SEPTEMBER 2017 Art House Theater Day celebrates the art house theater and the cultural role it plays in a community. It is a day to recognize the year-round contributions of film and filmmakers, patrons, projectionists, and staff, and the brick and mortar theaters that are passionately dedicated to providing access to the best cinematic experience. What to expect at a Trent Harris premiere . . . well
WELCOME TO THE RUBBER ROOM
Red Carpet World Premiere Friday, September 22, 2017 Featuring filmmaker and beloved local weirdo Trent Harris Trent Harris’ RUBIN AND ED is a bona fide cult classic. How could it not be with Crispin Glover in platform shoes and a water-skiing cat? It’s very first screening was at the Tower Theatre in 1991. The theater had been closed for years so it took at bit of dusting and some new paint to get ready. Movie star Karen Black showed up, and so did five hundred film buffs. Crispin put his name in cement. People dressed like cats. There was even a shoe flipping contest. Harris followed up a few years later with his PLAN 10 FROM OUTER Director Trent Harris SPACE premiere, again at the Tower. Movie stars, hubcap wearing barber shop quartets, Brazilian marching bands, it was a real send off for a local movie that broke national box office records the week it opened. Well, here we go again with . . . drum roll please . . . the World Premiere of Harris’ new feature, Welcome to the RUBBER ROOM. The nuttiness begins at 7:30 September 22 at the Tower Theatre. Be on the lookout for filmmaker and beloved local weirdo Trent Harris, strange movie stars, stranger people, the strangest door prizes and a terrifically strange movie! We don’t want to give away too much but we can say there will be a nurse in the lobby in case anyone has a heart attack. Get your tickets early!
