everyone’s talking about... RYAN AND BLAKE BABY NO.2

Over a year ago now Blake gave birth to their first daughter, James. Now with the current speculation of baby number two on its way, fans are going crazy at the thought of a new addition to the beautiful Reynolds family. Blake has been papped covering her stomach wearing a wetsuit as she shot for The Shallows in California. Sources have reportedly said she has admittedly been feeling a huge brood. Herself and Ryan have always made it clear about wanting a big family as they both come from big families themselves and we can't wait to find out the sex of baby no.2, is it too soon to wish for another Ryan Reynolds?!

SHAMED WENTWORTH OPENS UP

Unfortunately Wentworth Miller is the latest celeb to be the victim of fat shaming, but there is more behind the meme that meets the eye as he has revealed to the public the heart breaking truth of his struggles with depression. The meme which was posted by LAD Bible features side by side photos of Miller, one which sees him in a promotional photo from Prison Break toned and shirtless while the other photo from the year after the show ended shows the actor looking a lot heavier. The caption reads ‘When you break out of prison and find out about McDonald’s monopoly’. After the meme surfaced Miller shared it on his Facebook account and described the painful truth behind the second image. He stated that in 2010 he was semi-retired from acting and was keeping a low profile for a number of reasons. He then shocked fans by revealing he was suicidal, claiming his lifelong battle with depression ‘urged him down the path to self-destruction’. Miller was looking everywhere for

comfort and distraction and instead of turning to drugs, sex and alcohol he turned to food. Wentworth admitted the first time he saw the meme pop up it hurt to breathe but as with everything in life he assigned meaning and moved forward. Following Millers emotional response the LAD Bible took to Facebook, ‘We posted two pictures of you last night to our Facebook page, but today we want to say we’ve got this very, very wrong. Mental health is no joke or laughing matter.’

TESS STANDS BY VERNON AFTER SEXTING BLIP Tess Daly has decided to stand by her man after he was caught sexting Rhian Sugden… again. Vernon Kay was caught in a similar cheating scandal 6 years ago with Rhian which almost cost him his marriage. This time he was caught messaging the 29-year-old model ushering her to wear a wig as they arranged a ‘private meeting’ in a hotel room. Although once hearing the news you would expect that this would be the end for Tess and Vern but the Strictly host has said that she would never let Rhian break up their marriage. The couple have been pictured since the allegations to show the public they are here to stay and they are still going strong. Tess has said that the allegations are a ‘stich up’ even though Vernon’s texts clearly show him planning to meet up with Rhian. A friend told a newspaper that ‘they’re both determined these allegations wont damage them or their family.’ It has also been claimed that Rhian is eager to secure a £100,000 deal for a tell all book detailing her affairs with both Vernon and Russell Brand. The situation is left to Tess, who has reportedly told her husband that if he contacts Rhian again their marriage will be in total jeopardy.

RODRIGUEZ “JEALOUS” OF WALKER

Michelle Rodriguez, who co-starred in several of the Fast and the Furious films with Paul Walker, has admitted that after taking a psychedelic drug, she felt jealous that Walker died before her. The Lost actress said that after losing Paul in a car crash in 2013 she spent a year coping with the death by keeping distracted, trying to get her mind off ‘existentialism and how transient life is’. The star said she went crazy the summer after Walker died as she tried to ‘hide from herself’. During the Reality of Truth documentary she claimed it wasn’t sadness that he had passed it was more of a jealousy that he’s there first. The documentary features interviews examining ‘true reality, spirituality, meditation and psychedelics’, clips were shown of Michelle taking part in a ayahuasca ceremony and drinking a brew of the traditional spiritual medicine.

MILLIE MOVES ON

Less than six weeks after the breakdown of Millie Mackintosh´s marriage to Professor Green, the Made in Chelsea star has been seen out non-stop partying and spending a considerable amount of time with former beau Hugo Taylor. Millie, who married rapper Green in 2013, was first pictured with her ex and former MIC co-star Hugo in Dubai a few weeks after the breakdown of the marriage. The pair then spent a night out (including an overnight stay) at Mackintosh´s €2.5m Chelsea digs. Adding fuel to the fire that Millie has definitely moved on, Hugo posted a picture of 3 rocket emoji´s on Millie´s Instagram page under a picture of her in skin-tight jeans and a backless top. Meanwhile, Green appears to be taking the break up harder, tweeting about lost love and getting his head down in the studio for his forthcoming album. The rumour mill is spinning on who was to blame for this marital break-up?!

So Marty Mcfly from Back to the Future’s self-lacing trainers have finally materialised (only a year later than they predicted back in 1985). Nike have stunned athletes such as Cristiano Ronaldo with their newest invention designed to be a nod to the BTTF franchise and a huge time saver. The amazing new techno-gadget trainers are powered by EARL (electro-adaptive actives laces). They are fitted with small electric sensors and motors that can alter the lace of the shoe for tightening and loosening adjustments. The self-lacing trainers will be out in shops by the end of this year.

The app also automatically remembers the last time you had it and it’ll tell you where to look. A time saver like no other and discretely small when attached to items such as keys so no one else will know your organisation skills aren’t as efficient as the Tile could easily be mistaken for a quirky keyring!

WHAT'S TRENDING... #MURSE

The Murse is on the rise, and for people that don’t know, this is not to be mistaken with the iconic, yet slightly chavvy, man bag. A man bag is commonly connected with the ‘roadman’ (see our feature on page XX) whereas the Murse is slightly more high end, and carried with pride … here it is … the Man Purse or Murse if you will! Designer brands such as Prada, Louboutin and Louis Vuitton are all debuting there new styles of the Murse, the men can’t keep away from the new craze, the likes of David Beckham, Kanye West and Scott Disick have all been seen rocking the Murse. It’s no surprise all the boys are inspired by these style icons for this seasons all new men’s accessory. As Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc Friends) says it best himself, "It is odd how a woman's purse looks so good on me, a man."

At last! A great alternative from the standard skinny jeans and trousers for the upcoming summer season. Wide legs are in! We love the cuffed trousers and think the wide-leg-look is slightly more masculine than the typical skinny jean, especially for guys who have been “skipping leg day” this month.

IN YOUR FACE

Lace has featured heavily on and off the catwalks since Fall 2015. This Spring/Summer lace gets even more daring – with the new breed of IT designers chanelling lace detail into the most risqué and out there garments - even the usually unfazed fashion darlings at Vogue have been choking on their skinny lattes of late. Our favourites include Lily Aldridge´s Vauthier Haute Couture dress, Reem Acra´s full length lace gown (pictured right) and Simone Rocha from Topshop´s appliqued floral lace dress (pictured below) threw in a romantic twist. The high street has some great interpretations of the current designs so shop around for a look that suits you. If you pair a barely there top be sure to go with a full length skirt or trousers, never anything too revealing.

WHAT'S TRENDING... #PATCHWORKING

You love denim…but do you love personalised denim? The fall 2016 collections were filled with one of a kind denims, from off-white’s collaboration with Levi’s to Faith Connexion’s hand painted jeans, this style is all about being unique. The quickest and easiest way to customise your jeans is patches. This DIY trend can be seen on the runways at 3.1 Phillip Lim, DKNY and Stella McCartney and is now being picked up by the A-Lists of Hollywood. The beautiful Margot Robbie was seen getting in on the trend. The Wolf of Wall Street actress livened up a pair of boyfriend fit jeans with retro inspired patches that add a throwback element. She styled it with white Nikes and an off the shoulder sweater and rounded shades. Marbella Rocks has a new style crush.

