everyone’s talking about...

BABY BOOMERS MILEY & LIAM

Recently reconciled couple Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are reportedly having their first baby together. The Wrecking Ball singer and her Hunger Games beau, who reconciled in January after breaking off their engagement in 2013, have not yet issued a public statement but a source has revealed to Life & Style Magazine, “It is very early on, but Miley has announced to a select group of friends that she´s expecting. She´s been feeling nauseous all the time and knew deep down that she might be pregnant.” Miley has also been seen flashing her 2012 engagement ring of late adding fuel to the fire that the couple are due to wed. Hollywood shotgun weddings? We love a bit of drama.

BLAC & ROB

One celeb couple who will definitely be with child later this year is Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian who have already shared their new baby scan pic with the world. The recently engaged couple took to Instagram to share the 12-week scan pic saying fairytales do come true. "For a long time I felt like King was going to be an only child. That he was my greatest blessing and we were gonna live happily ever after together Just the 2 of us, I was no longer looking for love because I thought I had all that I needed. We needed,” Chyna wrote. "But look at God! Here I am engaged to be married to one of the greatest men I know who loves King & I unconditionally AND having another bundle of joy! I just want to say Never give up & ALWAYS have faith because fairytales do come true #LookAtOurLittleNugget #KingsGoingToBeABigBrother.”

GWEN & BLAKE

Gwen Stefani is reportedly expecting her first baby with boyfriend and X Factor co-star Blake Shelton. The couple, who met on the set of US X Factor last year, have yet to announce the supposed new addition, but also (interestingly!) have done little to quash the pregnancy rumours. However, it is no secret that Gwen wants to have a girl and was always keen to try for a fourth child. Gwen has boys Kingston, Zuma and Apollo from her 13-year marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. While pregnancy rumours have not been directly addressed by either star, Blake is quick to gush about what it´s like going out with the Hollerback girl! "I just like being with her, but when she's all dolled up and we go places, it's always fun for me. If she was here right now, not one person here would be looking at anybody else but her. It's just cool to know that's who I came here with. They may come up and talk to me, but it's only because I'm one person over from her. Pretty cool." We think you're pretty cool Blake!

JAMES MCAVOY NEW ROMANCE

Is this the beginning of a new X-Men adventure?! The co-stars James McAvoy, 37 and Alexandra Shipp, 24 have been seen getting cosy since his recent split from AnneMarie Duff. McAvoy was very open about the marriage ending with his X-Men cast and crew and has since developed a closer relationship with Shipp. The two were spotted at the X-Men: Apocalypse party together and have been keeping things on the down-low due to McAvoy and Duff still being married. McAvoy admitted that falling for a co-star is nothing new as his relationship with Duff sparked from working together on Shameless 2004 and a source noted that it's "no great secret how they've got close" since the announced divorce. Although it all seems new and exciting McAvoy has always expressed how he would never work alongside Duff, turning down numerous starring roles together as "you make yourself a target and your relationship a target." So what will that mean for the future romance of these two stars?

CALVIN CAR CRASH

Scottish DJ, Calvin Harris is lucky to be alive after his Cadillac collided head on with a VW Beetle on the 20th of May. Harris was forced to cancel two shows after the accident but is back in the game for his weekend performances. He was checked out of hospital with several minor injuries but is making a quick recovery for his fans. His girlfriend Taylor Swift was the first to rush to the hospital to see Harris after his accident even though he claimed he "didn't want to alarm her." Swift was still willing to jet to LA to be with him and has since claimed to cater to his every need.

SPLITSVILLE FOR OSBOURNES?

The Osbournes have experienced their fair share of ups and downs but will the latest cheating allegations make or break them? After suspecting Ozzy was cheating for sometime, Sharon finally found proof good enough to kick him out of their $10 million mansion. Blonde bombshell hairstylist Michelle Pugh, 45 admitted having an affair with rocker Ozzy - despite his 34 year marriage to Sharon. Yet this comes at no surprise to Sharon as she had previously found him in bed with two of their nannies at different times. Sharon admits "they were the bane of my existence. They all wanted to be celebrities. They all wanted money." Taking him back after their 30th anniversary after Ozzy's drug problem, is Sharon finally taking action on what she said all those years ago? "You either accept them as they are or you go."

BONHAM CARTER & BURTON SPLIT

After 13 years of partnership the film industry power couple decided to part their separate ways. The 49 year-old actress and the 56 year-old director, from hit films such as Alice in Wonderland and Edward Scissorhands, broke up earlier this year after Burton had been revealed to be having an affair with his production assistant, Berenice Percival, 39. Bonham Carter tried to salvage the marriage by defending it as a "midlife crisis" and it has only just been revealed they were living separate lives for just over a year before the definitive split. Since the break up both have been in relationships with other people and Burton is now still in a relationship with his assistant, However, the pair still 'hang out' for the sake of their children despite Helena's efforts to save their broken marriage.

FOR HIM WHAT'S TRENDING...

Stripes just moved to a whole new level

Guys, stripes have always been a good safe bet when it comes to clothing, but they have taken on a whole new leaf and have become even more stripy (yes really!) and it has become the new IT trend for this summer season. It is all thanks to the co-designer of Ovadia & Sons. The designer sent an image of a beach blanket he was perplexed with whilst on holiday in Mexico to his brother who then turned the inspiration into a long sleeve jumper with a complex interlay of red, black and white stripes. A few months later that exact piece made its debut at New York Fashion week teamed with white jeans. Many designer brands such as Paul Smith have broken away from the standard stripes with a radical approach to colour and composition. The new trend of the old favourite will let you refresh your wardrobe and will take you out of the usual dull striped top and jeans combo! The head designer of J Crew states that ‘the finer the stripe, the easier it is to wear’. A main tip which we can share with you is to slide a striped top under a solid button up or a navy sports coat so that the stripes just slightly peek through. Pair the trend with slim black cropped trousers and plain trainers - keep it simple with stripes as less is definitely more!

Beyonce swears by her false mink eyelashes and won´t leave home without them. She uses strips by Velour called ‘Are Those Real‘ priced at €29 a pair. We´ve found Lashes by Diva, that are only €4 a pair, are made with the highest quality hair, handcrafted, cruelty free and use 100% sterilised premium human hair. These lashes are loved by celebrities such as DJ Sarah Crawford and Emma Watson. news FASHION TRIED & TESTED - LIP PLUMPERS

We are always on the lookout for plumper lips after seeing our favourite A-Listers rocking their killer pouts. Lip plumpers are filling the shelves of all our favourite beauty brands giving you fuller lips without enduring invasive surgical treatments. Our testers have chosen the best two on the market and put them to the test. PLUMP IT - VOLUMIZING LIP PLUMPER Once applying this plumping gel you get a very strange tingly sensation, the pain isn’t unbearable but it definitely comes as a bit of a shock! Our testers did notice the difference to their lips only after they applied the plumper numerous times but even then it was only a minimum effect for the discomfort it caused. The best feature is that the plumper is 100% paraben free and is designed to be used with your favourite lip gloss/lip stick. Rocks Rating: CANDYLIPZ Candylipz works by suctioning the lips to achieve a temporary yet fuller pout. Our tester placed her lips in the apple sized object and allowed suction to take place for 6 minutes, it is advised not to use this for more than 10 minutes otherwise a mark will be visible beneath your lips. We found that 6 minutes was a perfect time for double lobed lips and 3 minutes for single lobed lips. If you’re a first time lip plumper the Candylipz does make a difference, although the effects don´t last that long. Rocks Rating:

RECIPE

news

LEMON HERB CHICKEN SKEWERS WITH BLUEBERRYBALSAMIC SALSA This is a perfect summer recipe as it is light and packed full of flavour. Great for your waistline as well as your tastebuds. Blueberries are the standout ingredient for the sweet and sour sauce that accompany these healthy grilled kebabs. You can also serve any leftover salsa on bread with creamy camembert or tangy goat cheese.

