Brief - Create a vinyl cover from the email below. “We’re gonna be releasing a limited edition 12” of a mix Evian Christ made last year called duga3.. We were discussing artwork concepts and Josh wondered if there was any way you could graphically represent the 10z tapping sound that makes up the duga-3 transmission? Important to mention right now is that we don’t have a lot of time to do this, as this release is intended for the record store day and they have super tight deadlines, so we need this by the end of today? Concept - Focusing on the elements of mind control and trance the image manipulation shows the breaking up of patterns in a ripple effect mimicking the Duga-3 drone noise. Dimensions - 12” x 12”

Research -
The research was split in to two sections. The first section was focused on researching in to the Duga-3 and the soundwaves. The second part of the research was focused on aesthetic research. The main concept that came from the research was the theme of repetition and mind control.

Research -
The three designs above show a literal translation of the concept of mind control. The brain illustration paired with the trance like colour were design decisions made to connote the duga-3 soundwaves. The repetition of the patterns mimics the drone sound with in the Evian Christ’s song.

Research -
The final outcome developed greatly from the developmental stage. The end vinyl sleeve has a more understated and sleek design. This sleeve represents the smooth and melodic sound of Evian Christ. The repeated pattern begins to break up representing the spreading of the Duga-3 drone sound.

Research -
The research stage involved looking at a range of different gig posters and discovering general conventions and aesthetics. The research showed that the strongest gig posters use a mix of text and image and often use collage to connote the vibe of the music genre they are promoting. Lo-fi imagery is another design feature prominent in the majority of the posters found through this research.

Final Outcome -
The final poster design uses text and image to promote the gig. The primary tool of the promotion it the text, this gives all the relevant information in a structured way by employing hierarchy of text and placing the title of the band as the most prominent piece of information on the poster. The design uses an innovative and unique take on collage, by layering smooth and shiny acetate on top of the blue image it strengthens the connotations of fluidity with in the music genre.