TRIED & TESTED - WATERPROOF MASCARA

Waterproof mascara is a difficult product to buy. Although they all promise to be smudge resistant, you can never be sure if they will leave you resembling ageing rocker Alice Cooper after a dip in the pool. Our Marbella Rocks testers pitted the top rated waterproofs against each other, read on to see which brand won. MAYBELLINE COLOSSAL MASCARA BLACK WATERPROOF This mascara is so easy to use and the texture of the brush being soft with firm bristles allows each lash to become elongated and voluminous minus any clumps. The waterproof element did turn out to be surprisingly accurate with no signs of any running after a long swim but we then thought we would go the extreme mile and test it in the shower… it only ran a small amount. Great value for such a nifty product although be sure to buy a good make up remover to take off at the end of the day.

CLINIQUE HIGH IMPACT WATERPROOF MASCARA On first application it was great in building a natural look, our tester applied the mascara at 7am and by around 4pm flakes began to fall in the eyes but still no signs of major smudging although it was slightly clumpy. In terms of the waterproof element we used the same test by going swimming and wearing the mascara in the shower. The mascara did run and unfortunately did leave black marks along the bottom of the eye, this product was a slight disappointment from one of the most trusted brands especially considering the heftier price tag.

CHARGRILLED CHICKEN WITH ROCKET AND LEMON PEARL BARLEY For a light summer bite try our amazing chargrilled chicken dish, for a fresh and nutritious yet fulfilling quick meal. This 30-minute meal with chicken and lemon pearl barley, complementing each other perfectly is sure to be the summer flavour, which will be requested again and again.

INGREDIENTS

• 220g (1 cup) pearl barley • 500ml (2 cups) salt-reduced chicken stock • 250ml (1 cup) water • 500ml (2 cups) salt-reduced • 2 teaspoons olive oil • 1 white onion, finely chopped • 2 garlic cloves, crushed • 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon rind • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice • 160ml (2/3 cup) white wine • 1 bunch rocket, ends trimmed, washed, dried, leaves shredded • 20g (1/4 cup) finely grated parmesan • 2 single chicken breast fillets • Olive oil, extra, to brush • Lemon wedges, to serve

METHOD

1. Place the barley in a bowl. Cover with water. Set aside overnight to soak then drain. 2. Bring the stock and water to the boil in a saucepan. Reduce

28 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

heat to low and hold at a gentle simmer. Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until soft. Add the garlic and cook, stirring for 1 minute. 3. Stir in the barley and lemon rind. Add the wine and stir until reduced by half. 4. Add a ladleful (about 125ml / 1/2 cup) of the simmering stock and stir constantly until the liquid is completely absorbed. Continue to add stock, a ladleful at a time, stirring constantly and allowing the liquid to be absorbed before adding the next ladleful, for 20-25 minutes or until barley is tender. Remove from heat. Stir in the lemon juice, rocket and parmesan. Cover and set aside for 5 minutes. 5. Meanwhile, heat a chargrill on medium-high. Lightly brush both sides of the chicken with oil. Cook on grill for 5 minutes each side or until cooked through. Transfer to a plate and cover with foil. Set aside for 5 minutes to rest. Thinly slice diagonally across the grain. As this a summer dish, serve with plenty of rocket 6. Divide the barley mixture among serving plates. Top with chicken and season with pepper. Serve with lemon wedges

WINE MATCH For a light summer dish like this chargrilled chicken it is definitely best to pair with white wines. A dry Sauvignon or unoaked Chardonnay would work nicely with the lemon and slightly acidic flavours. If you want to go for something with a bit more substance I would recommend a Beaujolais – although this is essentially a salad dish it could be a bit strong for some palates. If you are after an affordable lunchtime with friends type of wine, Vina Sol, sold in most supermarket Mercadona is delightful with chicken and a snip at only €5. Salut!

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

ARIANA GRANDE ‘DANGEROUS WOMAN’

Alice (Mia Wasikowska) is back, but this time she’s brought an even bigger cluster of stars with her including the inimitable Rhys Ifans who plays the Mad Hatter´s father Zanik Hightopp and Borat actor Sasha Baron Cohen who plays a quirky half-human, halfclock character. With the likes of Jonny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Matt Lucas reprising their original roles - this film is bound to be a hit. The storyline follows Alice who has spent the last few years following in her father’s footsteps, sailing the seas. When she returns to London she finds a magical looking glass, which takes her to the fantasy land of wonderland. She is reunited with her friends The White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and not forgetting The Mad Hatter, played by Depp. She gets presented a task by The Hatter, which sends her on a mission to find the Grand Clock which powers all time. She bumps into old friends and enemies along the way but embarks on the journey to save the Hatter before the time runs out. As the sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland 2010, Tim however was only the producer on ‘Through The Looking Glass.’ Also this film is even more poignant as it was Alan Rickman’s last ever film before his death in 2016. This is a family fun adventure film that we´re sure will have all viewers on the edge of their seats.

Ariana Grande is set to wow with her new album Dangerous Woman. She’s teased fans by dropping hints of her album coming up to the release date. The lead single from her new album ‘Dangerous Woman’ blends both pop and R&B which gives it an Ariana twist. Soaring vocals make the track sound just as powerful as its name. "A really long time ago, I was convinced it was going to be called Moonlight, because it was one of my favourite songs that we did for the album. And now, as we're wrapping things up, I've been writing and singing and we're at the final stretch... and there's this other song that has kind of thrown me for a whirlwind and I love it so much and it's changing everything," Ariana said. The album name change came as a shock to fans and the new album name was trending in a matter of minutes. Ariana’s album ‘Dangerous Woman’ is set to be released in May, although she released the hit song ‘Focus’ in October it is unsure if it has made the cut for the new album release. We do know however that Ariana is getting raunchier with her lyrics as the title track has just been released on iTunes and has been getting fans hot under the collar. The sexy and sultry song praises the seduction power of her lover and has already hit the number 13 spot in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It’s safe to say fans are well and truly excited to hear her new tunes. With a vocal range to match Mariah Carey´s Ariana´s firing on all cylinders now.

8 million records and were behind hits Build Me Up Buttercup and UK number 1 Baby, Now That I´ve Found You. I left shortly after the Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz film There´s Something About Mary, where Build Me Up was on the soundtrack. YOU HAVE ALSO HAD A CAREER IN TV MUSIC PRODUCTION?

Caz and Dave Stevens

Yeah in 1997 when I first met Caz we were both producing for music and TV production company Talkback, which was the record label part of Talkback Thames. We got to work with some amazing artists including Sacha Baron Cohen and Wham and Manic Street Preachers producer Steve Brown – writing and producing material with them. WHO HAVE YOU WORKED WITH RECENTLY?

The last big project we worked on was Tia Irvine Hendrix, Jimi Hendrix´s daughter. We were called the other day asking to work on some new material. She´s an amazing talent. We also still work with the US producer Blake Eiseman behind Beyonce and Pink. WHAT WAS THE BEST PART OF YOUR MUSICAL CAREER?

Dave with Clem Curtis and The Foundations Live Lounge owners Caz and Dave Stevens are both hugely successful singers, songwriters and music producers in their own right. Caz has sung professionally from the age of 8 while Dave has performed with soul band The Foundations behind the smash hit Build Me Up Buttercup. The couple, originally from Loughton in Essex, moved to Marbella a few years ago and while Caz envisioned opening a quaint Laura Ashley decorated tearoom – Dave had other ideas… buying the venue formerly known as Beaky´s and launching one of the hottest live music venues on the coast, Live Lounge. 16 months on the couple look back at the success they have created with gusto saying, “I am so proud of what we´ve achieved in such a short space of time.” Marbella Rocks caught up with the musical duo to find out more about them and plans for Live Lounge.

DAVE HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE MUSIC BUSINESS?

I played in my very first rock band at 14 where I played at the Picadilly Patches. I then went on to form Bogaz, the band that wrote the theme tune for BBC One show Hotline with Gloria Hunniford and Chris Tarrant. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST MUSICAL SUCCESS?

Being part of the biggest British soul band of the 60´s and 70´s The Foundations for 13 years. The group sold

Playing the London Paladium with Cliff Richard and a host of other stars for a Roy Carson tribute. It was amazing to play on stage to a packed audience. WAS THERE MUCH SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL?