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

1 garlic clove 1/4 cup chopped fresh flatleaf parsley 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (optional) 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided 4 skinless, boneless chicken thighs, each cut into 6 pieces (about 1 pound) 1 cup blueberries, divided 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 1/2 teaspoon honey 2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion 1 teaspoon minced jalapeño pepper Cooking spray

30 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 21

METHOD

1. Drop garlic through food chute with food processor on; process until chopped. Add parsley and next 6 ingredients (through black pepper); process until finely chopped. Add 1/8 teaspoon salt; pulse to combine. Combine herb mixture and chicken in a medium bowl; toss to combine. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour. Wipe out food processor. 2. Combine 1/2 cup blueberries, vinegar, and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low, and cook 10 minutes or until thickened, pressing with a spoon to break up blueberries. Place blueberry mixture in a medium bowl. Add remaining 1/2 cup blueberries to food processor; pulse 5 times. Combine chopped blueberries, 1/8 teaspoon salt, onion, and jalapeño pepper with vinegar mixture. 3. Preheat grill to medium high heat. 4. Thread 6 chicken pieces evenly onto each of the 4 (8-inch) skewers. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Place chicken on grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 10 minutes, turning occasionally. Serve with blueberry salsa.

WINE MATCH Any dish with lemon has a high level of acidity, which will make any wine you drink taste sweeter. So although pairing a citrusy Sauvignon Blanc may seem like a natural choice it should be avoided as it could make the wine taste flat. A far better option would be to go for a neutral Italian or Spanish wine – something earthy like a Verdicchio, an Albarino or Spain´s up and coming white Godello. If you are not up for hunting in a good wine merchants, a mid-priced range Pinot Grigio from your local supermarket could always do the trick. If red takes your fancy, opt for a red with a marked acidity of its own like an Italian Valpolicella or tannic Chianti. An oak-aged Spanish red such as Rioja Reserva also tastes great with lemon and chicken. Salut!

THE CONJURING 2: THE ENDFIELD EXPERIMENT

NICK JONAS: LAST YEAR WAS COMPLICATED

RICH AND PRETTY RUMAAN ALAM

In the second instalment Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren in their most terrifying paranormal investigation to date. The film follows them travelling to an Enfield council house to help a single mother who is raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits. Over the course of the investigation the Warrens witness levitations, dematerialisation and have conversations with the actual demon itself. The case that the duo are looking at occurs in the late 70’s and centres on two sisters located in Enfield that were possessed. The allegedly true story says that the real Lorraine Warren saw them levitate and contorted in such an unnatural way that they couldn’t have replicated it themselves naturally if they tried. Director of the first film James Wan took the lead on this film too. He managed to fuse the limited studio budget with a strong sense of artistry for a creative and chilling end result. The writers of The Conjuring 2 felt it was necessary to focus on one of Warren’s lesser-known cases, much in the same way they did with the case from the first movie. The film causes a lot of hiding your face in your hands moments but is definitely a great follow up from the first instalment. The film has an element of borderline minimalism, with the main key feature being that it relies on building visual atmosphere. Expect a lot of demonic howls and furniture throwing. So if you’re a fan of paranormal activity then this is a not to be missed film. ROCKS RATING:

The youngest of The Jonas Brothers has released his third solo studio album, it is the first one that isn’t self-titled. The album includes songs which Jonas has debuted and performed including ‘Under You’ and ‘Don’t Make Me Choose’. The album features some A-List collaborations with Purity’s Ring’s Corin Roddick, singer Ty Dolla $ign, Tove Lo and Big Sean. Nick worked alongside the album with Jason Evigan and Sir Nolan who helped on his previous tracks. During a radio interview, Jonas has noted that the album was supposed to be named ‘Unhinged’ like the song on the record but after talks with rapper Jay-Z he changed the title to something more relatable to his current life situation. The album holds 12 tracks but on the international deluxe edition it holds 18 including his number one hit ‘Jealous’, the songs follow Nicks trademark soft vocals under a heavy beat but shows fans his rapper side with the song ‘Bacon’. Nick revealed on Twitter that his single ‘Close’ is about a break up, ‘But I know it’s important that I do it. I want to be an open book in my art…’ The soundtrack really reveals Nick’s vulnerable side as he states that ‘Reliving some of these real life experiences through this music is hard’. The now solo singer has told fans he has been working on this album for over a year and promises it is definitely worth the wait as he bares his heart and soul. Breakup track ´Chainsaw´ is the first single to be released and tells of the heartbreak experienced by his failed relationship with long term girlfriend Olivia Culpo. “Hopefully my vulnerability speaks to you,” Jonas tweeted.

Set in modern day New York City, an insight into how the relationship between two best friends can change when they are no longer growing up but learning how to cope with ‘adulting.’ The pair, Lauren and Sarah are more like sisters and have been through everything together - school, college, starting their first jobs, falling in love, the anxiety of their twenties and when reality really sets in during their testing thirties. Lauren works in publishing and leads a very spontaneous and lustful life (much to her parents disappointment). Sarah is a charity worker and is efficiently organising her wedding - a complete contrast to Lauren. However, can two women; who rarely catch up, lead separate and contrasting lives, still obtain that ‘best friend’ title? They question if their friendship is plainly habitual or do they still maintain the close relationship they once shared. With outstanding writing style, laugh-out-loud humour, author Rumaan Alam examines how the once childhood soulmates can eventually lead to growing up, and even growing out of each other. We watch the pair adapt to adulthood in the hope they will rekindle the friendship they once shared. If you’ve ever had friendships that have drifted apart you will totally relate to this endearing, witty, coming of age novel. Critics have billed Rich and Pretty as “engrossing, funny and wise.” This is bound to be a summer smash hit for the new author.

