their Greatest Musicals showcase. I made it a personal goal to attend all the musicals, and filled out an application right after I got done with a showing of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. I’ve been hanging around the theatre a lot in general, and figured I might as well get paid to be here too.
What are your hopes for the future of SLFS? Aside from more people taking advantage of late night summer movies and late night tower of terror, I’d like to see more people becoming involved in the different programs we have to offer as well. I’ve been in a Screenwriters workshop since early March, it’s a year long writing program that gives budding writers a space to craft the script that’s begging to crawl out. Lots of classes and talks from established screenwriters, as well as opportunities to share ideas with other like minded individuals.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The communal tarot deck we keep under the counter at Broadway... being able to talk and discuss movies with other like minded individuals is also a great perk. No judgements with any coworkers! We all have our loves and hates and are all very understanding when it comes to high brow to trash to whatever lies in between.
How would you say film impacts your life?
SEE THESE WHILE YOU STILL CAN
Everyday when I wake up in the morning and dress myself, I ask “Is this something that a John Waters character would wear?” If yes, then I’m ready to go about my day. It’s also a great feeling to be able to go into a crowded

movie theatre, and for 2 hours everyone is sharing the same sadness, humor- the same colors and music and movie, and for a brief moment a crowd of strangers all share something in common.
Tell us about your life outside of SLFS. What are some of your hobbies?
Slowly climbing my way to the top of the radio world! I do a lot of board operations and light
What is your favorite movie and why?
I can confidently say that I am the world’s #1 Batman and Robin fan, a title I will hold until my death and beyond. In general, I enjoy kitsch, camp, darker subjects, bright colors, and great soundtracks. Pink Flamingos, Romeo + Juliet, Blue Velvet, Lost in Translation, and always always ALWAYS Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind.