Honestly no!! It was all travelling and tours and we were flying or performing most of the time. We were too knackered to do anything else!

CAZ YOU COME FROM A VERY SHOWBIZ FAMILY CAZ, CAN YOU TELL US MORE?

Yeah my great, great grandmother was Eva Fox, from 20th Century Fox so I was born into a showbiz family. HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE RECORD INDUSTRY?

I went to the Ava Foster performing arts school. Aged 12 I was signed to the very first independent record label Major Minor Records. They only had 3 artists, me Johnny Nash and Tom Jones. At aged 14 I was signed to the now famous Decca Records and went on to perform at the International Song for Europe, where I came second. Abba´s Bjorn and Bennie actually won that year! WHERE DID YOU GO FROM THERE?

I was more into country and rock so aged 16 I was signed to CBS and taken to Nashville, Tenessee where I got to work with some big stars like Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson and The Oakbridge Boys. Aged 18 I decided I had to have a break from the industry so I had a few years off. Later I got back into session singing and disco in the 80´s and 90´s and got to work with the Bee Gees.

Record producers were quite into signing page 3 girls and pretty types that couldn´t really sing so I basically performed their tracks! I can´t tell you who they were as I could get sued!!! CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ALBUM?

I produced a disco version of Sitting on the Dock of the Bay and the track was such a huge success I produced an album which did very well in Europe. DID YOU ALSO PRODUCE DANCE TRACKS?

Yeah, I thought my recording career was over but in the late 90´s I got asked to sing as “Priva” on a top ten dance track called Your Givin Me. It was a huge club classic which to this day I find hilarious as I was 40 odd and singing a dance track. After Priiva I decided I wanted to give back and got a job with the major record labels coaching young singers including Sinitta – I used to work with a lot of Simon Cowell´s artists and even with Simon Cowell too, he´s such a nice bloke.

NATIONAL REPORT ON ROADSAFETY IN SPAIN (DGT) Between 2003 and 2007 over 316,600 motorbikes over 500cc were licensed in Spain. According to Spanish statistics, motorbike riders are 17 times more likely to be injured in a road traffic accident than car drivers. In order to understand and then reduce the number of motorbike accidents, the DGT (Spanish equivalent of the DLVC) has produced a report on road traffic safety. Here we bring you the main conclusions of why these accidents occur.

WHEN DO ACCIDENTS OCCUR

Nearly 30% of urban motorbike and scooter accidents happen at the weekend and the percentage of accidents resulting in death increases to 42%. The highest rate occurs between 06.00h and 20.00h.

OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED

81% of motorbike accidents involve at least one other vehicle. Although the mortality rate decreases slightly when another vehicle is involved. 70% of accidents result from collisions between bikes and other vehicles. In urban areas, 3 out of 4 accidents involving bikes, also involve another vehicle

WHY DO ACCIDENTS HAPPEN 5 factoring conditions have been taken into consideration; traffic, road surface, atmospheric, human and accident type. In urban areas, the injury increases by 31% in faster moving traffic. This means that 97% of mortalities occur in fluid traffic. 95% of accidents occur during good weather conditions. This also implies that fewer motorbikes and scooters drive in bad weather. Statistically, the conditions of the road do not significantly affect the level of accidents.

THE HUMAN FACTOR

In urban areas, alcohol, and drugs increase the injury level by 170%, whilst speed increases the level by 370%. The report estimates that almost a third of accidents involving motorbikes and other 4 wheeled vehicles result form the motorbike not being seen by the driver of the car. 40% of accidents in urban areas involve head-on or side collisions between bikes and cars.

KEY FINDINGS OF THE REPORT

In urban areas, accidents occur at intersections involving traffic lights and roundabouts. On roads, the majority of accidents happen when overtaking on dual carriageways and normal roads, at exits and entries, and at intersections involving stop signs and give way.

E

veryone is familiar with the gorgeous model who is Miss Kendall Jenner, if you don’t know you must’ve been hiding under a rock for the past 8 years?! She is an American fashion model and television personality who first made waves after appearing in the sometimes cringeworthy, but nonetheless internationally famed E! reality television show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The all-rounder has been collaborating with top fashion and beauty brands including Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Estee Lauder and Victoria´s Secret to acting in Hawaii Five-0 - this girl is seriously talented and at the top of her game aged only 20.

34 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

features

It´s with no shame Kendall admits to using the reality show as a platform to launch her existing modelling career - which has sparked a difference from her famous sisters Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Kylie who have all launched clothing lines but have never stepped foot on the catwalk itself. Kendall has made a big jump into the modelling industry thanks to her striking good looks and killer figure and compared to her siblings, she is considered a positive role model to all her young fans. A little bit more chic, sexy and classy than the likes of Kim and Khloe – who regularly get public beratings for over the top antics and barely there dresses!

KUWTK

Kendall first appeared on the reality show in 2007. Her childhood from the age of 12 has been televised on the show and fans have watched her blossom from a sulky child into the beautiful woman she is today. Kendall, unlike her sisters, has always been less of a reality star diva and more of a career driven go-getter which is what sets her apart from the rest. The show highlights her close relationship with her baby sister Kylie, her 8 half siblings including the Kardashian sisters and her parents Kris and newly gender transitioned dad Caitlyn Jenner, try that for a crazy family!

FASHION MODEL

Kendall began modelling at the early age of 14 after being signed up by Wilhelmina Models who scouted her

potential. Her earliest campaign was in 2009 for the fashion chain Forever 21 and in 2011 she walked for Sherri Hill during MercedesBenz Fashion Week after which her career soared from strength to strength. The end of 2012 saw Kendall on the covers of various teen targeted magazines including GenLux and by the end of the year she teamed up with world famous Victoria’s Secret photographer Russell James. The partnership between the two hit Harper’s Bazaar and the model featured her writing in ‘James Nomad Two Worlds: Australia’, the quality of her editorial work saw the transition from commercial to high fashion which led to her signing with The Society Management in 2014. In spring 2014, Jenner walked for the prestigious fashion weeks in New York for Marc Jacobs and Paris for Givenchy and Chanel. Her acceptance by high fashion labels proved to models and designers that she was cut out for the best modelling jobs in the world; Kendall is tall, dark haired and beautiful and the catwalk has indeed become her life. She has also walked on catwalks for Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger and Fendi just to name a few. She has been on the covers of GQ and Vogue and was the face of the Balmain campaign alongside model and best friends Gigi and Bella Hadid (all this before hitting 20 we have to add). Kendall is indeed living her dream, she was interviewed at 13-yearsold stating she would love to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel and she recently ticked that dream off her bucket list… she walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show in 2015

which was recorded at the 69th Regiment Armoury in New York looking poised and flawless.

POPULARITY

The model has a large and strong following. She has been ranked as one of 30 most influential teens alongside her sister Kylie for the past two years and has been placed as the No.1 most followed model on Facebook, Instagram and the 2nd most followed model on Twitter not far behind modelling tycoon Tyra Banks. Alongside her popularity from her teen fans she also debuted as No.2 on FHM’s annual 100 Sexiest Women in the World list in April 2015 proving that she is in demand by just about everyone. Kendall, like many other normal girls her age, uses her social media platforms to share photos of herself, family and friends but unlike the others she uses them to plug her many endorsements and commercial projects. The unique factor is that she uses her social media to influence her fashion credibility in a way that speaks to millions. Kendall has used the Kardashian affiliation that first shot her into the limelight and made a lasting name for herself but she always had the gift since an early age. “I would literally sit at home and have my friends take pictures of me on my little Canon camera that my mum gave me for Christmas, obviously the show was being in front of a camera, it’s just something I have always been around.” Kendall stated about her busy lifestyle balancing the show and modelling: “It’s definitely two different worlds. I feel like Hannah Montana but it is fun.”

features ENDORSEMENTS

Ms Jenner has featured alongside her sister in their ‘Kendall + Kylie’ collaboration with Topshop which was a global success. The biggest highlight of her career came recently in the form of being the brand face for the world´s largest cosmetic company, Estee Lauder, netting her a cool $4m last year alone. She has also fronted ads for Modern Muse le Rouge, Shimmer Body Lotion and Pure Colour collection and the company created a limited edition Kendall Jenner shade brand of Pure Colour Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick in 2015. Kendall also has her own official website with lifestyle blogs and paid subscription mobile app extensions. Plus, earlier this year the Jenner sisters paired with Glu Mobile and developed a spin off from their half-sisters mobile app ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ called ‘Kendall and Kylie’ which launched last month…there is no stopping Kendall´s global superstar status.