There has been a great deal of advancement in medical and dermatological treatments to beat back the signs of time if healthy eating, creams and lifestyle choices simply won´t cut the mustard! TREATMENTS STEM CELL REJUVANATION At the forefront of cutting edge aesthetic medicine is the use of stem

cells to repair and regenerate the skin. The Arques Medical Clinic in Marbella has just implemented this treatment and are already getting enquiries from patients asking for help to regenerate their skin, heal scarring or even treat alopecia and male pattern baldness. It is a completely painless process not requiring surgery and usually carried out with a numbing cream. It involves obtaining a patients stem cells from their fat (usually a 2mm pinch of skin at the back of the neck above your hairline.) It is then mixed with a saline solution and vitamins to rejuvenate the patient’s cells before being injected into the “affected” zone. This pioneering treatment holds a lot of promise. Not only are dermal fillers becoming one of the most popular anti-ageing procedures on the market but stem cell regeneration is one of the most talked about advancements in general aesthetic medicine. Now imagine combining the two so a patient is able to have their own rejuvenated stem cells injected back into their skin – scientists claim this is currently one of the most effective techniques currently available on the market. Plus, only one treatment is usually required after which the results are visible after a few days. In the case of alopecia, it will take 6 weeks to see the full effects of the treatment. Dr Mario Arques advises that only one treatment every 18 months is to be carried out. There isn´t a minimum age to test out Stem Cell treatments, although it is after 25 that patients start to lose their natural collagen so not advisable before this age. It is advised to only carry out stem cell regeneration treatments with a qualified medical practitioner. There was recently a case in the US where a woman was injected with stem cells containing cartilage and fragments of bone were growing in the skin. Although this sounds horrendous any patient in their right mind should always research any procedure they are thinking of carrying out thoroughly. Botox has lead to facial paralysis in some patients but that doesn´t stop millions of women getting the injections every day. COMCIT BY CRYSTAL CLEAR Comcit is a new, cutting edge, anti-ageing treatment

that promotes new collagen growth through a series of treatments including microchannelling and cryo-oxygen. Sounds confusing? Here´s the science part…the special microchannelling roller helps to penetrate the skin and ensure the finest and best anti-ageing Crystal Clear products are worked deep into the epidermis. The roller is moved over the surface of the skin to penetrate through the skin, creating a pathway for the powerful rejuvenation actives to take effect – working from the inside out. Not only does this help to instantly smooth and plump skin but over time it works to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. The facial only takes 45 minutes and effects are noticed immediately. Expect to see a dramatic reduction in lines, firmer and plumper skin, improved clarity and texture of the skin and a lifted and redefined jawline – great for sagging jowls. For optimum results it is best to book a course of the Comcit – Natalie Richardson, owner of Bardou in Marbella, recommends a course of 6. “This treatment really is fantastic, it´s so good clients are sacrificing Botox injections for Comcit – calling it “no-tox!” As well as lines and plumping of the skin it can really help improve pigmentation and acne,” Natalie says. To try out the new Comcit by Crystal Clear facials visit www.thebardou.com or call +34 951 518 680.

DERMAL ROLLER Piercing your skin with a bunch of tiny little needles, may not sound appealing at first, but

do the cosmetic benefits of the dermal roller outweigh the negative? At first glance, a dermal roller may appear to be a miniature barbaric torture device (!), but it has in fact become one of the most innovative approaches to skincare treatment in years. Dermal rollers are known to be an effective treatment against ageing elements like wrinkles, fine lines and skin stretching. They can help to thicken the skin, smooth scars and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The magic lies within the fine needles that penetrate the skin as it is rolled across the surface. The tiny pin pricks help to stimulate collagen and elastin production, which aid in plumping the skin in problem areas such as laugh line areas or forehead wrinkles. Proven to increase chemical absorption up to 1000 times, dermal rollers are commonly used along with skincare products such a moisturisers, anti-wrinkle or anti-ageing creams and even essential oils. As the holes are put in place, the product is able to penetrate the skin at a deeper level then just surface application causing the results to be more effective and promising. Instead of just sitting on the surface, skincare products are able to be fully absorbed in multiple layers of skin as opposed to just one. The science behind dermal roller is impressive and the results are apparent. Dermal rollers are effective for superficial acne scarring, especially when used in conjunction with other non-invasive cosmetic solutions. However, dermal rollers require multiple treatments before any you will any results. Due to the downtime associated with dermal rollers, this may not be ideal choice for most people. BIOLOGIQUE RECHERGE FACIALS Set up 30 years ago by a doctor, a biologist and a physiotherapist, the aim was to create clinically active,

personalised skincare with high concentrations of active botanicals and marine extracts. The team’s knowledge of internal medicine had given them a very clear idea of how stress, hormones, medication and lifestyle can affect and change the state of people’s skins. So analysing and treating skin based on what it needs at any particular moment, not by a generalised idea of ‘skin type’, became the brand’s usp. Biologuique Recharge Facials have gone from strength to strength with over 30 million avid users worldwide. BR Methodology is based on two stages: Initialisation and treatment stages; both of them preceded by the assessment stage in which you will be assessed into the most appropriate treatment. Then there is the Initialisation stage, a crucial part of the BR Methodology. The skin is prepared and cleansed to restore the epidermis’ natural regeneration proprieties. During this stage, the epidermis is thoroughly cleansed, its PH is balanced, it is gently exfoliated and its proteo-lipid film is restored. Impurities and dead cells are gradually brought to the surface and eliminated. After this stage, which comprises make-up removal followed by gentle exfoliation and a mask, the skin is ready to receive the specific Treatment Stage products. This includes Soin Biovecteur Marin which energises, sculpts and rejuvenates, lifts, purifies and illuminates. Vip 02 then helps to oxygenate and further illuminate the skin. T-SHAPE MACHINE Wrinkles, saggy jowls, muffin tops, bingo wings, loose thighs, chubby

belly….. have we got your attention yet? No matter how young or beautiful, every woman has one or two areas of concern, which they would love to improve if given a magic wand. Unfortunately, with age and the joys of menopause, these issues could very well be multiplied and the magic wand usually only comes in invasive forms such as liposuction, face-lifts, botox, etc. Now there is a quick, comfortable and easy solution for smoothing those wrinkles and thighs, lifting those jowls and buttocks and flattening that tummy without expensive or painful surgery. T-Shape is a new, non-surgical, anti-cellulite and fat reducing body-contouring treatment and a rejuvenating, skin firming/lifting facial treatment in one. It works with three different yet synergistic technologies; radiofrequency to tighten and tone the skin, lipolaser to melt the fat and vacuum to assist lymphatic drainage and to smooth cellulite. After only 4-5 sessions you can see a very noticeable difference and sleeveless tops and bikinis could be an option for you this summer if you´d previously shuddered at the thought of baring all on the beach. T-Shape also gets very good results with refining the jawline and firming up the delicate skin on the neck and the décolleté. BOTOX

Without a doubt Botox is the most common procedure on the market these days. When it was first introduced in 2000 it used to be only associated with A-listers and women over the age of 40. Now Botox is as common for women as getting a leg wax with millions of woman advocating the face-freezing injections. What´s more according to recent statistics, 30% of Botox users are people in their 20´s. According to medical practitioners despite people in their 20´s having hardly any lines or wrinkles, having Botox in their 20´s is actually good. “Botox is also popular as a preventative measure against ageing. Patients who begin to use Botox at in their 20’s and 30’s will have less fine lines and wrinkles in the Botox targeted areas because the muscles will be relaxed and unable to produce their wrinkles.”

For a great deal on Botox in Marbella - €90 for one area and €250 for 3 areas (with free top-us if required) contact registered nurse Christopher Hutchinson on 0044 7921 482261 or his assistant Debbie on +34 622 495 771.

