movie that I’m really familiar with, close my eyes and just let myself fall asleep in that world which I love and know so well. Film provides an escape as well.
When you’re not here, what do you like to be doing?
FRONT OF HOUSE STAFF
I love being outdoors and going hiking or fishing or camping. I also play quite a bit of golf with my dad and downhill ski in the winter. My other artistic passion is live theater, and I just graduated from the University of Utah with my Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in acting. One of my favorite events the Film Society hosts is the National Theatre Live performances at the Broadway once a month in the fall!
How long have you worked for SLFS? I’ve been at the Film Society since December of 2013.
What first made you want to apply?
Well... I would love to say that it was because of some intense passionate love I had for cinema or a burning desire to bring independent film to the community through non-profit work or some other really noble reason... but honestly I just wanted to see movies for free. You see I used to have a chronik pass with my Mom, but then I went to college and she stopped paying for my pass, so I was like “Shoot, how will I see cheap movies now?” I talked with Marcus and Guy, who I had made friends with at the Tower, and they were like “why don’t you work for us??” So I applied, and after a painstaking interview with Stephen, in which I told a very long and not very funny joke, I actually got the job! So now I get to see all the free movies I want mwaha!
I feel like I’m always being challenged or intrigued!
What keeps you here?
Why is film important to you?
So after working at the Film Society for a while, I really started learning a lot more about movies, like film history, and different directors I’d never heard of, and soon film became more than just a source of entertainment for me because I really started understanding the artistry behind it. I love the Film Society because I work with people from all different walks of life, with different interests and working here

What are your hopes for the future of SLFS?
I just hope the Film Society can continue to grow and thrive and keep bringing independent and foreign film to the community so we can all continue enjoying it!
What is your favorite movie and why?
Film is important because it’s story telling that reaches me on a visceral level. Being in a dark theater, with a massive picture in front of you and sound from that world all around you, it’s very easy to lose yourself in what you are experiencing. I find very few other things in life that can overwhelm your senses that completely. I also just find a lot of comfort in movies; one of my favorite things to do late at night is to pop in a

ONE of my favorite movies, and my goto answer whenever anyone asks this impossible question, is THE GOONIES by Spielberg and Chris Columbus, directed by Richard Donner. It’s one of those super-familiar, comfort movies to me that still makes me actually laugh out loud every time I see it! To me it is a perfectly imperfect movie. There are SO many flaws in that film, but what makes it perfect is that every flubbed line, continuity error, and plot hole actually ADD to the film’s charm! They are a bunch of kids being authentically committed to the circumstances and stakes given to them, and because they are so truthful and fearless in their characters, they are free to play and screw around and to me it’s a joy to watch!