RELATIONSHIPS

It goes without saying that Kendall has attracted a lot of male attention from the who´s who of A-List hotties. She famously dated One Direction´s Harry Styles for a year and has rumoured to have hooked up with Nick Jonas, Lewis Hamilton and the Biebs! Unlike her sisters the model is quiet about her love life and she has never flaunted a relationship on the show before - but she does post pictures of her and these A-list links on her social media accounts, breaking admirer’s hearts worldwide.

RIGHT NOW

Kendall is currently rocking her fashion status and recently walked New York Fashion Week for Vera Wang and Michael Kors alongside Lady Gaga and made her fashion debut walking for Dior. Last month Kendall was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld alongside Jerry Hall and Gigi Hadid in an editorial for V’s 100th Issue. She is a young model making serious fashion history…Go Kendall.

DRAMA

Kendall is currently dealing with family drama, recent claims have hit suggesting that the brunette is demanding a DNA test as a paternity bombshell has hit the Kardashian clan following claims Caitlyn Jenner is not her real father. It has been thought the other person in the frame is Kris Jenner’s former flame Todd Waterman, watch this space for the result!

THE RISE OF THE ROADMAN

U

rban Dictionary Definition: ‘Roadman comes from the 21st Century slang word, describing a boy (normally at a teenage age) as someone who thoroughly knows the ins and outs of his area, and the people in the area - he will also be involved in popular events such as trapping, driving, parties etc. Gone are the days of slang being the usual ‘chav’ and ‘gangster’ the recent months have seen the rapid rise of the roadman. On first instance yes it does sound like a road sweeper but don’t be mistaken as it is far from that! The term roadman refers to the tendencies of the roadman groups to hang around on street corners and endear in activities that require an air of confidence alongside the knowledge of how to play the system on the street (sounds like a full time job?!) Their slang is along the lines of ‘fam’ and ‘innit’ terminology that is used in and around the streets.

Don’t feel too old or not with it if this is the first you have heard about the term, an article surfaced after a confused parent asking ‘Mumsnet’ what her son’s urban slang ‘roadmen’ means resulting in a spark of hilarious comments from a group of none the wiser mums. Kate said: "Modern version of a highway man? Someone who repairs roads?" Louh said: "I had this conversation with my son a couple of weeks ago. My boy (19) says it's a 'baller'. Jordan added: "I think it's a bit like the word gangster?" However Starlingbrook disagrees, saying: "My son says a baller can't be a roadman." The 21st century have definitely come equipped with their own dictionary. The usual attire of a roadman comes in the form of tracksuits accompanied by the trademark of the little man bag! Hilarious ‘starter packs’ hit Twitter and Instagram outlining the things you need to successfully become a roadman, from all black outfits

46 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

ROADMAN STARTER PACK to Stone Island to a Hugo Boss snapback. Back in the day the pretentious David and Victoria Beckham prior to their children used to be ‘Roadmen’ from their matching tracksuit attire which was used to ‘rep’ their status. American rapper Drake has been spending a lot of time in the UK and fans have begun to dub him an honorary London roadman. His constant support for grime and UK artists such as Skepta and Sneakbo did not come unnoticed by fans as he references them in tweets and even drops their lyrics in his raps, even more he watches British drama Top Boy which led to Twitter users mocking the rapper on his London roadman persona. Someone who threw themselves into the roadman persona by accident was none other than former Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg (!). The innocent clothing choice of a North Face jacket on this Twitter handle caused one user to post a blown up version of the profile picture with the comment ‘Clegg you absolute roadman’ following ‘Nick Clegg, more like Yung Clegg, am I rite?’ The comment caused a stir on social media and of course went viral.

So there you have it, everything you need to know about being a ‘roadman’ from the clothes to the slang, once you put that Stone Island jacket on you will instantly be part of this gang so avoid at all costs.

Ghost Vodka Dangerously British Ghost Vodka is making headlines around the world… an ultra premium quintessentially British vodka born in a haunted salt depot in Cambridgeshire… you can easily see why! Marbella Rocks had the pleasure of catching up with co-founder and brand ambassador David Stokes to find out about the vodka that everyone´s going crazy for.

What is so unique about Ghost Vodka and what is its USP? Ghost Vodka is hand crafted, organic and British. We use only 100% British ingredients and it is distilled from locally grown sugar beet from the rural British countryside. Our bottles are made from black glass and have black wax seals that come with miniature skull embossed knives to open. We also have 3 stunning looking bottles: Gold, Silver and

Union Jack and these also come in Magnum sizes depending on the colour scheme and style of the venue.

We hear you are now stocked in the world's top bars clubs and stores, can you name a few? Things have been going brilliantly and in less than 10 months we have managed to gain access to the majority of the uber exclusive members clubs in London; Tramps, Annabel’s, where they have already made one of their top signature cocktails using Ghost; “The Rolls Royce Martini,” 5 Hertford Street and also Raffles in Chelsea are stockists. Department store wise we have Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly where our Union Jack bottle outsold all their other vodka brands 3 to 1.

How has European outreach gone? We only launched in June 2015 and we are already listed in the affluent Cote d´Ázur region in the South of France. So far you will find Ghost Vodka at the famous Gotha Club and VIP Room in Cannes, Jimmy´s in Monaco and the Biblos in St. Tropez. All top nightspots in these areas.

What about the rest of the world? This summer we are hitting Spain in particular the Costa del Sol, hence my visit to you here in Marbella! We have had a fair bit of interest from the leading clubs and nightspots. We have earmarked Dubai, India and Asia as the next key hotspots to reach out to by the end of the year.

Are there any celebrity fans of Ghost Vodka? Roger Daltry of The Who will only drink Ghost Vodka now!

Who do you see as your main competition in the vodka market? Ultra premium brands like Grey Goose and Belvedere.

What's Ghost Vodka best served with?

“Fans of the Ghost brand are coining a new phrase…they have been Ghosted – it´s really starting to catch on” David says. It is excellent served over ice – as a classic Vespa Martini. Although one of my new personal favourite cocktails is Ghost Vodka, fresh pear and St. Germant elderflower cordial. You have a real edge with Ghost Vodka so it makes the flavour of most cocktails that little bit different and special.

What's your pricing like? Upper end - similar to Grey Goose and Belverdere. Grey Goose scored

54 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

88, Belvedere 91 and we scored 97 out of 100 in the Difford´s Spirit Guide.

Please tell us more about your haunted Cambridgeshire distillery? Ghost Vodka was originally distilled in the picturesque surroundings of the British countryside. In Victorian times, an old salt depot occupied the site. Rumours had it that whilst the distillery was being built the workers were tormented by all kinds of unexplained happenings at night such as strange howls and what sounded like faint screams and eerie shadows flitting about outside. Things would be knocked off the side in their living quarters, windows would fly open for no reason and they would feel something mysterious brush past them where they lay terrified in their beds. Naturally this scared the poor

workers out of their minds and many didn’t stay on the job very long! Strangely after the opening no one working there was ever troubled by screams or howls, mysterious banging windows and doors or sinister shadows again. At night all to be heard was a peaceful country wind rustling through the trees, the odd creaks and cranks from the copper pot stills, a nice bright moon and the odd glass (or bottle) of vodka in the evening!