THE PONYTAIL FACELIFT

Look in the mirror and scrape back your hair into a tight ponytail. Tadah! Your wrinkles magically disappear and everything is lifted back to positions they last held in the 1980s! This is certainly the cheapest way to achieve the effects of a facelift, but for a more permanent change consider the Ponytail Lift. The procedure is designed to mimic the improved appearance that comes with pulled back hair, with lifted brows, cheeks and jowls, and is minimally invasive. “The ‘pony tail facelift’ is simply a marketing name given to a treatment known as an endoscopic forehead lift,” says Dr. Kaye from Ocean Clinic in Marbella. “We tense the muscles of the midface and forehead by making some small incisions hidden in the hair. It’s not a new technique – it’s 30-years old! The endoscopic techniques are having a renaissance because of the trend towards minimally invasive procedures, which give great results with minimal down time.”

Lifestyle Don’t be fooled into thinking that you only have to pay your way into looking more youthful, it is all about how you treat your body and mind through your daily routine and all round lifestyle. It is all about cutting out the bad and bringing in the good and it is these vital steps you need to take in order to look and feel your best both inside and out.

PUT OUT THE CIGS

Did you know that smoking results in more premature facial wrinkling than sun exposure? Lines around the eyes called “crow’s feet” can develop at an earlier age. Multiple vertical lines around the mouth also occur. These smoker’s lines really show your age and accelerate the ageing process. These effects also continue into old age. By the age of 70, smoking 30 cigarettes a day could lead to the equivalent of an extra 14 years of skin ageing. If you do smoke, it is advised you do invest in a method of quitting such as nicotine patches, hypnotising or if that is too drastic try e-cigarettes as a first call - then ease in the quitting systems. Smoking is responsible for several diseases such as long term chronic respiratory diseases such as heart diseases as well as premature death and a recent study has found that smokers can die ten years sooner than non-smokers so try your best to kick that filthy habit.

DESTRESS

Stress is a major indicator on your life even if you may not think it. Stress occurs in 1 in 10 adults and affects your body, thoughts, feelings and behaviour and even accelerates the ageing process by shortening the length of each DNA strand. It is vital to be able to recognise common stress symptoms which can give you a helping hand on managing them. Stress that is left to get worse can contribute to many more health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. The common effects on stress is headaches, chest pains, sleep problems and muscle pain. There are many relaxation techniques such as meditation and talking about your problems to a close other in your life that can help ease anxiety, if you repeat it daily you can alter the brains neutral pathways making it more resilient to stress. Robbie Maller, a Chicago health and wellness coach has outlined this simple method, sit up straight with both feet on the floor and close your eyes, focus your attention on reciting out loud or silently ‘I feel at peace’ whilst placing one hand on your belly to sync the mantra with your breaths and let any distracting thoughts pass right out of your mind.’

DRINK LESS

It is a known fact that drinking is bad for you. Scientists have regularly drinking more than 14 units a week does damage your health. To reduce the risk of harming your health and keep your skin in the best possible condition it is advised that men and woman should spread drinking over three days or more if you do drink more than the intended amount as opposed to binge drinking in one night. This type of drinking is called low risk as there is no safe drinking level. To reduce your health risks limit how much you drink, and drink with food and intake your alcohol more slowly. The effects that alcohol has on your health really comes to down to how much your drink - the less the lower your health risk!

EXERCISE MORE

Scientists have revealed that exercise could not only keep skin younger, but may also even reverse skin ageing. Recent studies at McMaster University examined the affect of exercise on mice. Researchers examined mice that were bred to age prematurely - they split the mice into two groups and provided on group with exercise wheels. The mice that remained sedentary rapidly grew frail, ill and greying or bald. But the mice that were given access to running wheels maintained healthy brains, hearts, muscles and reproductive organs. Their fur remained far longer than their sedentary labmates and didn’t even turn grey. Exercise – so simple yet so effective, can also help prevent excess weight gain and aid weight loss. The more intense the activity the more calories you burn, you don’t need to set aside huge amount of time to do exercise, simple tasks such as hoovering the house can burn more calories than you can imagine. Daily 15 minute jogs can help set you up for the future and you will feel better than ever once you notice the difference in your physique and your skin.

STRENGTH THROUGH VULNERABILITY 52 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 21

features The world famous Seal is set to perform at the Puente Romano Beach Resort on July 18th. The music legend, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, spoke exclusively to Marbella Rocks about his forthcoming trip saying, Spain is one of his favourite places to visit in the world. “The people, the beauty, the culture, it´s all one of a kind,” he said. Seal, born Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel, is an English R&B singer and songwriter who is well known for his international hits including ‘Crazy’ and ‘Kiss From a Rose’ which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1995 film ‘Batman Forever’, a song that lifted him higher in the limelight which evolved into his amazing career. He has released a total of nine studio albums in his career so far, with his latest album 7 debuting at number 13 in the UK album chart. Pundits have called 7 his “divorce album,” following his split from German supermodel Heidi Klum in 2012. “I worked on this album with a dear friend Trevor Horn,” Seal says. “Many people would like to think the album is autobiographical but it plays off many other peoples experiences and emotions. Trevor and I have both experienced losses of different kinds. I tried to capture the highs, the lows, the recklessness, the anger, the remorse.”

EARLY LIFE

Born on February 19th 1963 to parents of Nigerian descent, Seal was taken in by white foster parents from Romford, Essex but was later reclaimed by his natural mother at the age of 4. Recently Seal divulged that when he came under the care of his father in Kilburn he suffered regular beatings until he finally left home at the age of 15. The singer claims that he doesn’t regret anything that happened during his tarnished childhood and it was integral to make him who he is today. Seal has a distinctive image, the scars on his face have always been a talking point in regards to the singer but they are the result of a condition

called discoid lupus that only affects the skin from the neck up.

MUSIC MAESTRO

Seal was first brought into the public eye as a vocalist on the Adamski single ‘Killer’ in 1990. The song is a mix of dance and techno house which is helped with heartfelt lyrics and Seal´s gravelly yet soulful voice. “When I realised that ‘Killer’ had gained the top position I let out this huge roar, honestly families around us were going for their children – there was this 6ft 4inch black man gone wild in Cambridgeshire!” Seal recalls fondly. The singer was

“I´ve had such an amazing career and I am blessed. If I could give my younger self advice it would be to slow down and really appreciate everything that comes your way.” positively received by critics, after ‘Crazy’ became an international hit in 1991 he ranked number two on the UK Singles Chart and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. Since his first studio album

in 1991 Seal has released 7 more, each have been a success. In 2004 a greatest hits album entitled ‘Seal: Best 1991-2004’ was released which included a cover on the classic ‘Walk on By’ and a cover of Echo & the Bunnymen’s song ‘Lips Like Sugar.’ Seal constantly surprises fans with concert releases, in June 2005 he recorded a special concert, ‘One Night to Remember’ as a CD/ DVD combination, the concert was recorded in Dusseldorf in which the star was accompanied by his band, a full orchestra and a choir of 52 musicians. Without a doubt Seal is a music maestro and a complete crowd pleaser. He says his favourite track of all time is John Lennon´s Imagine and his greatest influence is long-serving producer and friend Trevor Horn.

SHINING BRIGHT ON AWARDS NIGHT

Seal has won music awards throughout his career, stealing the show at the 1992 Brit Awards with the first hat trick on wins in the history of the event, one including Best British Male. Under his belt he also has four Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music award. The skills of the singer doesn’t stop there… as a songwriter he received the British Academy’s Ivor Novello Award for Best Song musically and lyrically in consecutive years for ‘Killer’ and ‘Crazy’. Describing his career Seal believes his success definitely has to do with his “strength through vulnerability”. Although conflicting character traits they really do make Seal stand out in the crowded and manufactured pop marketplace.

