preserve
Try to pick from different locations rather than stripping everything from one area or plant. Also, don’t pick anything if there is only a small amount left.
Making preserves such as jam and marmalades gives your foraged foods a much longer life, allowing you to enjoy seasonal foods all year long. Jars can be bought fairly cheaply or you can sterilise used jars.
are you sure? Unless you are 100% sure of what something is then do not pick it. Foraging can be dangerous if you pick things you are uncertain of.
careful where you pick Pick away from busy roads and if you are foraging in dog walking areas pick only from higher areas. One of the benefits of foraging for food is that there are no chemicals, so avoid picking anything that could be contaminated.
seasons Be aware of the seasons and find out what you can find through the year. Our guided foraging walks are a great way to start or build on this knowledge.
follow the rules Don’t pick on private property, unless you have permission, or in conversation areas. You are also not allowed to use foraged pickings for profitable gain. Have fun foraging but be mindful of these rules.