You are here in Marbella with the aim of capturing the Spanish Market, how's it gone so far? Great, we´ve had lots of interesting meetings. We want to capture the market by having Ghost Vodka at the best hotels, bars and clubs in Spain.

What's your favourite place to go in Marbella? The Puente Romano Beach Resort is stunning.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you came to be brand ambassador? I was originally in close protection and a security consultant minding interesting people from actors, musicians, diplomats and high net worth individuals. Representing this brand was a natural step as I am so well connected in various fields. My business partner and friend Hugh Bower came to me with the idea of launching a unique British vodka brand. He was in the finance sector in the City and wanted to try something new. Ghost Vodka was born.

MAD ABOUT

HAIR THIS

SUMMER A

woman's hair is her crown and glory!! While it is clear that clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories all have changing trends to follow, hair is not something we consider while choosing a fresh new style for the coming season.

Georgia from Marbella Beauty Academy trained as a C.I.B.T.A.C. Beauty Therapist and is also a Stylist and Personal Shopper in London, she has a passion for Fashion and Beauty. Georgia has worked on a number of shoots and has written for several magazines.

But hair can bring the whole look together, you can look streetwise and then professional, adorable and then suddenly take on a wild sexy look! Plaits are the rage right now and look especially gorgeous in the summer months; shopping, sport, holidays, long hot days at the beach and festivals, they are ultra pretty and extremely versatile, there is a braid for everyone. S/S16 saw a variety of cool styles from beautiful French braids to super skinny punk plaits. Shows like Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen and Rochas all provided the ultimate spring/summer inspirations for 2016. Miniature plaits added to your hair are in As seen at the Louis Vuitton Show in Paris this year, it is a very Boho look, mixing it up with a bigger plait is a really soft feminine option for long hot days on the beach. Plaits couldn’t come at a better time!

HAIR & BEAUTY

As festival season is almost here, Cochella kicked it off last month with fun, fresh and maybe a bit crazy looks for this summer: Pastel colours, neon colours, beach waves and boho braids are all on the festival hair agenda. Kate Bosworth rocked a new center parting braid during weekend one of Cochella, Shay Mitchel also sported this hair look with cute denim shorts black bodycon and a black see through Kaftan - very fresh.

WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH COLOUR TRENDS 2016 Blondes are warming up with gold tones, rose gold and strawberry blonde hues, which warm up a pale complexion beautifully. The new colour is “ronze” a mixture of copper red and bronze brown! So rich and luxurious. Brown hair colours have gone woody ranging from expresso to chocolate! Alice bands, crowns and collars decorate sleek straight hair and super smooth ponytails.

Kardashian clan, Kim has some of the most talked about hair do´s, from her expresso coloured side sweep fringes to her whiter than white blonde locks she has taken the plunge more than a few times to reinvent her look. Kim was actually one of the first celebrities to try out Olaplex, the fibre rebuilding treatment that actually repairs the hair shaft allowing its users to experiment with colour. However, what not a lot of people know is, Kim has actually really damaged her hair by going from dark to blonde then back to dark again within a matter of weeks. This is a process that should have been done a lot more slowly and it has done irrepairable damage to Kim´s locks. Many of the pictures you see Kim in of late she is wearing a wig! Yes a wig, you heard it hear first. Olaplex is indeed a fantastic product to strengthen and reinforce the hairs natural fibres but it is by no way a licence to do whatever you want to your hair. Always consult a trusted stylist before you try anything new or potentially damaging.

KENDALL Marbella Rocks cover star and my

personal favourite Kardashian, Kendall has hair to dye for. She is not as experimental with colour and cuts as her siblings but always looks sophisticated and polished favouring a long chocolate brown hair do that she ties up frequently

HAIR & BEAUTY in cool top knots and up dos. Kendall is forever on shoots and runway shows and keeps her hair in tip top condition with weekly hair masks, a must with all that tugging and blowdrying. Here at the Daniel Boardman Salon we use only the finest product lines including Sebastian, Wella and Olaplex. For reparation after styling I recommend Sebastian´s Professional Hydre trio of Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment. For an intense treatment we have just secured Jennifer Aniston´s new haircare line Living Proof which contains OFMPA, a molecule designed to smooth, repair and shield hair strands. It has a heftier price tag but is well worth it for its miraculous results.

KYLIE The youngest of the Kardashian clan, Kylie is by far the most experimental with her hair

and trying out current trends. You generally see older sister Kim following in her footsteps a few weeks after Kylie has tried something out. Well they do so imitation is the highest form of flattery. Kylie is a colour chameleon favouring blue one week, green the next although my favourite hue on her is caramel blonde. Kylie encourages her fans to switch up their hairstyles saying its so much fun and can make you feel liberated. We know that Kylie is a huge fan of wigs and weaves though, so many of these transformations may have been done with little or no damage to her natural hair. As she says on her website, “Wigs are so much easier because I change my mind so much.

KHLOE Khloe currently has a gorgeous long blonde

hair do, which really suits her new slimmed down look and is perfect for the beachy, LA summers. Khloe has done this gradually and it really shows in the condition of her hair. (Kim should have taken a leaf out of her book!) In 2015 Khloe sported the ever popular ombre look and has taken this a step further in 2016 by upping the bleach to create a sandy blonde colour that veers more on the balyage trend, with roots and her own natural colour flowing through it. Balyage is also witnessing somewhat of a comeback – it is more natural than the block colour of ombre and looks more like natural, sunkissed highlights on its wearers. While Khloe never gains many column inches compared to her more famous sisters, this look is perfect for her and she´s completed the sleek transformation seamlessly.

KOURTNEY Busy mum of three Kourtney has

favoured the same simple, long hair do for a number of years now. Luckily due to her heritage (her father is of American Armenian descent) she has naturally, beautiful thick hair. If you are not as blessed as Kourtney in the hair stakes her long do is easily achieved with extensions. You can choose to go for volume extensions or length which automatically creates Kourtney Kardashian´s hip skimming look. Daniel Boardman salon has just taken on Great Lengths hair extensions, which are among the best on the market and come in every colour way including balayage and ombre. Plus, if you are after Kourtney´s poker straight look the salon does Keratin hair straightening which gives that polished sleek look with no need for additional blow-drying.

BROWS

We all know our make-up routine and what lippy suits us best but brows are often an area that we neglect but are so important to framing our face and achieving our overall look. There are also so many options to choose from nowadays, besides the basic threading or waxing of yesteryear, that can leave many brow baffled. To decide which look and treatment to go for we´ve covered the top 3 brow treatments of 2016: Microblading, HD and Tattooing; assessing their pro´s, con´s and ultimately if they would suit you.