HARD TIMES

It hasn’t always been plain sailing for Seal, he lived through a heavy number of losses and near catastrophes between his 1st and 2nd album. The first was when he encountered a heavy duty car crash in California in which he nearly flew off a canyon onto a freeway of a hundred feet below at a peak hour, although the car was completely written off he walked away miraculously unscathed. Following that near miss he then caught double pneumonia. He came out of that unscathed as well with no scarring on his lungs, and to top it off he was a witness to a shooting right in front of him on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard! Seal claims that a London healer helped him to recover from his illness and clarify his life. Seal told sources that part of the healing meant putting fame

into perspective and allowing his ‘celebrity’ self to surface when he needed to protect his private self, “The days I wanted to be noticed, wanted some feedback, I could go out there and kind of exude and I’d get recognised, becoming Seal the pop star, impervious to everything."

unfortunately after nearly 7 years of marriage together they separated in 2012 and Heidi restored her name back to Heidi Klum. Reportedly Seal began dating model Erica Packer last August and recent claims have stated she is pregnant although these are yet to be confirmed by either party.

LOVE LIFE

FUTURE PLANS

Seal has always been in the public eye with his dating life, he first began dating German model Heidi Klum in February 2004 and he popped the question in December the same year in a quinzee he had built on a glacier in Whistler, British Columbia. When the couple were together he was very much a romantic guy. Every year since their marriage in 2005 the couple renewed their vows on their anniversary with close family and friends. Heidi and Seal have four children together but

Seal recently played the role of Pontius Pilate in a live TV musical, describing it as a surreal experience. “I have sang and performed live over half my life but to take on a new task was quite envigorating.” He is also set to perform in South Africa in June for three nights in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town before coming to Spain in July. Safe to say that Seal has a busy year ahead of him.

If you want to see the star perform get your tickets via Crazy Music Productions website or by calling 952 883 832. 54 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 21

20' S Your late teens and early 20's are definitely a time to be

more adventurous and experiment with cuts and colour. Remember Miley Cyrus a few years ago? She went from a dull, mousey brunette to a killer blonde crop overnight and it totally transformed her. Similarly Emma Watson turned from a gawky teen actress to a serious film siren with her elfin crop in 2011 (and was inundated with film roles). While the striking pixie style cut undoubtedly suits most women in their 20´s, any age can rock the crop. Halle Berry looks stunning with this look in her 30´s while Helen Mirren has recently sported the look in her 70´s. 20´s can really be about anything though ladies and gents. You can carry off almost anything in this age bracket… be it ombre, balayage, crops, extensions or rainbow hair (think Kylie Jenner in Coachella) with youth on your side it´s time to try out that latest, trend setting hairstyle. Have fun.

30' S When the 30's approach most people still want to look

fashionable and edgy but a lot of women are thinking of getting married and several of my clients have spent up to 2 years growing their hair for the big day. Remember this as it can add years to your married life! If you are in this growing stage then it´s a great time to try braids, plaits, hair up. This also works particularly well for career women – an up do looks sophisticated and a simple ponytail or bun style will get you more plus points

HAIR & BEAUTY and proves you can still go with a fashionable look even in your 40´s. Be warned though if you are anything over 50 - these sort of styles are definitely verging on mutton as lamb.

50' S The 50's is all about softness and

from your peers than a long, boho wavy look that suited you in your 20´s. Also by the time we hit our 30´s we are really getting to grips with what suits us after a few failed attempts in our teens and 20´s. Nicole Kidman´s unruly red locks were straightened and dyed a more flattering blonde hue in her early 30´s. While her colour changes slightly for film roles she has realised this look works best for her and never veers too far from this flattering look.

covering grey/white hairs so colour can play a huge part in the overall look. Most clients realise that they can´t wear their hair as long as they used to and normally go for a shorter hair cut that lifts the face. One of the best long to short celebrity cuts has to be Sharon Stone. For 30 years she had the same long blonde locks which actually towards the end of her 40´s really started to age her. When she went for the chop into an elfin crop a few years ago it totally transformed her. Also cutting a fringe in to hide wrinkles may seem like a good idea when you are 50 plus but it´s only good for those that have thicker hair as wispier strands on a fringe can add years to you. Raquel Welch´s bouncy shoulder length cut is a great option if your hair is in tip top condition – it can be easily blow dried to create volume at the root and crown, which in turn can make you, look younger. Raquel is 75 but looks as young as 55 with this head turning colour and cut. Be warned, maintenance on grey roots when you´re over 50 can be costly and take time so only go red or brunette if you have the time and money for regular touch ups. Blonde, like Sharon Stone, is an easier colour to go to cover up greys.

40' S By your 40's most people know what suits them, they have

made all the mistakes with haircuts that were too short that made their nose or ears look big. Or had a colour which looked great on their best friend but made them look washed out and pale. So the 40's is normally safety first. One of my favourite looks for women in this age bracket is the recent choppy bob sported by actress Kristen Wiig. It elongates the neck and is especially flattering on heart shaped or oval faces. Ask your stylist for a bob with movement. It may be better to do on dry hair as you don´t want to over layer the cut as it will become instantly ageing if too many layers are added. If you want to go for a more edgy, adventurous look the latest asymmetrical cut on Portia de Rossi looks very flattering

ZOOM TEETH

WHITENING With summer approaching and the social environment we live in here on the Costa Del Sol, a bright smile can go a long way in creating a lasting impression. Social media is largely responsible for guiding many aspects of our everyday living, from what we eat, how we dress, where we go and health and well being. It's no surprise then that our oral health and well being is often a subject of conversation, and in particular, the cosmetic aspects like teeth whitening, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants and adult orthodontics.

Dr Eugene Marais has been involved in implant dentistry since 1994 and is President of the British Academy of Dental Implantology. He gained his knowledge at the Misch Implant Institute in Michigan and Pennsylvania, completing both the surgical and prosthodontic programmes. In 2008 the International Congress of Oral Implantology awarded him both Fellowship and then its highest status, Diplomate. To date, he has placed more than 6500 implants, performed several hundred sinus elevations and most other dental implant procedures. He has also spoken at many international implant symposia reflecting his expertise in this field.

