High quality, handmade and cou ture, ready to wear and bridal designer SANDRA WEIL is one brand that we like to touch base with every now and again for an insight into what the sophisticated, confident woman will be seen in next season. Sandra has been busy promoting her Spring/Summer 2016 collection so we thought we’d take this opportunity to get the skinny on her latest designs and what’s to come for a brand that is staying close to its Latin roots with every line it introduces to the catwalk.

TCL: What have you been up to since we spoke last summer? SW: I have been working (a lot), and growing the family! TCL: What have you been up to since we spoke last summer? SW: My personal style has always been the essence of every piece I design and living in a city as vibrant as Mexico definitely inspires and motivates me.

SW: The SS16 collection is called Susana after my grandmother and every piece in the collection is named after a member of my family from that side. SW: Overall we have witnessed a really positive response towards the collection. We are very satis fied and it is very rewarding to know that my designs can make such a strong impact on the people dressing in them... it is just so intimate. We want to connect a woman with her femininity through the clothes she is wearing, and empower her in a very beautiful yet del icate way, so she can share her essence with everyone and ev erything around her.

The upcoming FW collection is called Fortuna - which translates as ‘for tune’ - and we are playing with the concept of good luck. We wanted to share good vibes with all the people who surround us, and with all the women who wear us! It is a very fun and eclectic col lection with retro vibe and 70s in spiration.

TCL: What words of wisdom would you pass on to our readers in regards to dressing for the new season ahead?

SW: This new season brings fresh colours, lots of embroidery and many flowy silhouettes. The core of our brand is classic yet unconventional so I encourage readers to mix and match textures and prints, old and new, and explore different contrasts in every outfit.

DESIGNER FOCUS Liz Nehdi is an American artist and designer currently based in London. Having studied and travelled across the world, she decided to launch her own brand The Liz Nehdi back in 2015. Aiming to introduce a new way of life that celebrates creative expression and all the beautiful complexities of the global village in which we all live.

– Liz Nehdi –

Thanks so much for including Liz Nehdi Studio in your Investment issue and I do think this issue is a perfect fit for us, as we produce wearable art, which is inspired by my paintings and a global panoply of influences, and accentuated by the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Our limited edition garments and accessories are designed and hand crafted in Europe with great care and our hope is that they will become some of the most cherished pieces in your wardrobe that can be counted on to provide a distinctive finishing touch to a variety of outfits. I’m a bit of a human sponge; I’m constantly observing, absorbing and photographing the people, places

and things around me. The art world, interior design, plants, flowers and travel are particularly rich sources of inspiration for me; my taste is very eclectic and wideranging. In addition to physical mood, I use Pinterest as a massive online mood board to catalogue some of these inspirations I’m very fortunate to have had the chance to live in the United States, France, Singapore and the United Kingdom so far and I do indeed count traveling as one of my favourite activities. I find that by disrupting my usual environments and world around me with a fresh perspective routines, travel allows me to experience the and I’m more likely to slow down and appreciate the glorious details of the space and people around me. In this way travel helps to nourish and feed my soul and stimulate my creativity. And from a practical perspective, I (try!) to pack as lightly as possible and generally depend on simple wardrobe staples and then count on

THE ONES TO KNOW Kara Kroeger

FINE ARTS: FASHION DESIGN - Kent State University, Ohio , USA The first inspiring stages of creating garments and accessories starts with the designs. This then develops into sketches and samples, before the final stages of tweaking and refining occur. Kara Kroeger is an incredible upcoming designer and implicit artist from the US, who believes that fashion is about creating a personality so that someone can show the best versions of themselves. Kara studied at Kent State University in Ohio, an alternative place of study compared to places like New York and Paris. Her degree has led Kara to many incredible opportunities and has allowed her to create pieces that everyone wants to get their hands on, but to her, fashion is a fantasy and she loves to create it. What are your influences and inspirations that led you to Fashion Design? Honestly, I’ve never wanted to do anything else! When I was around eight years-old, my grandmother gave me my first Vogue Magazine, and that is when I realised I could have a career doing something I truly loved. Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time and hope for within your career? In five years, I would love to be working for a couture house in Europe, or gaining experience here in the United States to create my own collection.

What do you like and dislike about the industry you are in? I love that there are so many different areas and opportunities in this industry! There is no possible way to limit yourself. My least favourite part is the competition. Yes, competition is great and healthy, but sometimes it becomes the only thing that is important to anyone. This industry is about creating confidence, and we need to see it for how positive it truly is.