To get your perfect brows this summer ring the team at Bardou on +34 951 518 680 or visit their website at: www.thebardou.com

86 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

MICROBLADING THE LOWDOWN:

Microblading is a relatively new technique that involves drawing individual, crisp hair strokes that are far more natural looking than brow pencils and powders. The blade of a microblading pen contains numerous pins that are 3 times thinner than the needles used for tattooing so expect a refined look. Microblading is perfect for people with sparse hairs as it can recreate the look of a fuller brow. What not a lot of people know is that thinner eyebrows can make you look older and a stronger arch makes you look more confident. Therefore getting a shape and look that suits you is a must. PRO´S: No downtime CON´S: Effects can last up to 18 months so be sure this is the look for you. MAINTENANCE: Fading may occur after one year. CELEB FANS: Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Sienna Miller, Selma Hayek PRICE: On Consultation

HAIR & BEAUTY

HD BROWS THE LOWDOWN:

A seven-step approach to achieving the perfect symmetrical brows to suit you including waxing, tinting and shaping. Whilst not new, HD Brows are still one of the most popular on the market and are tailored to a clients specific needs and even personality. At Bardou, HD Brow technician Tori, will undertake a detailed consultation with each client to assess their needs and after the waxing, tinting and shaping process is complete, you will be given a regrowth programme for any areas that are sparse and a make-up tutorial on how to fill the areas with the best products until regrowth occurs. PRO´S: Natural and tailored for you. CON´S: Upkeep – you will have to keep up with the monthly appointments. MAINTENANCE: Every 4 weeks. CELEB FANS: Megan Fox, Scarlett Johansson, Kylie Minogue, Emma Watson PRICE: Starts from €40

TATTOOING THE LOWDOWN:

Eyebrow tattooing has had some bad press in the past but do not let these reports fool you, the marker pen look favoured by Kim Kardashian wannabe´s is all but gone. Bardou owner Natalie Richardson´s tried and tested method will leave no indicators of a marked line or presence of a tattooist as she uses hypoallergenic minerals to weave microscopic hair strokes over your natural brow. This is all done under intense magnification using a precision acupuncture needle so there is literally no room for error. There is also no pain as a numbing cream is applied. The result, fabulous looking brows within two hours, even for blondes and fair haired women that may have previously thought tattooing was not an option for them. While the results are longlasting note that a top up is required within 2-4 weeks as there is usually a slight pigment fading. PRO´S: Perfect brows for up to a year. CON´S: Semi-permanent, so make sure you use a true professional like Natalie. MAINTENANCE: 6-9 months. CELEB FANS: Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, Rihanna PRICE: On consultation

HEALTH & FITNESS

SEXERCISE Y

The newest edition to the booming fitness industry on the coast, Luke is owner and coach of Marbella´s first “women´s only outdoor boot camp company” – Miss Fit Marbella. Luke specialises in fitness for women, (weight loss and toning) and is a strong believer in training outdoors, which is why, all of his sessions are based on the beaches of Marbella, Puerto Banus and Nueva Andalucia. Expect to find articles that focus on exercise for the female sex, tips on how to achieve your body goals, help on those stubborn problem areas, education of nutrition and lifestyle and how exercise doesn’t have to be boring! “Don’t mistake fitness for a gym! Fitness is more than that, it is a lifestyle and can be anywhere or everywhere!”

ou may be thinking to yourself, sex as exercise. Well… while I mainly promote beach fitness this is one exercise anyone can get involved in - any time, any place, anywhere. I want to show you that Sexercise is a great form of exercise, can help us keep fit and should be a part of our daily lives. Everyday, thousands of us make up another excuse as to why we don’t exercise and why we are still upset with the way we look and more importantly feel. “I have to look after the kids…I have too much work on…I can´t afford the gym…(or my personal favourite)…I will start on Monday!” Sound familiar?! Well now there is no excuse (unless you are single!) Sorry guys and girls, this one is based more towards the lucky lot who have a partner. Despite all of the above, terribly lame excuses as to why we cannot fit in 30 minutes of exercise into our daily routines, won´t wash anymore. Luckily, we all do the same thing every night - go to bed! So what better way to burn some late night calories than by having sex!

SO WHAT IS SEXERCISE?

Sexercise is using foreplay and the act of sexual physical exercise; to tone, build and strengthen our muscles as well as helping us to burn calories and stay fit and healthy. Sounds good right!? You also may be asking yourself, why I have decided to talk about Sexercise and is there any research to further my claims or am I making this all up? Last year a commissioned study from Superdrug went national, in which they surveyed and tested 2,000 couples… the idea was to get people staying active through the act of sex. My brother, also a personal trainer, was asked to design a Sexercise routine. Health experts came together (no pun intended) to design a 23 minute long workout music track to accompany the idea. (Apparently - 23 minutes is the average time the couples lasted.) Slightly dodgy, lyric less music (sorry Superdrug) had set tempos and certain positions were chosen to help maximise the physical effects and results on our bodies during sex. The concept was fun but what I was more surprised by was the Sexercise calorie counting website that accompanied this raunchy take on exercise. Simple and easy to use, the calorie counter calculated how many calories you and your partner would burn during sex. By quickly filling in your weight, your partner’s weight, the sexual positions used and the time for each. Press OK – and there you had it, a complete breakdown of your calories burnt

To try it for yourself check out the website at Superdrug´s online doctor: www.onlinedoctor.superdrug.com 88 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

HEALTH & FITNESS

WHAT WERE THE RESULTS?

I was intrigued; so I put in my weight, my partners weight and choose certain positions and durations for each and the website showed me how many calories I burnt for each. 131 calories in total! Not fully satisfied with the amount I had burnt in the positions I had chosen, I decided to put in every position and see which burnt the most. And to save you girls and boys time….I put in every position and have combined the results in the table below to show you the 3 best sex positions to burn the most calories during sex: Sex Positions for him

READY TO GO AGAIN…ROUND 2?

I wouldn’t be a very good fitness columnist if my only message today was to go away and have sex to burn calories; so I am going to show you ladies the best positions to fight those problem areas. In addition to the best positions I will give you a Sex Tip on each to ensure you engage the right body part to maximise the results whilst having sex.

BUM AND INNER THIGHS

Squatting – The queen of the bum exercises Squatting will work not only your bum but will target your quads, hamstrings and abs all at the same time. Sex Tip: To ensure you engage your bum - drive your knees out and keep the weight on your heels. To work your inner thighs, turn your feet out to a wider angle!

Any calories burnt are better than no calories burnt and any muscle building or toning is better than none. So next time you go to bed, have a think about Sexercise and see if you notice the difference by making it part of your daily routine.

ABDOMINALS

Lotus Position This exercise is a very close exercise and so needs a bit of hip action. This will ensure your abdominals and bum are worked in this position. Sex Tip: Bring your belly button in and tense your abdominals as you thrust your hips backwards and forwards. By doing so, we should use our core and focus on working those abdominals!

ALL BODY WORKOUT

The Bridge Potentially the hardest position on the list. Can be done standing or seated, working your arms, abs, legs‌you name it, it is being used! Sex Tip: Squeeze you glutes and lift your hips up to really feel a burn on your bum and abdominals.

ARMS (BICEPS/TRICEPS) Wheelbarrow A slightly more advanced exercise which requires upper body strength but will leave you with toned arms and no more bingo wings.

Sex Tip: Try lowering your arms to perform a press up for extra work and, squeeze your PC muscles to try and perform Kegels throughout. This should result in a stronger pelvic floor. Good for both you and him!

So there you have it. How to enjoy exercise, burn more calories, tone up, and overall Sexercise. Be safe and remember to stretch!

OLIVIA’S LA CALA RESTAURANT REVIEW

O

livia's La Cala is set in the beautiful surroundings of La Cala de Mijas overlooking the sea, under the stars with stunning panoramic views. The first thing you will notice is the beautiful white walled and glass exterior of the restaurant, not your typical beach eatery but this is where Olivia´s excels – you can have all the finery and décor of a trendy London restaurant like Nobu but placed beside the stunning beach and palm tree location that all diners can soak up literally a stones throw away. In case you didn´t know, Olivia´s La Cala is owned by reality TV star Elliott Wright where he had the dream of creating “the best restaurant on the Costa del Sol.” To be honest, according to our glowing review below, you´ll see he´s coming pretty damn close. Olivia´s has already been given a nod in the annual Marbella Awards in the Best Restaurant category alongside the Puente Romano´s Uni, despite being open only a mere 8 months. Aside from the stunning scenery, the food at Olivia´s is to die for. The