In this first column of mine I would like report on the Zoom Teeth Whitening System, which I have used at Brilliant Dental Clinic in San Roque since 2013. As a dentist with 28 years of experience, I have used a multitude of systems to a lesser degree of success! The majority of systems created severe hypersensitivity of the teeth and gums. Since using the Zoom teeth whitening system there has been a definite decrease in post-operative sensitivity, which is a deterrent when deciding on whitening your teeth. Another deterrent when using other systems like the ones offered in health and beauty salons is the potential enamel damage that can be caused by these “alternate” systems. Typically the Zoom whitening experience consists of a 2 hour in-surgery visit where the hygienist performs a thorough oral hygiene session to remove all plaque, tartar and any superficial staining. Once the teeth surfaces are all cleaned and smooth, the Zoom whitening kit is applied. The whitening gel, which is the active ingredient in the whitening procedure, is activated by the Zoom LED light source, which is often mistakenly referred to as a laser. This LED light is then applied in 4 fifteen minute, or 3 twenty minute sessions. During the intervals the whitening gel is changed and reapplied so the maximum affect is achieved. Included in the system is a home care kit, which is made up of custom made whitening trays for upper and lower teeth and whitening gel. These trays and gel can be used to “bling” up the effect of the initial booster whitening session, or can be applied after hygiene visits every 3-4 months, to maintain the level of whitening, so that the inoffice procedure rarely needs to be redone. Let me just run through frequently asked questions I get to see if teeth whitening is for you: DOES WHITENING DAMAGE THE ENAMEL? There is nothing in the gel to cause any breakdown of the enamel, according to manufactures. In the author’s experience no enamel damage has been observed. DOES IT HURT? In all the cases done to date, there have been no cases of any significant discomfort. This concurs with the manufacturer’s claims that sensitivity is minimal, compared to other systems.

| ISSUE 21 | ISSUE 21 82 MARBELLAROCKS 82 MARBELLAROCKS

HEALTH FITNESS HAIR && BEAUTY

HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD IT BE DONE? Once the initial booster whitening has been done in the surgery, it is recommended to visit the hygienist every 3-4 months to remove all stains, then to apply the home care kit 2-3 times, to maintain the level of whitening. This would negate the need to repeat the in surgery procedure. There are various factors which influence the outcome of the procedure, like: • Matured, or teeth stained with tetracycline or enamel deficiencies. The whitening gel does not have as good an effect as with teeth that are unstained or simply yellower. • Fillings would show up once the neighbouring tooth structure has been whitened, so it's important to be informed about this and potential costs that could be incurred. • Crowns won't be affected by the whitening procedure, as porcelain is impervious to the whitening gel. Too many crowns or fillings may influence the outcome, and therefore need to be changed to complete the smile design.

Dr Marais has been in Sotogrande since 2006 and to celebrate the 10 year anniversary he is offering a promotion with the ZOOM whitening system, and offering the complete system with hygiene visit included for a limited period only. He has a special interest in smile design and cosmetic dentistry and as President of the British Academy of Dental Implantology he is happy to advise and treat most dental problems, offering a free consultation for new patients in a relaxed and friendly environment. He is happy to answer questions either by email to brilliantdental@gmail.com or on the Brilliant Dental San Roque Facebook site.

MOS EISLEY RESTAURANT REVIEW

F

or superb food and seriously good fun you have to try Mos Eisley, the chic new bar and restaurant in Marbella, located opposite the Senator Banus Hotel in El Pilar. The restaurant serves an appetising mix of tapas and internationally inspired main dishes, perfect for any dining occasion this summer – be it a lighter bite with friends or a longer sit down evening meal with a partner or family, every discerning diner is catered for. Plus, there is fabulous weekly entertainment consisting of either fashion shows, live music nights or family BBQ´s, meaning there is never a dull day or night at Mos Eisley. While the event nights are undoubtedly a real pull (check Marbella Rocks monthly calendar for their schedule) the real strength of this burgeoning new venue has to be its food menu that Australian owner Julie and head chef Belgium-born Enrique created after envisioning a menu that caters to every tastebud and waistline! Fresh, healthy and gluten free is the order of the day at Mos Eisley. But who said healthy has to be boring? So Mos Eisley´s tapas & international inspired menu was born – and here´s what our testers thought of it…

FOR START

The smoked salmon on a bed of cream cheese with pumpernickel toast, watercress and ginger berry compote was divine and a complete taste explosion. The mini rice balls with mushroom, truffle oil and parmesan cheese were sticky, sweet and had the perfect amount of bite on the rice and the parmesan complimented the truffle and mushroom perfectly. Mos Eisley´s signature starter dish of guacamole is also exquisite. Made with avocado, tomatoes, red onion,

88 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 21

coriander, lime and served with crudités, vegetable batons and corn chips, this will not disappoint and is great for a group to share.

TAPAS TASTING

Next on to the tapas…our testers highly recommended the organic chicken tenderloins with blue cheese dipping sauce. These can be made spicy

gastronomy

or non-spicy and an option of barbecue dipping sauce, although we highly recommend the blue cheese with spicy goujons. The mini slide burgers, as well as being a perfect tapas, are great for children or can be ordered as a starter course. Made with 100% lean beef, served on a brioche bun with melted chedder cheese and grilled onions – these are so fabulous a portion were immediately ordered from a neighbouring table when ours came out. Always a good sign!

MAIN COURSE

With 13 mains to choose from including a variety of appetising salads, including Caeser & Niscoise and options for both vegetarians and vegans, our tasters were spoilt for choice. The grilled lack of lamb was truly sensational, the meat (which can be cooked so wrong in Spain – sorry to say!) was melt in the mouth, moist, succulent and served on a bed of fresh seasonal vegetables and fresh mango salsa. Our second taster went for the Lobster Linguine Pil Pil. A whole half fresh lobster certainly looked impressive and luckily the taste matched. Fresh, succulent infused with garlic and spice with perfectly cooked el dente pasta ribbons and a creamy tomato sauce. You will not be disappointed.

DESSERT

The chocolate fondant is undoubtedly the most popular dish on the dessert menu. Hard to get right as every chef in his own right knows. But this one was nailed. Crispy outer crust…check, soft sponge interior…check and lava-like chocolate sauce melting inside…check. Decorated with fresh raspberries and scoops of vanilla-pod ice-cream and mint garnish…triple check. If chocolate is not your thing, the Apple Tart Tatin or the Caramelised Coconut and Lime Sago Pudding are delicious too.

IN SUMMARY

One of the loveliest, friendliest restaurants we´ve experienced and well worth a visit, especially if you have little ones as there is a forest themed children´s room at the back of the venue.

Mos Eisley will be open daily from 5pm this summer. Telephone: +34 951 196 609 ISSUE 21 | MARBELLAROCKS

AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH...

KARL LAGASSE Painter, sculptor, photographer and video artist, Karl Lagasse is one of the greatest multidisciplinary artists of our time. Born in Paris in 1981, Lagasse experienced a cultural childhood amongst his parents, both artists. His first piece was created at the age of 7 and his first work was sold when he was only 15. Karl is famed for creating urban inspired graffiti works of art, American themed pieces and without a doubt his most famous creation the “One Dollar Bill which has taken the art world by storm. These grand sculptures come in different materials, sizes and colours with the most impressive standing at 2m high in bronze. Karl recently visited Marbella to inaugurate the brand new Atrium Gallery on the Golden Mile alongside the Mayor of Marbella - where his artwork and sculptures will be on display for a twoweek exclusive exhibit. Marbella Rocks Magazine had the pleasure of catching up with Karl to find out all about his art, inspiration, exhibits and plans for the future.

You were raised in a family of artists, was this always what you wanted to do?

In the beginning it was just recreation. My mum encouraged me to pursue my passion so I decided I could do this as a career as well and this is when I discovered the positive messages that were useful for me to convey within my work.

Is it true you were self taught?

Yes I am. Like any artist, I look at other artists work to learn and be inspired. The evolution of my work began when I started sculpting and I work and learn through a trial and error process.

When did you first start creating art?

I created my first piece of art aged 7.

Did it inspire you growing up in such a creative, artistic city such as Paris?