delicious A La Carte menu has a wide selection to suit every palette from modern Asian fusion cuisine such as Miso Cod and Massaman Curry to traditional modern cuisine such as Rack of Lamb, Confit Duck Croquettes and Olivia´s Burger with Brie and Onions – there´s a great twist to even the most classic dishes. Plus there are Steaks in all their variants with a choice of tantalising sauces and side dishes. Our reviewers opted for the Crispy Pork Belly accompanied with curried cauliflower puree, burgos black pudding and caramelised baby apples. You could tell straight away the pork was slow cooked as it was so succulent it literally melted in your mouth. The curried cauliflower gave the dish an extra kick while the caramelised apples resulted in a sweet burst of flavour. All in all a mesmerising dish with a large helping of perfectly crispy crackling made it soar to the top of our reviewers list of best dishes tasted on the coast. On recommendation of the attentive waiter our reviewer chose the Wild Alaskan Salmon cured with beetroot and aperol, pickled beets and Spanish

queen olives. The dish was full of flavour and the aromas and tanginess of the beetroot complimented the fish harmoniously. The Olivia´s menu also includes a delicious tapas selection ranging from Tempura Tiger Prawns to Pot Roasted Drummettes with soy and ginger for those that fancy a lighter bite. The dessert menu offers an enticing range from Lemongrass and Coconut Crème Burn to the devilishly good Triple Chocolate Mousse. Reviewers opted for the Vanilla Cheesecake with red fruit, mango and passion fruit with white chocolate Bailey´s sauce and the Sticky Toffee Pudding with cinnamon ice-cream and orange toffee sauce. Both were divine, served beautifully on wide slate plates with decorative sauce swirls. All in all, a faultless dining experience that our reviewers can whole-heartedly recommend.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

The bar has a unique selection of delectable cocktails from all the usual classics to literally anything you can challenge their mixologists to make with three champagne and cocktail

gastronomy

bars in association with Moet within Olivia’s you really are spoiled for choice for pre or post dinner drinks. The restaurant is also home to live entertainment 7 nights a week - from the likes of Reberto Cantero, the Jazz Duo and Lucy Faye to RnB duo Tmar and Rjay - it really is the place to be this summer.

FAMILY HEAVEN

The Sunday Lunch is also apparently a firm favourite with the locals featuring 3 courses at only €23.95. Choose from beef, pork, lamb and chicken all served with satisfying sides and cooked to perfection. Elliot has always endeavoured to create a restaurant which is welcoming for families and he has certainly achieved this with Olivia´s. Himself a father of two (his daughter is Olivia) Elliot knows it is hard to find great food but in restaurants that are welcoming of children with ambience. Yet he´s done it here.

BREAKFAST

Plus, if you like the dinner as much as our reviewers…who decided to come back and sample the breakfast menu the next day… then you will not be disappointed. Some of the dishes on offer include Smoked Salmon served with avocado and scrambled egg, Breakfast Enchiladas and Blueberry Crepes served with maple syrup and caramelised hazelnuts. Our reviewers opted for the Huevos Rancheros with egg served on tortilla bread, chorizo and beef chilli, avocado and tomato salsa. Really tasty and fresh with just the right amount of spice in the chorizo perfectly offset by the crème fraiche. The Fresh Tomato and Pesto Bruchette served with eggs, bacon and feta was a delicious, lighter and healthier option.

BAD ART

The Spanish village of Borja, population of only 4,931 has experienced an unexpected tourist boom due to the Ecce Homo, a fresco in the town’s Sanctuary of Mercy church that was famously botched in a 2012 restoration. One of the most talked about failures in art history has revitalised Borja’s economy by turning it into a tourist destination. Ecce Homo (behold the man), is a 1930 fresco depicting Jesus wearing a crown of thorns which has stemmed into a global phenomenon four years ago when it was discovered that one of the church’s parishioners has attempted to repair the aging artwork by touching up the paint! The result of her work was that the painting now resembled not the original son of God but a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey! Ecce Homo was soon dubbed Ecce Mono (Behold the monkey) and became known colloquially as ‘Beast Jesus’.

98 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

The initial responses to Gimenez’s handiwork were confused at best. The descendants of the artist who painted the original work, Elias Garcia Martinez were unhappy that his painting had been destroyed. The Center for Borja Studies first reported the news as an act of vandalism, describing it as an ‘unspeakable deed’. An image of the work now appears on the city’s lottery tickets and Borja has recently opened a cultural centre dedicated to the painting and the artist struck a deal allotting her a share of the profits and visitors have flocked to the town from all over the world to see one of the most epic art fails of all time!

PERFECT

POOLS

T

oday swimming pools come in a vast variety of shapes, sizes and finishes to suit different budgets, tastes and requirements. Quay Property Group will work with you to create your perfect swimming pool.

TRADITIONAL POOLS

Traditional pools are cost and space effective and suit most budgets. Traditional does not mean you have to compromise on finishes or style, you can still create a stunning looking pool. To bespoke your pool why not tile in a colour other than the normal blue, tiling in white gives a very light blue look to the water like an exotic location in the Caribbean.

OVERFLOW POOLS

Overflow pools are when the surface of the water is level with the terrace or finish floor area where the pool is constructed. The water appears motionless as it flows over all the edges simultaneously creating a reflective glass appearance on the surface with a modern contemporary look. Why not have a beach entrance rather than steps, talk to Quay Property Group.

INFINITY EDGE POOLS

Infinity edge pools or negative edge pools have to be built on sloped ground, this is because the water level along one or two sides of the pool will flow over these edges into a secondary pool. Most commonly installed overlooking another body of water such as the sea or views an infinity edge pool can create a spectacular finish.

102 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 20

t's official, the Marbella party season has begun! I attended the Puente Romano La Suite opening, where I found myself having to draw on the party confidence tools that I often share with my clients. I had arranged to meet a friend at 9pm, the start of the party, to be sure to get some good seats from which to relax and enjoy the glamorous event. At 9pm my friend sent me a message to say she would be 20 minutes late. I sat in my car, contemplating the idea of walking in alone. I felt nervous, but I realised it was for no good reason; it was an outdated habit from my shy days and I reminded myself that I encourage people to choose courage over fear in order to discover their inner coping skills, by immersing themselves in situations outside their comfort zones, and that walking my talk is important to me. At 9.10pm I was walking - with surprising confidence - at my decision to be strong! I headed across the stone bridge, through a romantic atmospheric archway of twinkling fairy lights towards the party. It was the lights that drew me into moment, and to feel myself so lucky to be in such a beautiful place. I breathed in the atmosphere and I felt joy for being there. In that moment, my anxiety had dissolved. I walked onto Plaza Village where the party is staged within a small amphitheatre style courtyard, with sofas and armchairs around the centre, and cocktails bars and restaurants embracing the elegant social affair. I gratefully accepted a glass of champagne and made my way around the grand space. I reasoned that with so many people, no one was noticing that I was alone, or that I was waiting: a perfectly acceptable social activity. I reminded myself that as I am accepting of my aloneness, the judgment of others has no bearing, and with this mature recognition, I put my focus outwards into the space around me. It was clear to see that people were all busy enjoying the event and that perhaps the only ones observing, were the ones who stood alone, and in our aloneness, we were united; there was nothing to fear. My friend arrived and our conversation took over, lifting me into a more socially open space. Sushi and champagne continued to flow from a passing stream of waiters, as we chatted and watched the party unfold. It was simply though a smile, that a conversation was opened with a group of women beside us: ‘Where are you from?’ I asked. In an international community this is always a safe conversation starter and opens up to many questions about the others person’s home, culture, and why they are in Marbella. Imagine that everyone has a sign above their head saying ‘Make me feel important’; a quote that came to mind in the moment to help me stop thinking about any discomfort in me and to focus on others. In the silences, standing and watching, body posture becomes an ally. Standing tall, arms open, shoulders back and making confident eye contact with others is a perfect form for ‘faking it until you make it’. Others will feel drawn to your display of confidence, even if it is an