Of course Paris is at the heart of a lot of my messages taking that beauty, creativity is in a lot of my art. My true inspiration however was from the time I spent in Italy and this is where I began making my bronze sculptures, inspired by other Italian artists.

Yes I did, when I was seven years old, I was very young! My brother was a member of the Black Dragons – this is how I became passionate about street art.

You sold your first painting at 15, what was it and how much did you sell it for?

I sold a large collage of a DJ with decks. I made 2,000 francs from it, not bad for 15.

How does it feel for you to have so much success at such a young age? The good exposure in Marbella has definitely helped me. I work very hard for what I do and I am very appreciative of you interviewing me and showing an interest in my work.

What is the most unusual object you have created with your art?

In 2014 I exhibited a Maserati Ghibli I created at Le Grand Palais.

Your bronzed “One Dollar” bill is by far your most famous work of art to date, please tell us the inspiration for this outstanding piece? The challenge of creating a piece of art in a few months inspires me.

How long does it take to carve and create these 2m long pieces? The actual construction takes three months but I have spent several years on the project starting in 2009.

Is it exhausting work carving in bronze?

Yes it is! It has also taken me years to get to where I am today.

You have also constructed art called the Buildings of New York Sky scrapers, what is it you love or fascinates you about the United States? I like the energy New York has and the genuine feeling I get from the city and the people.

Your wife is American, how did you meet?

Yes, I met her four years ago whilst I was working. My

home & interiors wife (Cherise Lagasse – a famous Soprano Opera singer) was singing at a recital in Paris to raise money for homeless people and I was there in support. We worked together for a number of years, she would sing in my videos and at my gallery.

You are also a photographer and videographer – how do you have the time to fit this all in? I work a lot! I love having images and music together – it´s a new art form in itself. A lot of what I do is interlocked with one another.

You have exhibited at the world´s best galleries over the past 15 years, what have been your personal favourites? The Gagosian Gallery in New York is amazing.

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to do another expo in Los Angeles later this year.

Are you enjoying your time here in Marbella? I absolutely love it here! I give credit to God and my family for giving me the courage to do this expo.

YORKSHIRE LINEN PRESTIGE

L

uxury homeware store Yorkshire Linen Prestige opened its stunning new store on the Golden Mile and has some of the top brand names you would associate with homeware including bedding sets from leading designers Catherine Lansfield and Kylie Minogue, duvets and pillows from Snuggledown of Norway and hotel quality sheets and pillowcases from Belledorm. The group literally source the globe to get the best products and prices for its customers on the Costa del Sol.

Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of catching up up with Stephanie Smith, the charismatic co-owner of the Mijas Costa franchise Yorkshire Linen and Yorkshire Linen Prestige (Julie Law is also the co-owner), to find out all about the new store, the company´s ethos and why people keep coming back for more. “Yorkshire Linen is more than just a store, we offer the widest choice of homeware in Marbella, at great prices and with unparalled customer service. All of our staff are expertly trained so no matter what you are looking for to better your home we can find it for you,” Steph explains. One of their many accolades includes staff being fully trained on every product range and item they sell in the store. “Our staff know what tog duvets to use throughout different seasons of the year, what lampshades match which bedroom suite and even what pillow length to suit each bed.” What´s more, Yorkshire Linen are completely accustomed to completing whole villa or apartment furnishings, so they can literally organise and furnish your home or holiday rental within a couple of days. Unlike their Swedish counterparts Ikea, Yorkshire Linen have never gone down the road of furniture flat packs (you´ll be pleased to hear!). Including the online business Yorkshire Linen stock 12,000 products. “We are very bespoke but we can still offer a huge range of products for our clients,” Steph adds. The Yorkshire Linen Warehouse first opened its doors in 2008 with the aim of providing high quality soft furnishings to both the public and trade customers throughout the Costa del Sol. Based in Mijas Costa,

the first store quickly built up a reputation for supplying outstanding home furnishings (including bedding, bed linen, bath linen and curtains) at low prices, backed by a high standard of customer care. Since opening, the Yorkshire Linen Warehouse have been inundated with enquiries from all over Spain including Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Murcia, Almeria, Santander, Bilboa and even the Balaeric Islands. In 2012, due to the overwhelming demand for products, an online store was created to enable people across Spain to purchase these products quickly and easily and have them delivered straight to their door. Plus, Yorkshire Linen owns sister bed and furniture store Beds and More selling top brand Pikolin mattresses, bespoke beds and head boards – specialists in zip and link and canopy storage beds – imported rugs and decorative furniture and designer sofas. “We have a good selection in Yorkshire Linen Prestige and we have plans to extend the Prestige store in the near future to incorporate more of this in Marbella,” Steph adds.

CH0OSE TO

TRUST choice given in innocence and stolen in abuse. A value cultivated over years, and broken in a moment. A quality built on courage and broken by fear. A power built on love and broken by its absence.

MEET ANTONIA BEHAN, MARBELLA ROCKS NEW PSYCHOLOGY COLUMNIST. ANTONIA IS A FULLY QUALIFIED PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COACH. SHE PROVIDES PRIVATE SESSIONS, WORKSHOPS AND COURSES TO HELP ADULTS AND TEENAGERS DEFINE DIRECTION, CULTIVATE SELF ESTEEM, EXPLORE DEEPER MEANING, VALUE AND PURPOSE, AND CRAFT PATHWAYS THAT SUPPORT PERSONAL FULFILMENT AND TRUE SUCCESS. ANTONIA HAS WRITTEN FOR HIGH PROFILE MAGAZINES INCLUDING NATURAL HEALTH, WOMAN AND YOUR DESTINY MAGAZINE.

I was naïve. I trusted people, and I got hurt. I do not regret trusting, because it is who I want to be; a person that can cultivate trusting relationships, to trust myself, and dare to trust people and life, because a fearsome life does not enrich my soul. Although people in my life, and especially those who I believed I could trust the most, have broken my trust, and for a time left me believing that: ‘nobody is safe to trust.’ Although for a time I felt chained to a life of solitude, the untrustworthy actually gave me a gift. They taught me that I had a choice; I could choose to allow their mistrust to flood my mind with over-generalised negative and fearsome beliefs about the world and people, or, I could decide not to give them my power, because there are good people in life. They taught me that they could trigger hurt and fear in me, but, only I could break myself in the spiralling abyss in which pain and fear can imprison us, by feeding those fears. The ability to trust again was not about the untrustworthy, it was never about them, it was about my choice on how I guided my mind in response to them. And so I decided that some people cannot be trusted, but everyone else holds that potential until they give me a reason not to trust. I choose to trust again because a life without trust painted a desolate road that I did not want to walk. I decided to begin by trusting myself. This meant trusting my senses about people and this time I went slowly in building this trust. As result, I began to see the qualities that help trust to grow. I learnt that I can trust others when they are:

Open and Authentic: When a person is willing to share a part of themselves; their truth, their feelings and emotions, and their vulnerabilities. Those who have something to hide, behind a mask, are not going to win my trust.

For advice and support on cultivating positive relationships please contact: Antonia Behan (Cert. Life Coach 2004)

Accepting: When I see a person who shows me they are able to accept themselves; the good and the bad, this tells me that they are more likely to accept me, and less likely to project any of their negative judgements onto me. This makes them safe.

Tel: +34 620 741 361 Website: www.antoniabehan.com Email: antonia@antoniabehan.com Private sessions and workshops available in Gibraltar, Sotogrande and Marbella.

Responsible: When I notice that someone takes responsibility for something they have done, commitments made, words spoken, or actions taken, I see a person with integrity, and a good heart, and this makes them safer to trust. Caring and Kind: When a person treats themselves

and others with care and kindness they seem safe to me. But, if they are harsh with themselves, I may think

100 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 21

psychology they perhaps unconsciously project this into others, and onto me.

Reliable: To count on a person to be there when I really need them.

Consistent: When other people are consistently reliable, accepting, responsible, open and authentic. Through learning to trust slowly, by trusting my senses and learning what it is about the other person that I am choosing to trust that is enabling this trust to develop, I now know what I am looking for in the people with whom I choose to trust and what to be mindful of when my beliefs or love blindness may hide the truth from me. Now, on reflection of learning to trust others, I am looking at what it means to trust me, so that bridges of trust can be built and the courage to trust can be cultivated from within.

Am I open and authentic? Do I accept myself as I am and do I accept others as they are? Am I responsible for myself and my commitments? Am I caring and kind to myself and others? Am I reliable –can I commit to myself and to others? Am I consistent? Do I respect my truth and my values, or do I cast them aside in the name or fear? In asking myself these questions, I can see where I have work to do on myself. I can see that if I take a risk in being vulnerable and exposing more of my authentic self, this courage will enable others to trust me more, while building my strength, which will serve to build more trust in my belief about managing life and taking risks in trusting others. This is not because they will stop hurting me or breaking trust, but because I will know that whatever happens, I will have the strength to manage.

Respond to all communications in a timely manner as if you stay in touch with the world it will stay in touch with you. It’s time to enact all those career or business plans now and to understand only one person makes success happen and that’s you. The universe is sending you a green light now so don’t just talk about what you are going to do, get those plans into action now Aries. If this month has anything to teach you it is that success favours the do-er, not the dreamer – so no matter what area of life you want to succeed in, June is the month to get the ball rolling.

Money should be seen as energy and having an extra opportunity to embrace the good things of life. It’s not the root of all evil at all but a spiritual experience so embrace the lesson as opportunities to increase your bank account appear. Romance, which is the other side of the coin, can be combined with pleasure and hedonism as you could be celebrating your good fortune with someone who stimulates your senses in more ways that one. This June offers an entrée to success but in your case it’s well earned. If it doesn’t appear then it’s time to upgrade your beliefs around abundance - and what you think you deserve.

128 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 21

If you’ve done all you can and laid the right foundations then it’s time to let go and allow things to happen on their own. Either it happens now or your birthday season will bring in a massive opportunity to head in a much needed fresh, new direction. This may be in an embryonic stage and it will be up to you to nurture it and bring it to fruition. Finally, the same can be said for romance Gemini! Your powers of attraction will be at a peak now but you’ll need to commit to getting what you want from any situation for the long haul but it will prove to be well worth the wait.

This could just turn out to be the start of something big for you Cancer as June brings us the solstice and your birthday season and the year promises to be one of expansion, travel and adventure. Luck is on your side now - I’m not saying be reckless but a calculated risk on your talents or feelings just may just pay out a winning ticket. Think big and singles should know that love is more than just in the air but all around you now. What you radiate you attract back in kind so let it flow and welcome in the season of romance. Now is the time for both love and adventure – the two go hand in hand - so enjoy this time of year Cancer.

Time for a little boldness Leo although shyness usually isn’t your problem! Your social life shifts into high gear with new friends and professional contacts to be made wherever you go so network, network, network! Look out for people who come from different life paths to those with whom you usually socialise. If love is on your agenda, then someone you meet now could turn into much more than just a friend over time - even if this isn’t obvious at first. Don’t be afraid to make the first move when it comes to introductions especially those with people who are just too damn intriguing not to follow up on, making introductions, no matter how scary them seem will reap high rewards later down the line.

Time to dust off everything from your resume to match those ambitions. Showcase yourself and always manage to do this in a way that comes across as just having so much to offer as opposed to blatant self promotion. People in positions of authority who can help you will be watching you closely now so craft that professional image as well. When it comes to your outer persona however, others also like what they are seeing. A makeover could see you going places on both a professional and a personal level now. Remember, if you’re not willing to invest in yourself, then why should anyone else? You could be big business in love and your career now, so now´s the time to let your star really shine.

20 FEB – 20 MAR

Ever feel like you may be starring in someone else’s production? If you’ve been feeling like an understudy in your own life story then this month should put all that to rights. Let’s face it, you may have either unwittingly fallen into a rut or one particular area has been like a never ending trudge through the Gobi desert - despite your best efforts to fix this. Nothing may have worked - until now when an opportunity appears which marks the catalyst for welcome changes as far as you’re concerned. It’s amazing what romance or just a lucky break can do to change your world. Stay positive and stay on the right track your destined for bigger and better things this June Libra.

Changes around your salary, payouts, maintenance or any kind of funding could see you not only having to juggle your resources but you may have to act as your own best negotiator now especially if this involves anything you share with someone be it a joint bank account or a house. Although this may be difficult, it really is time to leave emotion out of the equation and stay business like and keep to the facts. If you look closely at how to handle the situation you’ll see it all comes back to your own values and what you expect. Hot on the heels of this could be news that proves to be a turning point for you in more ways than one - and which offers that self-esteem boost you really need.

It isn’t that you’ve lost your daredevil sense of adventure - not to mention sexiness. It’s just that your focus may shift slightly this month from far, far away to far closer to home. For some this may mean that you’ve found someone who is just nice to come home to, but others will see the benefits of those long term plans and will be focused on them accordingly. Yes, security and routine sound so boring and mundane but without either, there’s nothing to bankroll those big dreams. This is another big dream if you like and it’s making it - and making love, in the long term. So opt for going the distance now. It will end up taking you wherever you want to go.

The first half of June could see you focused on work matters and getting your house in order. That also includes the house of your soul as you look to creating a fitter, more streamlined and sexier version of you, that no one will be able to resist. All this pays off from the end of the second week of June when romance and the opportunity to party allow you to ditch that diet and the more serious you and finally let your hair down. When it comes to love you could just be intrigued by someone very different from your usual ‘type’. Step out of your usual mindset for passion and possible lasting relationship success.

You’re being budget conscious now and staying within your limits. About time to Aquarius as you have been rather frivolous of late! However, when it comes to your heart you may just be prepared to risk all. Good news follows around a business success or a creative venture or else you find yourself in a position to show the world (or just someone special) what you have to offer. You could be mixing and mingling with the ‘A’ list this month so don´t turn down that party or event invitation just yet. One thing is for certain Aquarius, June will give you an opportunity to shine.

Who would have thought that long term planning could bring you so much satisfaction? Living arrangements could be up for discussion now with you and a partner either thinking about moving in together or else others could be contemplating a home upgrade or move. All this adds to your feeling that the future may just be finally unfolding in the way you want it to. Get serious now and don’t live from day-to-day like you have been doing until now. Even if it’s emotional bricks and mortar you’re laying down, this is set to be your love foundation for a long time to come. Sounds scary or boring? No Pisces this is just what you´ve been looking for.