psychology

act. I caught eyes, and I offered a friendly smile. With some this created an opportunity for the conversation to ignite, for others, it heralded a game of flirtation; I believe it is always a good thing for a woman to empower herself with alluring eyes that control the game and build inner confidence. The party was in full swing; cocktails and canapes in abundance and fire dancers putting on an impressive light display. Then my friend decided that we would make our descent into the bustling central plaza, to mingle. I followed, leaving the safe comfort of the sofas, down into the crowds. My friend was radiant, but I felt tense as people crashed into each other, mindfully dodging the cigarettes to avoid minor burns and turning away from the smoke being blown in my face from all directions. I moved swiftly through this discomfort towards the terrace, taking a relieving breathe to have arrived. My friend was still immersed in the crowds and so I stood alone, watching, waiting, feeling uncomfortable in my aloneness. ‘Waiting, is acceptable’. I reminded myself. ‘Just smile at people’, I continued. ‘Remember, they don’t care that I am standing alone; the only one judging me, is me, and I am actually okay with it’. I gave myself permission to once again embrace the moment,

to accept it, and to enjoy it, and in making my choice, anxiety vanished leaving a new sense of empowerment, because I was at a party with hundreds of people, standing alone in my power, even it waved in moments. I accepted my wavering, because I am still practicing this social art. I walked around the top terraces, watching the party, enjoying the champagne, smiling, and reminding myself to just be. I made light conversation with a couple of people and with my friend enjoying the central crowd. Eventually I decided that it was a lovely event, but that I was not enjoying it being alone anymore, and so I left, because I am free to do so at any time; I am free of expectation of how I should be, of how things should be, I am free, because I choose how I respond to events in my life. Now I know that the next time I find myself alone at a party, I will know there is no need to feel anxious, that it is perfectly acceptable to be alone, to stay and enjoy the event, to embrace the ambience, enjoy the champagne, the show and the spectacle, and the possibility of meeting new people. It doesn’t matter what happens, what matters is the freedom to make choices that support our happiness. Enjoy the party season.

You could be looking at a financial gain that not only boosts your back account but your professional status too. Be prepared to deal with lots of messages and also to travel at the drop of a hat. While you are busy focused on all that’s going on around you - and it could be a lot this May, romance could just sneak in and surprise you. Perhaps because you weren’t actually looking for it? That’s the lesson here - sometimes we can just try too hard. Relax and live in the moment enjoying what’s on offer now this May and you just could attract unlooked for benefits in the process. Money is also in your sign this month so be aware of your finances – good or bad.

If you’ve got big plans simmering I urge you to wait until the third week of the month to put them into action as by that time you’ll have green lights all the way. There’s a fresh start in the offing now in a key area but it is up to you to take advantage of it. Changes in one area are going to have a knock-on effect in others and this applies to your money and to your love life in particular. See an increase in one and the other blossoms along with it. Long overdue changes in a key area are on their way now and you have control of the timing of them. Concentrate on the area that’s showing most promise and focus on that, the rest will then fall into place.

The start of your birthday season sees you very much focused on you and others - perhaps to the point where you are willing to put their needs above yours. So, just whose birthday is it? Your feeling is that celebrations are so much better with two. Some of you could see that blast from the past return - or filled with the desire for peace, love and celebration you could even reach out to them. Don’t be surprised if there’s still some chemistry there but birthdays are about new beginnings. The coming year offers those so don’t let history repeat itself. You are of course a lot older and wiser this time round aren´t you Gemini?!

Business and work projects take a dynamic leap forward now and that feeling of just spinning your wheels evaporates. Time to make that move or apply for that position, launch that business or embark on that course of study. Put those ideas that you’ve been thinking through these past months into action in some way. Suddenly you receive new insight into a situation and see clearly what has been going on behind the scenes. This may come as a surprise but it’s also freeing. You now know not to waste any more time on a lost cause and also where to direct your energy for positive results. They say knowledge is power and this proves it.

If you’ve been experiencing delays around finances, the good news is money matters move forward in May putting you back in the black. Career matters are also highlighted and you are in a prime position to carve yourself out a niche and a stunning reputation besides. This could be time for some serious professional validation provided you have shown yourself as someone who needs to be taken seriously now. If you continue to think of yourself as a lightweight others will reflect this. It’s all about your image plus the vibe you’re giving out so work on this. The same goes for love. Having high standards does no harm and don’t listen to anyone who says you’re picky. You’re in a position to attract a lover who is equally picky because they’ve been looking for someone like you.

Big plans mean big decisions to be taken and that could be what lies ahead this May. Restrictions that you have been facing melt away now especially around travel or expansion. An opportunity could present itself that requires you to think things through in the long term and visualise where you want to be in the future. This represents a critical step and the results of what you decide - or don’t as the case may be, will linger for a long time to come. Luckily you don’t have a reputation for rushing into things without first examining all the facts. You could end this month with not just a sense of satisfaction but knowing you’ve earned the right to let your hair down, now that the serious business is out of the way.

They say the truth will set you free so what have you discovered now, Libra? You have the choice this month to stay in the dark or to emerge to live life on a grander scale than you have been up until now. You get noticed - both personally and professionally and what you have to offer can take you a long way now. If travelling romance could be the big plus factor or it could find you wherever you are and in a bigger and more enticing form than you’ve previously experienced. It all rests on your ability to take a chance - mainly on yourself. Life aligns with your expectations this month so big them up as much as you like. While you´re normally equally balanced, you can be a bit more excitable Libra because things are going your way.

New beginnings in love or the re-birth of passion in an old or existing union could be the change you were hoping for this May. Your mind is on partnerships in one form or another and ‘It takes two!’ is your mantra. That old flame may deserve a serious second look if they reappear. Your money also needs a second look - perhaps to see exactly where it goes. We’re all familiar with concepts such as a food journal but had you considered a money journal? When you are aware of where and on what it goes suddenly you can give it new focus - and direct it towards those priorities. What we focus on we energise - and usually increase as we do so. Cash-up your priorities in your love life - and your bank balance and you could find yourself in credit with both.

Work and career recognition could be on its way now with new avenues to explore in which you receive the talent recognition you deserve. Don’t stay operating behind-the-scenes but put yourself in a position where you interact with the world at large. By the third week of May your thoughts turn to matters of the heart and you could be looking at something that may start a little slower than your usual style but burn for so much longer when it finally heats up. This could be with someone who is very much on the same wavelength as you. The best things are often worth the wait - and the effort that goes into them. So enjoy this month Sagittarius, as it looks set to continue going your way this summer.

How you’ve learned from the past and how you are putting this knowledge into good use features this month. If your actions are now based on what you’ve gleaned from past experiences, then you should be pleased with the outcomes you are generating. However, if you are stuck in a mind rut then expect to stay there until you are prepared to try something new. This extends to your love life as you could be looking at more than one possible flirtation now but if it’s a different outcome you desire maybe you need to consider going against your usual ‘type’ if you have one - or just opt for the choice that seems the most fun and let all other considerations go. Someone you meet has hidden depths and it’s up to you to discover them.

A new lifestyle or a new home or way of living opens the doors to more creativity, fun and romance now. Jump in if offered the chance to move or upgrade your home or surroundings. The universe is crying out for you to take up a new living vibe, which can be anything from just deciding to carve out more time for what you love to do or moving house. Anything like this announces to the cosmos that you are open and ready for a chance and once you have done it those changes sweep in like a surge tide. De-clutter, rearrange, change your space, change your appearance and watch what you start to attract as a result. Others will be quick to let you know they love this new you - and that includes those you already know - and those you’d like to attract.

The first three weeks of May could see you dealing with things from the past - anything from old school friends, co-workers, places you have lived or even former lovers. There’s a saying that the further you go back, the further forward you can see. You may find this to be true as you look back on past relationships and dealings and suddenly see all too clearly where it led you - and where you could be going next. Armed with this knowledge think twice about whether anything from the past serves to create the future you want. Yes, we need to learn from the past but really - do we need to repeat it? Only reclaim that past relationship if you and they have changed and recognise the patterns that forced you apart. It’s time to create a new future this month - and not look back.
